Internet Connection Issues using BEFW11S4 and Verizon DSL

I'm trying to get my son's wireless router running on our home network.  The PC (WXP) works find when directly connected to the DSL modem (client IP: 192.168.1.46, DG: 192.168.1.1, DNS server 192.168.1.1, NetMask: 255.255.255.0)
When I install the BEFW11S4, I can connect to the router, reset factory defaults, release and renew IP; but the client times out when accessing the internet.
The IP info for the router is identical to that which I see on the PC when directly connected (IP: 192.168.1.46, DG: 192.168.1.1, DNS server 192.168.1.1, NetMask: 255.255.255.0)
I tried:
- Easy_LinkConnect - It fails when trying to access the internet.
I've tried pinging from my client to known good IPs, that fails
Reset to factory defaults
FW upgrades
- Is there a test untility on the router to test the WAN connection?
- Could there be a problem with the LinkSysy router IP (192.168.1.1) being the same as the WAN DG (192.168.1.1)?
Thanks in advance, Mike

Here's the latest update on the DSL/LinkSys saga. As it turns out, it had nothing to do with conflicting IPs. After peaking and poking for several days, I finally called verizon tech support. The problem was that the DSL modem (Westell 6100) needs to be in bridge mode if you're using a Linksys router (I suspect the 6100 assumes a sinle end nodes on its LAN side). However once the 6100 is in bridge mode, PPP authentication (which is done by Westell when in the router when in PPPoE) now needs to be done by all the PC's on the home network. Is there a way to have the LinkSys authenticate the PPP? Thx in advance

  • BEFW11S4 and Verizon DSL

I have Verizon DSL at home, looking to set up wireless network.
Verizon recommends the Linksys BEFW11S4, but gives no indication why.
Looking at posts for that product in this forum it seems the BEFW11S4 is an older product. Does anyone have experience with this Linsys router and Verizon DSL?

You can buy any wireless router you want. They all shall work.
(The only thing is N versions will not work with your laptop if your laptop is G and the router is N only.) BestBuy will push you to buy N because it is the most expensive.
My colleagues and I tend to stick with Linksys, NetGear, and DLink.
Many techies stay away from Belkin. You figure.

  • WRT54G Router - Internet connection issues using the Ipod touch

Ok, first - here is my setup. I've got the router hooked into the modem, with the desktop computer hooked directly into the router.  I've got my laptop running off wireless internet, and I've got an ethernet cable connecting through my laptop to an xbox for xbox live connection.  I recently just got an iPod touch, and I've come to realize that whenever I'm on the iPod, it messes with the internet on the desktop computer and on the xbox, but not the laptop really.. it makes the internet really slow, or sometimes it doesn't work at all, especially on the xbox.  Is there anything I can change to make these all work at the same time?  Or is this too many connections or what? Please help. thanx.
(running windows vista home premium, WRT54G router, pretty much beginner status, though I can follow directions easily : ] )
Also, the internet always works on the ipod, it seems as though the ipod is 'taking over' the internet.. it doesn't lose it while in the area, yet the other computers and xbox does at times..

You might be facing the problem, because the Ipod and your Desktop computer must be having the same IP address thats the reason whenever your IPod is connected to your Network, your Desktop must be getting disconnected. Check the IP address of your IPOD and of your Desktop Computer.
First thing which you need to check, if the Physical connections are done properly. Connect the Modem to the Internet Port of the Linksys Router and then Connect the computer to the LAN Port No.1. On your Desktop computer login to the setup page of your Router and click on the Status tab and check "Internet IP address"
If required you can Re-Set your Router and Re-configure all the settings on your Router from the scratch.

  • 4S Verizon Network / Internet Connectivity Issues?

I have been having problems with what appears to be Verizon Network/Internet Connectivity issues. I am located in northern Colorado, using an iPhone 4S with a Mophie Air battery backup/case.
I am in a solid 4G area (even though the phone is 3G) and I have not had any problems with any connection issues, until last night. I still see three bars of 3G service on the phone indicator area...so it is decieving.
I can still recieve emails, text messages, and phone calls, but nothing that uses the internet will work.  All apps seem to try to open and try to update, but the whizzy-wheel indicator just sits and spins until I get a "Network Error" message or a time out error of some kind. Most error pop-ups are saying to check the internet settings and try again. Ugh!
Also, since it seems to be trying to recognize the network all the time (even when all tasks are killed and nothing should be running), my battery is going down MUCH faster today! I took it off of the charger at 7am and it was down to 20% battery in only 4 hours! Then I turned on the battery backup, and it is quickly using that up too! At this rate my phone will be completely DEAD by the time I leave work today, and I haven't even used it for anything all day (except to try to connect to the web a few times - testing)!
I have tried the following so far to try to regain internet through the Verizon network, to no avail:
checked for software updates...phone was up to date with iOS 6.0.1
checked my firmware version (it is 3.0.04)
killed all background/running apps (with the home button double-click/hold icon/end)
"reset" my phone via a couple of methods (both the regular power off option and the force-power off option).
*228, option 2 (to reset Roaming)
    cleared all data cache areas/cookies/etc.
    Cellular data is set to "On"; Roaming is set to "On" for all options;
I have a 64GB device (57.3 usable capacity) of which I still show 46.2 available.
WiFi is set to "Off" (although I can use WiFi at home with no problem if I need to, but I shouldn't have to!)
Airplane Mode is set to "Off"; Restrictions are set to "Off"; Bluetooth is set to "Off"
Basically, there is NO REASON my phone should be having connection issues!
    PLEASE HELP?!!

I tried everything you did and more, i thought i had it working, but i got a voicemail today and when i went to open it earlier it just has the wheel loading forever and then says it cant onnect to voicemail. the searching does make it wear down the battery faster as well.  i can get calls, texts etc, but i cant help but think there are a few bugs with the ios 6.01 software

  • WRT610N v1 connection issues, media center and internet

Good evening. I am having a connection issue with my wireless/wired connection and am wondering if anyone else has had the issue.
    I am running the following
    WRT610N V1
    Firmware Version: 1.00.03 B15
    Windows 7 Enterprise Edition
I have an Xfxforce 780i motherboard with onboard dual 1gb nics plugged into the router.
I am also using an Xbox 360 Wireless N device.
The issue i have been having recently are two, both seem to be router related.  Sometimes while gaming or on the web I will losing connection to my gateway. I have both of my nic mac addressed reserved in the router.  On my windows 7 machine the internet connection will stop working and I will have to repair the connection.
The issue i have been experiencing with my Xbox 360 is sever choppiness while streaming recorded tv shows over my network
For the most part while I am streaming the video's i am doing nothing else, it should be noted that i can watch the vidoes on the PC without an issue so the issue shouldn't be pc related.  I initally though maybe resource related but the vidoes run fine on the pc.  Restarting has no effect.
I did do a hard reset on my router but that did not solve the issue.  The issue is semi random but the frequence is fairly higher.  Sometimes I will get through a full show or two and sometimes the quality of the steam will be horried. Where pausing and restarting won't do anything.
I have used a direct wired connection and I still get the video degredation so I believe the issue is my access point.
For the price that i paid for this unit, $200 - yes i did say 200 as it is a V1 model and i got it when they came out, this is one of the worst issue I have ever had.
I am going to test a netgear 54g tomorrow night to see what experience I get.
I did some poking on the forum here and I noticed others have had some degredation issue but nothing seem to solve it even though their threads are marked as solved.  I have tried turning off windows 7 firewall and disabling my AV to make sure those weren't the issue, which they aren't.
It should be noticed that my machine is the following and I am fairly sure the issue isn't pc hardware related.
    win7 pro
    xfx force 780i
    intel e8500 dc 3.16
    evga nvida 9800 gtx ssc
seagate dual 250gb raid 0 hard drive
    4gb g.skill pc8500 ram.
I am adding more ram later this weekend to take it to 8gb and a new 1tb drive to transfer my media center data too. I do not believe this will fix my issue since the only issue I can see is the Linksys router.
    thoughts?

Try these things, in this order:
    1. Disable Home Defender.
If that does not work, try
    2. Reducing MTU to 1300 (recommended by someone else on here for a throughput issue). This may not be relevant to you, but it doesn't hurt to try. MTU settings don't generally apply to in-network connections. But who knows what's what when it comes to this router.
    3. Disable Upnp. Some people, like myself find this setting necessary - but you may want to just go ahead and disable to see if that helps.
    4. You need to remove the name of the competing product (that router) from your post. I got banned from the forum for a few days for mentioning that I was using so and so router for the time being. Do it before the post is deleted or you're banned.
Good Luck. Let us know if anything here fixes your problem.
Remember that you'll need to give the router 'time' with each fix separately. Don't  do all 3 things. Do 1 at a time and give the router a few days, to feel out if the solution works or not.
    Good Luck.

  • EA6900 Internet Connection Issue - Desktop connected via ethernet cable

    Hi there,
I have an HP p6837c, 64-bit OS with Windows 7 Home Premium. It is directly connected to the EA6900 via ethernet cable. My internet connection constantly drops (as in variably every 5 seconds to 5 minutes) then re-establishes itself. I have no internet connection issues when directly connected to the modem. All of the wirelss devices that are connected via the EA6900 are working without any issue. My husband's laptop, which has Windows 8.1, functions with no problem when directly connected to the EA6900 via ethernet cable. We've tried swapping out the cable. We've tried adjusting the MTUs per Support's suggestion. Nothing has solved the issue
Any thoughts on what the issues might be? Settings? The version of Windows? Any help would be much appreciated!

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
Check cable between Modem and Router and PC, swap out to be sure. Link>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6 is recommended.
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask.
I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For cable Internet, RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.
    Router and Wired Configurations
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting and maintain consistency for applications that need to connect as well as mapped drives.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
If http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only.
PC 3rd Party Security Software Configurations
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
    Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

  • My brand new mac pro always had Internet connection issues at school. WHY is that? I see the school's Internet working perfectly fine on other PC's, but there is never a day where my mac doesn't have Internet connection issues at school. How do I fix it?

I got my mac pro in the middle of August. School started the week after. Internet was working perfectly fine at home. But at school, I never had a good connection. Sometimes on the good days I get a connection when I'm sitting at the exact spot in class I always sit at. It's ridiculous and it's frustrating. I invested my money into this laptop and I'm beginning to regret it. I thought it was the school's Internet, but I don't see Internet issues with other PC users. It's most frustrating on registration days and I'm trying to register for my classes before it gets taken, but again... Internet connection issues. It's random. Majority of the time, it doesn't work at all. I've done Network Diagnosis and turning WiFi off then turning it on again. I've done everything I could. I put my money on this laptop and it was a lot of money. I could have bought an 800 dollars laptop and I would have Internet connection anywhere on campus. So, I don't want to continue everyday to regret on buying this laptop every time I try to connect to the Internet at school or Starbucks or anywhere else. How do I fix this? What's the problem ?
At school, I heard this guy had a problem with Internet connections too and he owned a new mac book pro. He said something like Apple messed up on something, but he fixed it. If I knew mac book pro's had these issues I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. It's freezing on me every other day. It's ridiculous. But what concerns me the most is the Internet connection. So someone please tell me what can I do next to prevent the problem? Am I doing something wrong maybe?

    Hi Kevin,
I'm using an XLR input mic which is connected to the phantom power enabled XLR mic socket on a USB M-Audio M-Track. The M-Track is connected by USB to the Mac Pro - so effectively I've got an M-Audio USB soundcard with a mic input.  I've also tried a microphone that is a straight XLR to USB cable (guessing with some soundcard chip buried in the usb plug) but that also yields the same effect of bad latency, intermittent quality, stuttering and repeating and echoing (without the speakers on during record so its not feedback).
The mic works absolutely fine with other recording applications I have on the mac at the moment - albeit non-adobe ones (tested it on the EasyAudioRecorder - and it lives up to its name. it's easy)
I will try with Audition and report back, but sitting here right now I can imagine it would work fine with audition too - it just seems to be the way premiere is set up for recording into the timeline is a bit sketchy.  I'm willing to accept it might well be a quirk with the new Mac Pro trashcan - I'm not weighting all the woes on premiere.
Any thoughts or am I out of luck to sit with my fingers crossed for a fix in the next round of updates?
    Nathan.

  • Mail and Verizon DSL

My ISP is Verizon DSL. Between yesterday and today, I stopped being able to send mail through both Mac mail and Verizon DSL webmail. Earlier today, I began to be able send mail through Verizon's webmail, but still not through Mac mail. After spending 2 hours on the telephone today with 3 different Verizon tech support people (none of whom could do more than verify that my incoming and outgoing mail settings were correct), I was told that the issue did not lie with Verizon, but that it was a Mac mail issue.
One of the 3 techs I had spoken with had asked me to change the outgoing server port from 25 to 587. I decided to change it back to 25, which was the setting that it had always had. Once I did that, Mac mail worked right away.
So, I cannot believe that this is a Mac mail issue, and, of course, Verizon claims that it is a Mac issue. All during this time, my .mac account worked fine in Mac mail.
Has anyone else ever seen anything like this? Is this a Verizon snow job or is Mac mail buggy this way? Thanks.
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

.Mac's SMTP server is password authenticated and many ISPs don't block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network on Port 25 as long as the SMTP server is authenticated but you are probably using 587 for the server port for .Mac's SMTP server.
Since you were unable to send messages with your Verizon account when accessing the account via webmail either, this is a strong indication that the problem was with Verizon. Being able to send messages via webmail was restored and it appears the same for their SMTP server with an email client such as Mail.
Sending via webmail access does not use an SMTP server.
Many of these ISP tech support personal are poorly trained or just not very knowledgeable or uninformed. Some report here that their ISP tech support informed them that the ISP doesn't block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network which is completely wrong so this is either very poor training and/or the ISP not hiring the best of employees probably due to low pay.
There are no perfect email clients either and the file that stores account information and SMTP server information for the Mail application can become corrupt and cause sending problems. Having SMTP servers available to choose from which are not being actively used by any account can sometimes cause sending problems with a valid SMTP server that is working properly.
Since you were also unable to send messages via Verizon's webmail access for a period of time which was later restored along with not being able to send messages with Verizon's SMTP server with Mail which was also restored later and all the while being able to send messages with .Mac's authenticated SMTP server, this indicates a Verizon problem 100%.

  • I have a PC with a internet connection through a modem and ever since i have had it i have had no connection to the itunes store. And even if I try to update anything it says that i need to check my connection, but my connection is fine. What should I do?

I have a PC with a internet connection through a modem and ever since i have had it i have had no connection to the itunes store. And even if I try to update anything it says that i need to check my connection, but my connection is fine. What should I do?

This almost always indicates your firewall or anti-virus utilities are preventing iTunes from contacting the iTunes Store. Here is an exerpt from "Can't connect to the iTunes Store": http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
    Troubleshooting on Windows
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store for more than a day —and other customers on our discussion boards aren't experiencing similar issues— a software or internet service provider (ISP) configuration issue may be blocking your access to the iTunes Store. Click here to find out which ports and servers need to be allowed for iTunes Store access.
Update iTunes to the latest version.
If you have not done so already, try the steps in iTunes for Windows: iTunes Store connection troubleshootingto troubleshoot iTunes Store connectivity in Windows.
    Firewall issues:
Windows XP: If you've upgraded to Windows XP Service Pack 2: By default, Windows Firewall is enabled. As with all firewalls not manufactured by Apple, you will need to configure Windows Firewall to allow iTunes to access the iTunes Store. To do so, see How to enable iTunes in the Windows XP Firewall.
Windows Vista and 7: As with all firewalls not manufactured by Apple, you will need to configure Windows Firewall to allow iTunes to access the iTunes Store. To do so see, the "Blocked by software firewall" section in this article.
Proxies can cause issues and should be avoided whenever possible. To disable the proxy built-in to Windows see, iTunes for Windows Can't access the Internet if proxy settings are incorrect.
If you are receiving a specific error message you may want to see, the "Specific Conditions and Alert Messages" section in this article as needed.
If the issue still persists, contact your internet service provider and confirm that the ports and servers in this article are enabled over your network.
The "hosts" file may be blocking the iTunes Store
Microsoft's article How do I reset the hosts file back to the default? has instructions and a "FixIt" to have Windows try to reset the hosts defaults for you.
Note: Some workplaces may put internal resources in the hosts file but may also use it to block iTunes Store.
To create a copy of your hosts file and replace it with an empty hosts file, follow the instructions for your operating system below.

  • Internet Connectivity Issues

By process of elimination, I may have the right source of my problem, but may not!
Recently purchased a Time Capsule, primarily to replace my old Airport Extreme and extend its effective range within a new house. At the same time, I upgraded my iMac OS to Snow Leopard (so maybe this has caused a problem?!)
In the last few days have been having severe internet connectivity issues - either v slow speeds or so slow that Mail and/or Safari times out. My ISP tells me that their lines are working fine (I know they would say that, wouldn't they) and, admittedly, my old Powerbook (connected to the Airport network and onto the DSL router) is running Internet applications fine. So somthing seems to be wrong with the iMac or its setup.
Have run Network Diagnostics which tell me there's no problem (except it's still really slow!) and have obviously rebooted repeatedly (including the router and Time Capsule).
    Any ideas?

    Hello AnaB4,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see that you are getting a message to connect to server to update ink levels when printing with the 8620. This has been an issue since the weekend, server problems have been noted as the cause. The only resolution I know of at this time is to follow the steps here: Re: How do I correct the date on my HP Envy 4500?, or keep hitting OK.

  • Internet connectivity issues on Mac

I was wondering if there was any solution to an internet connectivity issue I'm having on a mac. It seemed to start when I purchased a new modem: an iPrimus AudioCodes MP252 wireless router. Basically the internet connection will either drop out or become stagnant/very slow. There have been no connection/speed issues on any Windows PC or laptop, but often when you try to use the internet on the mac it precipitates a network dropout, thus affecting the connection on Windows computers as well.
I'm trying to see if there's anything else that can be done besides taking it in to be serviced. ISP support hasn't been able to fix the issue, so perhaps it is some sort of compatibility issue between that particular modem and Apple Macs. Obviously the last resort is buying a new modem.
Modem: AudioCodes MP252 Series wireless router
Mac: Mac OS X Version 10.6.8

Hi, some Modems/Routers only like Windows PCs, also see if QoS is running on it giving most resources to PCs.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.
If that doesn't work try changing channels on your Router.

  • How to disconnect internet connection in Time Capsule and reconnect without restarting the whole device?

Hi, I would be very grateful if someone could tell me how to disconnect internet connection in Time Capsule and reconnect without restarting the whole device?
The thing is that as I have a dynamic IP address, everytime I restart the internet connection my IP address changes. I sometimes need it to change, so I need to restart the connection. I don't know another way to restart the connection than restarting the whole Time Capsule.
    Thanks!!
PD: the computer I use is Windows based, using the Airport Utility for Windows, but I also have a MacBook Pro I could use and an iPhone too.

The utility in windows is very like Mac so the screenshots are from Mac as I don't have windows available now.
How this works depends on the setup of the TC.. which you did not tell us.. you cannot change anything if you do not have the TC as the main router in the network.
So on the internet tab you need to share a public IP address.
On the next tab where you set IP address.
    Click the renew IP address.
It might work.. and it might not.. the problem is you are not disconnecting the network.. sometimes the hard disconnection is required before the address will renew..
What about unplugging the WAN port.. then click renew the IP which will fail.. then plug the wan back in again.
In the end it is easier and faster to power cycle the TC.

  • Do you need internet connection to use pacman? [solved]

    Yes you do.
    Sorry for the dum question,
Do I need to have internet connection to use pacman?
    Thanks
The reason I ask is because I need madwifi for my wireless and Arch does not allow me to install this file using pacman -A ......

Any particular reason for not using the already built package in extra ?
    http://archlinux.org/packages/search/?q=madwifi
You can get it from any mirrors, for example :
    ftp://ftp.belnet.be/packages/archlinux/ … pkg.tar.gz
Btw, pacman has a feature which might be useful :
    pacman -Sp madwifi ~
    resolving dependencies... done.
    http://mir1.archlinuxfr.org/archlinux/extra/os/i686/madwifi-utils-0.9.3.1-1.pkg.tar.gz
    http://mir1.archlinuxfr.org/archlinux/extra/os/i686/madwifi-0.9.3.1-1.pkg.tar.gz
madwifi depends on madwifi-utils, so you'll want to download this package too.

  • Do I need continuous internet connection to use cc

I frequently do not have an internet connection. Can I still use Photoshop and Lightroom when disconnected?

See also Creative Cloud Help | Creative Cloud / Common Questions
Do I need to be online to access my desktop apps?
No, the desktop applications in Creative Cloud, such as Photoshop and Illustrator, are installed directly on your computer, so you don’t need an ongoing Internet connection to use them.
