Internal speakers have stopped working (Lenovo W500 with Win 7 Pro)

Hi
I have a Lenovo W500 4062-5YG... O/S: Win 7 Pro
My sound device is a Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD.
The problem is, that the internal speakers have stopped working all of a sudden... I think it is a hardware problem since when I hookup external speakers or headphones they produce sound... but I am no expert!
I have done the following to try and fix it:
Disable, then enable audio drivers
Uinstall, then install audio drivers
Setting the internal speakers as the default speaker source
Restoring the system to an earlier day (where I knew that the speakers had functioned)
None of these actions have worked.
I actually thought I could perform a hardware test on the speakers in the "Lenovo Solution Center"... but it doesn't seem like it:-(
So...
How can I know for sure whether it is a hardware or software problem?
And more importantly - How can I get my internal speakers to work?
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers
Philip

Hello Philip,
As mentioned in your post, you have performed all the major troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. I suggest you to update your BIOS also in order to resolve your issue. You can download and update the BIOS update utility from the below mentioned web link.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_SG/downloads/default.page?
Kindly click on Quick path and put your 7 Digit TYPE-Model number(40625YG) in the box and then click on the Find My Product. Please click on BIOS and then download the BIOS update utility according to your Operating System. It might resolve your issue. If it will also not work then it seem to be an issue with hardware. Kindly get in touch with the support centre they will assist you and try to resolve the issue.
Regards,
Harish

My internal speakers have stopped working - when I click on 'sound' I get a little 'no entry' sign; I've done all the Preferences things, and looked at Help, but no result!

Though I have doubts for success, you might try a SMC reset.  It can do no harm.  Otherwise, barring suggestions from others, the Apple Store or qualified repair facility is the last option.

  • My iphone5 speakers have stopped working.  the headphones still work as does the ringer.  the phone indicates it is still in headphone mode.  does anyone know how to fix this ?

after running i disconnected my iphone headset.  since then my iphone speakers have stopped working.  i can still listen to music using headphones and the phone ringer still works but the speakers are silent.  when i adjust the volume it indicates it is in "headphone" mode.  Any idea how i can solve this problem ?

I have read in other threads with similar problems that cleaning the headphone jack/port seems to usually work.  The simplest method is to rapidly plug/unplug the headphones a few times.  See if that works.

  • I have an hp dv6910us and the system speakers have stopped working. I cannot reinstall the driver.

I have an hp pavilion dv6910us and the speakers have stopped working and no longer show as installed as a device.  I have tried reinstalling the audio device driver, but the hp website does not list a driver for my specific laptop.
Right now it shows that I have a bluetooth audio device installed.  I have never installed this device and don't know where it came from.

I had the exact same problem, updating updating the Mbox 2 drivers on the Avid website has fixed the problem.

  • What do i do if my speakers have stopped working?

what do i do if my speakers have stopped working?

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem.

    Hi,
Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Properties.  Click the Driver tab and then click 'Update driver'.  Select 'Browse my computer for driver software' and then select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.  Left click 'High Definition Audio Device' once to highlight it and then click the Next button to install it.
    Has this made any difference?

    My speakers have stopped working

Did they have you try resetting the PRAM?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US
The speaker volume setting is stored in PRAM, so resetting it sometimes helps when the speakers aren't working.

  • Pavillion Laptop with Windows 7 - Speakers have stopped working but headphones do!

    Hello
I have a Pavilion dv6 Notebook, with an AMD A8-3500M APU and Radeon HD Graphics card.  It is a Windows 7 64 bit system and was purchased in october of 2011
The speakers on my laptop have suddenly stopped working, but external speakers continue to function.  I have tried the windows troubleshooter, resetting defaults on playback devices, and updating drivers both through the device manager and through HP Recovery manager.  I have tried uninstalling and re-installing drivers, and a hard reset ofthe computer (unplugging all devices and power sources, waiting and restarting).  I have tried System Restore to restore the system to a date before the problem.  None of these have helped.  Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi there @Rob5
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that you are having problems with the notebook speakers., and I am happy to help with this. From all the trouble shooting you have described it sounds like it may be that the speakers themselves may have gone bad, or the connection is loose.
Before we look at the possible physical problem, take a look through this page first, just in case there is something you have not yet tried.
No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7)
If you are still getting now sound, then take a look through page 62 of 137 in this guide:
HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service Guide
That page shows how to replace the speaker assembly and the relevant part number, but before going that route, I would suggest just disconnecting and reconnecting the speakers, in case it is just a bad connection. Over time a connector can work itself loose. Just doing that may fix the problem. If not then you can call our technical support at 800-474-6836. • T510 - internal speakers just stopped working

I have a T510 using the Contexant 20585 SmartAudio HD driver for the internal speakers. Today they just stopped working. I run the tests and I get no sound left or right. Now I did notice something odd. I open Control Panel and then I click SmartAudio. I then click the third icon from the left at the bottom of the screen (Audio Director). Now on the right hand panel of the screen I see a large, red 'X' beside the laptop. That would be between the laptop and the headphones.... anybody know what that is? (Would it appear to signify that something is amiss with the speaker?)
Anyway, I've uninstalled, installed the latest drivers (May 2010). Still nothing... any ideas?

I can merely offer a suggestion, reset the iPad.

  • All apps have stopped working after syncing with itunes

    Hello everyone,
Extremely frustrated to find that after plugging my iphone into my comp for the first time since i've had it (about 3 months). I knew I had a good reason for avoiding plugging my iphone into the comp, because I have 2 other ipods and hate the way itunes tries to take over and do everything. No, i'm quite happy to manual manage the files on it. Especially when irritating things like this happen.
So I plugged it in for the first time on Saturday, and guess what, now NONE of my apps work anymore. Seems to be a common problem that no one at apple cares to admit. (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8294502) this old thread details the problem I am having. Now the apps start to open and close and dont work. Awesome.
I would've been more than happy to eat humble pie if i'd done ANYTHING dodgy to this iphone, but I haven't, and apples OWN device controlling application destroyed the functionality of the device, which I now have to figure out how to fix myself. Of course, apple wouldn't have any documentation on this issue.
Its sad really as up till now Ive had a flawless experience with the device and enjoyed everything about it, mostly how it works so well and everything is easy to do. Extremely irritated about this - will be telling everyone who cares about this experience.
Now, apple, or more like apples forum goers, how do i fix what itunes has done???

Three days and no response, 3 others mentionining same problem.
Apple clearly do not care about customers or have any interests in bug fixing their own software. This is clearly a widespread problem which has nothing to do with user software, the bug is in iTunes and apple dont even care to admit it or fix it. It doesn't even look like they monitor their support forums at all!
I was considering buyign a macbook. Ha ha ha. Good luck. Not anymore.
Have even called support and Apple are USELESS and I will not forget this experience, as will my friends.
My advice? Get an android phone... we all know that it will only take a month or two till google gets a much bigger app library. Hey and guess what - they'll let you maintain your phone manually if you want, and dont force you through some stupid clunky, resource intensive, bug filled program which makes everything stop working. Exactly what it did to me on first connection.

  • I was using my iPad this morning and my internal speakers just stopped working when I tried to turn my nighttime playlist on. Does anyone know what I should do?

I was listening to music this morning and the speakers on my iPad were working perfectly fine. Then I opened my iSleep App and used it to turn on my nighttime playlist and my alarm clock and my speakers weren't working. I tried restarting it (twice) and it didn't work.
I plugged my headphones in and sound still comes out. And I don't listen my music all the way or for very long, so I'm pretty sure the speakers didn't blow out.
Does anybody what the problem is?

I can merely offer a suggestion, reset the iPad.
Press Home + sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until the white Apple logo appears.

  • My computer's speakers have stopped working

    Started about a week ago.
It does not make any sound at all. I ran the control panel feature and the speakers are enabled. The sound is maxed and mut is not on.
The test tone did not work.
I ran the HP support assistant and it did not detect any issue.
My sound equipment is IDT HD Audio CODEC and Intel Display Audio. Drivers: stwrt64.sys and IntcDAud.sys.
    I have a Pavlion dv7, run Windows 7.

Go to the link below.Enter your Product Number as listed on Service Tag attached to bottom of notebook (may be under battery). You can also get the Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key. After entering PN, click Next ,then choose Software & Drivers. On the next page use the dropdown to select your OS (probably Windows 7 64bit). A list will populate with drivers. Download & Save the latest Audio driver.
