Internet Connect lost connection to ethernet

After installing 10.4.4, Internet Connect can't connect because it seems to have lost contact with my PCI ethernet card. It only shows Built-In ethernet which died awhile back. System Profiler knows the card is there is there. Both Network and Alltel say it is connected. Apparently Internet Connect is the culprit. Can I fix or get around it? HELP!
Everything else seems to work by the way.

  • Problem connecting my macbook pro to a wired internet connection via ethernet cable adapter

I am having a problem connecting my macbook to a wired internet connection in an area in my workplace where there is no wifi.  The macbook works fine on the same internet connection via wifi in other parts but when I add it as a wired connection it doesn't show any connection.  I have turned off wifi to make sure that it is not trying to pick up a poor connection but I still can't get this to work.  I think I am trying to set up the connection properly but can't be completely sure.  Any help would be appreciated.

Open System Preferences>Network and make sure Ethernet is selected. If it is, open Advanced Settings (at the bottom of the Network window). Click on the TCP/IP tab. Configure IPv4 should be set to "Using  DHCP".
Configure IPv6 should be set to "Automatically". When those are set click the "Renew DHCP Lease" button

  • I have no Internet connection(via ethernet or wifi) since I upgrade it to Yosemite.what is wrong?should I go back to Mavericks?

    Hello!
I have a Mac mini and I just installed the Yosemite upgrade system and since then I can't connect to the internet anymore. I was using my computer also as a router for my home, abd after the upgrade my computer can't connect to the internet. It appears as it is connected to ethernet but no page can be load, and it appears the message that: this page cannot be displayed as the computer is offline. Why?? what means is offline?? And I also put the internet cable to my laptop and I share the internet, to see if it sees the wifi and the mac mini connected to the wifi but still can't connect to the internet, showing the same message as above.
So far I didn't see other problems with the new upgrads, I like the new look, but I believe is moving a bit slower and it takes too much to launch after I restart it.
My question is should I go back to Mavericks or anyone can help me with my problem?? I did reinstall 2 times the system
already and I check in disk utility couple of times...same problem, no Internet...or better say, "my computer is offline", as it says in safari window.
I really need help pleeeeeeease as I work from home and all my work is on that Mac Mini!!! And I need to downgrade to Mavericks can u please tell me how
    to?!!
    Thank you very much!

    Hi,
You need to sign in when using Photoshop Elements 12 as it is the method of activation. If you sign out it deactivates that installation.
If you are having problems, see if the following helps.
Sign in, activation, or connection errors | CS5.5 and later

  • Can AirPort express be used for AirPlay with my home stereo, and to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via ethernet, simultaneously?

I am considering buying an airport but I am not sure if it will work how I would like it to.  I need it for two things.  The first would be to use for AirPlay with my home stereo.  The second would be to use as a way to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via the ethernet port.  I would like to do these things simultaneously, rather than constantly changing the configuration and being limited to a single function each time I do so.
    Thanks!

The 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can be configured as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, it would join an existing wireless network and its Ethernet port would be enabled for a wired client, like your Xbox 360. This configuration would also support AirPlay simultaneously.

  • Having trouble sharing internet connection to ethernet

    Hello,
I am trying to have my internet (wlan0) shared across my ethernet connection.
Is there a package on AUR that can do this?
    Thanks in advance.

Check out this page. Although it explains how to share a internet conection via ethernet, I'm sure you'll be able to do that using wifi as well.

  • Share my Mini's Internet connection over Ethernet?

    Hi there,
My Mini is currently connected over wi-fi to my broadband connection. Next to my Mini is my TV. My TV is soon to be able to receive the BBC's iPlayer as I use Freesat (http://freesat.co.uk). The TV has an Ethernet socket with which I will need to connect to the Internet.
Can I use my Mini's Ethernet and ultimate wireless connection to provide my TV with an Internet connection?
I've just been investigating things in the Sharing section of Sys Prefs and I get a warning come up when I select Share from Ethernet and Share To Ethernet about my ISP cutting me off... I' with BT in the here in the UK - so not a cable provider, just an old fashioned copper wired ADSL line. Is the warning to be heeded or ignored?
    Many thanks

    Gotcha - many thanks.
Incidentally, am I able to set up my Xbox in the same way (assuming that I wouldn't have the TV connected at the same time as the Xbox).
    Thanks,
    Tom

  • Sharing Airport Internet connection Over Ethernet

    Hi
I've read various things about this on the forums here, but none of them seem to make a considerable amount of sense seeing as the person just magically works out the problem. So I'll attempt to describe my problem.
I'm trying to share my Intel iMac's Airport connection to another mac running 10.4.6 over ethernet. I'm using crossover cable, and so far I've got the two computers to recognise each other in Network tab of the Finder, so I can mount the other's HD on my desktop if i wanted. BUT, I am having no luck with sharing my internet connection, I have the 'Share my Airport connection over Ethernet' settings ticked in System Preferences on the iMac with airport, but the "light" on the network overview page is orange on both computers, and the one connected with ethernet does not connect to the internet.
Any idea what I may be doing wrong?
    Thanks a lot
    Mo

You are sharing one connection from the main unit to a secondary unit. The secondary unit only has access through the main unit, so the system doesn't see a personal web connection, just a web connection. In order to share that connection, it must be seen as a "personal" or directly connected form of network. This is so that somebody can't just steal your connection and then filter it to a billion computers and hack you and really mess up your system. If you want to share that connection, I suggest you invest in a wireless router. Then you can share all peripherals from the main unit and other units in any configuration you wish, and then use your secondary(wireless) unit to share directly to the third unit(crossover cable) without having to set a bunch of manual controls and troubleshoot. Printers, some scanners, and sometimes even dvd burners can be shared across a router. And because the system reads two connections(comp-to-comp and comp-to-web) through the router, you can actually fully network all peripherals to work across each unit, so long as they all run the same versions of OS and software. Just remember, you get what you pay for with routers. $100-$200 should get you something decent and a USB speed-booster card wouldn't hurt if you can get it as part of the whole router package. I've used the same type of configuration and it has saved me days, even weeks of trying to move data onto cds and dvds to move between computers for using with different programs and tasks.
    good luck

  • Can't establish internet connection with Ethernet/Thunderbolt adapter.

    Hello,
Ever since I update to OS X Mavericks, I can not connect to the internet on my iMac Pro Retina 15-inch.  I had to purchase the Ethernet to Thunderbolt adapter because the iMac pro Retina does not come with an Ethernet connection port.  When I first purchased the Laptop, I connected to the internet automatically.  However, now I keeps getting a message that the cable is not plugged in.  I did hook the Ethernet cable to a Windows laptop and it connected right a way.  So I'm positive it's the cable from router to computer is working.  Also, the Thunderbolt port is active because I plugged a external HD into it and it mounted.  The ability not to hook up to the internet is baffling.  I have a Motorola cable modem, connected to Linksys router.  I have two computers and one printer plugged into the router.  That leaves me one Ethernet Port.  When I hook up my iMac Pro Laptop using the Ethernet to Thunderbolt adapter, nothing happens.  I'm not connecting to internet.
Any ideas, will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone for your help and comments!
However, I still had to call tech support to solve the issue so I wanted to get back to everyone with the solution.
First, it had nothing to do with Mavericks!  Basically, it was a case of IP addresses being assigned by my modem and router.  We first re-booted the modem and router and got the macbook pro to finally recognized an etherport connection.  However, it wouldn't assign the IP address to the etherport, that's because I didn't click the apply button.  Once I did that, the macbook pro was working on ethernet, but I lost WI-FI on the macbook.  Ugh!  Also, my iMac desktop lost ethernet port and stop working.  So, I used the network assist me on the desktop and got to the point where it wanted me to reset everything again.  So, I unplugged the modem and router, waited 45 secs, then powered up the modem and then powered up the router.  Everything is work Great.  The desktop, macbook pro (both ethernet and wi-fi), my wife's PC Laptop and our network printer!  Therefore, the solution in my case was to restart modem and router twice to get all the computers assigned the correct IP address.  I hope this helps someone out there!
Thanks again everyone for your comments ... very much appreciated!

  • WRT160Nv3 won't disperse my internet connection via ethernet cable

I am trying to get it to where I can configure my router by having a hardwire connection to it but I can't even get it to disperse I wireless/wired signal whatsoever.
I have done so many 30/30/30 reboots but I still can't get it to work even when I have it plugged in with power, ethernet from wall to router, ethernet from router to computer. It shows the X on my LAN Connection with W7 as my OS.
I am pretty frustrated as I had it working earlier when I was screwing around putting DD-WRT firmware on it to prevent it from dropping my connections but really I don't know what to do. I am stuck. I'd appreciate any help.

I think it was just being moody, it's now working and now I could finally customize the name of the network, the WPA key as well as the router settings on top of having wireless internet working again.
EDIT: BUT when I hook up the ethernet cable from my router to my computer it still doesn't pick it up. But at least Wireless is now working for my 360 and my laptop.

  • Can't get internet connection via ethernet

I have had 3 computers, 1 pc and 2 Macs, networked through ethernet for two years. Never had problems until yesterday. We just can't get on the internet on the Macs. Both macs say "Your computer isn't connected." Talked to D-Link router, everything was fine. Macs recognize IP and all numbers, so they told us to call Apple. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Possibly:
    reboot the macs.
    check the cables.
    reboot the router.
    reboot the dsl/cable/whatever modem.
Are you getting a valid Ip ddress from the D-Link (192.168.xx.xx, or is it a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx?)
In Network utilities, can you ping an outside IP by name? Ping an outside site by IP by number? Ping the router IP? Ping the PC?
    Reset Safari...

  • Slow internet connection over ethernet, fast over wireless?!

Using an Airport Extreme (802.11n) I am connected to the internet through an X-Modem. My Macbook connects to the internet wirelessly and can download a large web page in 13 seconds, the same page takes 85 seconds when downloaded by my G4 iMac using an ethernet connection directly to the Airport (even if the MacBook is switched off).
I have eliminated the iMac as the culprit by plugging the ethernet cable directly into the modem as a test and achieving a decent connection speed.
Any bright ideas about how to solve this little connundrum?

    Glyn
Checked my Network settings as suggested. The DHCP was fine but somehow I had a specified server in the 'DNS servers' box. Cleared this and the iMac is now connecting perfectly.
Thanks to you and Duane for your hepl.

  • Share Apple TV Internet connection over ethernet?

I want to share my internet that I'm getting wireless through my Apple TV with my PS3 (which isn't wifi capable). Problem is 1) I don't know where I could turn sharing on and 2) when I plug an ethernet cable in, the wifi disables. Is there a solution that doesn't involve extensive hacking? Much Thanks!
    Bob

Short of installing a third wireless router as a relay, I was hoping for a more efficient solution. Thanks!
You don't necessarily need another router. If you can run an ethernet cable from your router to a point closer to the basement, a simple wireless access point connected to the router by cable would be enough to boost the wi-fi range.

  • Using time capsule to share internet connection with a pc via ethernet

    Hi,
I've recently acquired a time capsule and was wondering if i could use it to share a wireless internet connection via ethernet to my non-wireless (windows 7) pc?
My current situation is that i have a wireless modem/router that shares my internet connection wirelessly with my mac mini.
I have a pc without a wireless card that i want to connect to the wireless network so i was wondering if it was possible to attach the pc and the time capsule with an ethernet cable, then connect the time capsule to the wireless network and share the internet connection with the pc.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and if so how?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the discussion area!
IF...your wireless network is now being created by another Apple "n" router like an AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express or Time Capsule, it would be possible to do what you want to do.
But the Time Capsule would not be compatible for what you want if your wireless is created by another manufacturer's router. The Time Capsule could "join" this wireless network so that backups would occur over wireless. However, when the Time Capsule is configured this way, the ethernet ports on the device are not active, so this would not help with the ethernet connection that your computer needs.
A new AirPort Express 802.11n would do what you want. It has the capability of joining virtually any wireless network and the ethernet port can be enabled using the ProxySTA feature, so it would work for your purpose.

  • Why does my macbook intermittently lose internet connection when I have internet service?

    Hello,
I have checked around on Apple forums as well as the wider internet. My situation is just a bit different than the other solutions I read about.
I have a MacBook, 10.6.8. I have an internet antenna that plugs into the modem, that I plug into my computer. What I have not found in the forums are solutions to an internet connection loss that happens with a hardwired internet connection, ie ethernet wire, not wireless.
I contacted my isp and I was told there is a very strong connection. The internet will cut out when I open another window or just at random times, maybe for 20 seconds. This is very irritating.
Skype and itunes run just fine even when the internet cuts out. I feel there is a problem with one or my of settings. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Most often BitTorrent, iCloud or some other cloud-data application is involved in cases of mysterious bandwidth use by a Mac. If you use iCloud, uncheck at least Photo Stream and Documents & Data in its preference pane and see whether there's any change. If you use third-party network backup software, disable that. If you use a torrent client, remove it.
Otherwise, there's no easy way to monitor network usage per process using built-in tools. If you're an advanced user and you want to try, see the manual page for the nettop(1) shell command. It may or may not provide the information you're looking for.
The third-party products Rubbernet and Little Snitch are supposed to record network usage by processes. I can't vouch for them. Both were available as free trials, the last time I checked. I suggest you uninstall either one when the question has been answered.

  • ITunes 8.1 works great but killed wireless internet connection

I installed version 8.1 on both my laptop( PowerBook g4/ OS 10.4.11) and desktop (imac intel / OS 10.5) and after restarting the computer, the wireless internet connection stopped working on both.
I would open Safari and it would be a blank page and and the circle would keep spinning.
So I tried my laptop at a different wireless hotspot and had the same result.
I then tried repairing permissions and I got a list of problems with iTunes/Network Utilities, they repaired and now when I open Safari I get the message that it can not connect to the internet.
I do get an internet connection using ethernet on both.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Did you by any chance also update the firmware on your Apple Airport Extreme (if that's what you have)?
I thought 8.1 killed my connection to my Apple TV, but it was the faulty firmware (see reports elsewhere in these forums).
Now that I have rolled back from 7.4.1 on my Airport I plan to try iTunes again (with white knuckles).

  • I Lose Internet connection each time my Mac Sleeps

I have an iMac 21" late 2009 model.
Since I installed Lion, every time my Mac "nods" after leaving it a bit, after waking up it will take about a minute for the internet connection (dsl ethernet) to come back. It's frustrating, I turn on my mac to browse the web, I open Safari but then I have to sit there waiting for the internet connection to come back.
Something is wrong and it's annoying..

If you had mountain lion, you could've used a feature called power nap. It keeps networking on even when the mac is asleep.
On other OS, I guess its bound to disconnect all networks when it goes to sleep You can try an app called Caffeine that doesn't let it go to sleep.
