Internal mic static

I have an M305-S4848 (Vista 64-bit) and all of a sudden, I am getting an extreme amount of static recorded when I use my internal mic.  It sounds like a drone, white noise, and occasionally blips of sounds.  Just last week it was fine, but now it's acting up.  Does anyone know what might be causing this?  Thank you so much!

In case it's not a hardware malfunction, try reinstalling the audio driver.

I have recently upgraded my iMac Intel G5 iSight (iMac5,1) to OS 10.6.8 and now the internal mic does not work with skype or facebook. I can here static when playing back clips. Do I need to update firmware or reload old system parts. I have zapped PRAM. The blue indicator in system audio panel will appear for a second as I slide the bar for internal mic but then it disappears. Is there a fix?

The sound seems very faint but can here static on playback.

  • Iphone real instruments internal mic

I still use GB in my powerbook. I have not uses the sampled instruments yet. But in iphone am enjoying the ability to quickly use the internal mic for real instrument ideas. saves time the way cassette players used to for easy access when inspiration hits...and the abi;lity to add tracks to the idea is great. are there tips to maximize this feature?

Thanks.  I am not sure if I want to pay that much for a 4s.  I was scouring through this forum last night trying to see if there is quick remedy since its waste to see a perfectly good phone go away.  I hear feedback of my voice and the other caller hears static noise, as soon as I change to speaker phone or use the headset everything is fine.

  • Internal mic not working after updating to 10.10.1

After updating to 10.10.1 (from 10.10) on my MacBook pro 2010 (15” screen) the internal mic is not working when using FaceTime (or Skype) and so the person on the other end of the video/audio call is unable to hear me. On my end there is a static/crackly sound during FaceTime (or Skype) connecting  since the update which I believe is related to the mic problem (no sound input on Mac during FaceTime/Skype).
    HELP!!!

I had exactly this same issue and and this workaround from Paul on another thread (Internal Mic not working for phone calls in Yosemite ) solved it :
Make sure FaceTime App is not running
    Open Terminal
    type sudo killall coreaudiod
    Press Return
    Enter your computer's admin PW

  • Internal Mic not showing up at all

cannot find the internal mic on my A215-s5837 any where in the sounds option or in the device manager.  I installed an webcam and mic.  The webcam works great but the mic is not working at all nor can the computer see it.  I am running Windows 7.

I hope you backed up before this happened.
Okay solution to get info back.
Go to ebay and get one of the laptop hd to desktop hd connectors about $6-12 or a USB/FIREWIRE ($25 max) external enclosure for 2.5" drives as then you can install a new drive and still try to access it via USB/FIREWIRE
This will work if you have a desktop Win or Apple and then you can use a descent software to access it.
If not then send it to the manufacturer and then can make a backup for you or take the disc platter looking like a dvd / cd and place it in a new working device so you can get access as likely the motor died on the hd or the circuit board/firmware is bust but the disc platter might be in tackt.
Good Q? does the drive spin up ?
I have seen that a good format "erase can get life out of it " but it does not help for info/files.
PS: if you have tiger do not use panther disk utility as there is different thingy's they use and this does screw up a drive but nothing a erase/format can not fix.

  • Inspiron 1525 not able to select internal mic for webcam, nor is it showing up on Control Panel, Sound, Audio Devices

Initial problem was Dell Webcam video recording records no sound.
In Control Panel, Device Manager, Sound Video and Game Controllers there are two High Definition Audio Devices listed: Location 1 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus) - I deduce this is the internal mic; and Location 2 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus) - I deduce this is external microphone jack. Both have the same driver version.
The Control Panel, Sound, Recordings Tab showed 2 devices that looked identical except the bars that show green with volume were only on the first one, which is also the default one, and would detect sound if you got real close to the webcam mic when talking. Both devices displayed as 'working'.
Accessories, Sound Recorder recordings are silent no matter how close you get to internal webcam mic.
Dell WebCam Audio Source tab has two selections, both reading Microphone (3 - High Definition Audio Device). Both selections record sound with the EXTERNAL MIC jack. There is no way to select the internal webcam mic, it is not an option.
Per instructions found on the web, I uninstalled the first device only in Device Manager and rebooted. The same driver version as before was installed. But now the settings have changed. Device Mgr still shows Loc 1 and Loc 2. However, under the Sound, Recordings tab there are still 2 devices, but the first one says 'currently unavailable' , is still the default, and the sound bars that go green for audio testing are on the SECOND device now instead of the first one. If you check the Properties for each device, they BOTH are showing the same location Location 2 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus), i.e., the external mic jack.  Loc 1 device (built in mic) is not showing up!!
Accessories Sound Recorder works with the EXTERNAL mic. (How does it know which one to use, it's not giving me a choice?)
So the Location 1 device (internal mic) is not showing up anywhere besides the device manager. I want to use the internal mic for skype and webcam. Somehow I need to get the Loc 1 device to show up on the Sound - Recording tab and in the Webcam Audio Source list? What do I do?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    This is Vista.
Go to the Inspiron 1525 support page. Find the small blue "Change OS" and click on the arrow. Select Vista. Then download and install these 3 items with a restart between each one.
    1. Dell System Software in the System Utilities category.
    2. Intel Mobile Chipset in the Chipset category.
    3. Sigmatel audio driver in the Audio category.
See if it works any better after you get the Sigmatel driver installed.

  • Internal Mic and Bluetooth not working together at the same time

Okay.. so I've been noticing this happen alot lately. Whenever I have my usb wacom tablet plugged in (which is almost always), there would be no internal mic input and bluetooth would become "not unavailable". Also, even when I try an external mic, there was no input. Could this be a coincidence or some related usb-bluetooth problem? Could it be my audio input or tablet driver problem?
I've used my mic to skype before I had installed the tablet. Also before I used garage band to record my sister's guitar with an external mic, there was no problem at all, and of course I didn't have my tablet plugged in at the time. Recorded a whole hours worth of music, and didn't have any problems.
Today.. I checked to see if my internal mic was working before I launched skype, and it was working perfectly, and I also noticed my bluetooth was available (didn't test it though). Then I went on skype talked to friend for about 20min, and suddenly the audio stop working. I had my tablet plugged in from earlier today. I restarted my macbook (with no tablet plugged in) and still mic input isn't working. I tried and external mic, but still nothing. I tried uninstalling skype, still nothing.
This is not the first time this happened, I noticed it would somehow fix itself after a few days every time, and mic and bluetooth would start working again out of nowhere. Which makes it even more weird.
    Need help pleaseee!
PS. I tried getting someone to fix it before(a few months ago- I don't really use my mic or bluetooth much), but when I brought it in and started up my mac, at that time it was working again. But now it isn't working =(

UPDATE: I just noticed my bluetooth was no longer "unavailable", so I quickly went into system preferences, and noticed that my internal mic input had some input! Very weak though, only 1-2 bars. So what does this mean?

  • How do I make the internal mic on my macbook air sustain better when recording on garage band? I have been recording an acoustic guitar and listening back, the mic seems to pick it up well naturally for 1 or 2 seconds then dramatically drop out.

I realised that you just need to go to System Preferences > Sound > Input > and uncheck 'Use ambient noise reduction'. mmm answered my own question.

  • L355-S7905 Satellite internal mic is not visible

For some reason I have lost my internal mic.  The device manager does not list it.  Any suggestions?

    Satellite L355-S7905 Specifications
    Satellite L355-S7905 Downloads
First, the internal mic will never appear in Device Manager, it's just a part of the Realtek internal sound card configuration. Right click on the speaker icon in your system tray at the bottom right of your screen, left click on 'Recording devices', if you can see the 'Microphone, Realtek High Def Audio' device, right click on that, if it is disabled left click on 'Enable', if you see 'Set as Default Device' left click on that. Now try your mic again.
If you do do not see the mic, or anything in 'Recording devices', right click on a blank part of its box, left click on 'Show Disabled Devices' and on 'Show Disconnected Devices', so that the check mark is on both of these. Try the above paragraph again.
If none of the above works, try a system reset. Power off the laptop, unplug the AC from the unit, remove the battery, press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds, replace the battery and AC, power on, as soon as you see the Toshiba logo, press the 'F2' key to enter the BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, and then boot into Windows, and see if the mic is working again.
If this doesn't work, we need the version of Windows you're using, like Windows 7 64bit edtion.
Please let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • How to mute internal mic??

I just migrated to an Intel Mac Book Pro, I now see when I'm running my audio program that the internal mic input is always on ( I'm using the built in audio till my new sound card comes.) I have the internal mic shut off on the mac why is my audio program still picking up the open mic ?

    Hello thetoolwiz2,
I'd recommend resetting your computer's PRAM, as there may be an issue with its settings that is preventing you from being able to properly switch inputs.
