Internet connection lost when the phone is used

Have had BT internet for well over a year with no problems, but over the last few days I have experienced problems with losing the internet connection.  I have now pinpointed it to the fact that as soon as the phone is used (receiving or making a call) the internet connection is lost.  Once the phone call is finished, it can take up to a minute before the internet connection comes back (ie. the Broadband sign on the hub is yellow while there is a problem, but after a minute or so after the call is finished it turns blue again).  Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?  There has been no recent changes to hardware or equipment that could be the cause of this.
Thanks :-)

Probably a line fault, however you need to check that the fault is still present when you plug everything into the master socket, just to prove there is no problem on your internal wiring.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • Internet connection lost when restarting the computer

    Hello everyone.
I live in Denmark, and 6 days ago I bought a new TOSHIBA pc: a Sattelite L855D-100. From the very start there has been a problem with the wireless internet connection. When I restart the pc, the internet connection is gone afterwards, and I am not able to re-establish the connection in any possible way. I have to shut down the pc - wait a few seconds - and then start the pc in 'normal' way. Then the wireless internet connection is okay.
But the problem is the same every time I restart the pc.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
I thank You in advance for Your help and advice.
    Best regards Svend in Copenhagen.

    Satellite L855D-100 (PSKAYE-003004DU) <- Netherlands version
A brand new computer should work right off the shelf, Svend.
I would restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media just once. And then return it for a new one if things are still not working right.
See the section System Recovery, which begins on p. 4-16 of the User's Manual (attached).

  • Internet connection lost when using Windows with Parallels 5

A couple of months ago I installed Parallels 5 and Windows 7 thinking I'd need to use it some day and of course I went to use Windows on my MacBook Pro today only to find that I can't connect to the internet via Windows. It keeps telling me that I need to install a network adapter. I'm using Airport to connect me to a Netgear wireless router which works fine in Mac OS X. I thought perhaps connecting to the router directly with an ethernet cable might work - it didn't. I've also had a quick play under the DEVICES menu in Parallels (taking a guess at some settings, with no luck).
I would appreciate any suggestions - thanks in advance

Did you install the Parallels Tools package? It includes drivers that link the Windows virtual machine to OS X.
That is to say, there should be a command in one of the Parallels Desktop menus (have Parallels but not version 5) that installs this package into the VM. You may need to REinstall if it didn't take the first time.

  • HT4972 Why since I updated to OS5 my bluetooth pairing is lost when the phone (3GS) is switched off?

Since I updated to OS5 my bluetooth pairing is lost every time I switched off my phone (3GS), why is this the case?
I have heard that others are also experiencing bluetooth issues.

I'm encountering the same problem as the original poster.  In my case, I'm using FCP 10.1 (running on OS 10.9.1).  My source file is DV video imported via FireWire from a DV camcorder.  The clip's audio is fine when playing inside of Final Cut Pro 10.1, but when I share the project the audio track is just white noise.  My share settings are to Apple 720p devices (the subseqent dialog boxes indicate the software has figured out it's really 640x480 video).
Here's what the QuickTime Inspector says about the source file:
    Format:
    DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 720 x 480 (640 x 480)
Linear PCM, 16-bit little-endian signed integer, 48004.6 Hz, Mono
Linear PCM, 16-bit little-endian signed integer, 48004.6 Hz, Mono
    FPS:  29.97
    Data Size:  5.87 GB
    Data Rate:  30.30 Mbit/s
    Current Size:  640-480 (actual)
I tried changing from "faster encode" to "better quality", but it made no difference.
The rather dated version of Compressor I have (v3.5.3) was able to encode the clip to H.264 640x480 and the results are fine.  However, it took way longer than FCP 10.1 (I think it's too old to be taking advantage of the GPU).

Just installed IOS 8 to iphone 5 and cannot connect to WI FI. Sometimes connects and when I begin to use the phone ot drops out.
I have attempted all the regular trouble shoots such as resets, complete restore and reinstallation of ios 8. no change.

I don't have an answer for you but from my experience iOS WiFi syncing has always been a hit and miss affair (more miss than hit I'm afraid). I have gotten to the stage where I rarely use the WiFi sync. It is just quicker, easier and much less stressful to use the USB cable. I am having the same issues with all the iOS devices in our family which includes various models of iPhone, iPad and an iPod Touch and have been having them since WiFi syncing was introduced (in iOS5 ???). And then I have not even mentioned my favorite iTunes syncing messages: "Waiting for items to copy" and "Waiting for changes to be applied"!
iTunes is always extremely quick and eager to pick up the devices but as soon as I click on sync it shows "Looking for iDevice" and then the device disappears. I have found that initiating the sync from the Settings app on the device prevents this issue.
It does however seem as if it is worse with Windows 7. I did not have so many issues with my previous Windows Vista PC.
Sorry I cannot be of any help.

My iPhone 4 has lost SIM connection several times over the past week when the phone is left on continually. I have had the SIM checked and it was not the source of the problem. I have found that I can reactivate the SIM by switching the phone off and on again. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, is there an easy fix. I have been advised by Apple that the latest IOS update may overcome this situation but I'm only on slow download speeds and 690 Mb would take forever. I would appreciate any advice.
    Best regards,

  • Internet connection loss when not in use

Hi, earlier this week I picked up a Mac Mini G4 running Mac OS X 10.4.11. I have it plugged into the interwebs through it's Ethernet port. The cable runs straight into a DSL modem. The modem seems to be working fine. All lights are on as they're supposed to be. When the internet is in use, the computer browses the web just fine. When left alone for a bit, the computer loses it's connection to the internet. The connection is also lost when the computer is in use but the internet is not being used (tying in Word, fiddling with Garageband for a long time etc). In the system preferences, under network, the status of the Ethernet flashes between "Built in ethernet is currently active and has the IP address ..... You are connected to the internet via built-in-Ethernet." and "The cable for built in Ethernet is not connected." Halp!

I am having an identical problem. When I go to the network settings - choose built in Ethernet - then connect - it processes and connects using the PPPoE password settings. I can then surf on safari or firefox. If I log off either or put the computer to sleep, when I log back on all settings are lost and I have to go thru the whole process again. Vianet said not their problem. Belkin said not router problem as Internet lights are all active. But if I use the airport utility I get zero Internet. What can I do? Mac mini is from 2005. Also 10.4.11.

I have a IPhone 5 and Iphone 5s, each phone is activited with a different service provider. Both are set up with the same account ID and running IOS 8.0.2. When the phones are connected to the same Wifi at home, both phones will ring when someone call in to one of the phone.  Hence you do not know exactly which line the caller called.  If you answered using the wrong phone, then anyone calling the other number will not get through.  Anyway to solve this problem?

    Hey David Koh TP,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like your devices are set up to use continuity together. Specifically, it sounds like you are signed into the same Apple ID in FaceTime, and have iPhone Cellular Calls enabled. To resolve your issue, simply disable this setting:
Connect your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch using Continuity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6337
    Turn off iPhone cellular calls
To turn off iPhone Cellular Calls on a device, go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off iPhone Cellular Calls.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

I have a Macbook Pro (2013) OS 10.8.1.  Moved into a university house and need to use ethernet cable. Bought the Thunderbold connection but when I try to use the ethernet with it a webpage comes up saying Wireless Setup and Router Setup? I have previously used ethernets in similar situations and never had to input information like this?

I have tried to turn of the wi-fi but that doesn't work either. I think it could be a something to do with the internet provider because virginmedia comes up on the webpage. This is what comes up:
    Wireless Setup
    WGR614V9
    V1.0.11_1.0.1VGUK
    Wireless Setup
    Name (SSID):
    Security Passphrase (WPA-PSK):

                       01                   06                   11
    Router Setup
    Router Password:

    any ideas?!?

  • I just updated my iphone 4 to ios6 and now I can't keep the wifi connection to stay on. I have to keep entering my wifi password when the phone goes to sleep. How do I keep the wifi connection when I wake up the phone?

I just updated my iphone 4 to ios6 and I can't keep the wifi connection when the phone goes to sleep. I need to keep entering my wifi password when I wake up the phone. How do I keep the wifi on each time I walk into my house without reentering my password?

What? Do you work for Apple?
I have been on the phone for Apple since 5:30 Eastern Time today. We are still on the phone with them. It is 10:14 PM. We are going to get a new phone because the ios6 has major problems! The wifi connectivity is a serious problem. Apple is aware of it. More people need to do something about it. I am willing to start a class action suit against them. I have means to an attorney pro bono. If you are having problems using your iphone 4 or 4s with wifi and ios6...I suggest you spend time calling a senior advisor and get a new phone sent to you. They know they messed up but they can't fix it.

  • Can one limit updating of shared Photostreams to when the phone is connected to computer?

My mum has a 5S with iOS 8 which is connected to a shared photo stream where I post photos and videos of our family. My mum's contract has a 1GB limit and she noticed this month that she passed that limit. I think this is because her phone updates the shared photo stream over the cellular network (she doesn't have a wifi network at home). Is there a setting in iOS 8 to limit such updating to when the phone is connected to her computer?
    Many TIA
    Philip

    Hello pullman,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand from your post that you want to disable the cellular data connection with Photos as to avoid overages.  To do this, go to Settings > Cellular, and turn photos off.

  • My daughter lost her phone.  It is still ringing when called and is showing up on our family locator.  Is there anyway to pinpoint where it is?  She didn't have icloud find my phone turned on when the phone was lost.

My daughter lost her iphone.  I can locate it with verizon family locator, as it is still working, but this doesn't pinpoint it well enough for us to find it.  She did not have the find my iphone in icloud turned on when the phone was lost.  Is there any way to change the settings on her phone from a pc so I can turn this on?

If the iphone is a device which is using the iOS 7.0.4 then the 'find my device' is turned on by default. With this being said if you will go to www.icloud.com and login with your apple id login which is assocaited with the device icloud will pinpoint the device within a 10 meter radius.
    Good luck Friend.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.
