Internal or External Soundcards? Which?

Presently I'm using a Eurorack MX 602A small 6 channel mixer. Which I run the output into the rear Mac mini jack audio input. The inputs on the mixer are mostly 1/4" (guitar, bass etc.) and I use a MIDISPORT 2 x 2 (USB)...I only have a DX7s connected.
I was thinking of getting a soundcard. Which would be better an external or internal? I was thinking about an internal, then thought that it might drain my MacPro's power supply (electric or CPU).
I'd like one with at least one midi-connection, perhaps 2~4 1/4" audio jacks, one mic jack, don't really need that much.
The reason is sometimes when I play the bass thru the mixer the volume is just too low. Can anyone suggest a reasonable soundcard (price & performance) for use with Logic Pro 8? Thanks

Focusrite Saffire LE (FireWire)
Line 6 Pod Studio UX2 (USB)
ESI U46XL (USB)
These three all fit your needs, and cost considerably less than the Duet (which is top quality, but has a to steep price to quality curve imo). The last two don't have MIDI, but since you already have a 2x2 MIDIsport, you don't really need it.
About the Bass: I assume you mean a bassguitar? You should plug that into the jack (unbalanced) input of channel one or two (I have a 602 too) and adjust the preamp gain (small black pot below the input) until the volume is satisfactory.
regards, Erik.

You are not going to be able to add a "sound card" (or any other card for that matter) to your iMac. The best thing you can do if you're unhappy with the sound is to add a pair of quality external speakers. For a long time I had a pair of JBL Creature II speakers that were great until my kids poked their little fingers through the speakers. http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/jbl-creature-ii-21-speakers-ipod

  • [solved] question about two soundcards which use the same module

    Hi
I have two external soundcards, an Edirol UA-25 and a MAudio Transit. Both use the snd_usb_audio kernel driver. When I only had the MAudio, I configured it to be soundcard number 2 with the following in /etc/modprobe/modprobe.conf
    options snd-usb-audio index=2
Now I'd like to have one be soundcard number 2 and the other one soundcard number 3. The internal soundcard is number 0, my tv card is number 1, I don't want to change that.
    How can I do this?
Last edited by Army (2011-08-26 16:31:10)

Ok, works. For documention, here's what I did:
If you have two (or more) soundcards, which use the same kernel module, this is what you need in your modprobe.conf (or call this file just like you want, it only has to be in /etc/modprobe.d and has to be called *.conf)
    options snd-usb-audio index=2,3 vid=0x0582,0x0763 pid=0x0074,0x2006
This is what I have now. Index is the number of the card, e.g. you see those numbers in alsamixer when you press F6. The vids and pids you can get with
lsusb -v|grep idVendor # this is for the idv
lsusb -v|grep idProduct # this is for the idp
Just pick the line which stands for the soundcard, put these ids into the *.conf file and you're done. Now it doesn't matter in which order you plugin the soundcards, they get the right index.
    Quite easy after all

  • DNS Forwarding Same Internal and External Zone

    Hi,<o:p></o:p>
So we have decided that we want our internal domain to be the same as our external domain e.g. domain.uk. I understand that split DNS can be used
to fulfil this requirement but is it possible to set up a forward so if the DNS entry is not available in the internal zone it will forward onto one of our external name servers where it can resolve?<o:p></o:p>
We are basically trying to avoid having to add the entry on both external and internal DNS servers for it to resolve. So far I have added the external name servers to
the forwarders and disabled root hints which didn’t work. I’ve tried to add a conditional forwarder but it says the zone already exists. It seems the only to achieve the internal resolution is by creating the DNS entry both internally and externally.<o:p></o:p>
Does anyone know if this is the case? It seems strange that you couldn’t point the DNS to another external name server for resolution? <o:p></o:p>
    Any help would be appreciated.<o:p></o:p>

  • Delivery report shows status of Pending for external address. Email sent to both internal and external addresses.

We have an Exchange 2013 on-premise server and seem to have an issue with emails sent to internal and external users at the same time.
The issue came to light because someone sent an email to 44 recipients, of which one was internal. None of the external recipients received the email. I checked the delivery report in the EAC and found the internal email marked as 'Delivered' and all of
the external ones marked as 'Pending'. I checked the queues and there were none. I did some testing and sent an email to just one of the external addresses on the list, it arrived. I tried sending the email again to all of the recipients, the external ones
all showed 'Pending'. I tried it again, but this time excluded the internal email address and all of the 43 external emails were immediately delivered.
So it seems that the issue only arises when we are sending to both internal and external addresses.
I then tried a test email to one internal address and one external address. The Delivery report says that the internal address was delivered immediately, while the external address is 'Pending' and gives more information saying: 'Message delivery is taking
longer than expected. There may be system delays. For more information, contact your helpdesk.'. To add further mystery to this, the email was actually delivered.
    So, I have two concerns:
First is seems that some emails sent both internally and externally are only arriving internally. This is a huge problem because I don't know how many have been affected. There may be many lost emails we don't know about.
Second, it looks like I can't trust the delivery report. It says pending for some emails which didn't arrive, but it also says pending for some which did arrive. That is no good at all.
For info the server is running Windows Server 2012. I have run a Microsoft Update to check if there are any to apply and the only Exchange one is a spam filter update, which I doubt has any bearing but I will apply when I get chance.

    Hi Neil,
According to the description, I find a related KB on Exchange 2010:

It has the similar situation as yours.
This issue occurs because a function in a message tracking component tries to obtain the information for the recipient instead of the external recipient.
Please try to upgrade to the latest Exchange update to check whether this issue can be solved.
Also please check whether Throttling has been set.

  • Can I split my itunes music library between and internal and external hard drive?

Is it possible to have music on the two different drives and still be able to make playlists from both drives to put on my ipod?  Here's my situation:  I'm using a Dell 32 bit computer running Vista Home Premium SP2 which I share with other users.  I have a large itunes library (40g+ of music only) that's starting to hog the hard disk space from other users. If possible, I would like to split off part of my itunes library to an external hard drive while still having access to the entire library for my ipod. Ideally I would like to have all my downloaded songs on both the internal and external drives so I'll have backups in case a drive fails, while putting all the music I have hard copies of solely on the external drive. Any help on how this can be done would be appreciated.

If you manually manage your itues library, you can store parts of it on an external drive, or on an internal drive.  Just keep in mind that in iTunes that you must set a default location for iTunes to manage it's files, and that will be the default location for iTunes to store anything it downloads.  You would need to manuay manage moving things from there if tht is not where you want them stored.
Perhaps a "better" solution would be for you to invest a little mone into 2 external drives.  One to hold your entire iTunes library, and the second to be your off-line backup of the first.  This is the method I have gone with and I like how it works for me.  My entire iTunes library is on an external (portable) 320GB drive.  Then, when iTunes is not running, I will clone my external drive onto a second drive I happen to have, this way if I have any failure of my primary drive, I lose at most about a weeks worth of content.  For me, I purchase little content during a week, but I do move a fairly large volume of podcasts.  With the entire library being on the external drive, if I ever have to swap to using my backup drive iTunes wil just think that it hasn't run and downloaded anything for a week, and all the "lost" content will be re-downloaded automatically.  This won't work for apps or purchased content, but for subscribed podcasts, it is great.

  • Cisco ISE with both internal and External RADIUS Server

    Hi
I have ISE 1.2 , I configured it as management monitor and PSN and it work fine
I would like to know if I can integrate an external radius server and work with both internal and External RADIUS Server simultanously
So some computer (groupe_A in active directory ) will continu to made radius authentication on the ISE internal radius and other computer (groupe_B in active directory) will made radius authentication on an external radius server
I will like to know if it is possible to configure it and how I can do it ?
Thanks in advance for your help
    Regards
    Blaise

Cisco ISE can function both as a RADIUS server and as a RADIUS proxy server. When it acts as a proxy server, Cisco ISE receives authentication and accounting requests from the network access server (NAS) and forwards them to the external RADIUS server. Cisco ISE accepts the results of the requests and returns them to the NAS.
Cisco ISE can simultaneously act as a proxy server to multiple external RADIUS servers. You can use the external RADIUS servers that you configure here in RADIUS server sequences. The External RADIUS Server page lists all the external RADIUS servers that you have defined in Cisco ISE. You can use the filter option to search for specific RADIUS servers based on the name or description, or both. In both simple and rule-based authentication policies, you can use the RADIUS server sequences to proxy the requests to a RADIUS server.
The RADIUS server sequence strips the domain name from the RADIUS-Username attribute for RADIUS authentications. This domain stripping is not applicable for EAP authentications, which use the EAP-Identity attribute. The RADIUS proxy server obtains the username from the RADIUS-Username attribute and strips it from the character that you specify when you configure the RADIUS server sequence. For EAP authentications, the RADIUS proxy server obtains the username from the EAP-Identity attribute. EAP authentications that use the RADIUS server sequence will succeed only if the EAP-Identity and RADIUS-Username values are the same.

  • Internal and External different set of menu for ESS

    Hi
We have 2 portal server - Internal and External. The Portal are being used not.
We are planning to implement ESS now in Portal. We are planning to provide two different set of options when the same user access internally and externally.
For example, User XYZ access internally he will get menus ABCDE but the same user access from external he only gets manu AB.
If anyone has implemented with similar concepts or know how to do it technically, kindly advice.
    Thanks
    Yuva

Let us assume we have 3 internal groups :
    internalGroup_1 -> Role A, Role B
    internalGroup_2 -> Role C, Role D,
    internalGroup_3 -> Role E,
    and 2 external group :
    externalGroup_1 -> Role A,
    externalGroup_2 -> Role B,
We add similar user under a group. and then roles are assigned to groups. in above example Role A , Role B is assigned to internalGroup_1.
We can have a single user id in which is attached to interalGroup_1, interalGroup_2, interalGroup_3 , externalGroup_1and interalGroup_2.
When user logon to Internal portal he will see role A, B,C,D and E
and when user logon to internal  poral he will see role A,B.
provided A,B,C,D,E roles should exist in internal protal and role A,B exist in External portal. You can use transport roles from external portal to internal portal.

  • Setting multiple R12 iModules on same external tier which is in DMZ Zone

    Experts,
Could some one guide me on how to setup more than one iModules on same external tier which is in DMZ Zone.
We have already setup iStore and its working fine.
Now we would like to extend it to other modules like : iPayables, iReceivables and iRecruitment.
    Our current setup is :
Whenever external users try to access iStore : https://iStore.domain.com, It reaches F5 Load Balancer using SSL Port 443.
LB has the redirection rule setup to http://hostname.internal.domain.com:8000, with the help of 8000 port the requests reaches External Web Tier in DMZ Zone and gets served.
If we need to deploy/enable another iModules, how the setup needs to be served.
We referred the Metalink Note: 380490.1 for iStore setup.
Please advise as I am new to these external web tier setup.
    Regards,
    RR.

    >
Yes, We have un-commented and written the rule as below for iStore as per the Metalink note.
    RewriteRule ^/$ https://iStore.domain.com/OA_HTML/ibeCZzpHome.jsp [R,L]
However I am worried more about the defining routing rules in the reverse proxy:
    as of now F5 mapping has -- https://iStore.domain.com:443 -> http://hostname.internal.domain.com:8000
Would it fine if we write the mapping as https://iStore.domain.com:443 -> http://hostname.internal.domain.com:8002
Apologies if my understanding is wrong, as updated I am new to this external tier setups.
    Regards,
    RR.
    >
    Hi,
From your reverse proxy server setting it looks like you are planning on using module name in the url (i.e. https://iStore.domain.com:443) - in my case
what I did was I used a more generic url (e.g. https://sswa.domain.com - sswa meaning self service web apps) that way my url was not dependent upon a particular
module from the reverse proxy server. Since you mentioned change of port from 8000 (port pool zero) to 8002 (port pool two) - were you using
port 8000 and now planning on changing
your port on the system where you were already running iStore or is this for a non production/test system?
    Hope this helps :-)

Cannot install Yosemite. Keeps telling me that both my internal and external

Is it actively backing up, or are you encountering a dialog stating that Yosemite cannot be installed because the disk is being used for Time Machine backups?
Read OS X: Cannot install on a volume used by Time Machine for backups
If for some reason you have a folder called Backups.backupdb at the root level of the hard disk on which you want to install Yosemite, move it to the Trash.

    =====================
    Repairing the mysteriously muted Mac
The background on the issue is that there’s a small sensor switch inside the headphone port. When you insert a headphone jack, the sensor understands what's what and changes the sound output setting to Headphones. If you insert a jack for digital audio output, the device changes to Digital Out. When you remove the jack completely, it should read Internal Speakers.
The spirits tell me that there’s a very good chance that you recently had something jacked into this port—a set of headphones or a cable leading to powered speakers, for example. When you removed the jack, something in the port prevented the sensor from tripping correctly. That’s why you see Digital Out instead of internal Speakers.
The solution is to force the sensor to do its job. The safest way to do that is to simply run a jack in and out of the port a few times. Much of the time, this takes care of the problem by correctly tripping the sensor. If that doesn’t work, there may be gunk in the port. Before turning to more invasive techniques, get a can of compressed air, attach the small tube that fits the nozzle, and blast a few shots of air into the port. With any luck, that should dislodge the gunk and the port will operate as it should.
If that doesn’t work, find a foam-tipped swab that fits (electronics shops generally carry them), dip it in rubbing alcohol, and gently insert it into the headphone port in an attempt to wipe away any stubborn gunk. I recommend foam rather than cotton swabs because the cotton variety might leave threads behind. (This same technique works well with misbehaving headphone ports on devices such as iOS devices.)
It's possible that gunk has nothing to do with it. Rather, it may be that the switch just needs a subtle nudge. If a jack or swab doesn't work, I've heard of people successfully resetting it with a deft poke of a toothpick.

  • IMac - internal or external DVD?

iMac - internal or external DVD? That is the question...
Can you install a normal DVD burner in an iMac 800MHz flat panel?
If so, can anyone advice on the technical proceedure?
If installing an internal drive is easy enough to do, can you please advise on types, makes or specs to install.
My current DVD drive runs slow and I'd like a DVD burner, so is a seperate external drive the better option?
External drives just seem so expensive. THANK YOU!

    Hello,
    Internal.
Most replacement optical drives should work under Tiger fine. If not Patchburn will be the driver you need.
Most of us have Pioneer 'superdrives' installed by Apple so it seems sensible to stick with that product line.
The DVR-112 (18x DVD±RW DL for £21) seems a good deal to me (plus and hour or two of your time).
It's pretty fiddly to work inside an iMac G4 so you must be cautious. Always take anti-static precautions. Here are three options for guiding you through the procedure:
    MacWorld
    xlr8yourmac
    Service Manuals
I've also taken a fair few photos which you can find here.
I'd advise reading the reports on the xlr8yourmac drive database so get other people's experiences first.
You must replace the Thermal Paste when you close the iMac up or it will overheat.
It's probably worth replacing the PRAM Battery whilst you're in there as these have a finite life (once they fail to re-charge you may start to run in to snags - it's only a £5 part).
    External.
A whole lot less effort to install and should you upgrade to an Intel iMac / Mac Mini/ MacBook in the future you'll have access to this faster desktop spec tray loading drive rather than the slow laptop spec slot drive installed in these current Macs.
Let us know how you get on/what you decide.

We are created the oracle apps R12 instance with 3 tier. Two tier is Application tier and one tier is Database tier.
The data base tier is common for both application tier. The issue is, we are moved the all customized Development works into only one application tier (i.e. Internal tier). So we are not moved the all customized Development work into second application tier (i.e. External tier).
My question is, we are not moving all customized work into both application tier means , is there any issue will occur ?
How can we handle my customized works both application tiers( i.e. Internal and external tiers) ?
