"internal speaker output device missing"
The internal speaker output device missing in system preference's sound window. How do I get it to show up?
I recently had this issue too. It worked fine when I had my headphones plugged in, but when I unplugged them it would say "optical digital output" on the right and nothing under name in my sound preferences instead of internal speakers.
I have a 15" macbook pro, so I plugged my headphones into the other headphone jack and unplugged them again - idk what its called or for I was just messing around - and the internal speakers showed up again and it started working.
Maybe try that

I can plug external speaker in , and they work, but would prefer to use the internal speakers. Software is up to date
Look forward to hearing from you
Many thanks
SunnypipHopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

Output Device Missing in Final Cut Pro while burning
Our Output device in dropdown box is now missing all of a sudden. I wanted to know how to manually resolve this issue, if anyone could assist? We were burning a DVD from Final Cut Pro 10.0.09. and we got an error message:
Not sure what happened during burning. We tried inserting a single layer disc instead of a dual layer and now we cannot view our output device in dropdown when we go to share it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!Do you mean your optical drive is not listed? What is listed…for example, Hard Drive?
What are your system specs?

I know that this isn't a new problem to people, but I can't conclude whether or not there's been a solution for this yet. My issue is that my partition of Windows Vista is only missing an Audio Output Device.
Welcome to Lenovo Community! MintyAnt
1. Uninstall existing audio driver and restart your computer.
2. Could you try update your system with System Update? Go to Control Panel > Lenovo - Update and drivers > Update all drivers.
3. If problem still persist after the following steps above, contact Tech Support.
Hope this helps

Reroute internal speaker output to external speakers
I have at least two games that output their sound only through the internal speakers. I wrote to their customer service and they only had the suggestion of using the headphone jack. This is confirmed to be working, but it's not ideal.
I've tried the built-in sound menu, SoundSource, JackPilot, and RogueAmoeba's LineIn to try to reroute the sound. I clearly don't understand how the audio is being sent from app to computer. But I am vaguely aware that Macs have some restrictions on crossing the in-to-out barrier. The programs mentioned are all aimed at that problem, not my problem of sending audio from the internal speakers to the external speakers.
I could connect a second set of speakers to the headphone jack. But, my crazy idea is to hook the headphone jack directly to the audio-in. There's no way that could work, right? My Mac Pro would blow up, yes? (Seriously, wouldn't that create a short and the heaviest paper-weight ever?)
Any other ideas? How is this so difficult?
thanks
jason.Um. To be clear, I was suggesting that I might run the headphone line directly back to the sound card, which would be amplified by the sound card and the external speakers (they plug into the wall and amplify as well). I was just afraid doing that would fry the system.
I don't exactly want to plug the externals into the headphone jack...
But for fun I tried it. Since the speakers are actually amp'ed, I'm getting kind of an insane amount of output from BOTH iTunes and the game through the headphone jack directly into the speakers. I guess I sort of solved the issue?
I mean, I still don't get why I can't go from the App to the Line-out, just like every other App.
(Maybe I'll invest in a small amp/splitter.)
jason.
ps. Crap, I seriously didn't mean to give myself the 5 points. Grr. Stupid site.

Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
Option click the speaker icon, if present and select Internal Speakers. -
How come some apps won't play sound on a USB device but only on the internal speaker while others can? Mac OS 10.8.5
You can simply set your system preferences
Sound preference
output - to whatever your USB device/audio interface is
Your question seems a bit vague to me though. So can you actually inform us of what it is you are trying to do and give us examples with named kit. -
How do I restore missing sound output device in system preferencces?
How do I restore a missing sound output device in the System Preferences. My MacBook Pro only shows a Digital output in the Sound pane and a red light at the Digital Output Port.
If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and a red light is coming from it, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.

With 10.2 I can only use a system (e.g. speaker) output for audio, NOT my RME FF400 I used without any problems previously. The FF400 works fine with other apps (some like TwistedWave) setup in the program, and others (like Spotify) using system preferences & audio midi setup. How can I set the FF400 to be the sound output device in FCP 10.2? N.B. The FF400 is set as sound output device in both system preferences and audio midi setup.
From the fcp.co forum. See if this does anything for you.

I have the solution! Well it at least worked for me. This is the response I got from Apple, Can you please try the following steps towards fixing your audio issue, and report back with your results?
1. Open the application Audio Midi Setup (located in Applications : Utilities)
2. Select the Output Tab for the current output device
3. Select the Configure Speakers option
4. Select the Multichannel tab
5. Change the setting to Stereo Now mine was set to stereo but the left channel wasn't showing left. re-clicking on stereo reloaded the settings and after clicking apply it worked. -
I have tried System preferences, input and output. I have tried the midi controls in utilities. With everything hooked up correctly I cannot get the interface to playback through the box or record now. When i hit play I can hear the playback coming through the internal speaker on the tower. The interface previously worked fine, bought a second one and it is doing the same thing. Must be a system issue. Please help!

i used macbook pro 2009 OS X 10.9.5 yosemite and i got troubled on my internal speaker and it only works through external devices what should i do pls help?
This is the Mac Pro desktop forum. I requested your post be moved to the MacBook Pro laptop forum.
Please move the MacBook Pro forum. Thanks
Also if you mean by external is via the headphone jack then try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted. -
Sound Output - Internal Speaker and Headphone Jack?
I just installed my new iMac, which replaced my Mac Mini. I hook my Mac to my stereo via the headphone jack for playing iTunes. But most of the time I don't have the stereo on.
is there a way to keep the headphone jack plugged in and still have audio come out the internal speaker? Basically send audio output to both the internal speaker and the headphone jack at the same time?
On the Mac Mini this wasn't an issue because I had a splitter that ran from the mini to my monitor speakers and to my stereo.
Thanks!Hi, you can get the internals to give notice of emails & actions..externals for any other sound..
Sadly your wishes on this matter will not come to fruition...L -
My internal speaker on my iPod touch has no output?
I have an iPod touch (5th Generation) and there is no sound output from the internal speaker. Any ideas on how to resolve?
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Already suggested
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. Already suggested.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.

Internal speaker volume output is not loud anymore
After downloading Mavericks, my internal speaker volume output is not even as loud as my iPad. What can I do to fix this? It use to be loud prior to downloading mavericks. I don't want to have to buy a third party app to fix this. Please fix this apple!
Have you tried a PRAM reset?

I lost my internal speaker as a choice in output sound in system preferences. There is nothing on my output list. Now everything is stuck on mute...how do I fix this?
It was red earlier, but not now.
Then try again. The red light indicates that an analog plug jammed the digital audio-out port in the "mute" position. The spec for the tip-to-shoulder distance is apparatenly tighter for digital ports than it is for analog plugs.
On my MacBook Pro, I insert the headphone plug only enough to hear that I have proper sound, and then quit pushing. In this photo, the headphones are giving proper sound quality and separation but the jack's stop shoulder, on a pair of name-brand headphones, is obvioulsy not touching the computer case.
The iMac has the same kind of port. Don't stick plugs in all the way--just until you here proper sound.
