Internet/browser/automatic updates help please

Starting yesterday, most websites won't load in Safari, Chrome, or Firefox. Facebook works, youtube works, I can do a search on google and see results. When I click any external link it doesn't work, and typing most urls doesn't work either. However, I found that by using Miro, I can type the url or copy/paste a link and it works fine! (E-mail is also unaffected)
I only noticed the problem yesterday when starting up my computer and it installed automatic updates for: safari, iTunes, keynote, and killerkeys. I haven't been able to uninstall the updates to see if that would fix it,
I don't know enough about miro or the browsers to have a clue as to why something would work there and not other places.. any clues?
I'm on a work computer now, but any help is greatly appreciated!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    Well, first things first, disable dhcpcd.
    # systemctl disable dhcpcd
    Then, in your system, try running it manually, and see what happens.

  • Can't connect to internet after automatic update

    Firefox had an automatic update this morning and ever since then I always get the page "The connection was reset". Msn messenger still works so the internet connection isn't the problem. This is on my laptop(I'm currently on my PC) and it's on Windows XP, it's firewall is ESET Smart Security. I checked Error Console and there's one that appears, "Livemark Service: feed processor received an invalid channel for http://en-us.fxfeeds.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/headlines.xml"

  • Cannot open itunes now I've downloaded the update - help please

    I launched my itunes and had a message asking did I want to install the updated version. When it finished installing it said it needed to shutdown and restart - which I did. When I tried to reopen itunes from the shortcut it said it cannot open it coz some files are missing. Can anyone help please. I have contacted apple and although i've had my phone for over 90 days they have emailed me steps on how to uninstalled and reinstall safely. However, once I got the email, the first thing it tells me to do is to launch itunes which I can't do. can anyone help please? Many thanks.

    First of all, see if you can uninstall your current version of HP Support Assistant by using the Microsoft 'Fixit' on the following link - this is particularly useful in correcting issues that may prevent reinstallation on machines running a 64bit OS.

    If this completes, restart the PC.

  • 3GS update help please.

    Hi,i updated 3gs through itunes and i thought it worked,however it will not activate neither thru itunes or wifi.i have restored with no success.im now stuck with a phone that i cant go forward or backwards with.any help please before i go mad?
    The phone does say connected to itunes sometimes however itunes just says "cannot activate at the moment please try again later"

    Sounds to me like the phone was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it. If that's the case, the update has bricked it. It will not be able to activate.
    If it was jailbroken or hacked, we can not help you here.

    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on           
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - Try another cable              
    - Try on another computer                                                       
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Z10 won't complete setup after device software update, help please.

    Help please, cannot complete phone setup ater performing software update using Blackberry Link.
    Sequence of events;-
    Phone recognised by Blackberry Link.
    Reload device software selected - updated version 10.0.10.90 available.
    Get update - software appears to load correctly then Z10 unplugged.
    Phone reboots, Welcome to Blackberry, English(UK) ticked, swupe left.
    No SIM card available, swipe to WI-Fi.
    Password entered for home network and confirmation screen shows connected.
    Agreement Screen - Country changed to United Kingdom(English),
    at bottom of screen under I agree to the Blackberry SLA....
    the 'I Agree' and 'I Do Not Agree'  buttons can not be selected and
    after a short delay Unable to connect screen appears.
    Pressing 'Settings' goes back to Wi-Fi Networks page with
    confirmation that connection is good and round we go again.
    Having performed software update several times as above and also from
    www.BlackBerry.com/updates by following forum posting at

    Try finding a different open free Wifi hotspot to perform the setup.
    It sounds like the device is never connecting to your WiFi to complete the setup.

    With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
    what version of iPhoto are you using?  A new iMac will have Yosemite. Confirm.
    what system version are you running? Download iPhoto 6 from the App store.  Did you?
    what do you mean by "picture keeper"?
    have you looked in the Applications folder for an iPhoto application?
    is your iPhoto Library in your Pictures folder ?

    I reset modem and router.  Still have the same issue.  I have a laptop connected to the network as well as a PS3.  Both are working great.  Did a Speedtest app test on iphone.  With 3g it was working good.  When i switched to wifi, it was trying to get the ping test accomplished, and could not.  it was stuck in the ping test at 0% for a long time and never progress.

    could be configuration or date/time settings.  double check your date, time and time zone (if this is wrong you will not be able to access the Apple update server). also go through the 'blocked by configuration' section of Apple support article TS3297: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297?viewlocale=en_US

  • Airport not working after Apple sw updates - HELP PLEASE!!!

    I have a newish MAC Intel. The Airport was working fine for the last 9 months or so until I puled down Apples usual sw updates. I did them all incl the firmware update. Now the Airport wont hook up. I have wireless to NETGEAR router downstairs. I see network broadcasting as its sen in networks box, yet when I select it and then plug in a WEP and connect it says no can do and jumps back to no network selected. Ive tried this dzens and dozens of times. Lke I said was fine for last 9 months until updates last week...grrrhh.can anyon help me please?

    Have the same one and came to the conclusion that Airport doesn't wait for the DHCP from the Netgear to get a numer like 192.168.xxx.xxx but has already one which is not in the pool provided by the Netgear.
    Since I'm depending on this I help myself by turning Airport off (in the Menu) wait 20 seconds and then turn it on again.
    Helps every time.
    Another guy round here has helped himself by turning off the Automatic (in the Airport preferences) and has entered all numbers manually.

       i have been trying all night to update my blackberry i have used blackberry destop manager from blackberrys website.

    While updating to the latest software upgrade, I
    believe I unplugged the Nano too soon. As a result,
    I have not been able to access the Nano via the
    updater to reset the iPod, get it into disk mode, or
    get iTunes to recognize it. The iPod boots and will
    ask for a language each time. I then get the songs
    menu and all songs are gone. I'm guessing corrupted
    the disk because updater won't initialize The
    computer recognizes the iPod as drive H, so I don't

    I had more or less the same problem when updating to 1.1.1 my daughter's 2GB nano (the same operation with my 4GB was completely OK). I was in despair, when eventually found the solution in this forum (by the way, I think it's a bug, but your own fault...):
    1) connect the nano to the computer, then close iTunes or any other program trying to access it.
    2) through Explorer, click on the "external unformatted disk" (or something like that) which corresponds to the nano (drive H, you said);
    3) right click (and be patient, it may take a bit), then select "Format" (don't select 'low level formatting') and run it. It will take a bit, but in my case at the end of the formatting iTunes automatically started and recognized the iPod, and everything was OK.
    Of course, the music previously stored was lost.
