Internal speakers, not found

somehow my computer seems to have uninstalled its internal speakers, any idea how i can reinstall them?

I had the same problem too! I called Applecare and, though they were very nice, they couldn't fix it. I had thought of trying what you recommended with the analog plug, but never did it. IT WORKED! THANKYOU!
Incidentally, I think the problem may have been caused (at least in my case) by doing the same thing. I was playing music through an amplified PA system and whenever there was no music to cover it, there was this high pitched whine or hum. It was definitely coming from the computer, so I would unplug it between things. It hasn't done it on any other external speakers, but it did it 2 weeks in a row on the same system. I haven't been able to test it again since getting the internal speakers back. Any thoughts about that?

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
4. If you've installed a software equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and restart.
5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
11. Reset the NVRAM.
12. Reset the SMC.
13. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
14. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

Trying to use headphones to watch a show online... sound still comes out of the internal speakers, not through my headphones.. i used help, said to go to sound preferences and choose headphones from the output pane, but it doesn't list headphones

If you see a red light in the audio output port, then the internal switch is stuck. Insert the earphone plug a few times and see if you can trip the switch. If that fails, insert a cocktail stirrer and the like and jiggle it around inside. If that fails, take it to an Apple store and have the technicians at the genius bar do it for you.

Why the iPad internal speakers not working with some applications and key sound?

My iPad1 ' internal speakers not fully functioning. It is working with music and video, YouTube , but not working with applications such as games.
Also with key pad sound .

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

Internal Speakers not working

Hi, my ipod touch 3G 32GB's internal Speakers are'nt working. Before they were. Until i did a system Restore, they stopped working. I tried cleaing Debris, dust, etc from them - or try, but they don't work. My Stereo Headsets (With ''On-The-Go'' Remote) Fully works. WHen i take the earphones out, and adust the volume of the INTERNAL speakers, the volume control says: ''volume (headphones)''
Even though i dont have any headphones in, it thinks they are in. With my Earphones plugged in, they fully work.I read the Manuall, Tech sopport in .pdf file, i tirted everything. But it wont work...
THey worked Perfectly fine before, but now they don't.

Having the exact same problem on the same device and by searching I have found many others with the same issue.
I have noticed that it works for a few seconds after every hard reset, but if you play some music and watch the screen you'll find that the volume control disapperas and it stops playing and then it won't play sound again.
This is the same thing that happens as if you had headphones plugged in and then unplugged them. For some reason the device things headphone are being plugged in/out and it's stopping the sound. I'm sure there's more to it than that, but that's all I got so far.
So frustrating, this thing isn't even 1 month old and there's already a problem.

Headphone Jack Glowing Red, Internal Speakers Not Working...

Hey, I have a 2.0GHz White MacBook (almost a week old), and I just recently came across this problem (this morning, actually). I usually have my MacBook connected to some external speakers through the headphone jack, the internal speakers are pretty terrible. Anyway, last night I left the computer on playing music as I fell asleep, this morning I woke up and the computer must have some how come unplugged from the AC power, as it was dead. I plugged it back in and everything was fine (I mean, it had to charge up, and the battery 'health' in iStat Pro was down to 93%, also not sure what this means... But everything else was fine). Then, I unplugged my external speakers and the jack was glowing red, I believe there's an LED inside. The internal speakers would then not work.
I did a quick Google search and discovered that this problem had been experienced on MacBook Pros. Someone recommended plugging in a set of headphones, I did so and then unplugged them and the internal speakers worked for a moment. I plugged in the external speakers again, and they worked (and work) fine. The problem is with the internals, they don't work, and plugging in my headphones again has not solved the problem, and the light is still on when the jack is not occupied.
Any ideas?
[edit] As of this writing, they are currently working, after plugging in the headphones again and unplugging them, however, the light still blinks when I do this, and there is a bit of a hesitation between the headphone being unplugged and the internal speakers kicking in... (longer than normal, I know there was always a slight delay, but this is a few seconds of blinking light and no sound).

you can fix this by "cleaning" the audio jack. the computer thinks that a digital output is connected. if you go to sound under system preferences, and it says digital output rather than internal speakers, then this is the problem.
I used a tightly rolled up piece of toilet paper to clean the jack. I twisted it up, stuck it in the jack, and then moved it around for a while. the red light went off and my internal speakers started working. someone else used a toothpick.
also, before i fixed this, i couldn't turn the volume up or down (unless i was using headphones) and the volume level screen that shows up on the screen had a circle with a line thru it...like the no smoking signs, but small and just under the volume bars.

Internal speakers not shown in sound output, no audio jack red light

Hellooo!
So basically my internal speakers in my mid-2009 Macbook pro are not working. When i try and change the volume i am getting the greyed out speaker symbol. Strangely, when a pair of headphones are plugged into the audio port and set to 'audio input' the internal speakers show up in system prefs, and the sound start working! When the headphones are removed it reverts back to not working again. I'm not getting the red light in the audio port.
This must be a software problem as they physically work when headphones are plugged in and i can hear the chime on startup.
I have tried repairing disk permissions, resetting the PRAM/NVRAM, re-installing OSX and the whole toothpick in the audio port thing.
I dont really want to have to take it to apple but I dont have any options left. My mac is pretty old, so i dont feel it is worth spending loads of money on it should the motherboard need replacing or anything similarly costly.
Has anyone else had similar problems, or a solution?

    Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
    Audio Devices window
    Side Bar
    Click the Built-in Output.
    Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

HELP! internal speakers not working

Hi! I was using my headphones, and when i disconeccted them, i can't hear anything . I go to system preference-sound and this is what i see...
There is not a red light in the headphone port.

Use the program Audio Midi Setup and make sure that the internal speakers are selected as an output device.
If that doesn't work you can reboot while holding down the option-command-p-r keys at the same time until you hear it cycle through a second time, hopefully followed by the start up chime. That will reset the PRAM.

hi all !
i have a dv9702ea which since i bought it has not made even a whimper from its internal speakers. the headphones however work fine ? . i have tried everything like all drivers ,installing drivers in compatability mode, all software like quick play and the like , i even bought a new power button , cable and a new cable for the media buttons . after all this i still have no sound so i am totally lost at what to try next i even tried swapping the speakers from a friends dv9700 but no joy . any help or advice you guys could provide would be very useful !

Have you tried to enable the Speakers in Playback devices as follows:
1. Right click speaker icon (right hand corner)
2. Select Playback devices
3. Right click Speakers
4. Enable it and set as Default
5. Click Apply/Ok

Macbook air internal speakers not working

My macbook air is nearly brand new, and suddenly the internal speakers are not working. I have checked and it is not on mute, the speakers are turned up (F12), and I have shut down & restarted. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
    Highlight Internal Speakers
    Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2. Remove the headphone.
    If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
    in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
    Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
3. Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405

    Choose the method for:
    "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup

G10 - internal speakers not disconnecting

When I use the headphone jack on my Qosmio G10 with an optical S/PDIF cable (Toslink) the internal speakers are not disabled, although the user manual (page 2-4) states they should.
They are disabled when headphones are used.
Is my notebook at fault or the User guide ?

You are absolutely right. The Users manual says that the internal speakers will be disabled automatically and this information is right. Audio jack contains a small switch who disable internal speakers if the audio jack is in use.
I assume that this small switch is defective. Unfortunately it can not be fixed on your own. Just service partner can check it properly. I am pretty sure that the warranty is still valid. Call them and explain the problem.

Audio jack and internal speakers not working!

So my internal speakers no onger work and when I put in my Apple iPhone earphones there is a high pitched sound and they become very hot to the touch. This happened when they were in my ear, not cool. I love my computer and I would hate to give it up for a German keyboard (I bought my computer in NYC and now I live in Switzerland) or not having it for an extended period of time. Comments? Suggestions? Help? Scheisse!

Internal speakers not registering

i plugged my mac into a sound board to play over the speakers today,
and after i unplugged it the internal speakers are not registering
i went into system preferences, and into sound... but the internal speakers are not even an option for my sound outputs.
