Internal microphone not working when on battery

The title says the main problem. When I'm plugged into the power, the microphone works perfectly. Then I unplug it, it works for several seconds (trying arecord and aplay several times), then after that it doesn't work anymore. The sound output still works.
Obviously I thought it was laptop-mode, but when I disabled laptop-mode and try the same procedure it still has the same problem. When I plug the power back in, it doesn't automatically go back, but I have to restart alsa daemon (and when I do, everything works once again).
Has anyone come across this or similar issue?
Btw my netbook is Acer Aspire One 722
Thanks for reading...

Sighhhh, wasted so much time yesterday and today going around Sony centre and then carphone warehouse. They told me to come back after Easter.
I came home, banged the phone against the wall and it worked.
Turned out that mic was working on loud speaker and when using headphones so I thought that the secondary mic is working and the main one (placed with the speakers) isn't. So I banged that part against the wall slightly (in plastic case to prevent scratches) then put the phone underwater, waited for it to dry and now it's working. Idk how well and if it's of perfect quality again but people can hear me well.

Internal Microphone not working with Quicktime and some other apps, yet it does for Skype.
Microphone works fine with Quictime on another mac, so I do know how to use it. The one where it is not working (A) had an external microphone and camera attached earlier, and indeed it does work with that external microphone, but not with the internal microphone selected; and (B) had RealPlayer installed previously.
    Any suggestions, please?

    Hi,
    Download Audio driver from here.
Intructions how to install it in Vista/Win7.
    Extract this driver with Winrar.
Open Device manager and expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
Right click on Either the High Definition Audio Device if you have the generic Microsoft drivers, or the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 if you have older Conexant drivers and choose "Update Driver Software..."
Click Browse my computer for driver software, then click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Click "Have Disk..." then Browse to the folder where the drivers were extracted  .......\V64 for 64-bit Vista/Win7. Click OK.
Select one of the "Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221" models in the list, there will be multiple identical entries.
    Click Next, and you're done.
I'm not sure which one from the list will work for You.
This drivers weren't test. So if You will try them and it will work for You let us now about.

  • Internal Microphone not working for L505D-S5983 (PLEASE HELP!)

    Hi,
I can't seem to get my internal microphone to work. I have enabled it under Sound->Manage Audio Devices
->Recording tab. However the green vertical bar does not detect any voice. After setting the Microphone boost to +40dB, it detected some noise (since it has some green light) but I realized it wasn't detecting my voice. Since this did not work, I re-set the Microphone boost to only +10dB.  I only have one internal microphone and no external microphone.
I have seen many postings on internal microphones not working on Toshiba laptops but couldn't find a solution to mine. Can someone please help? I think it's about time that Toshiba fix this issue after the countless complaints.
    FM.

No mentions of reinstalling the sound driver. That sometimes turns on the microphone.

  • NB 200 internal microphone not working

I have been using my NB 200 to communicate via skype for some time and now the internal microphone has stopped working. I have managed to get it working for a brief period last night but then it stopped again when my system rebooted. It therefore appearst o be a software issue. I have tried installing up to date driver software (Realtech) and system restore but the computer says nothign has changed so it will not restore. Please advise. I am using XP as my oeprating system

I've got this problem - internal microphone was working fine up to few weeks ago when I last used it for Skype. All that's happened since then is a couple of Windows updates but now I can't get it to work.
I've tried all the things suggested in this thread:
    - Updated Chicony software for webcam
    - Updated Realtek software
An external microphone works OK for Skype and the voice recorder utility but doesn't work with audio/video recording using the webcam software.
A Bluetooth headset (which I know is working properly) will connect with the netbook to listen to music and works fine to listen to Skype but won't work to speak and won't work at all record or playback with the webcam software.
I've fiddled with all the control panel settings including voice settings and run all the tests.
So does this sound like a hardware problem or a software problem? If the microphone itself was damaged, why would that affect the use of an external microphone?
Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm reluctant to follow up the last suggestion in this thread about reinstalling the OS as I'm not sure why that might sort out the problem?
    Thanks

  • Brand New TouchSmart 300 internal microphone not working.

I have been trying to get my internal microphone to work with Skype.
I have done all the tests suggested on this forum and everything says that my microphone is working!
When I record anything  I get a muffled noise not anything like speech.
If I record on Windows 7 Sound Recorder the green bar stays at 25% but no sound.
Is there a simple fix as really do not want to take it back to the shop to have it sent away under warranty.

    Re-install Skype, and the drivers.
Reinstall drivers from Recovery Manager or download them from your update site at http://www.support.hp.com .
You can find your PN by pressing CTRL  +   ALT + S.
Update skype, or reinstall it, as I'm sure the latest version is compatible with Windows 7.
After you perform these tests, please post with the results.
I have more HP devices than you'd expect.

  • NB205-N210 Internal Microphone NOT Working

My internal microphone quit working on my NB-205-N210 after using an external headset (w/microphone) in the left side analog audio jacks, now I can't get the internal microphone to work again...  All I get is "white noise" with the volume control set at maximum...  Note: an external analog microphone + USB microphone still work...
    What I've tried so-far:
I have tried both Realtek and Windows XP sound and audio device tools to make sure the microphone was not muted, the volume was turned up and selected + boost on (all where set correctly)...
Un-installing then re-installing the current Realtek HD sound drivers (several times), to no avail...
Dis-assembled the netbook to check the internal microphone, plus substituted an electret microphone element to check - no luck...
Checked microphone plug, plus re-soldered the microphone connector on motherboard - still no luck...
I could get by using an external microphone, but that's not convenient when traveling, or the point...
    Hope someone can help...

Try the steps listed in this document from HP. It has the most common solutions and steps to isolate the issue.
It is possibly a hardware issue since an external microphone works without any issue, but let me know what happens with each step of the document as that will help determine if it is a hardware issue or not.
Also, let me know the results of the steps in the Using Windows Sound Recorder to test the microphone section. If this recorded file also exhibits the same behavior, then it is definitely not any third party software causing the issue.

  • Microphone not working when using a phone call, Microphone not working when using a phone call

Microphone is not working when i use my iphone 4, first day when i installed a iOS 7 , was all good, second day this happened. Please help me. When i use a Viber microphone working. I think this is not a hardwear problem.

    Hi Mike
That was very helpful thank you.
I did as you suggested and found the "switch" was already turned on green. I swiched it off waited a while then turned it back on and microphone was back in use in viber. I have a sneaky feeling I may have to do this again in the future.  I am not aware that I did anything that led to the microphone going off, but having said that I have only had the phone for a few days so may have done something when checking it out.
The phone has been a lot of fun after replacing my ancient Nokia with it. That Nokia worked in Morse code!
    Best wishes

  • NB100 internal microphone not working

    Hi
I did a fresh XP SP3 install on my NB100. I did not do it from the Toshiba recovery disc as my NB100 would not write that Toshiba disc creator that came with it to my external DVDR/CDR even though it works fine with Veritas.
So I downloaded all the specific drivers and everything else on there is running fine. Except the internal microphone. I can't see anywhere to select it specifically. I can select the Realtek mic source, but I'm guessing that is for the mic input on the front panel. Where does the internal mic reside or where are drivers for it? I've searched this site and Googled all over the place. The mic was working fine before the re-install.
    Cheers
    Kev

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yeah I loaded the drivers for the internal webcam and it works fine. I tried the mic boost trick, but still no go. I can't imagine the mic has died at the same time I did an install, so there is something I am missing. I'll probably slap myself around the head when I find it :-)
    Cheers

  • Internal microphone not working pavilion sleekbook 15

So I have had this laptop now for less than a year and have had nothing but problems with it. The harddrive has failed on me about four times now and I have had to send it back to be fixed because of this each time. It just stops updating and crashes on me. I am using windows 8. So I got it back last week and I have skype Japanese lessons so I need my internal mic for this as the only other mic I have my partner uses and I do not think I should have to go out and buy another one. So anyway I get my laptop back last week and today installed skype so I could have my language lesson. When connected he said he could not hear me so I ended the call and checked all settings for sound and mic. Everything seems fine except for the grey bar which shows no green when I talk. So I checked drivers and realised I hadn't updated them since getting it back last week. I updated drivers and still would not work. I have tried it with different programmes like audacity and a few others so it is not just skype. I am not happy about this because each time I get my laptop back from repair something else is wrong with it except this time I didn't notice it till a week later. I have not tried to use my mic till today and the webcam and mic is the main reason why I bought this laptop for my japanese lessons. I am sick to death of sending it back and having to reinstall everything it tales a week literally to get everything back on. Someone please help I have tried everything that I have come across on youtube, google and even this forum and nothing is working. I am actually close to tears right now because I feel like I have been ripped off. Oh yeah forgot to mention the second time I got my laptop back my camera was not working and my friend had to fix that for me. So yeah have they done something to do or is it a software problem. I can not do a reset because I will lose everything again and it is too annoying having to put everything back on this poor excuse for a laptop and spending a week just installing stuff between work which is why it takes so long and not getting any use out of it. I have family and friends abroad that I can not even talk to now via skype or even facebook webchat. Please help!

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I opened the Sound control panel as you suggested and the Internal Mic (IDT) is shown in the list of microphones and has a green tick ( and is already enabled in properties). It is selected as a default device. ( the icon shows a picture of the laptop indicating the microphone on the lid  not the picture of the microphone as shown in your clip)
In the Sound control window there is a sound indicator panel to the right of the internal Mic Icon that has a green bar that moves up and down - indicating that the microphone is responding to sound.
However it is still not working in Skype and it is the Internal Mic that is selected as the device here.
Very frustrating as I really would like to Skype. I tried uninstalling and re-installing Skype Version 5.5.0.117 and this has not made any difference.
    Any other thoughts?
    Christopher

  • Internal microphone not working on iMac

My Inernal microphone is not working and I have tried the usual remedies:
1.)  Reset the NVRAM/PRAM by doing the Command+Option+P+R
2.)  Checked the Sound Preferences to make sure the Internal microphone is selectyed, Mute is unchecked, etc...
3.)  I tried to do the Apple Hardware test (AHT) but that did not work.  It just booted up normally when I held down the "D" key.
4.)  I don't have Skype or Garage Band operational and I am not using any external microphone.
Any suggestions?  I saw a post about deleting the "plist" but I left the post and couldn't find my way back to it again.
If I jack up the Input volume all the way I do see bars registering (on and off) on the Input level scale but no amount of shouting at the microphone generates any new bars.  I just had the hard drive replaced with a new Hitachi hard drive but the iMac seems to be working fine other than the internal microphone.  This al started when I tried to do facetime but the other party could not hear me.
I am using Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    Suggestions are welcome and thanks.

It looks like your mic has really ended its life, however that happened. The bars you describe indicate that the mic input is open (and subject to interference, but no good signal from the mic itself).
You will easily agree that any - costly - repair won't be worth it. See if you can get an inexpensive external USB mic, or one of these external USB sound "cards" that offer an analog mic input, plus a mic.

  • DV4-1435dx Windows 7 Internal Microphone not working

I upgraded to a professional version of windows 7.  My internal microphone has stopped working.  I can still video chat but no one cane hear my voice.  When I go into device manager, under Sound Video and game controllers it shows 2 high definition audo devices with no error messages next to them.  Only question mark I have in device manager is under other devices and known as unknown device.  When I click on properties it says location is pci bus.
Does anyone have a solution for these issues?  I'd love to have my onboard microphone to work.  Thanks for your help.
