Internal USB 2 port
Hello,
Am about to install a USB 2.0 PCI Card with four external and one internal ports, in a G4 firewire 800, mirrored front, dual 1.25G.
Any ideas as to what I might use the internal port for?
Thanks.....BC
Any ideas as to what I might use the internal port for?
In a PC ATX case, the option for a front USB port or the use of a USB bay device is common.
The internal port on the PCI card allows a connection point for these options.
In *no way* does using the internal port disable any of the externals.

Apple USB keyboard does not work with one internal usb port
Hi everyone,
hope someone can help me to solve my problem. I have a MPB13 retina late 2013 since something like 3 months. I have additional screen (dell), usb wired keyboard (apple) and BT magic mouse.
Since a few days, my usb keyboard does not work well. It only want to work properly when plugged to the rights side usb port internal port and not anymore on the left one. It also work on a usb external concentrator. Before, I had no problem, it worked perfectly. There was no problem such as cofee on it...
After searching the web on such problem, I tries a few things such as:
I tried the keyboard on another computer (windows): works fine
I tried usb stick and external DVD reading on the left internal usb ports: works fine
I switch the MPB off and turn it back on: the usb keyboard still does not work on the left usb port
I tried the SMC and PRAM reset : nothing
Any idea ??
Thanks

I am looking for an internal usb port on the MAC pro motherboard. seems the Express 34/54 card requires a usb connection in addition to placing the card in one of the PCIe slots. The card manufacturer refers to the USB internal connection as an internal header. Not sure what this means but it would be nice to have an Express 34 PCIe card in the machine---using it with the new Sony SXS video cards.
any idea if the MB has one of these connections?thanks for the info. as I explained, I was trying to install an Express 34/54 reader card into one of the PCIe slots on a Mac Intel. There are cards out there, but they come with an additional usb cable that you must connect from the card (mini-usb connector) to the mother board (a female 5-pin connector--single row).
another solution is to buy the external sony device for $220. (Express 34/54 to USB2) which is an external housing enclosing the same card with a supplied AC adapter. This format will be a major format in the future for shooting video, so I hope someone develops a cheaper solution.
thanks for the help -

I have a mid-2010 polycarbonate/white MacBook (model A1342) running OS X 10.6.8. My machine has been having issues with the internal Bluetooth and keyboard/trackpad randomly ceasing to function.
Bluetooth issue
As of recently (the past month or two), the Bluetooth adapter will completely disappear and eventually reappear on a random basis. It won't appear at all in System Profiler, and the BT menu says "not available". Also, I have had a few kernel panics recently, all of which were apparently thrown by a Bluetooth process/daemon/driver (unfortunately I forgot which one, and also lost the logs from the panics.)
My system has a Broadcom Bluetooth chip that's part of the AirPort card, but is basically just an internal USB device. The adapter has some sort of integrated USB hub ("BRCM2070 Hub"), which the "Bluetooth Module" device itself is connected to.
Nonetheless, this seems to be some sort of problem on the USB bus. Whenever there is a failure, I will almost always see output in Console showing USB errors (ie errors about "enumerating a USB device", "clearing port power", "setting port power", "getting port status", etc). It will either be on any of the ports of the hub at 0x6600000 (the "BRCM2070 Hub" that "Bluetooth Module" is connected to), or port 6 of the hub at 0x6000000 (BRCM2070's port on the internal bus, which the keyboard/trackpad is also connected to on port 3).
I can post more/longer ones, but here's a somewhat short example of the error messages I might receive:
11/18/12 3:18:36 PM kernel USBF: 7351.492 [0xcf9b300] The IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating a USB device that has been plugged in. It will keep retrying. (Port 6 of Hub at 0x6000000)

Keyboard/trackpad issue
There's also an issue where the internal keyboard/trackpad will randomly cease functioning (until I restart), often a couple of times a day as of recently. I've had this issue on rare occasion for a while now, but it's gotten more frequent. And more recently, the caps lock light on the keyboard occasionally turns itself on when I'm away.
Both the internal keyboard/trackpad as well as the Bluetooth "hub"/device are connected to the same USB bus/hub. When the keyboard/trackpad die, I've noticed that there will be very similar messages in Console to those above and usually a Bluetooth failure at the same time. (In some cases, it seems to notice that the keyboard/trackpad isn't responding, then attempts to reset/reinitialize it...ie log below.) What could the root cause be...could it be the USB "root" hub/bus causing one or both of these to fail, or possibly a problematic device causing the other to lose connection? I haven't had issues with USB devices on other buses failing, though (ie no problems with external devices.)
Maybe more out of curiosity than anything else, but I've been poking around for info on what might be going on with the USB (aside from the 0x66 hub repeatedly dropping/reconnecting and etc), but can't find much. There seems to be no documentation about the error codes (ie 0xe00002c7) that the hardware/OS are relaying. I even poked through the source for some of the relevant kexts and some reading on OS X driver/kernel programming too...might as well learn more about the inner workings of OS X
Here's an example of some of the messages that I get about the Keyboard/Trackpad:
11/21/12 2:57:22 AM kernel USBF: 1439.228 IOUSBHIDDriver(AppleUSBMultitouchDriver)[0xd1ff000]: Detected an kIONotResponding error but still connected. Resetting port

Attempted fixes
Unfortunately, my Macbook isn't under warranty so I'm mostly on my own. First I zapped PRAM, reset SMC, ensured OS updates are installed (still on 10.6.8), and threw out a few drivers/software that were possible troublemakers. Next, I tried running another OS/install to rule out software issues. Accordingly, I found that the BT adapter sometimes disappears on Windows 7 as well (just did a clean install). And finally, I bought a new AirPort/BT card and installed it the other day. That seemed better at first, but I still have the problem of intermittent Bluetooth and keyboard/trackpad.
Problems/solutions?
What might the issue be, or is there anything that may be worth trying? As I mentioned, I've reset PRAM and SMC, made sure it's not an OS/driver issue (it happens on Win7 too), and replaced the Airport card. The machine does have aftermarket RAM (from OWC, ~2 years old) and SSD (Crucial M4, installed September)...but it seems unlikely that either of these would cause the problem. There haven't been any accidents that would have caused physical or (to my knowledge) electrical damage to it.
I also searched for any occurrences of similar problems, but could not find any that were applicable to the Macbook revision in question. There was a similar keyboard/trackpad issue on older Macbook Pros that was caused by stress on a ribbon cable...but that seems unlikely given the concurrent issues with Bluetooth as well as the different design.
The only thing I can think of next is to possibly replace the cable connecting the Airport card to the logic board, and possibly look at replacing the keyboard/trackpad (topcase). Anyway, I'm worried that it might be a hardware issue with the internal USB controller/hub, which would probably mean that it's unfixable unless I replace the logic board.
Any advice as to which of these might be a potential solution or cause of the problem? Or might I just as well sell it off in its current condition and replace it?
Thanks all!Has anyone find a fix for this? I've been using my Dragon Dictate headset on my MacBook Pro for about a year, and then today, when I plugged it in, I got this:
4/16/14 10:01:04.000 AM kernel[0]: USBF: 47.766 The IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating a USB device that has been plugged in. It will keep retrying. (Port 1 of Hub at 0x4000000)
4/16/14 10:01:07.000 AM kernel[0]: USBF: 50.269 AppleUSBHubPort::FatalError - Port 1 of Hub at 0x4000000 reported error 0xe00002c7 while doing clearing port power feature
4/16/14 10:01:07.000 AM kernel[0]: USBF: 50.269 The IOUSBFamily was not able to enumerate a device.
Here is what I have tried so far:
Reset the PRAM
Reset SMC
Verify disk (there were no problems)
Repair permissions
Boot with an external USB hard drive (which works fine on the "problem" computer) that contained an old SuperDuper clone of my hard drive from several months ago. I received the same "The IOUSBFamily was not able to enumerate a device" error when I plug in the headset.
Tried to headset on another computer, and it worked fine.
Plug in an external USB keyboard into the problem computer, and it works fine.
All of this would lead me to conclude that it is a hardware problem. But it seems that if it were a hardware problem, the external USB keyboard and external USB hard drive would not work (which they do). If the problem were with the headset, it wouldn't work on another computer, but it does. So I'm wondering if it's some sort of firmware issue…??????? URG!!!!!! -
MacBook Pro (mid-2010) Internal USB HUB freezes/locks up
MacBook Pro (mid-2010) wilth the latest firmware, etc.
OS X 10.9.1
USB KVM to share keyboard and mouse with another computer
This has been working flawlessly until I upgraded to 10.9.1
The KVM uses the Scroll Lock key to toggle the input between the two computers
I switch back and forth many times a day.
Almost once a day now, all my input to my MBP will lock up when switching the KVM over.
The MBP track pad, keyboard, blue tooth Magic Mouse, KVM mouse and keyboard all become unresponsive.
I am assuming that the interal keyboard/track pad/blue tooth transceiver are all tied to an internal USB HUB.
The MBP is up and running and I can ssh into it. The only error message in the log is that the mouse device coming from the KVM is busy and it will be disabled. I have tried to close the lid for several minutes and then re-open, but it does not resolve the issue. I have tried connecting another USB mouse/keyboard during this time and it will not work. I have tried kill -HUP on the usbd and USBAgent processes. Everything stays unresponsive. The only way to resolve this condition is to reboot the MBP. Note: the KVM works find on the other computer when I switch it back and forth regardless of the state of the MBP.
I am suspecting that when this happens it is some how disabling the internal USB HUB, which if all the other devices are connected through it, nothing no longer works (but maybe I am crazy with that thought). Anyone have any insight? Is there a way to reset the internal HUB short of a reboot?
Thanks in advance!I'm seeing the same problem with a 2010 Mac Mini with IOGear KVM and MS wireless mouse. This setup worked flawlessly for years on Snow Leopard but started hanging soon after the Mavericks upgrade. I'm running 10.9.4, currently the latest release. The system usually hangs after a KVM keyboard switch from Windows on the other set of KVM cables back to the Mac Mini. ssh into OSX works fine but a shutdown hangs indefinitely. top showed no processes spinning. The 1st console message after the hang was:
8/6/14 8:49:21.000 PM kernel[0] USBF: 1317978.201 AppleUSBHubPort: Port 2 of Hub at 0x6200000 about to terminate a busy device (Microsoft® 2.4GHz Transceiver v7.0) after waiting 10 seconds
There were no other messages for hours before this. I'm using VM Fusion but I think it hung once without it running. The Windows 7 side of the KVM works fine. -
Is iSight using internal USB BUS in Bootcamp (win xp ) mode?
Hello,
I am having issues with my musicall instrument that is plugged into Mac Book Pro 15" 2.0 Core Duo 1G RAM. The instrument is plugged into one of the USB port of MBP.
I would like to know if iSight in WinXP mode is using internal USB bus.
If it is, how can I disable it? Using device manager in Win xp?
Thanks in advance,
MTSame problem here exactly. I can't do anything with this stupid message box because both mouse and keyboard are not responsive.
It used to work in the past, it probably stopped working after upgrading to Snow Leopard. Please, someone come up with a workaround ! -
SATA, Internal USB, Firewire
I want to get an internal card reader for my sandisk extreme III CF. I was looking and found some that hook up internally via USB. Does the Mac Pro have any of these internal hookups, other than the SATA used for optical drive 1 and the 4 HD's, or the usb used for BT?
So,
-Internal USB? (are these possibly called headers)
-Internal FireWire?
-Extra SATA Ports?
Also I am looking into some kind of PCI card that would give me mic-level inputs, and preferably support 5.1 sound. I just want to confirm that only a "PCI-E" card fits and nothing else, right? Also what's the major difference between a 5.1 soundcard that costs 30$ and a 5.1 that costs 130$?in your search you best include deep sleep compatible. when you find one let us all know.

I just got a system going for my friend and added an internal card reader (6 in 1 compact flash memory stick etc) and It came with an internal USB wire but don't have room in my mobo for it. Is there a internal to external wire or adapter I could get? or pci card ? also this tower has 4 USB ports in the front...but have no place for the wires either...The mobo has 8 ports in the BACK!!! (6 on the mobo and 1 in the pci) some one help me before my friends start laughing at me.
This is a huge design flaw IMO. The intel chipset supports 8 USB ports, and MSI put 6 of them on the back panel (and no FireWire port). Who has 6 devices plugged into the back? Anyone with so many has a USB hub.
For my 6-1 card reader, I just left one of the USB ports unplugged so the reader could take it. If your friend's "PCI USB" is just the bracket with wires going to the mobo inside, remove it and use those for the reader. -
I have a DSX-S310BTX Media Player. I'm connecting a Flash Drive to the Internal USB port of this device. On the flash drive the mp3 files are labled by Title, Contributing Artist and Album. However, when a song is playing, the main display doesn't show the name of the song, and I can only do a "File & Folder" search by individual songs, but not by artist or album. Is there a specific way I need to label the files on the flash drive to be able to search the flash drive by song, artist and album?
Hi Triton,
You may try renaming files in your USB flash drive by title of the song first.
Thanks.

Internal USB connections for Mitsumi FDD
Hi everyone.
I'm 57, retired, trying to impress my children, grandchildren, and even maybe myself with this new hobby project of mine.
This is my first question post. I may have a few (??) others as this project goes on.
My old, current, PC is a DELL Dimension XPS R450 running Win98 I upgraded with a P3 1Ghz with 640MB RAM, 1 WD120GB & 1WD 40GB HD's, Yamaha CDRW and a new ASUS CD ROM with Comcast High Speed internet. I use mostly Netscape 7.02. PC runs great!
I am building my first PC with the components listed below. It has not been plugged in yet and no OS or drivers of anything loaded. I have several printouts from "building your PC" sites to follow.
I still have to decide where I want what connected to. I have, as of now, 1 WD 160GB SATA and 1 Seagate 160GB ATA HD's. I'd like to connected them to SATA 3 (Win XP loaded here) and IDE 3 in a Raid 1 format for mirroring thus freeing up IDE 1 & 2 for individual channels for the CDRW and future DVD RW drive. That's why I got the ATA133 Controller card for extra hookups (DVD Rom drive). My monitor arrives later this week.
I have 2 front USB ports on the case with 2 internal wires with 2 female clips going to JUSB1 pins. One clip goes to the #1-8 pins & the other to the #2-10 pins.
There are no JUSB2 pins on this board. It would have made this too simple.
I do not have the D-Bracket connected because that goes to all the JUSB1 pins and the JDB1 connection pins.
My question:
I have a Mitsumi FA 402 in Black 7-1 internal FDD (reads all the camera card types also) that has an internal USB wire and 4 pin (Female) clip that I don't know where to connect. I thought of connecting it to the 4 pins of the JDB1 but then figured that was not the same because the D-Bracket had its own USB connection that went to the JUSB1 connection and the JDB1 was strictly for that other wire on the D-Bracket. The rear of the Mitsumi has the standard Floppy cable pins, the 4 pin white power clip and the black wire for the USB clip. It states on the website "# USB Powered: No extra power supply required". I thought that if a device connects to a USB connection that the connection also supplies the power for that device. Why would I have to connect the white four pin power connection to the main PS, or am I wrong (confused)?
I have no manual and the website does not display a download manual for this model.
If I disconnect the one front 4 pin USB wire from the JUSB1 connection and connect the 4 pin clip from the Mitsumi in it's place will that work and will I still have one working front USB port? I think it would work.
Can I ever connect the D-Bracket? I have read in the past pages of someone wanting to connect a "Y" splitter for his fans to the pins on the MB and I learned that is a "no no". I am assuming this also goes for trying to put a splitter on the USB pins (if they even make this type of splitter)?
I have already read back pages and "Guides" posted by others of this forum for a similar problem with negative results.
I can say that the 3 days I have read this forum, it is the "BEST".
I'm sure someone has solved this problem with having front USB ports and an internal device needing USB connection. Any help or suggestions? All,
I think I found a card that may be of use for future info to others if this problem arises again. This is the first site I checked using a Google search for USB2.0 CONTROLLER CARD PCI EXT / INT
http://www.outpost.com/product/3744226
8 Port Firewire 1394 / USB2.0 PCI Card ( USB 2.0 - 4 Ext + 1 Int) ( 1394 - 2 Ext + 1 Int)
It also has pins connections on the internal of the card.
# Supports Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, and XP
# 4 External Type A USB 2.0 Ports
# 1 Internal Type A USB 2.0 Port
# 2 External 1394 Ports
# 1 Internal 1394 Port
# 1 additional port (pins) coming out from J3 For USB 2.0
# 1 additional port (pins) coming out from JP3 For FIREWIRE
# J3 & JP3 is for those people have USB and Firewire port in the front of their computer case.
* Pin header of Single port for cabling to front panel (Cable not included)
USB2.0 CONTROLLER CARD PCI EXT / INT
Guess I'll check the rest of the links from Google but this seems to fill the bill.
Thanks to all. -
Internal USB hub causing hang-ups?
Hi, firstly I am running on a 2.16 20" (white) iMac, Leopard 10.5.4.
My issue is that my startup time is tending to grow - not entirely unusual, but while checking the console, I noticed this particular error which itself was adding 10 seconds to launch...
"8/12/08 11:08:35 AM kernel USBF: 12.253 AppleUSBHubPort: Port 1 of Hub at 0x7d000000 about to terminate a busy device (IOUSBCompositeDevice) after waiting 10 seconds"
So I decided to investigate, and I discovered that the internal USB bus, which hosts the bluetooth and IR reciever, has Bus Number 0x7d. Bluetooth is also presumably port 1.
http://willydavidk.kittsplace.com/graphics/Picture%201.png
Does this mean I have a problem with my bluetooth reciever? Or could there be something else causing this issue?
A few more errors that are confusing...
"8/12/08 11:09:25 AM /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemUIServer.app/Contents/MacOS/SystemUIServer[1 14] CPSGetProcessInfo(): This call is deprecated and should not be called anymore. "
"8/12/08 11:09:25 AM /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemUIServer.app/Contents/MacOS/SystemUIServer[1 14] CPSPBGetProcessInfo(): This call is deprecated and should not be called anymore. "
"8/12/08 11:09:48 AM mdworker[88] (Error) SyncInfo: Boot-cache avoidance timed out! " - repeated once
The above 3 messages were all in sequence, you can see that there is a 23 second gap between the 2nd and 3rd. Do these messages mean anything to anyone?
If I could resolve these two sets of errors it would shave more than 30sec off of my boot time, which would be very nice! Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
-David

HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 color M551dn - Optional USB Device port
Hi, I'm hoping to buy the optional wireless print server (HP Jetdirect 2700w USB Wireless Print Server J8026A). There is one problem though, the optional USB device port seems to not exist on my printer. I only notice that the USB logo is present where the port is supposed to be. The plastic in the area is squared off as though it is some sort of break away tab and the port is underneath maybe.
There is no reference to this in the manual anywhere and I am really unsure how to proceed. I don't want to damage anything.
If someone experienced with this model (preferably an HP Employee) can confirm the availability of the port and tell me how to access it (Is it a break away tab?). Part of the reason why I bought this printer is the optional Wireless N print server.
Thank You in advance.Thank You for your reply. The port you are talking about is the front panel port for walk-up usb printing and firmware upgrades. This port is indeed available on the higher end LaserJet 500 (NON-MFP, printer only edition) as I just used it to upgrade the firmware. The port I am talking about is the one on the left side in the ports section which you use to plug in the optional print server (not the computer I/O port).
This is shown in the official manual and the spec sheet so I'm 85% sure the port is there, hp can't advertise and mention something that is not available as this would be a big problem and make the 2700w print server incompatible when it clearly states that it is. I just need someone to confirm the availability and clear my confusion (either from HP, or another owner who bought the wireless print server 2700w). -
Connectivity Issues with USB 3 ports on macbook pro
Hi, I have a zoom r24 which is no longer working as an audio interface with my new macbook pro. I have read a lot about issues with USB 2 devices not being compatible with USB 3 ports on the macs. This seems to be midi as well as audio devices. Can anyone recommend or point me to a list of supported devices for both audio and midi which are guaranteed to work with a late 2013 macbook pro retina display. I cant afford a thunderbolt device. Thanks steve
Just a wild thought here, but have you tried inserting a powered USB 2.0 hub between the MacBook and the interface?
