Internal Microphone/Mac OS X 10.6.7

After installing the latest Update Mac OSX  10.6.7, the internal microphone does not work anymore. Has someone the same problem, and/or know how to fix this problem?

Don't delete your OS X partition. You can reformat it independently of the Windows partition. Reformatting will erase the OS X partition if you do this:
Erase a disk Volume
1.  Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your OS X volume (usually the one labeled "Macintosh HD") from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.

Why won't my mac internal microphone work?

I just found and removed a small piece of sticky tape which was covering the mic. The mic is on the top surface of a mac - you can only just see a lighter coloured small round circle in line with the camera on the top narrow surface. My problem was sorted despite all other help and just before I gave up.  Check no-one has posted a sticky message, camera cover or even an ornament over your mic. How many folk know where the mic is?

  • Internal Microphone not working with Quicktime and some other apps, yet it does for Skype.

Internal Microphone not working with Quicktime and some other apps, yet it does for Skype.
Microphone works fine with Quictime on another mac, so I do know how to use it. The one where it is not working (A) had an external microphone and camera attached earlier, and indeed it does work with that external microphone, but not with the internal microphone selected; and (B) had RealPlayer installed previously.
    Any suggestions, please?

    Hi,
    Download Audio driver from here.
Intructions how to install it in Vista/Win7.
    Extract this driver with Winrar.
Open Device manager and expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
Right click on Either the High Definition Audio Device if you have the generic Microsoft drivers, or the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 if you have older Conexant drivers and choose "Update Driver Software..."
Click Browse my computer for driver software, then click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Click "Have Disk..." then Browse to the folder where the drivers were extracted  .......\V64 for 64-bit Vista/Win7. Click OK.
Select one of the "Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221" models in the list, there will be multiple identical entries.
    Click Next, and you're done.
I'm not sure which one from the list will work for You.
This drivers weren't test. So if You will try them and it will work for You let us now about.

    Hello.
Can't seem to get the internal microphone to work.  Any ideas?

    Greetings,
If you go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Sound > Input, does it say "Internal Microphone?
If so click on it and make noise and see if the sound input bar fluctuates.  Is there any response?
If not try the following resets:

  • Jabber Reads Internal Microphone but doesn't work in calls

Jabber is reading the Internal Microphone from the laptop with moving bars and everything showing that the is sound coming through.
However when the user makes a call to anyone she can hear them fine but they cant hear her speaking through the laptop internal mic.
If she uses an external mic though it works totally fine and her voice goes through in calls it just doesn't work with the internal mic even though Jabber is picking it up.

    hi rarredondo1,
This can happen if another program is using the MIC at the same time.  I would make sure all programs are closed out when using the CJV software.
Not sure if this is on a MAC, but I would also make sure the settings are using the internal MIC when in a call.
If this is on a Windows Computer, make sure the MIC is set to internal computer MIC instead of some other setting.  Conflicting settings could create this issue.
    Regards,
    Jason

I am wanting in input audio to a MacBook Pro  running 10.9.4.  Since there is only the internal microphone as an input choice, how do I accomplish this?

Not something I've ever done, but I found a 9-year-old article from MacWorld -> http://www.macworld.com/article/1041790/tapetocd.html - that explains it a bit. Apparently the only software that you need is GarageBand and a hardware interface. Just Google "copy audio cassette to mac" and you'll get tons of hits.

  • The internal microphone can't be found?

Yesterday evening my iBook G3 with OSX 10.3.4 crashed (don't ask me how).. anyway, now the internal microphone can't be found. In the sound settings it just says "no sound input device found". Does anyone know what to do about it?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Chances are that the crash did some damage to your hard drive (which may or may not be the cause of your microphone problem).
Try booting into Safe Mode. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
You will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally, and go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, and repair permissions on it.
See if a little hard drive maintenance helps things out.
Every time you have to do a forced shutdown (as when a crash occurs) instead of a normal one, there is a chance of hard drive damage and you should repair the hard drive, either by booting into Safe Mode or starting up from the Mac OS X Install Disk by inserting the disk and restarting your computer, holding down the C key at the end of the startup chime. Then choose Installer>Open Disk Utility and select the disk in the left column. Choose the First Aid tab. Click Repair Disk to test and repair the hard drive. Once you have repaired the hard drive with either Safe Mode or the Install CD's Disk Utility, then start up normally and repair permissions from Disk Utility in the Utilities folder on your hard drive.
If repairing the hard drive and repairing permissions does not correct the problem, you may want to consider upgrading your OS to 10.3.9. There was a certain version of OS 10.3 that did exhibit problems with the microphone not being recognized, but I'm uncertain as to which version that was, and if yours was recognized in 10.3.4 and then not, that probably isn't your problem. But an upgrade to 10.3.9 wouldn't hurt, following F.J.'s suggestions in the User Tip, Upgrade! But do it right!

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your microphone is not working.  Try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC).  Once this is done, test using the microphone.

The only reason i got this is cause apple claims to support windows, i like Mac OS, but i work on windows i need it... if theres no windows capability in mac i wouldnt ever buy one, so this issue is really bothering me A LOT. my impresions about apple are changing after seing this topic filled with questions and not a single moderator answer, go and check a logitech forum and see how they take care about user problems.

  • Trying to add spoken audio clip to iMovie with my internal microphone

Hi, I am creating an iMovie which is comprised of images. I am trying to record poems on my MacBook Pro with the internal microphone, so that I can add an audio clip to the movie. I have OS X, so can't use "Simple Sound".
Can someone suggest how I can add a spoken audio clip to an iMovie? Do I need to buy new software to utilize the internal microphone?
    Thanks,
    Diana

    Lots of wonderful options.
Audacity,(http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac) is a free audio recorder, that lets you edit out background room noises. Just make the audio file and import into iMovie.
Imovie 9/11 has a voiceover function, that lets you record your voice. You can import a voice file in iMovie 9 or 11, put beat markers in and then import images that will sync with your markers.
Imovie 06 (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/6.0/en/imv1077.html) easily lets you sync images with a voiceover.
Keynote lets you make a movie by doing a voiceover with your images.
I participated in several projects doing this kind of digital storytelling, and found iMovie 06 the easiest to use. I suggest, if you have the time, going to YouTube and researching digital storytelling and various forms of iMovie, or going to apple's tutorials. All Macs come with an internal mike that works with included software. Hugh

  • Internal Microphone suddenly stopped working, help please.

That is my problem. I have updated my driver, restored my computer to a time where my mic worked. It was working earlier today, then when I restarted my laptop, I had the legendary Toshiba startup issue. Once I got that figured out and got back onto my computer, I got bluescreened. Eventually I fixed my computer, with this last remaining issue. I've never had issues with my internal microphone.
It's not muted, it's enabled. How can I plug it in when it's an internal microphone? I'm very frustrated. Someone help me. I've been searching for a way to fix it for two hours and I haven't come up with a single solution that's solved the problem.

  • Satellite U400 - Internal microphone is too quiet

I am running on Windows7 x64. I have downloaded latest sound drivers (4.98.6.61) and now is internal microphone very quiet although its volume is on max.
I had Vista x64 before and everything was ok. I have tried Vista drivers on Windows 7, but nothing changed - still quiet mic.
    Thanks for an advice.

    Hi
I had the same issue with my Satellite U400 but on Vista. After updating the sound driver and BIOS the issue did still exist.
After searching a little bit here in the forum I activated the microphone boost and this was the solution! :)
1.Open the "Control Panel" (Standard view)
    2.Click on "Hardware and Sound"
    3.Click on "Sound"
    4.Click on the "Recording" tab.
5.Mark the Microphone and then press on the "Properties" button.
6.Click on the Custom tab and set the check by Microphone Boost
    Check this!!
