Internet Browser or Hotspot Browser as Default?

I have an 8530 that has both Internet Browser and Hotspot Browser available for use.  Which one should I set as the default?
I have wi-fi available at home and I sometime use wi-fi elsewhere.  Most often, however, I am not at a wi-fi available location.
If I set the default at Internet Browser will it automatically use the wi-fi when wi-fi service is available, or do I need to switch to the Hotspot Browser each time I want to access the internet via the wi-fi?
     Thanks. Phil

Hi Phil.
From what you've said, i guess its personal taste really. you may need to check with your carrier/provider if there would be data charges for browsing using the internet browser. Wi Fi/hotspot is to connect to the internet via a different means. Still does the same thing. I personally use internet browser. The wi fi connection isnt that good where im at and theres no real hotspot areas near me.
Setting your default browser to internet browser should mean you connect that way. You could always disable your wi fi connection so it wouldnt interfere. wi fi / hotspot was mainly done for people with laptops [i believe] so they could still connect to the internet whilst out and about. The hotspots just mean theres a good signal in that area. wi fi is just the connection used. That texhnology has now moved into mobile phones.
I think you can set your phone to tell you when youe near a wi fi/hotspot area, but not too sure. Or it tells you when the connection requires a login or not. Not too sure actually coz i dont use wi fi.
Forgive me if anything isnt 100% correct, but thats my personal thoughts on this matter and as long as your provider doest charge you for using internet browser then theres no reason why you shouldnt just use that.

Below is how it is being done.  This worked perfectly for years. MS Office 2007 does complain that the file extension does not match the data format (it's a tab delimited text file but I'm pretending it's an Excel file so they'll be prompted to view it as a spreadsheet in Excel) but you just click open and it works fine.  This issue with IE is new.  Let me know if you have any more ideas.

  • Default "WiFi" not "Hotspot" browser

I recently upgraded to 4.5 on a 8320 Curve.  In doing so, the default "wifi" browser I had was replaced by "hotspot" browser.  It is the only one that shows up as the default browser.  In reviewing other posts regarding WiFi they state I need the default "WiFi" browser to surf without a data plan or my home network.  So does anyone know how to re-add the "WiFi" default browser

and If the problem persists and if you can find a sim( has bis data) ( for a few minute) send your device service book and you can use again without sım because you will get wifi service book.

I opened the Browser, BB Menu -> Option -> Browser Configuration.I found out that I do not have Internet Browser. All i have is..
    truemove wap
    true GPRS wap
    Hotspot Browser
**Ignore the true/truemove, as it's my carrier.
I called my carrier hotline and asked for help. The technician resend the Service Book for me, and I did an Battery Pull. I even register the Host Routing Table. Nothing helps. The technician told me that if i do not have the internet browser, i couldn't open some of the web sites. eg, http://m.facebook.com

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Can you clarify something please? On that Browser Configuration screen, in which field are you referring to that those selections exist? The top "Browser" selection or the "Browser Identification" section down lower in the screen?
    Thanks.

  • Every time I reboot, Safari has reverted to my default browser, despite setting Firefox as default (both with Firefox and Safari) in my previous session. What else can I try?

OCCASIONALLY I can hear my laptop fan whirring excessively when using the web. If it happened too much, I've quit the browser and the laptop soon cools off. This started when using Safari, and was why I thought I'd try Firefox for a while. Apart from the default browser issue, I've found Firefox easier to use and more reliable. I can't say for sure that this 'overheat' issue has never happened with Firefox since I installed it.

  • Hotspot Browser Icon Present But Does Not Launch When Clicked; Menu Button Doesn't Work Either When Hotspot Icon Selected

Am very new to Blackberry.  The Curve 8900 is my wife's and she asked me to get it working on a new provider plus wifi.
As the long subject says, the Hotspot Browser icon shows on the main menu but when I click on it nothing happens.  If I select the Hotspot Browser icon and then press the Menu key, I get kicked into the main menu. Have searched far and wide for the answer to this problem, but no luck. Most posts complaining about the Hotspot Browser are about getting a connection to the Internet.  I am not even that far -- the browser simply doesn't load.  Any help would be much appreciated.
I have a BB email plan and wifi.  The wifi works fine for email with the mobile network turned off, so I know that my Wifi settings are fine.

I am running OS5.0.  But I already tried turning off browser push, and that's the setting on the phone now.  No luck yet.

I would guess the plugin is enabled since when I use Foxfire as my browser, all pdfs download and are readable. (just doesn’t happen when I use IE as my browser, I get a blank screen with a small “x” in the upper left corner)
I will try your proposed solution.

  • Bridge Browser and WiFi Browser Issues???

    Hey everyone,
I've had my Playbook since day one and I have been having issues that I can't seem to get resolved involving the Brdige Browser and WiFi browser.
On the Bridge Browser I can't browse to any webpages. I simply get a non-descript "Not Authorized HTTP://whatevertheurlwas.com" error message. Ive tried dozens of pages, reset the bridge, to no avail.
The other issue is with the WiFi browser. When I try to login to an Exchange 2010 OWA webmail site, I can't click certain check boxes (they arent grayed out, the clcik just wont function). Also - when I try and navigate to a SharePoint 2010 site I get an "Error - A network error has occured" message. It is accessible fine via an iPad, laptop, and desktop computer but not from the Playbook browser.
    Any ideas??

I spent about 3 hours with Support on this last night.
Explanation makes sense...could not verify it yet.
Bridge Browser by default uses "Blackberry Browser" to surf the net. If this option is disabled by BES Admin (assumption here is that you are on BES), you will not be able to surf the net. If you have BIS services also, your Blackberry  handset (assumption here is that you are on OS v6) tries to open a site through "Blackberry Browser" and then defaults through "Internet Browser"...which is why you are probably surf the net through your handset without any issues.
To verify this, install OS v5 and that gives you the option of picking the browser for your handset. If you get the same message after selecting "BLackberry Browser" on your phone...the above explanation can be confirmed. I am going to try it on my older Blackberry handset with OS v5 over the weekend.
Solution if the above explanation is verified:
Running the web browser in work mode
If the Allow Browser IT policy rule is set to Yes and you configure the BlackBerry® MDS Connection Service to connect a BlackBerry smartphone to the Internet and intranet, a BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet that is connected to the smartphone can run the web browser in work mode.
When the web browser runs in work mode, it does not use the Wi-Fi® connection that it uses when it runs in personal mode. Instead, the web browser can connect to the Internet or your organization's intranet using the smartphone's connection to the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service. The tablet encrypts any cached data that is stored on the tablet using the BlackBerry® Bridge™ work key.
A BlackBerry PlayBook tablet user can access the web browser in work mode by clicking the browser icon in the BlackBerry Bridge panel on the tablet, or by clicking on a link in a work application. When a user clicks a link in any work application, such as a link in work email messages, work calendar entries, the contact list, tasks, memos, or BlackBerry® Messenger messages, the web browser runs in work mode if any of the following conditions exist:•
    No Wi-Fi connection is available•
Web address does not contain periods•
MDS Browser Domains IT policy rule includes the domain of the web address•
Web address consists of a private IP address as specified in RFC 1918•
Value of the Wi-Fi Internet Access Path IT policy rule is set to "Access through BlackBerry MDS Connection Service"
If these conditions do not exist, the web browser runs in personal mode and connects to the Internet using a Wi-Fi connection.
The web browser cannot run in work mode if it cannot access the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service.
