Internal Monitor problem

Ok all,
I installed a new hard drive, did the 35X wipe, and installed the basic version of OS 10.4. Airport can't find my wireless network. I started moving files from my external drive to the internal but didn't finish. Now, when I start up I have no monitor display. I've wiped the Parameter Ram and attempted to have it start up from the install disk in an external CD/DVD drive to no avail. About the only thing I've not tried is starting up in Target Disc mode.
Any ideas? Yes, I realize the iBook is too old to do much with.... It's what I can afford at the moment!

Richard,
Yes, I still had monitor until after I began moving files/folders from an external FW drive onto the internal drive. I began by moving my "user" folders that I had copied to the external onto the new drive, replacing the folders installed when I formatted & installed the OS. I don't remember completing that operation however as time kind of "ran out" on me & I had to either get to bed or off somewhere else. Believing I was not in any trouble, I shut the computer down. That's when the monitor issue began; at the subsequent start-up.
As near as I can tell, the installed OS is working just fine. I close the lid & the computer goes into "sleep" mode. I can type my user password in and I hear it go through the login process and when I press the power button then "enter" to shut down it shuts down properly. I have reset the PRAM and PMU since this issue started; so far, to no avail. I am going to attempt to access the "new" HD in Target Disc Mode and see if I can tell the computer to either start from the install disc (DVD located on an external optical drive) or perhaps reinstall the OS to see if this clears things up. If this doesn't work, I'm going to reinstall the old HD which still has a usable OS on it & see if it'll restart from that.
AS far as other cables being disturbed; yeah, it's possible though, I was extremely careful to not move/remove anything not absolutely necessary. In fact, I didn't even completely remove the bottom shield. Just most of the screws & had my daughter carefully hold it up and out of the way while I "operated" on the HD.
I'm always open to any other suggestions!

  • External Monitor Problem-Only shows Background

First off, I am a new mac user and just got a macbook last week. So far the only problem I have occurs when I try to connect it to my PC's Monitor (yes, I have the adaptor). The problem is only the background appears on the Monitor when I plug it in (ya know, the blue wavy thing). Sometimes I get the mouse cursor, but no desktop or dock. The macbook recognizes that there is an external monitor, but it doesn't do anything about it.
Has anyone had this problem before?

It sounds to me like normal behavior when the system is set for "extended desktop". In that mode, the second monitor shows a completely different screen then the internal monitor; no menu bars or Dock will appear (that's all still on the primary monitor). That way you can drag windows, pallettes, etc. to the second monitor and clear the internal monitor for other uses.
If you want both screens to show the same picture, go to the Arrangement tab in the Displays system preference and check the box that says "mirror displays". You can also in that same screen arrange the monitors so that they correct reflect the physical orientation (if you wish); for instance, setting it so that if the external monitor is on the right, you get to it by moving the cursor off the right edge of the main screen.
    Regards.

  • MBP 15" 2007 internal monitor off, recognizes only external monitor

My MBP 15" 2.2 2007 2 MB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 8600 internal monitor has no video after startup.  If I connect my Apple Cinema Display to it, the video of the main monitor is on it, and the internal screen stays off.  If I hit the "Detect displays" switch, nothing happens.  I have tried the following:  reset PRAM and NVRAM, reset SMC, repair permissions using Mac OS X Lion Disk Utilities, and Onyx software as well.  I have also formatted the MBP and reinstalled MAc OS, and the problem persists.  Can anybody help?  Many thanks in advance

The max for single-link DVI (which is what comes out of the Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI Adapter) is 2.75 million pixels at 60 Hz, so it can drive a 1920×1200 display, for example.
Your old MBP directly output dual-link DVI, which goes up to 4 million pixels at 60 Hz (2560×1600).
Obviously, you're also limited by the native resolution of the external display.

  • Satellite C660D - internal monitor not working

    Hi Guys
I connected an external monitor to my satelite C660D win 7 64bit laptop and the on board screen stopped working
I went to the monitor settings and could only find the on board monitor restarted without the ext monitor and it started fine but with no display. Restarted again with ext monitor and the ext monitor is all that i have to work with re installed win 7 and the same problem exists is the mother board shot or is it a setting
    Andy39
    help please

    Hi
there is absolutely no life in the internal monitor at all and pressing the fn f5 key does nothing either except the mouse pointer just flickers. A long time ago like a year or so we had issues with the OS so I bought a new copy of windows 7 and installed it in the process removing all the toshiba features like the backup and system preserved partition which could also be part of my problem

  • M93p dual monitor problems; monitor turns off and cannot be turned on again

    Hi,
we have multiple M93p tiny computers causing problems in dual monitor setup (VGA / Displayport->DVI). Our users (already >5)  keep telling us, they leave their workplace, return, then DVI attached monitor if off and they do not find a way to turn it on. This is true; the only workaround that has been found by our users is to bring Win7/32bit into standby mode and awaking it again.
Needless to say, we turned all windows energy saving options off (computer standby/hibernate, monitor turn off). Still the problem appears.
Maybe there is something wrong with DVI power/DVI signal?
    - Monitor independent, as far as I can see
    - Independent from Windows energy saving modes
    - BIOS updates did not help
[todo]: Try Intel/(AMD?) drivers, let users test.
I haven't seen exactly when the monitor turns off because it is reported by users. I had a testing machine, but was not able to reproduce.
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/A-M-and-Edge-Series-ThinkCentre/Dual-monitors-problem-VGA-and-Displaypor... is related.
    Anyone?
    Thx

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Saffire reverb (monitor) problem - reverb drops

This affects the onboard reverb when recording.
From time to time, the Saffire internal (monitoring) reverb will stop working, and the sound sometimes gets garbled. For instance, say I fire up the Saffire, and Logic. I plug my headphones into the Saffire and I can hear the reverb I set, etc. I start recording. No problems. Then, maybe 15 minutes later, I will notice the Saffire reverb goes away. It's still checked in the Saffire control panel, and I can't hear the reverb while monitoring my recording.
At times, I will hear the sound distorted. I'm trying to duplicate it, but it seems to be random. Only seems to happen after some time.
I was wondering if anyone else experienced this. I have the latest firmware, software, and plugins from Focusrite.
    Thanks,
    Bryan

Any effect you think you've applied during recording isn't really applied anyway - it's only in the monitor path as all recording is, as per good practice, done dry.
If you change an effect that's in the channel you recorded in after the event, then yes, the reverb should change (because the channel is only treating the signal going into it in the same way it was when it was recording the signal - it's dry, so it's the same signal anyway, if you see what I mean). The only significant difference I can think of in operational terms between AA3.0.1 and AA4 in this regard is that the new version is using background mixing, but this shouldn't really make a difference... but whatever it is, changing the sound device settings won't make any difference at all; this is something internal happening, I'm pretty sure.

  • Possibly mundane Mini-DVI to VGA into an external monitor problem

    Hi,
I've had a look over the interwebs regarding my problem and it seems as if it's not unusual to have external monitor problems but I'm not sure if mine is slightly different:
I had a perfectly working set up with my new Macbook (the white one, '06 model I believe), that was connected to my Hanns-G HU196D monitor via a mini-DVI to VGA adapter, no problems whatsoever. But for a couple of weeks now my Macbook just flickers a light blue colour, with nothing at all on the monitor, and my macbook is unusable until I remove the adapter. I've read about updating firmware but I can't see my desktop once the macbook is connected to the monitor so it's not possible to configure anything. I've read somewhere that my external monitor isn't compatible with this set up, but it was until a couple of weeks ago!
My Macbook's 4 months old now and since then I've bought a new mini-dvi to vga adapter and a new VGA cable, no connections seem loose on either mini-dvi port or my monitor's vga port.
    Thanks if you can help!
    Jack

You will need to use a mini Dvi-dvi and a dvi-svideo/rca adapter.
    Joy joy hallelujah.
Pardon the sarcasm...I just wasted 3 hours of my life trying to sort the issue out.
Heard a KWORLD PlusTV PCTOTV Converter SA235 USB 2.0 Interface would sort the issue out for under 40$ but it's not Mac.
    Hope that helps.

    Hi,
There is a solved thread on this page about this error. The solution is to replace the battery because its storage capacity is low. The right part number can be found in a maintenance and service guide. Go to Support and Drivers page, enter your model and look in User Guides section.

  • Turning off internal monitor while using external one

    Hello, Apple Support Communities.
Before OSX Lion, anyone could turn off internal monitor while using external one, by waking up computer with lid closed, and the internal monitor will be kept turned off. But now, -I wonder what made Apple to think this way- Lion will turn on the internal one back on.
I don't care about all sorts of reasons why should I or shouldn't I desire to this. I just want it, because I have nice big monitor, which is apparently bigger than my Macbook Pro. Besides using double monitor will just exhaust my poor laptop. -mine is bit old-
I found ridicoulus answer from community, saying I should try fridge magnet. Sorry, but I don't want risk my whole computer, especially my HDD from getting magnetic damage. It happened so many times, -thanks my little bro- so now I am sick of magnet. I don't think Apple will cover this AKA magnetic damage anyway. -It wouldn't just damage, just erase your HDD-
    So.... Any helpful insights? Thanks.

Nevermind. I found solution. Though it cost me 24 bucks.
Now Apple is seriously making me to consider to roll back to sucking Windows.
    Thanks Jobs!

  • Macbook Air 13" - How to switch off internal monitor?

While working with an external monitor (e.g. TV), I would like to switch off the internal monitor. Is there any function which helps me?

this thread talks about running several monitors as advertised by apple and running demanding task on them.
with the lid open, the keyboard offers a very efficiant heat escape vector, which is blocked when the lid is closed - this is a basic and commonsense insulation effect.  this thread also mentions the use of temperature monitoring software and thus a repeatable test setup. the temps recorded were also mentioned. they rose when the lid was closed, the running task remaining unchanged. as far as i could track down the cpus in discussion will shut down around the 105 degree celsius range. i observed system shut downs when the system approached 103° celsius.  not to mention that the fans will run loud well before that.
again this is on hardware checked and ok-ed by apple service.
the question still welcoming an expert answer: is there any way to switch off the built-in macbook monitor while the lid is open ?

  • IMac A1311 broken internal monitor need to set external as primary

My internal monitor's backlight is no longer working.
I connected an external monitor, but I need to set it to mirror mode or to primary.
    F7 key doesn't work

    David,
If you leave the internal display open, you cannot turn it off, but you can turn the brightness down to zero.
You can in fact run the Lombard with the display closed if you have a USB keyboard, mouse, and external monitor. You must have the power adapter connected to run with the external monitor according to Apple.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58334
The default setting for an attached external monitor is extended desktop and you want mirroring; resetting the PRAM defaults to extended desktop.
To find your System Preferences or Displays panel...
    - Select All (command-A) > then start click-dragging across the screen until you find the HD icon > open the HD icon and find the Applications folder > System Preferences > Displays.
    - Or try this: Find... (command-F) > enter Displays in the search field.
