Internet accounts in Yosemite and Mail preferences

I have recently installed Yosemite. I am having problems with Mail. I wish to add my BT POP mail client. The account is not in Internet Accounts but appears in Preferences in Mail, but I cannot delete these to start again as it says I can only delete from Internet Accounts where they fail to show.
Very grateful for any suggestions as wasting hours on this.

Same problem here - this is really annoying since you cannot delete a previously added mail account anymore without resetting the complete mail app.

  • How to get rid of automatically created server accounts in iCal and Mail?

I have recently setup an OS X 10.6.2 Server for our small office. I got the domain name wrong in the initial install and fixed this by doing a complete clean reinstall of OS X 10.6 server (then upgrade to 10.6.2).
The problem is that one of the OS X 10.6.2 clients had been setup to talk to the server prior to the rebuild. Now on this client, I cannot work out how to get rid of or change the automatically created server accounts in iCal and Mail - everytime you login, these are recreated using the old domain name (and of course don't work).
In Mail if you remove the server account (from Accounts in Preferences), it just pops back again. I even removed every trace of the old domain name from the apple.com.mail.plist file but when I re-open Mail that darned server account (with the old domain name) just pops up again.
In iCal its slightly different in that you can remove the account and it stays away while you have iCal open. But as soon as you close and re-open it, that server account just pops up again!
I thought it might be something to do with Kerberos and found a Kerberos file on the client which had the old domain name throughout it - I changed all these references to the new domain name, but still the same behaviour in Mail and iCal.
This is doing my head in. Any ideas?

Restart the machine in Safe Mode and attempt to open each app. Also please explain exactly how you are attempting to open the apps. For example, "When I click the Safari icon on the Dock it bounces but does not open." To start in Safe Mode hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup tone unitl a progress bar appears.

  • In settings can't open iCloud or internet accounts. Get message that preference pane can be opened.

Since upgrading to Maverick it can't open iCloud or internet accounts in settings. Get a message the the preference pane won't open.

    Same here.
This was a big problem when switching from 10.7 to 10.8 and now it seems te be back, bigger than ever when going to 10.9.
All icloud related programs are effected: ical, icloud, adressbook, mail.
Systemprefereces goes easily to 100% cpu load and things like com.apple.icloud or com.apple.internetaccounts turn not responding.
At this moment it does not crash on my imac 2012. It still crashes om the imac 2009 and macbook 2009.
Someone mentioned to use keychain repair but that must be done in English mode!. It crashed in dutch mode.
I have not found a overall solution yet.
Will keep on looking or go back to good old 10.8.5.

  • Yosemite and Mail massive memory leak and excessive CPU usage

I've just installed Yosemite and upgraded to 10.10.2 via the AppStore. Now I have a problem with Mail sucking up all the CPU (>106% !) and memory (>8Gb and rising while doing nothing). Everything runs fine when I quit Mail. Very disturbing behaviour!
I've tried several suggestions found elsewhere on the board here, such as turning off and even removing all Mail plug-ins including SpamSieve, but without positive results. I've tried un-selecting 'Store draft msgs on server', as well as the option for junk and sent msgs. but again without any difference. Going Offline within Mail also makes no difference to its memory hogging or CPU usage.
I notice this is an issue that's been around since last year (wish I'd known that before upgrading to Yosemite today) and I am just completely flabbergasted that it still exists. Would've thought Apple'd have fixed it in the first but certainly in the second incremental OSX Yosemite release.
Is there anything else I could try that's proven to be effective in stopping Mail's massive memory leak?

Okay, I've run Disk Util and restarted. Seems to have made a little bit of a difference to the RAM gobbling in that it appears to be going at a slower rate, but it's still up at around the 45Gb after an hour. Here's the EtreCheck report in the hope that it helps.

  • Upgraded to OS X Yosemite and Mail notification sound no longer works

Hi, I upgraded to OS X Yosemite yesterday and when my Mail notifications come through I only get the banner no sound.  I have turned on the sound preference in my the Mail preferences and the Notification Centre preferences.  Is there any other way to get the sound working for these notifications.  All my other notifications that come through have the sound as well.

  • Account not verified and mail not active

Hi all and sorry for my bad english.
I have an iphone 5 with ios 7.1 and I always used with satisfaction, unfortunately I realized that my account has never been confirmed (I was sure of it)
the problem is that if I try to confirm, my old mail (@yahoo) is deleted for inactivity!! I can not receive the confirmation link.
I tried the second option (secret question) but don't work it!
the account is very old at least four years and probably activation I entered an incorrect date (taken by the euphoria of my new iphone)
i used never the phone as "Spartphone" for me the phone "phones" just, but now I want to solve this situation...
what chance do I have? I can safely use accounts added but can't use icloud

    Hello DinuDenis,
Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you need to verify your Apple ID email, but you can't receive the verification message. If you can't answer the secret questions, or receive the verification message because your email has been deactivated, this article recommends contacting Apple Support for help:
If you didn't receive your verification or reset email - Apple Support
If you still can't find the reset email or verification email, contact Apple Support.
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy

  • Installed Yosemite and mail search is now broken.

I have installed Yosemite today. Now when I search in mail for a particular sender or subject no mails return. Do I need to reindex my mailboxes? Do I need to do something else?  Please help.

Deleted Home/Library/Mail/V2/Envelope* and restarted mail. The indexes are rebuilding. This is a slow process for a large mailbox.

  • Yosemite and Mail sort problem

    Hi,
I typically have a few-hundred items in my Mail inbox. Prior to upgrading to Yosemite, when I had an email highlighted and clicked either "From" or "Subject" Mail would sort all of the email by that corresponding field and jump down to all of the messages that fit that criteria.
After the upgrade, I can still obviously sort, but for example, if I sort by name, the view doesn't "jump", meaning all the A's come to the top and I have to scroll down to find the highlighted message.
This is a bit annoying and slows me down quite a bit in terms of productivity, ie reading all the messages from a particular person or from a particular chain.
Does anyone know how to toggle this back?

Have you gotten any replies, help, hints on this?  I have this problem, too, and it is really getting annoying.  I have professional mail folders with hundreds of messages and I used to heavily rely on the "sort but stay on this message" feature.  I just assumed that that's how every mail program works and how every mail program should work.

  • Yosemite and mail - BIG problems with memory leak

Our small company has had significant problems since upgrading (?) to Yosemite, which by all we could glean from Apple would be a relatively bug free install. At random times, usually while composing an e-mail, the mail program will just spike in memory consumption, going from a couple hundred Mb of RAM consumption to over 70 Gb in just 3-5 minutes. This obviously causes the entire machine to come to a standstill and the mail process needs to be killed. A cascading problem is that when this happens any other programs will also become non-responsive, and they also will need to be killed, often at the loss of work. I've talked with the support people at Apple and disappointingly they seem to be unaware that this is an issue, or more likely they are aware of it (I mean, just do a search of "Yosemite mail memory" and see what you get) and want to downplay that the release has been a HUGE failure for MANY people. After about 20 of these application memory events since upgrading over this past weekend at our company I would like to see where Apple is on fixing this. BTW Apple, your user base is fairly sophisticated with computing, and having your online assistants continue to try and point the problem at the users - who are all having the EXACT SAME ISSUE - is alienating your user base. I've been using Apple for over 20 years and this is the worst release you've ever had. I think you're well on your way to becoming Microsoft in 1994, we need the old Apple company back.

I have the same problem and after a few days I am thinking seriously about abandoning Apple mail and .... going back to Outlook, I do not like MS, but may not have another option. Any suggestions.
I am amazed that Apple does not give any information about the problem. It does look like they are loosing their touch and appear to be following the Microsoft and Blackberry path.
Within a small company like mine, another few days of this and it will be impossible to keep it.
Hate to say it, but for the first timewith Apple I miss the old OS, it did not look as good but at least it worked..

  • What do I do with items in Internet Accounts?

I am not quite clear on the nature of the "Internet Accounts" menu in Mavericks system preferences.
Now that I've upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks, the Internet Accounts pane displays my iCloud account and two other entries: my (non-iCloud) email address with the word 'Mail' under it, and then the same email address with the word 'Notes' under it.
(I have the Notes apps on both my Mac and iPhone set to use my iCloud account. The Mavericks Notes app now shows both my iCloud account and an account named after my email address.)
    (1) Is this Mail account in Internet Accounts storing the information that the Mail app is using to access my email? What is the point of having a non-iCloud email account listed here? Is this just for syncing accounts across devices through Keychain or something?
Can I delete the Mail "account" in Internet Accounts without deleting my account and settings in the Mail app? Is there any other reason to have this entry there?
    (2) Can I delete the Notes entry? Why is this separate from the one with the same email address that says "Mail" under it? I guess this is leftover from when notes were part of the Mail app? Will deleting this "account" remove the other (unused) "account" that I see in the Notes app? This won't affect my iCloud notes, right? And what would the point be, now that there's a dedicated Notes app and no more syncing of notes between devices, of having a notes account associated with an email address?
    (3) Related question - why do I not see an entry for "Notes" when I look at the contents of my iCloud storage? I only see my iPhone backup and a "Mail" entry (the only things I have iCloud turned on for are Notes, iPhone backup, and Find My iPhone).

    1) all "Internet" accounts are set up here, now; however, most of the apps still have an interface to edit/create accounts. Don't delete them, t
hey are one in the same.
    2) Notes can exist in more places than your local Notes file. Any IMAP, iCloud, Exchange account can store Notes on it. You can stI'll store notes locally, but they are not sync'd to any devices. Only Notes that are stored on servers will be available on multiple devices. I've noticed the OS is not smart enough to know if an account actually supports Notes and allows you to check the box even if that account doesn't support them.
    3) I'm not at my Mac right now, but I think that is an artifact of also having a separate iCloud setup PrefPane. i believe what you see is normal, but somewhat inconsistent.

  • OSX 10.10.2 - "Internet Account" failing to show up in list

I go into the Internet Accounts and attempt to set up my IMAP email account I have with my ISP. Dialog boxes seem to be fine with my settings. I get to last dialog and hit OK but the account NEVER shows up in the list of accounts. No message, Nothing. I configure Apple mail to utilize my email account with my ISP. Works fine but it still is not showing up in the Internet Accounts window accessed via System Preferences. Every other email account I have (Gmail, etc.) shows up there. What in the world is going on and how do I fix? It USED to show up there!

I'm having the same problem. This is ridiculous. There are so many similar issues and we are getting a set of steps to read that, from experience, I can already smell will get me know where. How many times have I heard: ok...let's restart and see what happens. Really? Seriously? Tried them all with some optimism...just in case...and still nothing.
And then what happens. Goto the forum discussions. Blind leading the blind. Join the rest of the lost souls. I read so many of us with the same issue. No one has a clue or given direction.
I'm really disappointed. Project Management 101: pressure test your software in as many situations as possible before launch.
It's clear that this didn't happen. Just to see so many of the same issue speaks to how irresponsibly we are being treated.
