Everytime i switch off the computer and turn it on again the network settings change to 'internal modem' and i need to manually change back to 'speedtouch USB'. can anyone help please, it is really annoying and a apple newcomer i am thinking now i have made a mistake! any ideas would be most welcome.

Think there is an open bug on this...
Instead of restarting Firefox, if you toggle work offline on and then off again it should connect

  • Internet Connection Settings Inconsistencies

    Hello,
I have a scenario where a small group of Windows 7 Pro computers are going to be used to administer an exam. The exam will be done in MS Word and the students
will be permitted online access to a few sites for research. In addition to their being a proctor in the room, the web-sites that the students will be allowed to visit must be metered. The easiest and cheapest way I have found to do this is to use Windows
7's built-in Internet Connection settings, much in the same way the settings for IE can be controlled, but for all of the browsers on the operating system. I set a proxy to a bogus address and allow exceptions for sites on a per address basis. A GPO prevents
users from changing proxy settings after they are logged in to Windows.
The problem is that the allow list for web-sites does not perform consistently. Allowing *.abc.com or just abc.com has the differing effects. Also not all of the
sites work on all of the computers. Abc.com will work on one machine but not another even though they are cloned from the same Windows image and are using the same proxy settings. A GPO is not used to distribute the proxy settings. I couldn't find where to
do that in group policy. Also, going to www.abc.com will work for a site but the entry
of just abc.com will not, though it is entered that way in the proxy list. Windows clearly states that entering just abc.com for a site will cover all domains going up and down, but it doesn't in practice. This is very frustrating. Has anyone had to do something
like this in the past or have a way to make Windows behave consistently?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Could you please have a share with the IE version?
We should make sure the GPO works on the Internet Explorer version on all Windows 7 machines.
In addition, regarding proxy bypass list, we may check this article:

Or we may consider to set the firewall settings as Ed suggested.

  • On a certain website, it says to click here to download plugin (Java). When executing the download, it says 'the installer cannot proceed with the current Internet Connection settings. I'm running 4.01. It was fine before the upgrade.

On a certain website, it says to click here to download plugin Java Runtime Environment. I receive the message installer cannot proceed with the current Internet Connection settings. It was fine before the upgrade to 4.01. I have another PC that has IE on it and it works fine and again it worked fine until the upgrade to 4.01. I've done the off-line download but in Firefox it still says I need the plugin and still results in the installer cannot proceed with the current Internet Connection settings.

You can install Java from here: http://www.java.com/en/<br><br>
You also need to update your Flash installation since the one you have at the moment exposes your system to attack. It's a similar story for Adobe Reader.

  • Restoring Internet Connect settings

How do you restore the Internet Connect settings from backup? I have a new installation and I copied everything over but when I open Internet Connect it doens't show any of my dialups. The usernames and passwords and phone numbers are in the keychain.
Is there any way I can avoid having to reset all this manually?
    thanks.

Glad you got it resolved. I saw your question, but I had a very busy weekend and hardly got near a computer.

  • Internet connection settings

    Hi,
I recently went on holiday to China for a week and during that period I used airport wifi connections and the broadband connection in my hotel room, but since my return home my dial up connection has been giving me problems. When I go into Systems Preferences and the Network setting and try to change them I get a drop window that informs me that 'Your network settings have been changed by another application' which I can't get rid of. When I press OK it simply returns. I have to use force quit to escape and I can't change the settings. Any suggestions?

I had partial success with your last suggestion in that the pane that dropped down to tell me about my settings being set by another application stop doing so which allowed me to put in the details about using an external modem, etc. Then I locked it,- but when I use the Internet Connect in my dock, it dials okay but the authentication always fails and I have to go through the Network/Configuration to access the internet. ( The 'assist' doesn't seem to be active anymore) Also, all the details on the PPPoE page have gone and the screen isn't active to allow me to insert them. And could you tell me if it's correct for the NETCfG tool box to appear on the lock when it asks me about using the password...Deny/Once/Always use ? I'm always suspicious when I see those little 'exec' boxes appear.
Could the fact that I downloaded the Frostwire sharefiles application just prior to going on holiday have anything to do with my problem?
Thanks for your continued interest. Much appreciated.

  • 700w internet connection settings?

Just subscribed to Page Plus for my 700w Verizon phone. Initially it worked great until I updated to the latest 1.22 version. Now I can't connect to the internet and the pop up window says I need to change settings. I've tried over and over and can't seem to find the right settings it wants. Did upgrading to 1.22 cause some kind of settings change that impacts the internet connectivity? The only thing I can "see" that's changed is that it added the "wireless manager" feature, but that shouldn't have had any effect on the ability to connect right? Suggestions please.

  • Mysterious dropouts: Connection settings change themselves randomly

Having installed a new Airport Extreme Base station (802.11n) including the software that came with it (Airport Utility), the wireless internet connection behaves strangely. It is all set up to access the internet via DSL modem and Airport. There are two Airport Extreme Base Stations, one new (main station) and one older (WDS second station). Now, the connection should be over PPoE. Sometimes it works - but then suddenly the connection fails - if I then lookup the status in the application "Internet Connect", it states: "Connected to the Internet via Ethernet". Two things wrong there: First, there is no working connection to the internet. Secondly, I have Ethernet disabled on my computer (and all the others in the network). This change occurs sometime during being connected without me touching anything.
Then it is pure luck to get connected again. Usually it helps to change a minor setting of the Base Station in the Airport Utility, and then restart. Sometimes changing a network setting briefly and then changing back again helps - for a while...
I would find it interesting to hear if there are others with this problem. No idea where it comes from. My guess is that the new Base Station does not work properly, or the new Airport Utility... but it did with the older Base Station before. Any kind help would be appreciated.

  • FF will not hold internet connection settings when closed

Since upgrading to FF4 and subsequently to FF5:
Each day, after booting my system and starting FF, I have to go i nto preferences to reset the internet connection to 'no proxy'. FF defaults to a manual proxy config when closed. The network connection setting of 'no proxy' just won't hold when FF closes.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • "The Wi-Fi network you selected is not providing an Internet connection.  Change your settings or choose a different network."

Why is my iPhone 4s suddenly giving me this error message.  The laptop and desktop I have connected to the router work fine.  I have erased the iPhone and restored it at least four times and have tried all the other suggestions listed by Apple.
Not too happy with this piece of equipement.  Never have been.

Cycle power in your network router.  Make sure it has its latest firmware.
If that doesn't solve it, next try resetting your iPad.  Hold the on/off and power buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears.

  • No internet connection after change

I've had my WRT54GL for a few months now and have two computers that are wired and 3 that are wireless. I started having problems with conflicting IP's a couple days ago on one of my wired computers which was set for auto DHCP so I changed the settings and made it a static IP, this is when the problem started. I have Network Magic on all computers and even though it says I'm connected to the internet and the network, I am not able to get online. My other wired computer has been on Static IP for months and works fine so I have no idea what's going on. Any advise would be appreciated. My OS is XP home FYI.

Here's an update. I just added a new Epson wireless printer so now I have 6 devices on the network but only the 2 wired computers and the 2 printers online all of the time. The other 3 wireless computers are only on every now and then and are not part of this problem. Here's what I have in IP's that are being used:
Wired computer #1 - IP is 202  Static
Wired computer #2 - IP is 204  DHCP  <--- Problem computer
Printer #1 wired - IP is 200 DHCP
Printer #2 wireless - IP is 206  DHCP
Wired Computer #2 is the one having the problems. If I leave it on DHCP it works fine but if I make it Static IP 204 it shows that everything is connected through NM but there is no internet. There are no conflicts and all computers can see each other through the network. I can switch computer #2 back to DHCP and all is well again and BTW shows that it is still using IP 204. There's got to be a setting somewhere preventing computer #2 from accessing the internet but I can't find it.
I hope this makes everything clear on what the problem is. I also tried shutting off Windows Firewall and that did not work either.

  • I receive a message that I am unable to connect and check internet connections. I'm able to access thru Explorer. Tried re-downloading Firefox. Thoughts?

Have been using Firefox for a number of years. About two weeks when I attempted to access a bookmark through Mozilla I got an unable to connect. Have tried multiple things including removing and reinstalling several times. Each time I attempt to got to a site I receive a "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.X. I'm offered choices to retry; check network connection or check Firewall or proxy and make sure Firefox is permitted access to the Web.
To the best of my knowledge I made no changes to the access. I am able to reach the internet via internet explorer and can reach the sites that Firefox is denied. I've tried playing with the internet connection settings but to no avail.

I, too, have used Mozilla/Firefox for yrs and like it very much. After some security issues and my security company worked on the issues, Mozilla/Firefox disappeared from my screen. I'm getting the following when I try to download:
    C\user\Lee\App Data\Data\Local\temp
    7zEEEE.temp\set up. exe
    D:users\Lee AppData\Local
    Temp\7zEEEEtemp.\setup.exe
This system could not find the environment option entered.
Might someone be so kind as to help me please?
    Thank you,
    Leeflea.

  • Where does Internet Connect store its info?

I've managed to mess up my Internet Connect settings (which used to work fine, with VPNs etc. etc.). Fortunately I have a complete mirror backup of my disk from before this problem. I don't want to do a full restore; does anyone know if there's a file that stores the Internet Connect preferences and settings that I can just copy over?
    Mike

This sounds like a job for ~/Library/Preferences. And indeed, I have some files there with likely looking names, such as,
    com.apple.internetconfig.plist
    com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
    com.apple.internetconnect.plist
I don't know if these are the ones you need to recover. You could check there modified dates using Get Info; if the date(s) are about when you messed things up that would suggest maybe they are.
