Internet access in a foreign country

I will be traveling to Uganda, Africa with my powerbook and will have landline and wi-fi access available. Is there any special configuration needed to do this or am I all set to access the internet? Thanks.

Hi Richard, As long as your PB has an Airport card there is no reason why you won't be able to access the wifi network in Uganda. You may need to enter any network name/passkey asked for - depending on what the security setup is - but otherwise, should be no problem.
If by landline you mean dial-up then, again, your PB will have it's own modem. You'll just have to enter the appropriate settings.
Enjoy your travels!

  • How do I recover Icloud password if I don't have access to primary/rescue email and I cannot guess the security questions? (I'm in a foreign country and don't have a phone)

I just lost my phone and I'm in a foreign country. I'm thinking I won't get it back, but I'm trying to log on to icloud.com to use find my iphone app. However for whatever reason the same Apple ID has a different password for itunes and icloud. I have no way of calling apple or retreiving my forgotten password online. What do I do?

Without the proper name and password there is nothing you can do.
Your old passord is needed before you can create a new one.

    Hello darkhawk,
Thank you for the recommendation.  I somewhat understand what a MS DOS disk is, but I'm not sure how to go about creating one. I've seen where you can use a program, like Rufus, to create a usb one  - but I'm leery about using 3rd-party programs (especially ones I'm not familiar with). I've come across a couple of 'how-to' tuts, but they didn't clarify what files (if any) I would need to include on the disk (for my particular situation). Right now I don't have any blank cds, nor any extra flash/thumb drives - wish I did, but hadn't needed these for years. There has only been one other time where I needed to re-install Windows, but that was over 15 years ago - I did it through BIOS, reformatting my drives, and then reinstalled via the Windows XP disk. Windows 8 is an entirely different breed, which has left me feeling a bit stumped, at times. If there was a way I could perform it (successfully), similar to the first time I did it years ago, I'd give it a try - but at the same time, I'm a bit reluctant, because if it doesn't work, then I'm stuck without any internet access to get further help.
Ask and ye shall receive. This should be doable in Windows 7 and Windows 8 on another PC. I recommend using a USB Flash drive like in this tutorial, but I'm sure you could use something else.
If you want, you could also use Hiren's BootCD to make a bootable CD with many options and programs on it (I keep one, just for certain situations) that will allow you to do the same things.

Also very useful for sorting out virus's as long as it's downloaded and made on another PC that is virus free......

  • What happens if I turn off airplane mode while I am in a foreign country?

What happens if I turn off airplane mode briefly while in a foreign country? I need to delete video voice mails to get that red dot off and hopefully get my FaceTime to work again.

To delete visual voicemails requires data or internet access via a carrier's cellular network. Visual voicemail access with the iPhone is not done via wi-fi. It is done via the cellular data or internet network only.
Turning Airplane mode off will not turn wi-fi off.

  • Wireless Internet Access (Cisco IP NGN or Cisco Wireless Mesh Networkin)??

    Dear Cisco Wireless Team
Please educate us on where to start, or the CISCO product we might need to purchase
We are trying to branch out a new Internet wireless access and wireless phone service business in our company, and presently looking for the right Cisco product solution to purchase to enable us offer this service in LAGOS, NIGERIA.
The service will be rendered in Africa, the country NIGERIA, and the city LAGOS.
We would like to mount or install the product in Lagos, Nigeria.
As we are new to this kind of service. We would appreciate if the Cisco wireless team can work with us in pointing or directing on the right product to purchase and what are required. We understand the Cisco Wireless Mesh Networking Solution, Cisco IP Generation Network, Cisco 12416 or 7600 Series Router might be the right products to purchase, but we are not sure on what needed or what are required to meet our service need.
Possibly we would like to offer Wireless Internet Access to unlimited subscribers, and also Wireless or Mobile Phone service to unlimited subscribers in Nigeria.
    Anticipating your reply

I suppose Cisco Wireless Mesh Networking would be a good choice. The Cisco mesh architecture makes it easy to scale coverage as capacity needs dictate, including increasing access point density; adding wired connections, controllers, and radios; and using dual high-powered, high-sensitive radios and a selection of high-gain antennas.Refer the document for IP NGN in the following URL http://www.cisco.com/en/US/netsol/ns537/networking_solutions_solution_category.html

  • How can I install a jre on client machines with no Internet Access

    Hi
I have a lot of client machines located throughout the country which are connected to a central network (Oracle) application server. The client machines do not have internet access. The application now uses an applet which is accessible from the network. I would like to use the <jsp:plugin> tag to automatically download and install a jre on the client browsers that don't have a jre installed, when they access the jsp page. Unfortunately, even using iepluginurl="http://server-address/jinstall-1_4_2-windows-i586.cab, the client machines still need to access the internet to install the JRE as the cab file needs to access files at the Sun site.
Is there any online jre installer, that can be used on a network where the client machines do not have internet access? Or do I need to install the JRE manually on each machine? The browsers are all Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    Thanks
    David

    Thanks for your reply ChuckBing.
Unfortunately I had already copied the instructions I found in the Sun documentaion to the letter and it still needed access to the internet. In the end I solved the problem by pointing the iepluginurl to a non existent file and putting a URL, pointing to an offline JRE executable on the server, as the message that appears when the applet cannot be loaded. The clients then have the choice of downloading the JRE or installing it online by clicking on the URL.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Internet access in rural China

    Hello Everyone --
I bought the boss a Mac Book Pro and he took it on a trip to China. Internet access via Airport worked great in Beijing and Shanghai but not in rural regions in the interior of the country. Others were having no trouble connecting, but they were using PCs and going to sites in China. He was on the MBP and going to sites in the US.
What was happening? Do ISPs in interior China restrict the URLs you can go to (blanket restriction)? Or was it something in the machine setup?
    Thanks for ideas,
    Tferrooxidans

    Hi Tferrooxidans,
Do ISPs in interior China restrict the URLs you can go to (blanket restriction)?
Yup. Here's one source of further information (there are plenty of others):

  • TS1646 I live in a foreign country and would like to use my US credit card (which has my current foreign address) to make purchase in the US App Store. How do I do this?

I live in Japan but I would like to use my US credit card to make purchases in the US Store.
I had no problems with this previously, but I recently informed my US bank of my Japanese address and changed it (had to).
There is no way to input my Japanese address (so that it matches the bank information) in the fields for the US App Store (which has no foreign country fields, you are limited to having to fill in the US state field, flags me for phone number area code differences, etc.).
When I hit the change country button: A) It took me to the Japanese App Store; B) I could not use my US credit card there (despite my Japanese address).
Yes, I may want to make purchases in the Japanese App Store in the future (I am bilingual), but the selections are different depending on the country.
Now I can make purchases in neither country.
I want to make purchases in the US Store from Japan.
Help! I feel like I am getting punished for being global. (The world should be getting smaller, more interconnected, and more convenient with the Internet --- not the opposite!)

Well, I can certainly understand the licensing argument if I were using a Japanese credit card with a Japanse address and making a purchase with Japanese yen from the US Store from Japan.
When I am making a purchase with US card from the US store with US dollars, the argument becomes a bit suspect  (I know it is Apple's, not your argument).
it is just kind of a paradoxical situation and I am hoping Apple will offer some sort of solution. We can always hoe, right?
    Thank you for your reply.

  • Will I get charged by verizon for using free wireless in a foreign country

Hello, Sorry if this question has been asked before.
I am in a foreign location right now. DO not have any international plans with Verizon (just domestic USA phone minutes, and internet).
I notice that my droid-2 picks up the free wireless in the hotel and connects to internet with full functionality.
Will Verizon charge me for this, even though I am using free wireless?
I could not seem to find this answer on verizon's FAQ's.
DOnt want a giant internet access bill for simply using hte phone as a device to check email!!!

If you are talking about WiFi wireless, no. If you are talking about 3G / "Data" wireless, yes, very much so.
Since you mention "hotel wireless" I assume you're talking about WiFi so you should be fine. If you are in most of Europe, you're probably fine as there is very little support for CDMA in Europe. Asia is a different story, that does support CDMA in many locations, so you could be data roaming.

  • Can I text free to another iphone while both in a foreign country?

Can I text for free to another iphone while both in the same foreign country?  Going from Canada to USA.

Doubtful, but that depends on your carrier in regards to SMS and MMS.
Exchanging MMS requires an internet comnection with both no different from exchanging email.

  • How can i charge my iPad in a foreign country?

I am planning a trip to israel and want to take my iPad with me for pictures and internet access. How can i charge it on the electrical outlets there? I have a transformer but the instructions state that it is not for computers. Also, is the battery life lower if I take lots of pictures? Thanks! (:

All of Apple's chargers work from 100-240VAC, 50-60Hz power. You only need an adapter plug to fit the type used in the country you visit.
If you have an iPhone and an iPad, just take the iPad charger since it can also be used to charge the iPhone.
Using the iPad always discharges the battery, but taking lots of pics should not cause it to discharge excessively.

  • How to keep Creative Cloud working without Internet access?

I'll be out of the country for two weeks with virtually no internet access. How do I ensure that Creative Cloud will keep working if there is no way to confirm the activation?

    Hi there -
As you may know, a license check is performed every 30 days:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/faq.html
Do I need ongoing Internet access to use my Creative Suite applications?
Because your Creative Suite applications are installed directly on your computer, you will not need an ongoing Internet connection to use them on a daily basis. However, you will need to be online when you install and license your software, and at least once every 30 days thereafter. The software will alert you when you need to connect to the Internet for a license status check.
However, if the product is unable to verify your license at the 30 day mark, a 7-day grace period will begin giving you a little extra time. If you are not able to access internet within those 7 days, your applications will be blocked (Source: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4513667#4513667)
Unfortunately, there is no way to "force" the verification process to make sure that the check doesn't happen right as you are starting your 2 weeks away.
Here are a few forum threads that contain more discussion of this issue:

  • Very Limited Internet access - Download

I am now a Full Creative Cloud member. Can I download the complete Master Collection Creative Cloud Suite package for easy install onto my computer? I have very limited internet where the work computer is. I can get broadband from another location and would like to fully download the package from there and then take to the work computer for install. Is this possible? Or is it possible to ask for the software on disc?

    G'day Mylenium,
Cheers mate for the link, however this does not offer the 'most-up-to-date' versions of all the software on offer as a paid 'Cloud' member.
Surely there is a way for Cloud members to download the most up to date paid software without restrictions for easy install onto a computer that does not have or very little internet access?
My office computer is located in the country and the only internet available, and very on and off due to poor reception, is 3G mobile coverage. At $49 per month for only 3GBs, this is very expensive, so we use the internet sparingly.
I do have access to a broadband else where to download content, but I am not allowed nor is it suitable to take along the WorkStation Rig to this broadband location to install downloaded software.
I am happy to download the occasional update and to have the software do a monthly check in for licencing, but to have to download large files is just not possible.
I must be missing something from Adobe, surely they have addressed this concern for others before?
    Cheers
    Michael

  • Internet accessed videos aren't playing sound but sound continues to work through itunes etc (not internet)

I have watched a few online videos and played music from youtube this morning either through head phones or the computers speakers. The sound is now not playing through internet accessed videos/ games/ music etc that require sound but the sound continues to play through non internet accessed videos/ music etc. Wondering if i may have clicked something in order for this to happen?

Unfortunately I am not aware of any method to resolve this as in most cases simply loading up PC Suite then attempting to make use of its functions will prompt an update that leaves you with PC Companion anyway. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • Guest Internet access in the Enterprise

We have set up guest internet access in our enterprise using GRE tunneling with a PIX. I'm trying to determine the best way to do authentication for users on this guest network.
I think I can do RADIUS (using ACS) with the PIX as an NAS. Question is can I use a different type of server (such as MS IAS)? Can I use either one to utilize an existing MS Active Directory database?
If I use radius on the pix for authentication, a login prompt pops up when a user tries to use the web. Is there a way to redirect users to a web page first and have the login embedded on the page? This is done in hotels now and I don't know if there's a Cisco solution for this.

The following documents lists all the supported Databases,
