International Calls Made to Me

So this was random...at 3:45 am this morning I was woken up by the ringing of my iPhone, only to discover that it was a wrong number, from abroad!
It led to this question- I assume minutes would be used for accepting an International call while in the US, but would I be charged extra $$ too?

It should not, you just use you regular min. and at 3:45 should be under nights and weekends (if you have it) so you should not have been charged anything. ATT also has it so your phone has to be unlocked to make internatal calls(well when it was cingular you did) you just call *611 and say you want outgoing international to be alowed form your phone.

I changed my data plan from 6g to 8g while my daughter who attends college outside of the US at Toronto Canada (and we have on a international calling and international data plan) was on spring break at her grandparents house here in the US. I made the change online since I had been waiting on the phone for over 10 minutes for a customer service rep to come available. Well when I made the change online since that seems to be the thing that Verizon wants it's customers to do and I didn't see all the different plans available and just did the upgrade to 8g. Next bill had over $900 in roaming charges on her phone line. I called the 1-800 number and waiting for a service rep and after 20 minutes of waiting and being put on hold was told it was the customers mistake and there was nothing they could do.Thanks for nothing. I called back after thinking about it and wondered why changing a data plan for the phones in the US would change a international call plan. Waiting over 10 minutes again between waiting for a service rep and hold for one to answer the call. Gave her all the information about it and she said she would call back. Well, 4 days later over the weekend she had nevered called back. So on the phone again for the third time and after 20 plus minutes again was told that when I did it online I click the plan that didn't include international call only the data plan. Explained that I never saw the difference in the plan packages so put on hold again and was told that they could credit $100 to my bill. Wow, thanks alot !!! We have been Verizon customers for probably atleast 12 years and this is how you treat your long term customers?

  • Obscene Prices for International Calls!!! What a Rip-Off!!!

I just took a look at my very first bill and to my surprise, my 10 year old had attempted to make 6 (1 minute calls) and 1 (29 minute call) to England to speak with her father. I admit it was partly my fault because with the last company they could just pick up the phone and call their father and I neglected to tell them that they could not do that anymore. Blah, blah, blah.....my 1st Verizon bill is $220.00 (@$100 or so in long distance charges for basically 1 call).
I called customer service to get some kind of relief but nothing. The advisor said that the billing is done by a 3rd party and that verizon can not do anything about it. I was a loyal Verizon cellular customer for 2 years, paying my bill on time and all and this is how they treat me.
I'm sorry...I know this blog si probably for people who have real issues but I needed to vent my frustration!!! I guess it's time to look for another carrier or go back to old one. For the sake of my sanity and wallet, I had a block put on my phone for international calls but how nice it would have been for Verizon to step up and do the right thing. They could have atleast put me on the international plan and backdated it!!!! GRINCH!!!! BTW, 1 minute call to England is $2.89 so don't make the same mistake!!!!

I feel your pain. I'm in bill shock too. I made one phone call to China and my bill was $200. When I called Verizon for help, they refused.
Actually the FCC received so many complaints about this issue related to cell phones that they were going to pass a law to regulate it. As a preemptive measure, many wireless carriers voluntarily agreed to send text messages to users when their charges were approaching their monthly limit. Unfortunately, there was no such action taken for landlines. Hence your and my situation.
It certainly would be a smart business decision for Verizon to include a voice alert on landlines warning you of the rate you are about to incur, as it would prevent these situations from happening, but they have yet to do so. Every time they do something like this, they lose a long-term customer for a quick profit.
Verizon is aware of the problem. It happens to millions of customers a year. But until people like you and I put pressure on the FCC to regulate them regarding landlines, nothing will change. So I encourage you to contact  http://www.fcc.gov/

  • International calling via skype

Hi,  I am interested in giving skype plans for internatiol calls a chance to see the quality of the call. I already have purchased a 1 month subscription plan for my desired country. However, I was thinking more about this and a question came to my mind: When I am using skype on my phone (Andorid if it matters): a) will Skype need wifi or internet connectivity to make this call? If not, then b) will it make the call via my phone plan? If not then, c) how is Skype making the call if it's not using internet connectivity or phone connectivity to my cell phone provider? I want to be sure that I am not actually making an international call via my phone service provider, which I then have to pay a lot of money to the provider at the end of the month. To me, it is natural to think that since Skype started as a VOIP service, it still needs internet to make such calls. But from what I am reading, it seems that the plans that skype offers for phone calls, which require you to buy credit, still work without the internet. Am I right on this or am I getting the whole concept wrong?

Hello and welcome to the Skype Community.
Skype calls are made via the internet with this exception:

  • Incoming International calls receiving problem.

    Hi Team,
I have ISDN PRI E1 connection and i am able to recieve all international calls except two DID number. But I am able to receive national calls
without having any problem. Also noticed that We are able to recieve international calls from certain countries in these DID number.
Also noticed that call is hitting in the gateway and getting debug isdn q931 output with proper digit and Isdn Type:International.
For testing we replaced the phone with another, but issue has same.
Let me know  either is there any  problem with PBX system or problem with Service Provider.
Thanks in advance for your help!!!!
    Best Regards,
    Febin S

    Hi
Provide the debug outputs " debug isdn q931" and "debug voip ccapi inout" when the incoming call is been made.
This will help you to identify the Release Cause for the Call, based on that you can decide the call failure reason while hitting
    the Gateway.

  • Outgoing International calls barred

I've had this issue ever since I joined EE (almost a year ago) but as I've not been abroad much I've not managed to fix it yet - In my account settings (on this site) both 'Roaming Abroad' and 'Call Anywhere in the World' are enabled (on both the usage and the group usage screens). On my phone however (Sony Xperia Z3 Compact), if I go into call barring settings, 'Outgoing International Roaming' is Barred - If I try to disable this it asks me to 'Enter Password' - what it is looking for is a 4 digit pin which I do not have - I've spoken to EE tech support in the past and was told they had enabled roaming settings on my account but this has not fixed it. How can I get this pin/change this setting? It is definitely not a hardware issue/phone setting, as per mutiple users on this forum:tried turning it off but it asks for a password - have rung ee and they have never heard of the problem - i told them loads of people have had same problem and that they have all posted it on this forum but they still couldnt sort the problem. Spent ages on the phone to them and been told to phone back tomorrow so they can try and get through to level 2 tech support. http://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Android-Forum/international-call-barring/m-p/211057http://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Android-Forum/International-Calls-Barred/m-p/139001 The fix generally appears to be :My final call was to EE and the tech support passed me to higher level (4?) tech who made a change on the network side hich had international calls barred even though roaming and everything else was set up on the contract side.  Resart and International Call Carring was disabled without having to enter the password.

    Hi ,
I can understand this is very frustrating and it does seem like you have tried everything.
I am going to send you a link to the chat team via a private message, they have sorted this for another customer today.
It's worth a shot to get this sorted.

  • BTBB Anywhere International Call Rates

Can anyone please post a link to international call rates from ?
I've searched for almost an hour now and called up to be told to check online but I cannot for the life of me find this information.

    Tommy,
Can't say I'm overly sympathetic with your situation, I'd gladly be in Cuba with no internet connection whatsoever!
I'm not sure I can be of any help in getting you costs for calls from Cuba. Aside from roaming rates within the EU, all other prices shown are for calls from the UK to other countries - it just doesn't show prices outside the EU.
Obviously calls made in overseas countries are local network dependent (I did some googling on roaming rates for calls to the UK from Cuba for various networks and they varied from about 140ppm to 200ppm - Vodafone, which BT piggy backs, is 149ppm).
Cuba isn't listed separately on the BB Talk rates which means it costs the standard international rate (17.3p per minute daytime, 11.4p evening/weekend), but again, this is UK to Cuba.
I'm not sure this is the information you needed so sorry if this isn't much help.
    Enjoy your time in Cuba.

  • International call rates

    Dear Skype Customer Support,
I want to know the actual rate for international call from Guam to Palau.  The rate listed in Skype website for such a call is US 43 cents per minute.  But it looks like I was charged way over or nearly 3 time this advertised rate when I Skype call Palau from Guam.  Please advise.

  • IMessage and Facetime Activation charges with an international call

    Hi there,
my mobile provider charged me for two international calls, which i thought i didn't make. I live in germany and the calls were made to a number in the united kingdom. So i did some research and could narrow it down to the configuration of my new iPhone 4s. I could recreate the international call: it seems that the iPhone 4s calls the uk number to activate the iMessage and the Facetime services.
Why is that so? The iMessage and Facetime activation on my iPad worked just fine over wifi without any extra costs.
I don't mind the 58 cent those calls cost me, but I'm a little bit ****** about the fact, that it was charged without any warning or notice.
Why isn't the activation possible over wifi or at least 3G?
    Thanks, bye.

    Hi,
I have the same problem! How can it be that after I changed my AppleID password, iMessage is deactivated and needs to be activated again?? For another 50 cents!! Like you said, it's just a few cents, but it's still annoying if you have to pay everytime you change your password!!
I hope Apple can fix this soon!
    Cheers.

Where do I complaint about International Calling Rates - FiOS Telephone?
Verizon FiOS (landline) billed unimaginable charges for phone calls made accidently.
If you don't pay for the international plan and you don't know what the rates are your are in trouble.

You can contact Verizon via live chat or email at:

  • Weird calls made from cell phone?

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
Today, I went online to pay my bill (due April 14th) and noticed an international long distance charge for $69.65 on one of the lines on my account.
I did some digging and pulled up the bill with the charge on it, along with all the phone calls made from each phone on my account. On this particular line, there are some VERY weird phone calls. On 2/26/11, the are numerous calls that start at 1:05 am and continue - there is a different phone call made almost every minute. It also happens on 3/11/11 in the evening, 3/12 in the early morning, 3/12 in the evening, and one call made on 3/13 at noon. Here is what it looks like (deleted my location for privacy):

    Mobile
It's just really freaking me out. This is MY phone BTW, and I haven't made ANY of these calls. I've called several of the toll-free ones, and they all come up as party/chat lines. I've never used a chat line in my life, I'm not big on talking on the phone - I'm a texter, not a talker. Not to mention the fact that when these calls were made I was either asleep or sitting next to my spouse. I'm she would have noticed if I were chatting on a party line!
I called VZW and spoke with customer service. She basically told me that it was IMPOSSIBLE for there to be an error on their side. So I called tech support. He told me that he didn't know what was going on and told me to contact Fraud - their computers/system was down so he couldn't help a whole lot. So I'm going to call Fraud in a little while to see if they can help.
The phone has never been missing or stolen. It's a Samsung Intensity II, so it's pretty low tech. I don't know what to do, we can't really afford to pay the $69.65 and obviously these calls have been happening for awhile - I'm afraid it's going to happen again. This phone has issues too - it constantly gets on to the mobile web and randomly opens things like the calculator.
What should I do if Verizon can't help me?

    Thanks for the reply!
I've called and spoke to a rep in the "Account Investigations". The woman told me that it's impossible for it to be a cloning issue - the reason she gave is that when a phone is cloned, the theif will run up your bill completely and call multiple different coutries. She said that it's still POSSIBLE to clone, even with the ESN numbers not the sim cards, but that it's rare and she claimed that because I only received a charge for $69.65 and only 80 minutes were used up total, that this isn't a cloning or fraud issue. She also said that the calls were valid because they were all made from my home area and incoming calls were received later that day. She also called the Canada number for me and it was a party/chat line as well.
Okay, whatever. I asked her if there was ANY way these calls could have been made without my knowledge - someone hacking in to the phone, the phone making calls on it's own...anything. She shot me down and said that she couldn't explain them - her only explaination was that someone in my home area had possesstion of the phone at this time and made the phone calls. She said it was impossible for there to be an error on Verizon's part. I told her that I gave my old phone to a friend of mine (who is single and LOVES to call party lines) and asked her if somehow the calls made on my old phone could be accidentally charged on my bill - she said definitely not. She advised me to use the parental control tools on the VZW website to prevent these calls from occuring again - which will cost me $5 more per month. I am probably going to do the parental controls thing - but I still just want to know what's going on. I'm not trying to get out of paying my bill, I just don't think I should pay for something I didn't DO. And the fraud rep didn't seem too interested in investigating further - she hung up on me, even. I have been a loyal customer since 2007 - always paid my bill on time, never made any complaints unless it was something I couldn't deal with myself...and now when I need them to help me out and just investigate a little further, they're not interested. I used to love VZW, but now I don't know.
What should I do? Just keep calling until someone helps me?
It seems possible that my old phone is getting confused with my new phone - when my wife's parents got divorced, her father shut off her mom's and sister's lines - not permanently, just temporarily through his account on VZW's site (you know, where you can disconnect the phone if it gets stolen or lost). When she tried to reactivate the phone on a different account, VZW cs reps told her than she couldn't because the phone was still "owned" by the account holder - the father. Now, the contract hasn't been renewed and the phones have both been permanently disconnected because the father chose to not renew the contracts and disconnected the numbers. When we tried to activate the phones, CS reps still claimed that the phones were "owned" by the father and wouldn't let us activate them.
Sorry for being long winded, I just want some help.

Whenever I dial, I can't hear any ring going on and all I can hear is my own voice reverting back to me. Moreoever I am being charged for every call I make. I tried restarting my device, Also by connecting to itunes to find if any Update is needed but it says my iOS7 is recent no updates needed.
    Urgent help needed
    Thanks in advance.

A call is a call so far as the phone is concerned. Internation or across the street, it doesn't diferentiate between them.
    Contact your carrier.

  • My iphone 4 does not register calls made to it. if i make a call from another phone, i can hear it ringing, but it does not register on the iphone. also, i do not get any messages when this happens. then after a day or two it decides to start working.

Clean iPhone charging port with clean dry toothbrush. See if better. If still problem clean charging port again with toothbrush and small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol.

  • Set up prepaid calling card for international calls?

I have a prepaid calling card that I use for calling international. The way it works is that I have to call a 866 number, followed by entering a 10 digit code, and then proceed to calling the actual number (with international prefix codes). Is there a way to set this up as international call default so that I do not have to modify all my international contact's phone numbers to include this procedure?
    Thanks.

speed dial: Your smartphone can store nine
phone numbers that you can call
with a single keypress. To store a
    speed dial number, touch Phone
    > Menu > Speed dial setup, and
insert a number in an empty speed
    dial slot.
To call a speed dial number, touch
and hold the single-digit speed dial
    number in the dialer screen.
