Internal WiFi card not getting IP

Hi there,
I am having a problem with my Airport in the way of it not getting a valid IP address.
At first I though this was due to the router. No so as my Sisters MacBook (exactly the same model and version) works fine. Also it will not connect to any WiFi signal including WiFi Hotspots.
I though that maybe it was because I am in a foreign country (I am traveling around Asia at the moment). To check I bought a USB WiFi receiver designed for MAC and for Asia.
Still no joy.
I connect to an access point and it comes up with "Self Assigned IP address".
Please can anyone help me????
Thanks
Fraser

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10695921&start=1
They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try. If that doesn't help, I don't have any other suggestions.

  • Internal wifi card recommendation?

    Hi!
I'm have a "little" trouble with my current internal wifi card (occasional system failure + ANI bug that forces me to recompile kernel). Also I hate it and it clearly hates me too. What bothers me is: at times when it's not f*ing screwing my whole system, it has by far the best reception, ping, even reliability (as long as I don't reboot -.-" / hibernate) of the four adapters I have had so far.
Can someone recommend an internal card that has it all? I mean: A piece of hardware that supports the "fancy modern" Stuff like 802.11n, that you've been using for some time with archlinux, that hasn't made ANY problems AND has great reception etc?
I've looked trough various "compatibility lists", all of the information I found looks either not reliable or not up to date (like... 2005ish). And some cards that don't work in ubuntu etc seem to work just with arch just fine... for fewer but still some it seems to be the other way around... I also recently acquired 3 wifi sticks that should have been IDENTICAL but aren't (exactly the same product, number, revision, chip... but the two I ordered after the first one turned out to work so neatly are slightly bigger and don't work AT ALL with current kernel *grrr*), so if you happened to have bought your "neat pci wifi card" from a reliable internet vendor or Amazon recently, a link to the product would be really nice, too. The sort of bad luck I've had with those wifi things for the last months stopped being funny a week or so ago... so...
Any hints? Do you have a (archlinux ready pci) wifi card that you really "love"?
    Thanks!

  • Wifi card not working

    Hi,
As of today my internal WiFi card in the iPad is not working anymore. The WiFi option in settings is grey and when looking into the "About" there is no WiFI MAC address (N/A). Is this a hardware problem or am I missing some sort of setting to enable the WiFi adapter?
    Hope someone can help.

if you tried holding down the home and power button to reset the ipad
and you tried restoring the ipad
and non of those options work I would bring it in for service

  • Buffalo wifi card not useable

I purchased a Buffalo WLI-CB-G54A card for use with my 15" Apple PowerBook G4, 1.67 GHz with built in Airport Extreme for better range and the ability to use an external antenna. The pcmcia card states it's supported natively with AirPort 3.1 drivers and up. It uses the Broadcom chipset.
The problem comes when I plug it in. If I plugged it in before startup it will kernal panic and crash at the gray startup screen. If I plug it in after the system is up the two green LEDs glow faintly but the AirPort menu lists the networks visible on the built in airport. I can't figure out how to "switch" off the built in and instead use this new one.
How is a third-party wifi card used on a powerbook w/ built in wifi already?

I have NEVER been able to use a PC Card wireless adapter successfully in my PowerBook G4 1.25GHz not to mention I get exactly the same behaviour as you, kernel panics and all.
What seems to be the problem is that Mac OS X sees the Broadcom based card as another Airport card. Coupled with the fact that it won't let you use two Airport card concurrently it will sit there and do nothing.
The only solution that I have found to this is to remove the internal Airport card. Fortunately or me I have access to the card but I believe this is not possible with the 1.67GHz model.
Alternatively you can try using a card that does NOT use the Broadcom chipset so that it is not recognised as an Airport card. Obviously you would then need drivers to make the card work.

  • Lenovo yoga 213 wifi card not working in the new laptop

I purchaed lenovo yoga 213 from Best Buy Boston and have brought to India. From the day one,the Bluetooth and Wifi is not working. On taking to their authorised service centr-Hitech technologies they have tried to replace the wifi card but even they are not able to solve the problem.I am trying to contact Lenovo for replacement of Laptop, but there is no response from them. What should I do?

Lenovo service centre has done all these after getting a replacement card
from Lenovo and again they have reported that the wifi replacement card
recieved is defective ,so they have asked for 2 nd time replacement of
wificard as well as the touchpad which they say carries the antenna for
wifi. The bottom line is i am tired of running around to service centre and
have not been able to use the laptop from the time i have bought the
laptop.I thought if there is a manufacturing defect lenovo, being a reputed
    brand will replace the laptop.

  • K7N2G.LISR internal graphics card not working

After building a new pc with msi k7n2g-lisr I can't play 3d games because after 10 seconds or less windows close the game and appears windows desktop.
I've installed an external video card and everithing works fine.
Does anybody know how can I use the internal video card?

    Hi Wonkanoby,
Thx for the link!  I am aware that also other people have had the same problem as I have not only with the Crucial but also with other RAM modules.
I did plan originally to get hold of 1 Gig's worth of Corsair as it looks most likely to work but it crossed my mind that I think it will not be a 100% stable system still  :(
Following this I contactd Crucial directly because I wanted to send the RAM back to them so I could be credited.  The employee had a word with the enginneer and he explained that Crucial could replace the module and give it another try as they were aware of a problem with the K7N2G-LISR board??  Looking on the paperwork that comes with the module it does say "Upgrade for a MSI (Micro Star) MS-6570 (K7N2G) system)".  I only mentioned that I had a K7N2G motherboard and there are all the other details there so it seems that even Crucial know about the problems with this m/b.  I took their word for it and would decide to give it a try in the hope I could finally sort this problem out but unfortunately it is the same problem  :(
The only thing we can wait for now is a strong BIOS update (see my post in the BIOS section) which will fix these problems with the NforceII chipset.  How long we will have to wait is another matter.  I for one cannot wait to long because I bought my board from E-buyer and their policy of RMA is 28 days or even shorter I think (cant quite remember).  I hope MSI can supply because the board is impressive if it did work.

  • Wifi card not recognized after reboot.

I've got a Lenovo X140e and an Intel wifi card. (Intel Corporation Wireless-N 7260) that I installed myself, since the support for the Broadcom card it came with was spotty.
If I reboot my laptop, the card won't show up with either iwconfig or even lspci. If I do a cold reboot (power down entirely and start back up), it will show up just fine.
    What gives?
    Relevant lspci output:
01:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 (rev 4b)
            Subsystem: Intel Corporation Wireless-N 7260
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 38
            Memory at f1300000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K]
            Capabilities: <access denied>
            Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi
            Kernel modules: iwlwifi

When the card is recognized, rfkill lists it as unblocked; when it's not recognized, it doesn't show up at all.
I've got i3 installed; for connection management I've been sort of trying different things - netctl never works but wifi-menu has been pretty reliable. I haven't installed any special power management stuff at all - I'm not really sure how to find out what was auto-installed?

  • Wifi card not working properly

I purchased an hp Envy in October 2014. The wifi card no longer functions properly.  Connections are intermittent or so slow they don't function.  Is this defect covered by warranty?  The wifi card is Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11
As long as I'm hard wired, I have no internet connection issues. But dysfunctional wifi limits mobility and eliminates one of the primary features that I relied on in making the purchase choice.  What is the solution?

  • Wifi card not connected after kernel update [solved]

    Hi,
I've got a broadcom wifi card (BCM43225). Having deconnections with the brcmsmac driver, I changed for wl (from broadcom archive).
Today I updated the system and got the b43 driver. My wifi card would'nt see any network. On the networkmanager applet (gnome 3), tab "network parameters", it says "disconnected" and i can't find a way of reconnect my card.
I rebuilt the wl driver, it works as for the b43 (wifi card on) but still it's disconnected.
    Extract of dmesg shows:
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
    Any idea ?
    Thanks

It's weird: I had already installed b43 firmware from AUR but it didn't work (kernel 3.0). As I yaourted b43-firmware it said: "reinstall ?".
So I reinstalled and it f***ing works.
I'm not sure I got what happened...
    Thank you though.

  • Tungsten E2: WiFi card "not supported"

I recently updated my Tungsten E2 with the most recent version of the WiFi software from the Palm Website.  No problems with installation, but turning the WiFi on in my settings menu gives me an error message stating "The card in the SIDO slot is not a palmOne supported WiFi card."  Pretty sure the card is a Palm card.  Any ideas out there?  I noticed a similar thread asking this question, but it was about 3 years ago, and no answers were received other than a suggestion to do a soft reset, which I did without success.
Thanks in advance for the help!!
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

I haven't read the instructions for installing the updated Wi-Fi card driver, but did you delete the old one first before installing the new one?
What I'd try next (only once you have a current backup via Hotsync) is a Hard Reset.  BEFORE you Hotsync your stuff back to the E2, go through the diagnostic process of renaming the Backup folder on your desktop...this will allow your regular PIM data to return, but nothing else.  Your Backup folder is located on this path:
    (using Palm Desktop 4.x):
c > program files > palm (or palmone) > [your device folder, usually an abbreviation of your Palm's name, or perhaps a combination of your initials, etc.] > backup
    (using Palm Desktop 6.2.2):
my documents > palm OS desktop > [your device folder] > backup
After you do this, go ahead and Hotsync.  Then, reinstall ONLY the new Wi-Fi card driver.  You should be able to just double-click on the .prc file from the renamed "backupold" folder.  If it works, then reinstall your other apps one at a time.  If it doesn't, then I dunno...maybe root around for the original driver and reinstall that?  If you don't have the original disc, maybe you'll find it in the Backup or the Archive folder on your desktop.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.

  • Wifi card not detected with ifconfig (solved)

    Hello,
I'm not sure wether I should post this here or not...
However, I'm using a Realtek Wifi card RTL8188CE on my laptop and I couldn't succeed in using it. (I'm using Arch x64, it's up-to-date).
I tried using ndiswrapper, but even when the ndiswrapper module is loaded and the driver properly created from the ".inf" file, ifconfig -a still doesn't display anything else than the usual "eth0" and "lo".

  • GS70 2PE Stealth Pro Wifi Card Not Showing

    Hi,
these weekend i used my laptop connect with lan card, and when i do that i disable my wifi card on the windows network panel, as i always do on weekends. Problem is that yesterday went back to the network panel and wifi doesn´t show. tried to enable and disable wifi through the SCM panel but still nothing, wifi card doesn't even show up on device manager.
Things i did this weekend was update the Bios to the latest on msi site and installed the vmware station to trie out windows 10.
    anyone have any idea?
    Cheers.

That isn't actually a reset hole it only cuts off the power from battery so if your etc gona do a change hard disk or something then you press in that button for it to cut off the electricity from the battery so motherboard has no power
I know what it does since samsung uses this type of thing as well on one or more models of theirs where battery is built in so you gota use pin and press this button that will cutt off the electricity to motherboard from battery.
Thanks for the input, Jakesully! The reason I brought this up was trying to give another thought as the problem was raised after BIOS update. And according to SOP provided by MSI, for some older models, they recommend removing both AC/DC power. Although I think it is just a long shot but it is no harm to give a try.

  • Which pcmcia wifi card to get for pb17" with Airport already installed?

Title says it all really... after 3 years the airport connection to all 3 of my apple base stations (1 X new airport extreme and 2 X airport expresses) is pathetic
Thought about a USB wifi stick - but that sticks out too much - would prefer to get a pcmcia card as I don't use it for anything else
So anyone have experience of which one to get?
Note that i've got airport express already installed in the pb - so would need to disable that or something - prefer it to be compatible without having to remove it - cos it's easier that way
