International calls. iPhone 4

Hi. What did I not do? Just got back from Costa Rica- had checked with AT&T and was assured iPhone 4 would work there ( if I needed to make calls). No such luck. Phone detected the cellular network but still showed "no service". Is this a sim card issue? Thanks

You do not need international dialing turned on or data roaming or any of that to receive an international call. Your phone's global settings are irrelevant.
Log into your Verizon account on your computer and make sure you haven't inadvertently blocked his number (Verizon will allow you to block up to 5 numbers). Have your friend try dialing your number manually rather than from a stored contact.

  • I am not able to make International calls from iPhone 5s

I got this new iphone 5s as a gift a week days ago, and It was working all great for 2-3 days. But from last 4days i AM not able to make international calls
Whenever I dial, I can't hear any ring going on and all I can hear is my own voice reverting back to me. Moreoever I am being charged for every call I make. I tried restarting my device, Also by connecting to itunes to find if any Update is needed but it says my iOS7 is recent no updates needed.
    Urgent help needed
    Thanks in advance.

A call is a call so far as the phone is concerned. Internation or across the street, it doesn't diferentiate between them.
    Contact your carrier.

  • OWA for Iphone and international calling card

    Hello,
I work as the Supervisor for a company that has just purchased many iphones.  The group that is in charge of email at my company will only allow "OWA for Iphone" to be used because in this way, nothing is downloaded to the device.  All email, calendar entries and contacts/people entries are web based.  Because nothing is downloaded to the device, the Iphone app for any international calling card company like Reliance or True Roots will not work.
When I say, "will not work" this is why.  All international calling card companies apps that I have found, access the local downloaded contacts on the Iphone itself.  I have not found any that can connect to the people in the  "OWA for Iphone" app to make international calls for cheeper prices.
Is there an international calling card company whose app will work with "OWA for Iphone" and not the locally stored contacts?  Or one that I can make the choice, choose the contacts from the local Iphone and or people in the "OWA for Iphone" app?

International calling apps allow you to call an entry from your contact list.  When you make a call from your device using this International calling app it will hang up, dial a 1 800 or 1866 number, then redial the international number you dialed and complete the call.  This allows you to call for example, India for $.06/minute instead of $.50/minute or what ever your provider charges you.  It basically make it so your international calls go through your international calling app provider instead of your phone provider.  You still use your phone provider minutes, but the cost is rerouted to your international calling provider/partner.
    1. I know, its so hard to do anything.  Yes all smartphones (Iphones, Androids, Windows, etc...)  The email admins will not allow anything to directly download to the device from the company.  The OWA for IPhone app uses the web browser but changes the view of the email to look and feel user friendly.  Basically, OWA for Iphone is using the web to look at all email, contacts, and calendar entries.
    2. The international calling app (Reliance and all others I have found including Skype) will only look at local downloaded contacts.  Because we are using OWA for Iphone there are no downloaded contacts. So, the international calling app does not see the contacts to be able to call.
If I go into OWA for IPhone and go to People and call somebody internationally +44 XX XXX XXXXX it works fine, but the international calling app does not activate becasue the app can't see the number.  This is because its looking only at the local downloaded contacts list, not the contacts on the web using OWA for Iphone

  • What is facetime audio and can I use it to make free international calls between iPhones?

what is facetime audio and can I use it to make free international calls between iphones?

    First, check
    1. Settings > General > Restrictions: should be OFF > FaceTime: ON?
    2. Settings > FaceTime > FaceTime: ON?
ou can be reached by FaceTime at: your phone number?
If all the above are correct, see below:
FaceTime is available with iPhone 4 or latter, except those iPhones that were sold in the Middle East.
Can you tell us which iPhone model that has no FaceTime?

  • Can i use iphone to iphone for free international call and text?

Can i use iphone to iphone for free international calls and text messages?

If both iPhone users are on iMessage, texting will be free, though there may be data charges if you do not have Wi-Fi. You can use FaceTime Audio in iOS 7 and later to call people but regular phone calls still count against your phone plan.

  • Verizon iPhone 4s Contact List/International Call Issues

Hi, my wife upgrade her ATT iPhone 3GS to a Verizon 4S. Everything went well except with anumber of issues that all seem to deal with how the phone interprets phone numbers. Here are the symptoms:
    – When a phone number is dialed from Contacts, Verizon answer and says you are not able to make international calls
    – In the contacts, phone numbers are displayed as 9165554444 in stead of (916) 555-4444. Even though on the orignial phone and her laptop they display correctly
    – When some calls or texts from a number on the contact list it is not identified even though the number matches those in the contact
    – When going to Settings > Phone the phone's own number is diplayed as 9165554444 in stead of (916) 555-4444.
Some solutions that begin to look promising:
    – if you place +1 in front of the existing nmbers they appear in the proper format, +1 (916) 555-4444, and dial correctly but this would require a retyping of many hundreds of numbers and doesn't totally fix the contact identification issue.
    – turning off "International Assist" helps in some of the issues above but not all, and I have always had this on for previous phones, both hers and mine. I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 5 and have the exact settings as she does and have non of the problems.
Anyone have ideas about a solution? I have heard of at least 4 other people having the same problem on different forums.
    Richard

Here is something I found in another thread that fixed all the problems ...
Here's another fix that I found in a different thread that worked great for me and is much simpler:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16380402#16380402
    The summary:
Here is the summary of the steps I took to correct the issue:
    1) Open the Phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
    2) When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"
    3) Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating something like, "Settings updated."
    4) Open the Task Manager and kill the Phone, Message, and Contacts Applications
    5) Wait a few minutes (I waited 3 just to be extra safe)
    6) Open the Message App to verify the fix.
If you are still broken, kill the Message App again, then reboot your phone.
    Good luck!

  • International Calls Made to Me

So this was random...at 3:45 am this morning I was woken up by the ringing of my iPhone, only to discover that it was a wrong number, from abroad!
It led to this question- I assume minutes would be used for accepting an International call while in the US, but would I be charged extra $$ too?

It should not, you just use you regular min. and at 3:45 should be under nights and weekends (if you have it) so you should not have been charged anything. ATT also has it so your phone has to be unlocked to make internatal calls(well when it was cingular you did) you just call *611 and say you want outgoing international to be alowed form your phone.

  • Roaming charges for incoming international calls?

That's pretty much my question. I read somewhere on here that I would NOT be charged for long distance or roaming if my IPhone 5 receives incoming calls from Germany. Before I tell my family that they can call me, I want to be absolutely sure of that.
    Thanks for your help!

Just like a landline, an incoming international call will not have any add'l charges. But it will use minutes from your allotment, unless it is after 9pm (Or 7pm if you have an Alltel plan)
    UPDATE: From VZW Website:
If someone calls me internationally from outside the U.S. will I be charged extra?
No, you won't be charged long distance or roaming fees if you're in the U.S and someone calls you from outside the U.S.

  • International calling / Vonage App

I just purchased my first bb yesterday for the sole purpose of utilizing the Vonage app for international calling.  (I am with Sprint therefore cannot get Iphone).  However, I just learned today that due to Blackberry's rules you cannot utilize the Vonage app to call back to the US from overseas you can only use the app in the US.  You can use the app from overseas back to US with the Iphone.  Does anyone know if Blackberry intends to change this anytime soon?  I was not jazzed about getting a Blackberry in the first place, but then to find out its now a waste of money b/c the app won't work and to make matters worse instead of paying $25/mo for unlimited international I will now have to pay about $.23 per minute really ticks me off.  This is not leaving me with a very good attitude or impression of Blackberry since this is only my second day with the phone.  Thanks for any help!!
P.S. with as many military/civilians stationed overseas one would think Blackberry could do a little better.

Vonage unfortunately seems to not have an app for Blackberry, only for iphone and Android per my investigation.   Vonage forces the use of mobile phone minutes to call using Blackberry via an access line, where the iphone and Android app lets you use wi-fi which I would hope works anywhere in world.   Because of the lack of Vonage App for Blackberry to use wi-fi, unless  Blackberry does something very soon, I will be switching to another phone operating system device.   Too bad, as I don't have any other issues with Blackberry.

  • HT1688 Is there any App for blocking the International calls on my phone?

Is there any App for blocking the International calls on my phone?

    No.
For security reasons, 3rd party apps don't have access to private iPhone APIs which such an app would require.
You want to stop being able to place such calls or stop receiving such calls?
If the latter, try stopping it at the source by contacting your carrier.

  • My friend thinks that if I have wifi i can make an international call for free is he right?

My friend thinks that if I have wifi i can make an international call for free is he right?
I think he is confused with imessage but that doesnt even work on calling.

You cannot make a cellular international call for free just because you have a WiFi connection. However, you can make low cost International calls over WiFi using apps such ase Skype or Google Voice. You can also Facetime to another iPhone, iPad or Mac over WiFi or cellular data; that is free.

  • Unadvised international call / message!

    Cheers to all,
i am going to attempt to explain this, bear with me...
a few weeks after purchasing my iphone (purchased and reside in the US), i recieved an international call from an unknown number. immediately after i ignored the call, i received a text message that contained nothing but squares for the letters or digits. i did a simple google search with the phone number that showed up on my caller id and the country code placed it in the middle east...afghanistan if i remember correctly.
Has this happened to anyone else? does anyone know how or why this happened?
    Thanks!

The previous poster, miyang, is correct. I have a similar issue trying to receive messages in from friends in Japan or Korea. Sometimes you may see squares and other times you may see question marks. Either way, it's being sent in a format that the system (AT&T's network) doesn't recognize. Notice that if you browse to a web page in the iPhone Safari browser with non-Roman characters, it works just fine.
Can't give you any other advice on how to prevent someone from sending you messages though!
    Cheers!

  • Can I block all international call-outs?

I bought an iPhone 3G in Hong Kong, and I have a lot of friends in US and China. Is it possible to block all the international calls, to block all the numbers begin with +1 and +86?

    heatherbobo wrote:
I mean block all call-outs. I would be very happy to answer their calls
Maybe I'm being naïve, but wouldn't the easiest solution be simply not to call them? Is the temptation simply too great?

  • Could facetime be used for international calls and free of charge???

Could facetime be used for international calls and free of charge???
Or does it work the same way as any other 2G calls???

For the iphone 4, I believe that have to do a initial voice call first (if it's not in your recent call list), and then start the live video chat (facetime). I could be wrong but if you have no recent call history with facetime, you would have to start a voice call again, and then immediately switch to facetime to prevent international cost. I haven't tried this so I would not now, but I only assume that if you don't have him/her on the recent list with facetime.
