Internet Connection Slow

I have a new iMac OS X (2 weeks old) that uses a DSL for the internet connection that runs extremely slow. Since purchasing, we have created three user accounts with two having separate iTunes accounts. We also purchased iWork 08, but no additional software has been installed.
Our internet connection is extremely slow when starting up and moving from one page to the next...just general internet surfing. I've heard that Safari is slow and to use Firefox, and I've also been told to "re-allocate" the memory to the internet....I'm not sure what that means though. 3
Is there an easy fix to speed up the internet, or should I take it back to the Apple store for help?

Usually one would first say to update or reload your network drivers, but I have never seen that work when both Ethernet and Wifi are having the same issue. I could be wrong though and you do have corrupt drivers. This would fix it.
If you have gone through the slow and painful elimination process of Solution 3 earlier and still nothing resolves it, you could always take the Noobs way out and reload Windows with your reset discs you should have burned already.
If Reloading Windows still does not solve this, then you must have a hardware issue on the board.
You could try disabling your wireless card (and remove it) and see if the Ethernet connection speeds up.
