Internal Microphone not working ... never

Hi
I'm using a Macbook Pro Late 13'' 2011 and trying to use the internal microphone which does not work in any case unfortunately.
It's not a problem with Skype or other software. It seems that it never works.
I've tried to adjust settings in the audio pane from the system preferences but it really seems to be everything ok.
I've run a hardware test with no warnings. Everythng is fine.
is there a way to maybe reinstall or reconfigure the drivers ?
I haven't tried with an external microphone. All the other audio features are working fine.
Thanks for the support

Hi gmss,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may want to try booting into safe mode to see if the issue persists:

Internal Microphone not working with Quicktime and some other apps, yet it does for Skype.
Microphone works fine with Quictime on another mac, so I do know how to use it. The one where it is not working (A) had an external microphone and camera attached earlier, and indeed it does work with that external microphone, but not with the internal microphone selected; and (B) had RealPlayer installed previously.
    Any suggestions, please?

  • Internal Microphone not working for L505D-S5983 (PLEASE HELP!)

    Hi,
I can't seem to get my internal microphone to work. I have enabled it under Sound->Manage Audio Devices
->Recording tab. However the green vertical bar does not detect any voice. After setting the Microphone boost to +40dB, it detected some noise (since it has some green light) but I realized it wasn't detecting my voice. Since this did not work, I re-set the Microphone boost to only +10dB.  I only have one internal microphone and no external microphone.
I have seen many postings on internal microphones not working on Toshiba laptops but couldn't find a solution to mine. Can someone please help? I think it's about time that Toshiba fix this issue after the countless complaints.
    FM.

No mentions of reinstalling the sound driver. That sometimes turns on the microphone.

Test the microphone in the Sound preference pane. Does it work there?

  • NB 200 internal microphone not working

I have been using my NB 200 to communicate via skype for some time and now the internal microphone has stopped working. I have managed to get it working for a brief period last night but then it stopped again when my system rebooted. It therefore appearst o be a software issue. I have tried installing up to date driver software (Realtech) and system restore but the computer says nothign has changed so it will not restore. Please advise. I am using XP as my oeprating system

I've got this problem - internal microphone was working fine up to few weeks ago when I last used it for Skype. All that's happened since then is a couple of Windows updates but now I can't get it to work.
I've tried all the things suggested in this thread:
    - Updated Chicony software for webcam
    - Updated Realtek software
An external microphone works OK for Skype and the voice recorder utility but doesn't work with audio/video recording using the webcam software.
A Bluetooth headset (which I know is working properly) will connect with the netbook to listen to music and works fine to listen to Skype but won't work to speak and won't work at all record or playback with the webcam software.
I've fiddled with all the control panel settings including voice settings and run all the tests.
So does this sound like a hardware problem or a software problem? If the microphone itself was damaged, why would that affect the use of an external microphone?
Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm reluctant to follow up the last suggestion in this thread about reinstalling the OS as I'm not sure why that might sort out the problem?
    Thanks

  • Brand New TouchSmart 300 internal microphone not working.

I have been trying to get my internal microphone to work with Skype.
I have done all the tests suggested on this forum and everything says that my microphone is working!
When I record anything  I get a muffled noise not anything like speech.
If I record on Windows 7 Sound Recorder the green bar stays at 25% but no sound.
Is there a simple fix as really do not want to take it back to the shop to have it sent away under warranty.

    Re-install Skype, and the drivers.
Reinstall drivers from Recovery Manager or download them from your update site at http://www.support.hp.com .
You can find your PN by pressing CTRL  +   ALT + S.
Update skype, or reinstall it, as I'm sure the latest version is compatible with Windows 7.
After you perform these tests, please post with the results.

    2 HP Printers (J6480 and J5750)
    1 Laptop (HP DV6253CL)
Have at least some experience in each of those devices, and i'll do my best to help you.

  • NB205-N210 Internal Microphone NOT Working

My internal microphone quit working on my NB-205-N210 after using an external headset (w/microphone) in the left side analog audio jacks, now I can't get the internal microphone to work again...  All I get is "white noise" with the volume control set at maximum...  Note: an external analog microphone + USB microphone still work...
    What I've tried so-far:
I have tried both Realtek and Windows XP sound and audio device tools to make sure the microphone was not muted, the volume was turned up and selected + boost on (all where set correctly)...
Un-installing then re-installing the current Realtek HD sound drivers (several times), to no avail...
Dis-assembled the netbook to check the internal microphone, plus substituted an electret microphone element to check - no luck...
Checked microphone plug, plus re-soldered the microphone connector on motherboard - still no luck...
I could get by using an external microphone, but that's not convenient when traveling, or the point...
    Hope someone can help...

  • X220 internal microphone not working

Ever since my laptop got a motherboard replacement a few weeks ago, the internal microphone has stopped working. I have installed the most recent conexant audio drivers (8.32.23.5), uninstalled and re-installed them, and uninstalled and tried using microsoft audio drivers. None of these strategies have worked. Furthermore, in the control panel -> sound -> recording tab, it shows a "docking microphone (conexant 20672 smartaudio HD)" rather than an "internal microphone". In the properties page, it also lists the "jack information" of this device to be a "LR rear panel 3.5mm jack". I think the "docking mic" device is actually supposed to be the jack for the docking station that goes with the x220 laptop, however I have never plugged the laptop into a docking station before. There is no listing for an "internal microphone" in the recording tab of the sound page.
Based on this information, would it be logical to assume there is either some hardware issue with the internal microphone itself, or that the microphone isn't plugged into the motherboard properly? If it's not plugged in correctly, how much would I have to disassemble the laptop in order to plug it back in?

    Hey there hitokirix,
That sounds like it could definitely be a hardware issue, since it's not showing in the Sound Menu.
Here's the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the X220.
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/0a60739.pdf
It'll show you how to disassemble your machine.
Also, have you tried calling Lenovo back? They might be able to assist you, depending on how long 'a few weeks' is.

  • DV9930US Internal Microphone not working (Vista & Windows7)

    Hi,
I've had my DV9930US for awhile, but up until recently, I haven't used either the webcam or the internal microphone.
I'm preparing for a trip, so I thought I'd see if I could get something like Skype setup, but I'm finding that the internal microphone doesn't seem to work (doesn't hear anything).   Audio output seems to work fine, and, also, if I plug an external microphone into the jack in the front, under the keyboard, that seems to work...  it's just the internal microphones (there are two, I think, at the top of the display, surrounding the webcam) that are not working ...
Everything seems to be ok in Device Manager.  Under "Sound", I have "Realtek High Definition Audio".  The driver is dated 1/15/08, V6.0.1.5548.
I've tried testing with Sound Recorder, and I've also tested using the "Configure Microphone", but it never shows any bars, and the file that Sound Recorder recorded is basically silent.
I still have the original Vista Home Premium on this machine and also Windows 7 Ultimate (I dual  boot), and even the original Vista seems to have the same problem.
I've seen some posts here with problems with G60s, but no resolutions, so I was wondering if anyone might know what
    the problem might be?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
For the record, I finally found the problem.
In the DV9930US, there's a small (1"x1") PCB called the "power button board".  This has the power button, and 3 pinned connectors, plus a flat cable connector.
The microphones in the display bezel connect to one of the 3 pinned connectors, and the flat cable goes, I think to the actual audio board.
I had replaced the microphones, which didn't fix the problem, so I bought a replacement power button board, which luckily, came with a new flat cable.
It turned out that the original flat cable going from the power button board to the audio board was bad.
I replaced the flat cable, and then the internal mics worked.

Try the steps listed in this document from HP. It has the most common solutions and steps to isolate the issue.
It is possibly a hardware issue since an external microphone works without any issue, but let me know what happens with each step of the document as that will help determine if it is a hardware issue or not.
Also, let me know the results of the steps in the Using Windows Sound Recorder to test the microphone section. If this recorded file also exhibits the same behavior, then it is definitely not any third party software causing the issue.

  • Internal Microphone not working on Arch (Dell Studio 1558)

    Hello community,
I never managed to get the internal microphone of my Dell Studio 1558 to work with ArchLinux 64Bit. I know that the soundhip of Dell Notebooks is a bit tricky sometimes. I already tried several configurations in the alsamixer. Unfortunately there are not much possibilites. In this Screenshot you can see all mixers that are displayed in alsamixer. No matter what I do, the microphone will never work. Of course it would not work with pulseaudio, too.
I also tried several configurations in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
    options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-dell
    options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-dell
    options snd-hda-intel model=dell
To make sure the mic is not borken and works on Linux I booted a 32Bit Xubuntu 11.04 Live system. The Microphone worked there and Alsamixer gave me many more mixers there.
I don't know what info to provide... At least here is cat /proc/asound/cards. I doubt it's helpful though.
    cat /proc/asound/cards
    0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xf0b00000 irq 43
    Help is appreciated Thanks already.

A long time ago I had a problem with the microphone in my Dell Studio 1737. When I finally got it working, I wrote down how I did it. Now I wish I had been more of a chatterbox... Anyway, here's my note:
    /etc/asound.state
    control.11 {
    value.0 true
    value.1 true
Hope you can make heads or tails of it.

  • Internal microphone not working with Windows 7 RC on dv9000 (Dv9817cl)

Hi,  I recently installed Windows 7 RC (64bit) on my HP dv9000 (DV9817cl) and everything seems to work apart from the internal microphones.
In the Sounds section of the hardware and sound section of control panel there is only one recording device shown "Microphone, High definition audio device, not plugged in".  I take it this is the 3.5mm microphone port on the front of the notebook.  There is only one driver issue showing in device manager for "Other devices>coprocessor".
The current audio driver is High Definition Audio Device microsoft v6.1.7100.0.  I've tried looking for updated drivers ion the web with no luck so far.
Does anyone know where I could get an updated driver or have any suggestions to get this going?
    Thanks in advance

  • Macbook pro 15" (5,1) internal microphone not working on Lion 10.7.3

Ever since i updated to lion (currently 10.7.3) the internal microphone doesn't seem to be working at all!
but here's the thing... if i TAP the computer near where the microphone is located (to the left of the keyboard) it does capture some sort of noise/sound on it, which means "it's working" also if I do some test recordings through garage band i do get those tappings and a little bit of static/dead air on it, not silence.
I've been working with my iphone's headphones, but it would really be nice to have a permanent solution for this situation

See this response from Erc Cote:
