Internal speaker feedback to internal microphone

Our PowerBook G4 recently started to emit loud high pitch noise from the left speaker when one puts one's hand just above it or when playing i-tunes above mid-volume. It did not previously do this; not sure if it started after we did a software upgrade. It sounds like feedback from the internal microphone to that side speaker. This seems to be confirmed by plugging in an external speaker which causes the noise to stop. Can this be fixed? How does one turn the internal microphone off?

Unfortunately I have already been to the Sound control panel. Reducing the input level to the minimum is not low enough to prevent feedback once the speaker volume is above about 60%. As for switching to "Line-in" the option does not exist, the only option is "Internal microphone". However, I am quite certain that once upon a time that option existed. Again my most likely suspects are either an OS (10.5.8) or iTunes (9.2.1) software update, a hardware problem with the input jack (perhaps it disliked the impedance of a standard 3.5 mm TRS stereo plug microphone I tried to use), or a setting of the Audacity (1.2.1) sound recording software which I was experimenting with, which has removed the "Line-in" option from the Sound control panel.

  • Mac Mini Internal Speaker and Airport Adapter

I have the 2008 Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo 1.83Ghz. I have been having problems with the internal speaker and the internal airport adapter.
    Speaker:
80% of the time, the internal speaker isn't working when booted into OS x, and when the mini is starting up it doesn't make the startup sound.
    Airport Adapter:
The signal drops to 1 bar all the time with the router but a couple feet away. It would start off as 4-5 bars and then drop to 1-2 bars and then stay there.
    Please Help!
    Thanks,
    Jimmy

    I FIGURED IT OUT!
To get this to work, you need to buy two things:
    1) Audio Hijack Pro software by RogueAmoeba, with the SoundFlower plugin.
    2) Griffin iMic.
Once you've installed both the hardware and software, do the following:
    1) In Hijack Pro, create a session with source type: audio device, and SoundFlower 2Ch as the input, and iMic as the output.
    2) Create a second session again with source type: audio device, and SoundFlower 2Ch as the input, but change the output to "Built-in Output."
    3) Click the "Hijack" button for both sessions, so Hijack Pro is hijacking audio from Soundflower and routing it to both outputs simultaneously.
    4) In System Preferences/Sound, change sound output to "SoundFlower 2Ch".

  • Having a MBPr late 2013 and having a sound problem the sound does not come tom the headphones even its all the way up and when i remove the headphones it docent come out the internal speaker either ? any idea how i fix this?

the sound do not come out the headphones sometimes altho its all the way up in the setting and when i remove the headphones the sound doesnt come from the internal speaker either and only a reboot fixes the problem and thats annoying! any idea how tto fix this?

Hello. I've been able to play sound without problems through headphones or external speakers to date - the output always switched to these automatically until today. Now, sound output continues through internal speakers even if I plug in headphones or external speakers.
    - I tested the headphones and speakers on other devices: they work fine.
    - When I plug in headphones or speakers into the audio output port (I have verified that I'm not using the input jack) the devices are not detected and are not listed under the output tab in system preferences-sound.
I concluded from this that I probably had a problem with the audio port, so to test that I tried the following. I plugged a powered multi-USB device with ports for microphone line-in and headphone line-out into the USB port and switched it on. I verified that it was working by plugging a USB stick into the multi-USB device - this was recognised successfully, so the device was clearly working. I then plugged in headphones and speakers into the audio line-out on the multi USB device - but still no sound came through them (and tey were not listed among output devices) and the Mac continued using internal speakers.
What should I do? Does the latter test suggest that the problem does not lie with the audio port, or is my test not conclusive? What would you advise?
    Many thanks indeed!

  • Qosmio X500 - How to enable recording from internal speaker?

How do you enable recording from internal speaker on Qosmio X500?
Is this possible because from Control Panel / Sound / Recording only microphone can be seen.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi
Do you want to record the sound that will be played through the internal speakers?
Therefore you can use the Windows Sound Recorder or other tools like Audacity. Latter is a very nice freeware tool. :)

[hp dv6358se] Internal speaker plays sound intermittent(every 15s). CPU use = Max when audio driver enabled. CPU use = normal ranges when audio driver is disabled. Head phone jack only plays out of one speaker. Lastly when head phones are pluged cpu usage returns to normal. Is there a possible software fix for this issue?

    snarfer,
You can normally mute the microphone in the Surround Mixer (that's provided in the software). As long as you leave it as the recording source it should still work in your voice software, but won't sound over the speakers.
Was the card always in the last PCI slot or did you move it there? If it always was there, try the slot just above it in case that particular slot shares resources with certain motherboard functions/components.
Do you still have sound problems when the microphone is muted, or taken away completely?

  • Does the new nano have an internal speaker like the touch?

    headphone free speaker?

Yes... it has both an internal speaker and microphone.
    From the manual (page 12):
About the iPod nano Internal Speaker
With the iPod nano internal speaker, you can listen to any audio on iPod nano without
earphones or headphones — except for the built-in FM radio, which uses the earphone
or headphone cord as an antenna.
Connecting earphones or headphones to iPod nano disables the internal speaker. Any
audio that’s playing continues to play, but only through the earphones or headphones.
If you disconnect the earphones or headphones while audio is playing, the audio
pauses. To resume listening through the internal speaker, press Play/Pause (’). If you
disconnect the earphones or headphones while the radio is playing or paused, the
radio stops and any paused radio is cleared.
If you choose Video Camera or Voice Memos while audio is playing, the audio turns off.

  • IPhone 4S won't play music from internal speaker

My iPhone 4S is having an issue with the internal speaker. Originally, I was able to play music from iTunes, Pandora, videos, etc. w/out having headphones or an external speaker system connected to the audio input. Now, the phone isn't playing back sound from the internal speaker, unless I have headphones/speaker connected. Keyboard clicks and text message alerts are also not coming through, even though that option is turned on. The Ring/Silent button is on, the volume is on high, and I've also restarted the phone a few times. The only way I've got the internal speaker to play w/out having an external speaker system connected to the audio input is if I test different ringers; then it will playback, but not for any other audio format (videos, songs, keyboard clicks, etc.)
Any ideas on how to fix this issue? I'm out of ideas...Thank you!!

    I would try in oreder:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • No music, video or app sound from internal speaker.

Ok so here's the deal... My itouch doesn't play any songs through the internal speaker but does through the headphones... Only thing is, it will make that swoosh sounds when connecting to a computer... I have done the 5 r's, went through all my settings such as sound check off blah blah blah... i sent it to apple and they didn't do anything for me because it was 'misused' which may be so but it should still play music right? Its not terribly beat up.. Another thing, does anywhere in the 30 pin connection engage the speaker i.e. when removed from the dock the speaker turns on? if you may be wondering its a 2nd gen... thanks for any input

My 3G's speaker stopped working sometime in the last week or so. After trying all of the support suggestions I call Apple Care, tried maybe 1 or 2 other things. At the direction of Apple Care I did a factory restore, still no sound.
Took it in to my local Apple store and they gave me a new one. So far so good with the new phone.

  • IPod will not play any music. Seems like it is in "Pause" mode.  No sound from either the head phones or internal speaker.  I have 418 songs stored and none will play.

Try restoring from backup. Next would be a restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

My internal speaker no longer shows as an output option; has anyone encountered this before?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
Option click the speaker icon, if present and select Internal Speakers.

  • I have a G5 power PC dual 2ghz  10.5.8 and my recording interface stopped outputting. I used 2 different interfaces and changed cables, neither solved my problem. With everything plugged up i can hear playback through the internal speaker.

I have tried System preferences, input and output. I have tried the midi controls in utilities. With everything hooked up correctly I cannot get the interface to playback through the box or record now. When i hit play I can hear the playback coming through the internal speaker on the tower. The interface previously worked fine, bought a second one and it is doing the same thing. Must be a system issue. Please help!

  • 10.6.8 - No audio out (but internal speaker fine) - MBP5,5

After upgrading to 10.6.8, plugging in my earphones or headphones does squat. My internal speaker still works fine though
I've tried the AppleHDA rollback (to 10.6.7 version) to no avail  - each time either audio disables totally or I get the "Incorrectly installed extension" error
The most interesting thing is my problem seems subtlely different from the 'popular' audio problems. Most bizarrely, audio out works until I log in (works on the login screen). It dies and I receive asserts on the console after logging in though (I'm not on the machine and I can't remember the exact assert message but something about failure during GOTO in some audio handler)
I haven't tried making another user account (to see if it's account specific) but I have tried deleting all manner of user-specific audio plists as well as doing SMC reset, permissions repair etc.
Any ideas? + Anyone have the same problem? (I'm presuming this is specific to this MBP + config)

one thing i have just tested i can copy files from my mac desktop to my macbook fine mmm!

  • Audio out from internal speaker, how?

I purchased iPhone 3G 8GB, before that I have been using iPod touch. With iPod touch audio from games etc came out from internal speaker if I did not plug earphones. But for some reason that does not work with iPhone 3G.
Only very few apps uses internal speaker with iPhone 3G, like iPod app. But rest of apps does not play audio before I plug earphones. Is there away to fix this or is there something wrong with my new iPhone 3G? I purchased two days a go.

all sound should come out of speaker if headset isn't plugged in. check in sound settings that "silent" vibrate isn't on.
also some apps have there own volume settings so even if you turn the apps sound down the phones other sound stays the same, such as the ringer..

This is the Mac Pro desktop forum. I requested your post be moved to the MacBook Pro laptop forum.
Please move the MacBook Pro forum. Thanks
Also if you mean by external is via the headphone jack then try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
