International iTunes versions

This might not be the correct part of these support forums, but I couldn't find anything else that would seem right for it.
Why is it that certain artists, songs or albums are not available in the Dutch version while they are available in the USA version of iTunes store?
I know Im not allowed to make an account on the American part, so I dont, but I do really want a lot of the songs on the American version, so doesnt this just encourage me to download these songs because they're not available for me to buy, while I would buy them if I could?
Thanks in advance.

Still makes me wonder if the rights holders prefer you download songs instead of buying them
In fairness to the rights holders, there may in some, or even many, cases be contractual issues with the artists. Some contracts just may not have provision for download sales (that was the case when CDs first came out, and for some artists it took months, or even years in a few cases, of negotations with all parties before the music was released on CD). Or the artist may not have label representation in your country, and CD sales are all imports, which would mean that there would be no one there to grant a license. No way to know. But in any case, it's not by choice of the iTunes Store.
Regards.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Hello i'm facing  problem  i downloaded itunes version 11 32bit for windows 7 and after i installing the set up when i opened the iTunes a massages  occur saying i tunes could not connect to iTunes store an unknown error occurred (-3212) even  though my internet is on

    Try this...
Triple click anywhere in the line below to select it and press Ctrl+C to copy it.
    cmd /k netsh winsock reset
Press the WinLogoKey+R to open the run dialog, then Ctrl+V to paste, then press enter/return.
You should get something similar to this:
Reboot the computer and the problem should be resolved.
If it doesn't work then perhaps a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes will fix things. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for details.

  • Downgrade to older itunes version that came w/ipod

i recently downloaded the new ipod update(why did i do that?) and the new itunes upgrade. after all the mess that the ipod update did, i decided to try to restore the ipod and go back to the older stuff that worked. when i installed the old ipod update everything seemed to be working fine, but then when i connect the ipod to itunes it says that it cant read or write to the ipod. it told me to go and restore the ipod with the ipod updater i went there and it gave me an internal manager error. i then looked around on the site and it told me that that happens when theres a "disagreement" between the versions of the update and the itunes version. it says to uninstall itunes and then install it again w/ a newer version. now, what do i do? do i uninstall itunes and then install it again with the newer version or do i uninstall itunes and then go back to the original version that came with the ipod? if i do that, where do i get the older version?
    any help will be appreciated
    thanks

I had trouble with the new version, also, so I downloaded the Quicktime standalone version, that many people here have mentioned. Then, I went to the "downloads" here on the apple site-- it should be up above on that purple strip of buttons under the support tab. And, I found the iTunes version 6.1, and downloaded that. I am using it, and it seems to be fine. The iTunes 6.1 was back a few pages in the downloads.

I have a desktop mac operating on Mac OSx 10.4.11 and the system does not recognize my iphone and I am unable to upgrade to the newest itunes version. What do I need to do?

    Backup first
It is always best to have a full bootable backup before you upgrade. If you fail to do this you will be unable to return to this OS if you decide you don't like the new OS. Also there is a slight chance that an install could lose everything on the Mac. The backup must be to an external hard disk. Preferably use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable backup of the whole disk.
    Erase before the install
Once you have a bootable backup on an external disk it is best to erase the internal disk with the new installer DVD before you install.
    During the install
Preferably do not import any data or preferences from earlier OSs during the install process as this can reintroduce bugs.
    OS numbers and names
    OS X 10.4.x - Tiger
    OS X 10.5.x - Leopard
    OS X 10.6.x - Snow Leopard
    OS X 10.7.x - Lion
    OS X 10.8.x - Mountain Lion

    Upgrade to Leopard
Those wishing to upgrade to Leopard should be aware that install disks can be expensive unless you contact Apple. Details: http://lowendmac.com/deals/best-os-x-leopard-prices.html Standard Leopard installers impose several hardware limitations including speed and RAM size but all these restrictions can be overcome. Google for details. Leopard works well at 500 MHz with 1 GB of RAM and many happy users have less than this.
    Upgrade beyond Leopard
OSs beyond OS X 10.5.8 require an Intel processor. If in doubt check this: Click the apple at the top left of your screen and select 'About this Mac'. This will give you your OS number. Then click 'More Info' to see which processor you have. If it says PowerPC you cannot upgrade to Snow Leopard and above. If you have an Intel Mac it is well worth upgrading to Snow Leopard now and then considering other options after that. You can buy Snow Leopard here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A

Check that your Mac complies with any requirements. If you are not in the US you should use the Change Country link at the bottom of Apple pages.

  • Have a Question with International iTunes/Stores.

    You see,
some songs/albums i would like to purchase have not yet been added to U.S. iTunes, and i did some exploring on some webpages, and found that there are international iTunes stores.
And I was just curious why i wasn't able to purchase something in the Japanese iTunes store,
    Currency?
or would i have to be a citizen?
    what is the whole situation
    thanks

Not sure about the official version but to me it is all about controlling the market. Apple will say it is a record label issue. One thing is for sure though, Apple are using their market share to overly inflate prices. Take Australia as a case in point.
We pay about 50% more for music here on iTunes than the US, why is this, mmmmmm might be something to do with the fact that we do not have access to Amazon.com music or Wal-Mart. In the UK Apple was forced to lower its rates to the same as the EU. Australia does not have the economic muscle so the prices are inflated because Apple can.
Currently the exchange rate is pretty close to 1-1 so how come we are paying (not me personally) $1.69 for the same track that sells for US$0.99
And the industry wonders why normal law abiding people turn to piracy. Hello music industry, there is a global economy happening, get to grips with it.

    Hi Dennis!
I have a couple of steps for you to try in order to get those songs transferred to your iPod touch. First, make sure all of your software is updated with the latest versions. If the songs were downloaded from iTunes, you will also want to delete the songs from your library and then download them again from the list of past purchases on your iTunes account. An article about doing that can be found here:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If you try a sync after those two steps and are still seeing the issue, then I would like you to try syncing the iPod by setting it to manually manage. An article outlining more information on manually managing your iPod sync can be found here:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
If you are still having issues after that, I have another article that can outline some other reasons why your songs may not transfer to your iPod, and it can be found here:

You need iTunes 10.0 or greater to update your phone...iTunes isn't confused at all. If you're on a Mac, you'll need OS X 10.5.8 or greater to update iTunes to 10.0 or greater.

  • I tried downloading a CD (lots of my itunes music is from CDs) and it went as normal but when i downloaded it to my ipod it doesnt say the name of the artist. I've tried everything. It only did this after i downloaded the most recent itunes version

So a lot of my music in iTunes is CDs and recently I was trying to download another CD to it and everything went as normal until I downloaded it to my iPod. So I know that to get everything to match you have to change the names and stuff to get the album to match the iTunes version exactly so that everything will go smoothly and I did that but when I downloaded it to my iPod I saw that it didn't name the artist. Where it should say the artist it says "Unknown Artist". I thought that it was just that particular album but than I tried downloading another album and the same thing happened. I've tried everything. I've double checked to make sure the album matches the iTunes version and it still does it. Everything is fine on the iTunes on the computer. It says the artist and stuff but than on my iPod it doesn't. The album artwork, name of the album, and name of the songs are all there but the name of the artist isn't. It never did this before and it started right after I downloaded the latest version of iTunes so since it happened twice I think it may be a glitch with either my iPod or with iTunes but I thought maybe somebody could help me? I guess it's not important but it really bothers me. Especially since it could be avoided.

Yes i've tried all of that. I've turned it all the way on and off and erased all of my music and put it back on and nothing works. And with the breaking up CDs and putting into compilation categories i have already fixed all of that stuff. It's fine it just doesn't show up in the list of artists. I can find the album in the songs category and the albums category it's just it doesn't show tha name of the artist. All of the other albums that i downloaded before i updated my itunes to th most recent update are fine. It's just the two that i downloaded afterwards. Thanks for trying though.

  • Something in iTunes version 7.6.9.2 is not working on my laptop (Toshiba)

Just this week I began having problems with my iPod nano (3rd generation) and my computer. Here's the deal: A couple of weeks ago I went through some of the files on my computer and removed them because I thought I didn't need them. One of those files that I deleted was Quick Time. I never knew that I needed Quick Time in order to use iTunes. Anyhow, I immediately uninstalled my version of iTunes and reinstalled iTunes (version 7.6.9.2)+ Quick Time. At that point in time, I was having an issue with my iPod displaying that it indeed was connected, but it wasn't showing up in iTunes for me. So I called the oh-so-helpful folks at Apple Support. That first call sent me on a wild goose chase and has cost me at least $100 so far. So when I first spoke with the Apple Support person, he went through all the steps that he knew could be done (ex. uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes once again). No advice that he was giving me was working, and he basically ended our conversation (because it was later than 6 pm Pacific time and they close at 6). He told me that once my Toshiba laptop (with Windows XP Service Pack 2) rebooted, everything would be in order. It sure wasn't! When I rebooted my system, my iPod no longer even said that it was connected! It simply lit up and then faded to black when plugged in to any of my 4 USB ports. Fortunately, I live near an Apple retail store, so I took my iPod there the next morning. The guy at the store tried my iPod on the store's computer that had Windows, and it (my iPod) showed up immediately. He then asked me to bring in my laptop so that they could check and see if there was just something wrong with my computer. I returned 3 hours later at my scheduled appointment time, and all the kid who looked at my computer could say was that there was a problem with my USB ports and that I should get a new laptop! I was extremely frustrated at this point, but instead of falling for the "buy a new computer" trap, I immediately took my laptop to Geek Squad within a nearby Best Buy. The Geek Squad representative actually took about 1/2 an hour to go through everything on my computer and (once he was done running diagnostics) let me behind the counter to see for myself that there was absolutely nothing wrong with a single one of my USB ports! He even went and got a brand new iPod of the same make and model as mine and plugged it in to my computer, and it popped up instantly! So after all this messing around, I decided to call Apple again to tell them that in fact, there was nothing wrong with my iPod, and also nothing wrong with my computer. The Geek Squad rep. said to me that there is something going on in my registration of iTunes 7.6.9.2 that is not closing out that is not allowing ONLY my computer to recognize ONLY my iPod. At the end of that phone call, I agreed to pay $40 to send my iPod off to get repaired/replaced, but immediately after our conversation, I thought to myself...Hang on a minute...My iPod is obviously not the problem here, so I just paid $40 for nothing! Next morning I called Apple again to explain what had happened in my previous phone conversation with them, and the kid on the other line spent all of 2 minutes claiming that there was nothing that could be done since my iPod didn't (and still doesn't) show up under the Device Manager. As a matter of fact -- nothing shows up in my device manager, even though I have both a mouse and a printer hooked up to my computer in 2 of the USB ports (one in back and one on the side) and both of these work (and always have worked) just fine! Any advice as to what I should do with the exception of banging my head against a wall and call Apple Support and pay for more cell phone minutes that are outside of my plan's coverage??!!

I think there's on higher version than 7.6.2.9

  • I currently have iTunes version 7 and I need to upgrade to version 10.  I am afraid of losing all my music if I just download 10 and when I use the "Check for updates" in the version 7 help menu, it tells me the server cannot be contacted.

I currently have iTunes version 7 on my computer and need to upgrade to version 10 to sync my new nano iPod.  When I tried the "check for updates" under the version 7 "help" menu, it said it could not contact the update server.  I am afraid if I just download version 10 from the website, it will wipe out my music library.  What should I do to upgrade?

Back up your music and install from the website. You probably won't need to do this, but if your library is erased, restore it from the backup.

  • Itunes version 7.6 and later will not open (no error message recieved)

All Itunes versions before 7.6 work fine on my computer, i am currently using 7.4 because i can not use 7.6. However, with 7.4 i can't update my ipod because it is a newer ipod. I have installed, reinstalled and tried many other things to get 7.6 to work but it will not open when i double click on it. The process runs as evidenced by the task manager but the hourglass disappears and it never opens. It is very frustrating any help please?

Often if I update iTunes, i need to reaccept the terms etc when i reopen it.
If you have other programs open, you often cant get this "terms acceptance" screen to come up.
I suggest closing all open open programs and then trying.
