it does this only on firefox, and i cant figure out why, it looks fine on safari?
adam harrison

adam,
Sounds like font smoothing.
In System Preferences>Appearance what "Font smoothing style" is selected?
Also what is the size set for turning off font smoothing? You might try selecting a higher number.

• The Adressbar font looks very unsharp, i tried to edit the size and looked into the options but found nothing. it isnt sharp at all..

As i stated the adressbar looks very unsharp, and i tried to edit it or fix it in anyway, but nothing happens. in 3.6 and chrome it is sharp and i have no problems

Update the video display driver to the latest version.
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox 4.0:
Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: [ ] "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You can also try to set only the gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.enabled pref to false on the about:config page.

• Tab Problems ... Look Very Weird

Hi,
I believe the program CosmoPod may have caused this but i cannot find anyone else that has had this issue.
When clicking "Open Link in New Tab" or Command-Clicking a link a new tab is opened behind my tabs that are already open, like normal. BUT what happens is the new Tab (which i haven't viewed yet) is brighter and the display of it is distorted. It is harder to explain that to show you with this image (http://files.me.com/sgiglia/tlw99b).
Thanks,
Sal

HI Sal,
Perhaps you have other Safari unsupported third party add-ons causing the problem.
Try the troubleshooting help here. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Regarding Glims. Access the Glims pane in Safari/Preferences - Glims. Click: Tabs Misc. Deselect: Show Favicon on tab level.
Relaunch Safari. See if that makes a difference.
If not, try troubleshooting your Safari .plist file. Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Now launch Safari. If Safari functions as it should, them move the .plist file to the Trash.

• Very weird message on my mac

A banner appeared on the screen with the following message: 192.168.02 in use by 00:21:e9:95:42eb,DHCP server 192.168.0.1
It seems very strange, should I be worried?

HI,
Not to worry. Try this and see if that dialog disappears.
If you are set up to receive your IP address using DHCP, you can force your computer to renew your current IP address.
This might be helpful in an environment where many computers use the same DHCP server, or the network administrator has set up a short DHCP lease time.
Choose Apple > System Preferences, and then click Network.
Choose your connection service that uses DHCP from the list (such as Ethernet or AirPort).
Click Advanced, click TCP/IP, and then click Renew DHCP Lease.
DHCP - What is it?

• Fonts look bad in OSX jagged text

Hello
I thought apple gave us font smoothing in OSX! My fonts look terrible in QuarkXpress6.0. Is this what I have to look forward to? I miss my ATM.
I did the "font smoothing thing" in appearence-no change.
Also will all my older fonts from when I used OS 7 +8, will these still work in OSX? and by Quark XPress?
Please enlighten me!
all fonts look bad; Goudy old style, bellvue etc. (postscript type 1)
imac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.4) 21" screen

if I zoom out in Quark to view document at say 125% the 45 pt type really looks bad
Hmm. I'm unable to duplicate your problem. I've pasted some random text into Quark, sized it to 45 pt and set the zoom to 125%. No matter if I go up or down, the fonts look very smooth with both Goudy Old Style and News Gothic (I have the Adobe version, not MT, which is from MonoType). Well, if I look real close, I can see a little bit of jaggies around curves. But nothing very noticable.
Is your 21" monitor a CRT or LCD? LCD always produce the best image when used at their native resolution. A CRT's best display varies depending on whether it has a shadow mask or aperture grill tube. If your monitor has an independent control for sharpening, it may be too high.
I have some fonts installed that I don't know where they came from ex: News Gothic MT (Microsoft I think) Will these view and print okay in any program?
As long as it's a standard Mac suitcase style TrueType font, or a complete and proper Type 1 PostScript font, it should just as well as any other.
I keep all my fonts in classic folder and manage w/font book (thats another story) It seems that my classic apps, Illustrator, see most of the fonts all the time eventhough I turned many off in fontbook. Also illustrator doesn't see ALL the fonts.
That's a handful. When it comes to Classic, the rules are a little different. Fonts you manually place into the OS 9 Fonts folder, or are put there by the OS when activating them from Font Book with OS 9 as the choice to be activated for, fonts are then available to both Classic and OS X.
If you deactivate them in Font Book, the fonts will become unavailable to OS X apps. However, any Classic apps will continue to see them until you shut down all OS 9 applications and Classic. In other words, once you open fonts for Classic, they can't be closed to Classic without shutting the entire environment down. Confused yet?
As far as Illustrator not seeing all the fonts, that relates to this part of your question:
Please explain the limitations of classic apps and fonts.
Classic can use any fonts that were in existence for the Mac before OS X. All of your older Mac TrueType and Type 1 PostScript fonts will work in OS X and Classic. Fonts that will work as is in OS X that you couldn't use before on a Mac are PC TrueType fonts. If you have copied any of the OS X .dfonts into the OS 9 Fonts folder, those will not work. A .dfont is a variation of a TrueType font, with the data in the data fork rather than the resource fork as they are with the older Mac TrueType fonts. Neither OS 9 or any Classic apps can read these fonts. Those are likely the ones not showing up in Illustrator.
It sounds like you do a lot of work with fonts. While Apple has improved Font Book quite a bit in Tiger, it's still very much a consumer font manager for those who handle fonts only occasionally. You'd be much better off using a font manager such as Suitcase X1 or Font Agent Pro.

• Fonts look fater on Safari than in iWeb

When I create a page in iWeb the fonts look always fater once published on .Mac and wiewed with Safari. I always use regular web fonts (Helvetica, Verdana).
When surfing to the page using Internet Explorer on Windows, the fonts do not look too fat. It's just in safari.

i then suggest you make them as image by adding a small shadow to your text. this will make them be 1 to 1 on iWeb and online. see this image:

You have to swipe from right to left to delete mail.
In the settings, accessibility you can make fonts bolder, that helps a bit.
THe yellow paper...sorry, no tweak for that unless you find a different notes app to use.

• In v.4 fonts look blurry. Can you solve this shortcoming ?

Fonts look blurry in the overall menu in this new version of browser (v.4). I tried all the options that you specified with the ClearType an so on... It seems that the problem is not from Windows 7 because the old version looks ok. Can you solve this shortcoming ?
Until you resolve it I'll stay with the previous version (3.6.16) which it looks really good.

Yea, when I actually install my applications and launch them from GNOME Shell's menu or launcher the fonts look as blurry as they do when I launch them from Anjuta. Other applications look fine and with the workarounds I described above, my own applications display nicely too when launched from either GNOME Shell or Anjuta.

• E72 Blurry images in internet browser

Ive searched all over the place and cant get at least a relating topic, off google searches or here.
I just got the phone and what Ive noticed whenever I view still images in internet browser on my E72 they all appear blurry, like very bad quality, yet other images like the letters on Google Website are in high quality.
Why is that?
Thank you for your help.

Apparently you did not save the image itself but a thumbnail preview version.
Try to enter the exact URL address to the image in the phone using "open > new".

• New Browser Font - Font Size - Thumbs Down

I'm not sure why Palm messed with something that was working - but the new font in the browser is too small in portrait mode. Maybe ok for folks with great eyes but the previous font was much more readable in portrait mode.
If we're going to stick with that, at least give me the ability to choose a small, medium or large size as the standard font in the browser to make it a little bigger.
Is there somewhere we can email suggestions/complaints to? This is a big one for me.
I love my phone otherwise and appreciate the speed improvements etc, but this is just a bad change. The font looks nice and all but it's too small.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I've got to agree with you. My ATT Palm Pre Plus's font size is ridiculously too small.
And NO adjustment for "small, medium, or large" font? Inexcusable.
My Blackberry Bold had options to select an exact font size (i.e., 8, 10, 11, 12...whatever). Why can't Palm Pre Plus offer any user-selectable font sizes?
Failure to allow your customers the ability to adjust to a larger (and readable) font size is a strange indication. It's almost like someone at Palm "wanted" this phone to fail.
Does anyone know how to increase font size on the ATT Palm Pre Plus?
Thanks!

• Super-slow internet browsing on brand-new iMac

I posted this somewhere else and got told to post it here - so here goes:
I just bought my iMac on Valentine's Day. I'm brand new to the world of Mac, and very excited!
However - I'm a little upset because it is taking FOREVER for websites to load on Safari - sometimes up to a full minute for a page to load entirely. Sometimes, it simply times out! My internet access is through broadband service provided by my cable company; all computers in the house (including my PC laptop) are wirelessly connected. No problems with any of them BUT the iMac. Also, all other applications on the iMac run very fast indeed.
I really don't think that at $1,500, internet browsing should be this slow on an iMac right out of the box!!! Is there anything I can do? Is this a known problem with a known fix? Or should I just take it back and exchange it? (and migrate all my old files AGAIN!)
Thanks for any help/advice you can give.

Try the command under the Safari menu in Safari to +Reset Safari+. I would select all the reset options.
If that does not help, try downloading another browser as a test to see if this is a general problem or something specific to Safari.

• TV (video) output from new nano looks very good!

Just a comment for those who may be wondering how the video quality on the new iPod nano looks when output to a TV. I have one of the old iPod AV docks with the s-video port and the new nano seems to work fine with that combination (using a standard s-video cable between the dock and the TV). Thus far I'm really impressed with the video quality, I can't see a single problem, the color is good, the quality and sharpness is as good as I've seen from any iTunes Store content, and as far as I can tell the frame rate is fine (no stuttering, skipped frames, or problems with audio sync). I'm amazed that such high quality video can come from such a small device. If it continues to look this good (after viewing more content and after more testing) then I think Apple may have "hit one out of the park." This thing could turn out to be the most popular iPod yet (if you have any interested in video and still want a small device).

I just found out that the video out (TV) on the new nano supports video playlists so you can create playlists for back-to-back display on the TV. Not even the AppleTV will do that (even though the latter has been a highly requested feature for the AppleTV since day one). In fact, if you can do without the on-TV menus you may find that the nano is a better video output device than is the AppleTV (that is, the menus system on the nano doesn't appear on the TV output).
Also, I just competed a few hours of video playback to my big-screen TV from the nano and I'm still impressed. No video problems at all, looks very good considering the quality limitation from the content that is currently on the iTunes Store (limited to standard definition, no HD movies, HD TV, or HD music videos as yet).
