Internet & BB Services

New Blackberry owner here
Bought a Curve 3G from Amazon unlocked and then a Tesco SIM contract with a data but have since had confirmation from Tesco that this SIM contract does not support BB services so I need to upgrade by another £5 a month.  Not happy about their sales process.
Tesco suggest alternative of installing Opera to browse the internet and I tried this but cannot get it to load on the Curve (tried version 4.5 and 6)
Can anyone  help on how to load Opera and any thoughts as to using the BB without full services ?
Thanks

  • Internet Sharing service may cause iChat problems

Here are some good news: After months of frustration I finally found the cause for my iChat audio/video connection problems.
    The symptoms were as follows:
When my MacBook Pro was connected to the wireless router (Time Capsule) via AirPort, I wasn't able to establish an audio or video connection. When I tried for example to connect to one of Apple's test accounts appleu3test01, appleu3test02 or appleu3test03, I always ended up with the famous Errors 7 or 8.
However, if I connected my computer to the Time Capsule via Ethernet (LAN) cable directly, the iChat connection worked.
So, why didn't it work via AirPort?
It turned out that the reason for my problem was the activated Internet Sharing service (System Preferences > Sharing > Internet Sharing). As soon as I deactivated Internet Sharing, iChat audio/video connections via AirPort worked like a charm.
Interestingly, after switching Internet Sharing back on it still worked until I set my computer to sleep mode. After waking up again with Internet Sharing still activated it no longer worked.
I have now permanently deactivated Internet Sharing and everything is fine.
Hope this helps others to solve their iChat connection problem.

If iChat can't do all or part of what it is supposed to do with Internet Sharing on, WHY DOESN'T EITHER THE OS OR ICHAT SAY SO? I would be nice if the problem were fixed (although it looks like the problem has been open for years), but in the meantime, it would be nice for the uninitiated to be given a clue regarding the non-obvious.
"There was a communication error during your Chat. Did not receive a response from ..."
    There sure was!

  • Internet Information Services (IIS) becomes Disabled automatically on SCCM 2012 Distribution Points

    Hi !
Internet Information Services (IIS) is getting Disabled automatically on all of our SCCM 2012 Distribution Points.
Please help and share configuration steps.
    Thank you.

This is not anything ConfigMgr is doing. The cases I've seen similar to this have had a GPO responsible for this behavior from which the site systems needed to be excluded.

  • Windows 2008 R2, Internet Information Services: Changing security settings to change a folder's content by using PHP

    Hello,
I would like to ask if somebody's there who could help me:
I am a PHP developer from Stuttgart, Germany.
In my PHP web application I want to edit text files by using PHP code.
These files are created once (by me), so they exist before the PHP application is used by any web user.
My PHP code reads out some text files and other text files' contents are changed.
In my developer's environment (Windows XP, XAMPP) it works fine.
So I'm sure my code is OK.
But the productive system ist a windows server system (Windows 2008 R2 and Internet Information Services).
And here it doesn't work! The text files' contents aren't changed.
I know on windows based webserver systems I have to change the folders security settings
(what I mean: the folders where the text files are placed). I must give the IIS system user (in the past it's name was IUSR..., now it is named otherwise) additional rights, so that it can change folders content.
I did. But it doesn't work.
Some years ago when we used Windows Server 2003 that was the solution that worked.
Giving the IUSR right to change folders content. That was it.
But what is new in Windows Server 2008 that it doesn't work?
I think it must be very complicated. Could somebody help me?
    Thanks
    Tommy

    Hi,
This is IIS related issue, so you may post in the IIS forum.
And it seems like that you have already post there, please follow it up to get further assistance

  • Required services for EP in Internet Transaction Service

    Hi,
I've installed EP and I'm in the post-installation steps, configuring the Internet Transaction Service in transaction SCIF, but I couldn't find any documentation about required services. I would like to know which services need to be activated in order to run EP and NWDI.
    Thanks,
    Diego

    Hi Narasimha,
Thanks a lot for your answers. It is really helpful. But lastly let me ask a question in SE80 we can create or modify HTML templates for the internet services. For these transactions for which i'm not getting through SE80, how can i change HTML layouts.
Correct me if my understanding is wrong. Points will be given obviously.
    Thanks

    Hi Brain,
what's version of SQL Server that you have installed and what's your operationg system version info?
If you are running SQL Server 2008, which is not supported on the Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 domain controll (DC), even on Windows Server 2003 DC, there are limitations. Microsoft does not recommend to install SQL Server instances and DC on the same server,
for more information, see Install SQL Server on a Domain Controller (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx#DC_Support).
There are some threads in the forum talked about installing SQL Server and DC on the same server, here are some for your references:

  • Which devices can let me make internet hotspot service?

    Hi,
Someday I have tried connecting to a wireless connection which was showing in the wireless network connection  list of my laptop, and I have succeeded to log in without entering any a PW or Security key. However, when the connection was wirelessly
established, I was asked addition log on information may be required, although there an internet access was shown. However, when I tried opening a browsing page, this login page was shown me(screen shot below).
I know that a hotspot  is a place in a public building where there is a computer system with an  access point , which allows people
in the building with a  wireless  computer or  Bluetooth mobile phone  to connect to a service such as the Internet
But what I don't understand is where I can purchase a device which will allow me to make such this internet hotspot service? Can I do this with normal Router/modem,
or there are some specified devices used to do such tasks?
Also, are there place equipages required to make such a service or it is only another device to be connected to the LAN port of a normal Router/Modem in
order to broadcast the Router's wireless signals?
A man should convert his anger and sadness into strength to continue living in this life.

    Thank you so much indeed,
More details about what I want are as follows:
I have always been seeing many wireless network connections are shown when running my laptop. I don't know where these wireless networks are broadcasting from, and I don't if there are near to me or not. But when I try to connect to either, I find myself
be connected to either without asking entering a PW. However, after opening a browser web, I was asked to enter the PW and login. Thus, my question, if  I wish to setup such a service, how I can do? Are there some devices other modem  which can be
used to boost and distribute modem's wireless connection to other places. So the wireless of that modem can be accessed from a long distance.
On other words, are there other devices which can be connected to a Router/Modem via the LAN port? If yes, then these devices, I think, will be used to distribute wireless point into people who are far away from that Modem, thus, they can be connecting to
the the same wireless of Router, although they are too far way from the Router's wireless point.
As a result, I am looking for such devices which can be used to let other people who are very far away from my Modem/Router's wireless range  be able to connect to my Modem's wireless point.
Besides, Yes I have a wireless router in my home, and I agree that is a "hotspot". BUT, ANY PERSON WHO WANTS TO CONNECT TO MY WIRELESS ROUTER,
HE MUST BE ASKED TO ENTER A PW IF MY WIRELESS ROUTER IS SECURED BY A PW. HOWEVER, IF IT IS NOT SECURED, THEN HE WILL BE CONNECTED TO MY WIRELESS ROUTER WITHOUT ASKING ABOUT A PW, AND HE WILL BE ACCESSING
    TO THE INTERNET
BUT I WOULD BE SAYING, AS SAID BEFORE, WHEN I TIRED CONNECTING TO A WIRELESS ROUTER  FOR SOMEONE ELSE, I CONNECTED TO IT WITHOUT ASKING  ABOUT A PW SINCE
THAT WIRELESS ROUTER WASN'T SECURED BY A PW. BUT THEN, I WAS ASKED THAT ADDITIONAL LOGING MAY BE REQUIRED,  AND WHEN I TIRED TO OPEN A  WEBPAGE, A LOGING PAGE SHOWED ME (AS IN MY FIRST SCREEN SHOT). THUS, HOW CAN I SET SUCH SETTINGS?
HOW CAN I LET ANY PERSON CONNECT TO MY WIRELESS ROUTER WITHOUT ASKING ABOUT A PW. HOWEVER, HE WILL THEN BE ASKED TO ENTER A LOGIN NAME AND A PW, AND HE HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS TO THE INTERNET UNTIL GETTING A LOGIN NAME AND A PW. I THINK THERE IS SOME
DEVICE SHOULD BE CONNECTED TO MODEM WHICH WILL BE CONTROLLING ON WIRELESS ROUTER SUCH A WAY
     I wish you understand me.
A man should convert his anger and sadness into strength to continue living in this life.

  • Where can I get a public IP w/o an attached internet access service?

I currently have a 16Mbps service with my ISP without a global/public IP address. In order to get a global IP address from my ISP I need to switch to a 100Mbps service. The cost for the 100Mbps service including the global IP address would be 4 times as much as I am paying for the 16Mbps service.
For that reason I am trying to find out if it is possible to get a global/public IP address from somewhere else.
Regarding this issue I have two questions:
    1. Are there providers from whom I can either buy or rent a public IP address without a linked internet access service?
    2. If there is, can I use that public IP with my current ISP?

    Hey,
Do you need an IP address, or just a static hostname? Try a Dynamic DNS service, like dyndns.com, with a client like they have here: http://www.dyndns.com/support/clients/
This kind of setup will give you a an address like yourname.dyndns.com, which will always point to your public IP address.

  • Set up an internet fax service with an iBook G4 for $12

NOTE: There are plenty of online resources for configuring the elements discussed below. I don't want to write a book so I'll let you look these up for whatever providers and devices you ultimately use.
For what it is worth, here is my recent experience with my wife's trusty old iBookG4 which keeps on giving. For years now it has been a living room music hub, but once a year or so it gets used to send out a fax as all the newer machines lack the modem.
Recently I wanted to set up a permanent fax line, but expecting it to not get used much didn't want to invest much. I now have a permenant fax line with internet access for $12.
The $12 is just the annual cost of a DID number from a voip provider as I already had the necessary bits in use for other purposes, i.e.:
an iBookG4 (or other older model that can run OS X and has an internal fax modem)
a Linksys PAP2T ATA device (this is a fax compatible device which converts voip digital signals to analog for older phone systems. The PAP2T has two telephone line ports.)
    STEP 1
Get yourself a phone number from a solid voip provider (one you can configue online). Set the audio codec to be only whatever your ATA device expects for fax compatibility. For the PAP2T this is G.711. I used voip.ms for the provider, there are others. The business line option is $0.99/month plus whatever time your faxes take -- which I don't expect to be much at $.01/minute. (You may notice that the voip rates are insanely low, this is because services like AT&T and even MagicJack make their money by simplyfing the process which can look intimidating, but in truth almost all default settings will work.) Check online for your service providers required settings. Most will have device configuration samples.
The essence here is to set up a voip service through an ATA to your iBook. (You don't have to do a voip line, you can go ahead and pay the regular phone company dedicated line rate if you wish. This is the saving money part, not internet functionality.)
    STEP 2
Get Dropbox onto your iBook and your iPhone, iPad or whatever. Install a VNC app onto your iPhone so you can use the Apple Remote Desktop. The free Mocha VNC Lite app worked fine for me.
    STEP 3
Go to Print&Fax preferences and click on the + button to create a fax printer as you did in the old days, but this time go Receive Options, turn on Receive faxes on this computer and set Answer to 1 so it responds immediately and Save to: to a Dropbox folder of your choice. (Since my iBook is always plugged in I disabled computer sleep as well in Energy Saver as it also needs to be readily availble to serve music.)
    STEP 4
Go to Sharing preferences and enable Remore Management. For security I set access to a single dedicated user. Your needs may vary.
    STEP 5
Make sure your Firewall will pass through VNC or typically port 5900. You have to see what your system requires to enable VNC and Apple Remote Desktop. Also, go into Network preferences, Advanced, and set a DHCP with manual address to ensure your firewall pass through always hits the right machine.
    STEP 6 - Testing
    - Go online to your voip provider and ensure your DID has registered.
    - Create .txt or PDF on whatever machine and copy it to your Dropbox folder.
    - Go to the HP fax test page and follow their instructions to send them a fax and have an automatic fax back.
    - Head off to Starbucks or local wifi spot (you might want to use Hotspot sheild or other encryption). Call up VNC, go into Preview or whatever app and print to fax (IMPORTANT: There is a bug in OS X, since 10.4 I believe, requiring you to turn off the "Receive faxes on this computer" in order to send a fax. Turn it off, send, then go back and turn it on)
    - Leave your VNC app and wait a bit. Soon Dropbox should notify you a file has been placed in your folder.
There you go Receive and Send faxes on your iPhone wherever you can get wifi. Or, as the civilized world does, send a PDF and let the less advanced send you a fax if they have to.

Use the instructions in this article to create a new network location; each location has its own set of options and doesn't affect the other locations.

  • Verizon is Capping Internet Speed/Service for "Unlimited" Customers

Some recent news has been brought to my attention by Verizon Wireless' customer service department, and I think that given the severity of Verizon Wireless’ continued breach of contract to Internet customers, this matter should be brought to everyone else's attention as well.
I originally purchased a Verizon Wireless USB Internet Card in 2007. I was offered a plan that entitled me to an “Unlimited Internet Usage Allowance”. I kept the same wireless Internet device for two years and never acquired any issues or concerns. On January 20th, 2010, I went into a Verizon store and was offered a free upgrade to the new MiFi Mobile HotSpot. I was told that I could test the product for 30 days to make sure that it worked to my standards and my Internet needs. It worked perfectly. I used it for multiple computers in my home, as well as work and travel.
My problem with the Verizon MiFi began on October 21st, 2010 when my Internet suddenly became extremely slow and unable to access any web pages without minutes of waiting. I continued to call customer service and go into the Verizon stores throughout the month in hopes that someone could find a ‘glitch’ and solve my issue of what soon became No Internet access. I did all this with patience and good faith, as I have continued to pay $60 a month for “High speed 3G” service. Two weeks ago, I took the MiFi device into the store and requested a new device since it became entirely defective. My new device arrived in the mail and I have still spent the last week going through the ring-around circus of Tech support and the only logic they can come up with is, "Either the device is defective or my computer is too old."  This is not the case, as I recently purchased a new laptop.
What I discovered was that Verizon neglected to inform me for the past two months that I had gone over my "undisclosed usage threshold" (Even though I pay for Unlimited Allowance) and now my internet speed has been capped and I am unable to access the Internet. I spent 4 hours on the phone yesterday and weaved my way into a small department called "AIT" which is supposedly a new sub-contracted company that is suppose to help negotiate my "situation". They of course are closed, and my numerous voice mails will most likely never be returned.
At this point, I am still paying for something that does not work, and Verizon has taken it upon themselves to decide "how often" I can use the internet. This was not disclosed to me in my contract that I signed in Jan 2010, when I continued my Wireless plan for "unlimited usage allowance."
I want everyone to be aware of this, before they head out this holiday season and spend hundreds of dollars on a Verizon Wireless Internet Device, and eventually will have to deal with the same nonsense I'm currently going through right now!

I started with one of the few unlimited plans back in 2008- They kept telling me to "hang on to it- cause it won't be around for long!" So I did and when I upgraded my device- everything worked great for 7 months. I started using it more frequently as a hot spot for more than one computer, we're talking email, web browsing and paying bills- Not Xbox360 for 24 hours a day or fownloading 10 videos a day!? I don't even know how to do that!?!
And the first month we went over- we got capped! Now it runs at about a quarter of the speed. Which was never disclosed to me. And to think- they market this MiFi 2200 as a hotspot for up to 5 computers??? I can only imagine how quickly people are being capped.

  • How to print on Android from my app without using Internet Cloud Service

Hello, I am developing Android applcation where files are being sent to a LaserJet Pro Printer via
Intent  "org.androidprinting.intent.action.PRINT " and the ePrint Cloud service. And it works  fine for txt and pdf files.
My question is, is it possible, to print directly to the printer without the cloud service? This is needed in cases when internet connection is not available.
    Regards,
    Stoian

    Hello Stoian,
Yes, some HP printers have a print option called WiFi Direct. This printing path creates a WiFi connection between the printer and mobile device.  I believe this configuration supports up to 5 connections.

  • Do you get 3g internet speed/service on an 8330?

I bought an 8330 on ebay that was hardly used...I like the phone a lot but the internet browser seemed slow and not very advanced and I noticed it doesn't display 3g on the screen.  I was eligible to upgrade and got the Bold 9650 and it displays 3g but I really don't notice the internet being any faster on it...so does the 8330 get 3g even though it doesn't display?
The 9650 is ok but not impressive.  I do like the theaded text feature in the 5.0 OS and the trackpad is easier to use, but the phone is heavier and the USB port is in an odd place on the lower right side.  It is much more convienent on the upper left side on the 8330 for use when charging at the same time.  I know the 9650 has a faster processor and 512mb and a 2gb sd card, but still i'm thinking my 8330 was just as good for what I need...

The 8330 is 3G capable. On devices previous to the 9650, 8530 and 9550 the symbol for 3G is different. It's displayed as EV. So when you see 1XEV that means you're getting full 2G and 3G service.
The speed of web browsing between the two devices is expected to be similar. However, on the Bold 9650 you now have WiFi - so if you connect via WiFi you should notice a little jump in your speeds.

  • OAM11g R2 Internet Identity Services Integration with Facebook fails

    Hi,
I have configured OAM11g R2 to use Facebook as an Internet Identity Provider by following the steps mentioned in the link : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E27559_01/admin.1112/e27239/oicconfiginetidentitysrvcs.htm#BEIDCHAJ
Below are the quick steps I followed.
    Configuration :

    5. On OAM Side, Updated the Internet Identity Provider profile for FB by specifying "Consumer Key" and "Consumer Secret" with "App ID" and "App Secret" retrieved in #4
6.a) Created an Application Profile with the same name as the registered 10g webgate partner.
    b) Used OAMServiceProviderInterface as "Service Provider Interface"
    c) Selected Facebook as "Application User Attribute Vs Internet Identity Provider User Attributes Mapping"
    d) In Application Profile Properties add property "colocated.oam" with value "true"
    7. Protected an app using webgate with OOTB OICScheme.
    8. Enable "Mobile and Social Service" form System Configuration-> Available Service
    9. Configure WebLogic Server for Facebook Identity Provider Compatibility
         a) Open the WebLogic Console.
    http://host:port/console
    b) Choose Domain > Environment > Servers > Managed Server.
    c) Click the SSL tab, then click Advanced.
    d) Click Lock and Edit configuration.
    e) Change the Host Name Verifier to None.
    f) Restart the Managed Server.
    Issue :
    1. Access the resource which is protected by OICScheme
    2. Click on Facebook
    3. Provide facebook creds
An Error page is thrown on the browser with below exception on managed server

Any Help/Pointers to resolve this issues will be Highly Appreciated

    Hi Sagar,
To resolve this issue, do the following:
    1. Click on System Configuration Tab at the top.
    2. Click Mobile & Social on the Left Hand Side.
    3. Click Mobile & Social Settings.
    4. On the right hand side, you will see proxy server settings. You can remove the www-proxy.us.oracle.com from the proxy hostname and 80 from the port field.
Let me know if you still see issues.
    Regards
    Parag
