Internet Connect preferences location

I bought a Intel MacMini for my father-in-law a couple years ago. It's running Tiger 10.4.11 and it has a Apple USB modem. He is on dial-up and always has been. The computer has never connected to the Internet any other way.
A year ago or so he changed his dial-up provider and things have never been the same since. When I open Internet Connect his old ISP logon information was under "Main number" in the pull-down menu. I tried to edit it by selecting "Edit configurations..." but the main number is grayed out and can't be edited. So I added a new configuration for his new ISP and for awhile, that worked fine as long as he remembered to select the right item in the pull-down since you cannot make anything but the Main number the default.
Then recently his ISP forced him to change his password but Internet Connect won't save the change so he has to type it in every time. He's in his 70s and this is all getting too complicated for him so I decided the best thing would be to delete all the settings in Internet Connect and start fresh. The problem is you cannot delete the Main number settings or the account from within Internet Connect.
So, I started looking in the Libraries for any files that might be the prefs for Internet Connect and I trashed all of them. This included all the plist files related to Internet Connect under HD > Library > Preferences and User > Library > Preferences. But I could not get rid of the settings under Main number no matter what.
Anyone know where this information is stored and how I can get rid of it?
Thanks!

See if you have this one...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.internetconnect.<12digi tHexNumber>.plist
Sometimes this holds that type of info also...
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist

  • IPad Internet connection preference

    Simple question:
I have an iPad 2 WiFi & 3G model with SIM card installed. If, say, I'm in my apartment and my iPad is connected to my home WiFi network (which has access to the internet), how will it prefer to connect to the internet: through WiFi or directly through its 3G connection?
    Thanks

verizon has a glitch so that turning 3G on and off often requires a reboot of machine, so prefer to leave both wi-fi and 3G on at same time -- so resolving which preferentially serves data is valuable to me (and perhaps to other verizon iPad users)

  • Where does Internet Connect store its preferences?

I've managed to mess up my Internet Connect settings (which used to work fine, with VPNs etc. etc.). Fortunately I have a complete mirror backup of my disk from before this problem. I don't want to do a full restore; does anyone know if there's a file that stores the Internet Connect preferences and settings that I can just copy over?

    Hi Michael!
    Maybe
HD > Users > Your Account > Library > Preferences: com.apple.internetconnect.plist this one?
    Good Luck!

  • Is Internet Connect a startup application?

Over the past week or two, after launching Safari or Firefox, the application indicates that it is not connected to the Internet. I need to go to Internet Connect (which is "idle") to manually connect to the net.
Should Internet Connect be connecting to the net as a function of startup? Or is the connection to the net made when a browser is launched?
I have dumped Internet Connect preferences but this makes no difference.
    Thoughts?

Thanks for the help. I found the problem playing around in Network. I connect through Ethernet. For some reason when the Location is set to my provider (sympatico) Internet Connect does not start up. When I switch Location to Automatic, Internet Connect now functions properly.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

This sounds like a job for ~/Library/Preferences. And indeed, I have some files there with likely looking names, such as,
    com.apple.internetconfig.plist
    com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
    com.apple.internetconnect.plist
I don't know if these are the ones you need to recover. You could check there modified dates using Get Info; if the date(s) are about when you messed things up that would suggest maybe they are.

  • Preference of internet connection

    Hi can you please assist.
I have saved wifi connection yet have 3G also active on phone. what takes preference when connected first wifi or 3G to interenet connection

    Hi Don!
I'm no longer using Dial-Up, but I hope I can still assist you.
Are you using AOL For Mac OS X Version 10.3.7 (Revision 4136.xxx (US))?
"...other programs and you click on say a link and the system keeps trying to go thru Safari..."
Which other programs, and where do the links lead to?
"...I have gone into preferences and clicked on AOL dial up..."
    Where did you select this?
Compare the Network Preferences to the ones below.
I can only show you, how I had mine set, when using the Apple Internal Modem with Dial-Up, on an iMac G3 running Panther 10.3.9, but they should be the same for Tiger.
NETWORK/INTERNET SYSTEM PREFERENCES (Apple Internal Modem Using Dial-Up) Adjustments may be necessary for different Mac models, systems, and connection method.
While AOL is not loaded, go to:
System Preferences > Network > Location: Select Automatic
Show: Select Internal Modem Or however you connect
On the PPP screen, click PPP Options. Check ONLY
    Disconnect when user logs off
On the TCP/IP screen, Configure using IPv4: Select Using PPP
On the Modem screen, Select your modem from the list. I'm using an iMac (Summer 2001), and I have Apple Internal 56K Modem (v.90) selected.
Check Enable error correction and compression in modem
Wait for dial tone before dialing
Show modem status in menubar This one isn't necessary, I just like it there!
    Also select your Country.
    Then, Location: Automatic
    Show: Network Port Configurations
Make sure Internal Modem, or however you connect, is checked and at the top of the window.
Click Apply Now at the bottom of the screen.

  • My ipod 5th gen says it is connected to the internet and i can go on apps that require an internet connection but whe i try to use the weather or another app that uses your current location it cant find me???

My ipod 5th gen says it is connected to the internet and i can go on apps that require an internet connection but whe i try to use the weather or another app that uses your current location it cant find me???

If you open the Maps app where does that say you are located?
For location the iPod uses the location of nearby routers that are in Apple's database of routers and their location. Thus it appears that Apple's database is incorrect. You do not have to be connected to the router, just within range.
Apple periodically updates their database based on information they obtain from iPhones, The iPhone has to have turned on the option to send info to Apple. no one has found another way to get the location of a router added/corrected.
You can confirm that by going to well-know place with wifi like Starbucks or McDonalds

  • How can a session be setup between two MacBook Pro's at different locations on high speed Internet connections, be setup to have a live recording session in Logic?

My partner and I live on opposite sides of the valley here in Phoenix. About 50 miles apart one way. We are Musicians and are working on a commercial for television, and would like to know if there is a way, between FaceTime and Logic, that we can configure our MacBook Pro's to record sessions together without having to be at the same house? When we FaceTime, he can hear my keyboard through his headphones, but we can't seem to get the signal routed into Logic and register to a track when its record enabled. Is there a way for us to save gas, and record at seperate locations, so he can engineer me and I can engineer him, while we build this project in Logic and Final Cut? Here is what we are using, we have nearly identicle setups, which was planned so we might be able to do something like this. Both of us are using Mid 2012 15" MacBook Pro's with 2.6GHz Intel i7 processors and 16GB RAM. The only difference between the two MacBooks is that his has an Optical Drive, but I removed mine and replaced it with a 2nd SSD Drive, so I have two Samsung 840 Pro's each with 512GB in my MacBook Pro. His just has one Samsung 840 Pro with 512GB. We both use Focusrite Saffire Liquid 56 Firewire Audio Interfaces, and we both use Logic Studio 9 Academic. I don't know if you need to know what we are using in order to help us figure out how to configure the MacBooks for a live session, so I figured I would give you those details just in case. If you need any more information, just let me know? Oh, we both have high speed cable Internet connections. Mine is 150Mbps speed which is the absolute fastest I can get in my area. And his is only a 50Mbps speed line.
Again, what we are looking to do is have a LIVE recording session, in Logic, with him at his house and me at my house. When we FaceTime each other, we can pretty much hear each others keyboards as if they were part of the conversation, and as crystal clear as we can hear our own when recording, but we can't seem to record enable an Audio track in Logic and route that keyboard signal into Logic and record it so we can engineer each other without either one of us having to drive to the others house, to be there to do it. If any of this even makes sense, I'm not quite sure how to better explain it. So hopefully you get what I mean, otherwise just say so, and I will try to do a better job explaining it.  :-)
Anyone who can help us with this little problem would be greatly appreciated, and quite a hero in these two humble Musicians Worlds!! So from both of us, THANK YOU in advance for any input you might be able to give us. I look forward to hearing any and all suggestions.
    Scott

    Hey Scott
You and ALOT of people are attempting to do this, myself included.
Unfortunately at this point (to my knowledge) it's a pretty CRAP setup involved that will likely leave you frustrated.
    HOWEVER:
A few things CAN be done:
IF you are getting live audio from your partner over the internet, you can re-direct that audio directly into Logic using a program called SoundFlower.
There are a few alternatives to SoundFlower, like JackTrip, and.....(the name eludes me)
(SoundFlower is from a company called Cyling 74 who also makes Max MSP. )
Once in Logic, you set your audio inputs to the track to be Soundflower. (either 16 inputs, or in this case 2)
That all being said, regardless to speed, you are still going to experience latency in the connection, and THAT is the part that will likely drive you to the mad house.
THIS all being said, I believe there are websites out there that are set up to actually do this kind of thing, (at least there WERE) but likely membership costs, and other "hidden" problems that you only learn about after you have signed on the dotted line. (Hopefully I am wrong?)
If you don't need to do a "live jam", there are always solutions like DropBox that work very well for exchanging large files quickly.
If you want to record live MIDI input from his keyboard, I am unaware of any solutions for this.
Due to the popularity of the iPad, you might want to look into the App store, and see if there is something available.
    Good luck!

  • No Internet Connection in some locations

Greetings all, and thanks in advance for the help...
I have a MBP 13", running 10.7.4. In most locations, the wi-fi works fine. In certain locations, though, I cannot pick up a connection even when all other devices in the area (wife's MB, iPads, PC's, etc.) can. For example, it consistently works in my office and at home, but I cannot get a connection at my in-laws' house. There are certain public hotspots where I see other people with Macs working online, but I cannot get a connection. In all cases, I will see the network, but it will show the '!' and the menu will read: Alert: No Internet Connection. If I access the connection in Networks, it does not pull an IP address. If I renew DHCP lease, it will still not pull an IP. If I connect to the router with an Ethernet cable, it works fine.
I've looked through many threads here, and have tried the following:
I have powered down and reset the MBP, router and modem.
I have confirmed that the router is not using anything higher than 10 (currently 9 for example).
I have connected manually, taken the IP address that is assigned and works (i.e. 192.168.0.7) and entered that as a manual address for the wi-fi connection.
I have run System Update and installed any updates necessary.
I have created a new location and tried that as well as using the Automatic setting.
I have burned fresh incense and been very cautious to only wave the smoke around the computer in a clockwise direction, never counter-clockwise.
It's maddening to not know at any given location whether or not you'll be able to connect there, and I know that if I take it into an Apple Store, they'll tell me "Well, it works in here, so it must be your router." Again, if it were only one location that consistenly didn't work, I'd be inclined to believe them, but the fact that a) other devices (including ones using Lion) work in these locations and b) it's multiple spots that consistently don't work tell me that there's something system-oriented happening here.
    Any thoughts are much appreciated!
    Many thanks.

I am having the same problem. It depends on where I am.
If I'm at home connected to my Netgear wifi connection, everything works fine. Some days into down to the coffee shop in my building and I get the no Internet connection warning, but others are connected.
I have to ask the coffee shop folks to reset their wifi router, and then I get the connection.
I am not sure what the disconnect is between the coffee shop router and my MacBook, but I'd much rather prefer to find a solution to reset my wifi card so it works, then having to ask the coffee shop barista to reset the router every time I have this happen.

  • When setting up new godaddy pop mail account, I get this error: Internet Accounts preferences can't connect to the account

Trying to set-up new godaddy mail account. Walked through it with the godaddy rep, so the settings are correct. It is a pop account and I merely want it to function within Mail. (I have other accounts like it that work with no problem.) However, when I try to go online with the account, I get this error message: "Internet Accounts Preferences can't connect to the account..." It then prompts me to enter the password for the account and says it is "Unable to verify account or password."
Godaddy says it is an Apple Mail issue because the account works fine in their Workspace. I sent test messages and when I login at godaddy, the messages are there. However, for some reason, Mail won't connect to it. Any ideas?
Thank you. I'm running OS X, version 10.9.4.

Yes. The account is there. There's just a verification with password issue. I had to change my password at Godaddy to include caps, special character, etc., and reinstall the account. Then I had to tweet the settings a bit. But think I have it resolved. Thanks.

  • Mail app intermittently fails to connect - internet accounts preferences cannot connect, then unable to verify name or password. Why?

Running 10.10.2 on early 2011 MBP, 8 GB RAM.
Mail app intermittently fails to connect - message: internet accounts preferences cannot connect, then unable to verify name or password.  No problem with iPhone to connect same 3 accounts. Have run Disk Utility and rebooted. What is happening?

Same issue, too.  But I have nothing better to do than try to fix Apple problems that appear mysteriously and randomly; I'm sure you're the same way.
The REAL REASON, which can no longer be overlooked, is that Apple's (probably underpaid sweatshop Chinese) employees build toys for grown-ups and do little more than that.  I wish I had never bought my Mac (2009) since few things about Apples are "intuitive" unless you've been an Apple cultist since Jobs introduced the first Mac.  Oh, and because things mysteriously stop working, something I don't recall happening with any of the PCs I've owned.
Apple's version of Excel is a total joke and on an update that I did not ask for, the "Save As" feature, a convention that was 30 years old and worked well, was removed in favor of "Duplicate, Rename, Save."  What 22 year-old Apple product manager was allowed to make this change?
I foolishly compounded my Mac purchase error by buying an iPhone 4S.  On that lovely ($200 Verizon-subsidized) product, I can no longer discover my home network, rendering my ($100) Airplay for outdoor music useless.  (But I probably can post a picture directly to Facebook or something!  More toyish behavior in which Apple specializes.)  Can I get support on these POS with a phone call?  No, I need to rely on a Aapl cultist to devise some esoteric key combo or a "jailbreak" on a Support board or blog site.
I'm eligible for a phone upgrade on 8/13 and I'm counting the days.  Will upgrade to a good large-screen laptop asap as well and then throw the Mac out my office window.  Junk, just junk.  Apple's stock is at $433 from $700 and it's still overpriced.  How long will this rant last before it's sanitized by the Cupertino Big Brother? Maybe what the children who design product ought to do instead is BUILD BETTER STUFF.

  • If I lost my Iphone, but when I tried to locate with ICloud - find my Iphone it's offline. I lost in another country  which means that there is no Internet connection on my phone. Is there any chance to find?

If I lost my Iphone, but when I tried to locate with ICloud - find my Iphone it's offline. I lost in another country  which means that there is no Internet connection on my phone. Is there any chance to find?

In order for a lost iPhone to be located you have to have set 'Find My iPhone' up on it before losing it, and it has to be on, not wiped, and able to connect to a network (how else could it transmit its location) - if any of these conditions is not true then locating it is not possible. You can't use the serial number or IMEI number to locate a phone: the former is only useful to identify it as yours if it turns up, and the latter can be used by most service providers to block it, rendering it useless and preventing anyone from spending your credit.

  • Location service only after initial Internet connection possible?

I have been to Budapest, Hungary last year. My iPod Touch 2G could not find my position although there were tons of WIFI networks around. I found an open hotspot in a café which was run by the town council. After connecting to it (and later without any Internet connection again) iPod found my possition at any place in the town. It was the same in another (German) town: I needed a short internet connection via a free hotspot to get the location service work.
Does the iPod download some sort of location data when I am far away from home?

Yes, you'll need to join a WiFi network before the location service will work properly. See this article for more interesting info about location service. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1975
    ...Notes:
iPod touch only uses Wi-Fi for Location Services (if a Wi-Fi network is available)...

Someone stolen my Iphone5 in the office. I tried to locate the location of my iphone with my MAC AIR using icloud but I cant locate my gadget because Its already block and dot have internet connection. Now, just wanted to know if there are some application that can still locate with an internet connection?

Unfortunately the iPhone needs to be connected to the internet to get located.
Technically, it is possible to locate it if the phone based on it´s IMEI number when it is switched on. But only your carrier on request of the police will be able to do it. Being realistic, I doubt that they will do the effort
Maybe by chance the thief connects to the net....that´s the only way.
Sorry, I fear that´s bad luck!
