Internal speaker volume output is not loud anymore

After downloading Mavericks, my internal speaker volume output is not even as loud as my iPad. What can I do to fix this? It use to be loud prior to downloading mavericks. I don't want to have to buy a third party app to fix this. Please fix this apple!

Have you tried a PRAM reset?

  • Headphone and Internal Speaker Volume Levels

I saw a topic about this earlier, but it has become locked, so I thought I would post another to see if anyone has any information about it. Until recently, I have been able to set my headphone volume and internal speaker volume at different levels. In other words, I can set the speakers to a certain volume, plug in my headphones, set the headphones to a different volume, then unplug the headphones and the volume changes back to what it was before I plugged in the headphones. I don't know exactly when it started happening, but I can no longer set these at two separate levels. I have seen that other people are having this problem, so I know it isn't just something stupid that i am doing. Anyone know why this is happening, or what I can do about it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Assuming that you're not listening to songs that have been imported at very low level, the next thing to do is a full Restore. A Restore will remove everything form your iPod, reset it and then put back onto the iPod only what is in your iTunes library. So if you have items that are not in your library (and therfore on the computer) you need to sort that out first.
I believe it will also reset your user data in any Apps you use. There is a backup method for this, but I'm not sure how it works as I've never tried it.
If that doesn't work, there must be a hardware issue, which means booking it in for service.

  • Left internal speaker volume issue (very weak)

    Hello,
The left internal speaker on my MBA is very very quiet (barely audible at maximum volume and with right channel disabled). The problem seems to have appeared recently as I was totally enjoying my MBA's sound before.
I have already tried the following:
    - Both speakers are equally balanced in System Preferences/Sound and Audio MIDI Setup.
    - The 'Play stereo audio as mono' box is unticked in System Preferences/Universal Access.
    - Latest software updates installed, the laptop restarted after that, the trouble remained.
    - Already tried resetting the SMC or PRAM and NVRAM.
    - Already tried reinstalling a fresh OS
Grateful for any useful comments, views and advice.

  • Internal Speaker Volume

I have all of the audio settings set to maximum, but the volume of the internal speaker can barely be heard over any background noise in the room.  The volume through the headphone jack works great, so it doesn't seem to be a soundcard issue.
Does anyone else have similar issues?  I'd like to determine if this is normal, or if I might have a bad speaker.

Same thing, I expected something better. I wanted to use for skype but I can't hear a thing even at maximum volume in a quite environment. It was supposed to compete with Ipad...but Ipad is much better . I'm disappointed.

  • Speaker Volume needs to be louder!!

Man when you put the phone on speaker phone it's so low even if you turn it all the way up! Apple needs to fix this issue!

I have this issue with my new 3GS. Ipod volume is absolutely fine, almost too loud! Phone volume on the other hand, even when turned all the way up while in-call, is barely audible. This goes for both the speakphone and the handset speaker. Anybody have any fixes?

  • Output sound, NOT LOUD ENOUGH

I HAVE UPGRADED MY MACBOOK TO LEOPARD OS, AND AUDIO IS REALLY LOW EVEN-THOUGH THE VOLUME IS REALY HIGH. I WENT TO PREFERENCE SETTING, CHECKED SETTINGS AND THEY ARE OK. I CANT HEAR MY MUSIC LOUD ENOUGH THE MY MUSIC OR ANY OTHER AUDIO. PLEASE HELP.

    Hello,
Most notebook sound devices usually produce hallow sounds and are normally harder to hear at higher distances. Your best bet, rather than to push the limits of the speakers, ( they aren't great ) is to hook your laptop into some external speakers made for this type of operation. I usually hook my Macbook up to the TV along with my home theater system when I am using Front Row. I highly suggest you do the same.

The NB205 internal speaker volume is just not loud enough.  Are there any registry settings or software programs that would increase the volume from the speakers?

  • Nokia N91 Audio - Volume Output opinions -

    Hi Everyone

the Audio quality is fantastic, but the volume output is NOT loud enough, does anyone know if the Nokia N91 is louder? and of equal or better Audio Quality?

Well first off you need to define what you mean by "better" if by better you mean best compression then this is the order:
    eAAC+ (.m4a)
    AAC (.aac or .m4a)
    WMA
    Mp4
    Mp3
The "quality" needs to be depending on the bitrate but the bitrate depends on the encoder. E.G.
    Mp3 at 192 kbps= AAC at 128 kbps= eAAC+ at 64 kbps
In terms of audio quality you can get higher quality by using WMA, AAC or eAAC+ at the same bitrate of the mp3.
Say you convert a song to mp3 at 192 kbps, if you convert the same song with AAC, WMA or eAAC+ at the same bitrate (192 kbps) then they will be better than the mp3 in terms of audio quality. Mind you, you need to have very good ear to pick up the difference.
When you go down lo lower bitrates say, 32 kbps. Then the difference is clearly heard.
Encode a song in mp3 and also in eAAC+ at 32 kbps, and have a listen, the eAAC+ file will sound much better, this is due to the better compression algorithm.
So what it means is that a file encoded into eAAC+ will have better audio when producing smaller files. When you go to high bitrates (like 192 kbps) the difference is not so noticeable.
As for tools. I use Windows Media Player 10 to encode into WMA or Mp3. I also use Audiograbber from time to time to encode to Mp3. I use iTunes for AAC. And if I want to get small files I use Nokia Music Manager to encode into eAAC+.Message Edited by el_loco on 14-Jun-2006

Ok, I feel like I should share some knowledge.
Loudness: This effect increases the bass response at low output volumes (it compresses the freq) so that the bass is better defined even in low volume conditions. At full volume it actually creates distortion.
Stereo Widening: Provides a sense of space by changing the phase of the analog signals.
Equalizer: Is used to change the gain of different frequecies to accomodate different tastes.
I have Senheisser PXC250 Noise cancelling and the HD485 (these are just awesome but the cable is too long)
I also have the PX200 that came in the bundle. These are good but lack some of the bass that the original Nokia earbuds have.
Also, keep in mind that the source digital file can have defects or artifacts that can create problems, depending on the codec used, the bitrate and how good the codec implementation is (did you adjust the digital gain or pass it through some form of DSP processing). Just saying is MP3 at 192 kbps may not tell us anything about the quality of the audio file. And then there is the source audio. THere are CDs and CDs, even if it's the same album/artist, there are different mixes, re-masterings and what not that will yield different results.
I've seen some files that seem to not play as good in N91 as others but when I re-ecode them they sound great.

  • Hi there,  I have a ipad2, when I go to my ringtones I do have sound, if I go to music, skype or watch youtube I only have sound through my earphones and not my internal speaker

    Hi there,
I have a ipad2, when I go to my ringtones I do have sound, if I go to music, skype or watch youtube I only have sound through my earphones and not my internal speaker. I'm not connected to any bluetooth device or anything

Try plugging your earphones in and remove them again. Do that a few times ... Plugin and uplug ... and see if the sound comes back for the speakers.

  • MacBook Pro speaker volume

I just finished importing a ton of CDs to my laptop and now I find I cannot get the internal speaker volume up past a whisper.  Any thoughts?  This is barely audible yet is working fine on an external output device via Bluetooth.  And, for those of you who say reset PRAM or buy external speakers, this problem never existed until I recently began importing my music library.  I'm sure it's just a setting but I don't know where to begin and definitely do not want to re-import 1000's of songs at a new volume.  Please help.  Thanks.

    Hello there, Donna.
There are a few places where sound can be adjusted on your Mac. If you're in the iTunes application, the following link from the online iTunes Help Guide provides some standard information:
Adjust the volume - iTunes Help
Adjust the volume of music and video
Change the volume for all songs (like turning the volume knob on a stereo): Use the volume slider at the top of the iTunes window.
The maximum volume is limited by your computer’s volume setting.
Adjust the volume of a particular song or video: Select it, choose File > Get Info, click Options, and drag the volume slider. iTunes uses this setting each time the song or video plays.
Have all songs and videos always play at the same volume level: Choose iTunes > Preferences, click Playback, and select Sound Check.
If you’re using remote speakers connected to an AirPort Express: You can use the volume controls on the speakers as well as the iTunes volume controls. To use only the speaker’s controls, click the AirPlay button , click Single, and choose the speakers from the pop-up menu.
SEE ALSOChoose which speakers to use
Additionally the Mac OS Help Guide provides this information:
Turn the volume up or down - Mac Help
Turn the volume up or down
To change your computer’s volume, click the Volume control in the menu bar, then drag the slider to adjust the volume. If the Volume control isn’t in the menu bar, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Sound. Click Output, then select the “Show volume in menu bar” checkbox.

  • Audio out from internal speaker, how?

I purchased iPhone 3G 8GB, before that I have been using iPod touch. With iPod touch audio from games etc came out from internal speaker if I did not plug earphones. But for some reason that does not work with iPhone 3G.
Only very few apps uses internal speaker with iPhone 3G, like iPod app. But rest of apps does not play audio before I plug earphones. Is there away to fix this or is there something wrong with my new iPhone 3G? I purchased two days a go.

all sound should come out of speaker if headset isn't plugged in. check in sound settings that "silent" vibrate isn't on.
also some apps have there own volume settings so even if you turn the apps sound down the phones other sound stays the same, such as the ringer..

  • Improved speaker volume on late 2007 MacBooks?

I just bought a new 2.2 ghz black MacBook last week. The internal speaker volume sounds fine to me.
Did the Santa Rosa chip set fix this problem?

It may be that; or Apple put a better speaker system in the newer MacBooks.
In the older ones, it was pitiful. So I do hope Apple did upgrade the speakers, it could make customers happy.

It isn't exactly pitiful. I've heard that Apple released a firmware that lowered the maximum output. To fix this, you can download Audio Hijack. You can set the volume up to 200%.

  • Default speaker volume

I know this is quite weird question... but what is the default value of the internal speaker volume?
I have reset nvram but it didn't fix internal speaker volume of the "Mac OS", not a startup chime(I could fix speaker volume of startup chime by resetting an nvram).

  • Speaker Volume on MBP C2D 15" -- Fixed?

Did apple sneak a fix for the low volume on MBP C2D in their latest batch of updates that were actually intended for Airport? Since updating I've certainly noticed that I now have audible sound at 3, sometimes even 2 bars. Before I couldn't hear anything at 4 bars. Anyone else?

I'm glad it's not just me. I thought I was going crazy when I first noticed it. I had to turn the volume all the way down and gradually turn it up until I heard it to comfirm that I was actually hearing music at 2 & 3 bars. Granted, at that volume it's not loud but I could certainly make out the music and words. Before it was virtually silent.
