Internet connection timer in menue bar?

Hello, I was looking for help to make my mac have a small picture of a phone with a small dial showing how long ive been on the net for, just like in the top right hand corner of this picture.. any reply would be VERY greatfully apprecited THANKS!!
*not actually picture of my mac...

I have just the opposite situation...
I just migrated from Tiger to Leopard. In Tiger the menu bar just showed the Airport signal. In Leopard it shows the signal icon and the connect time. I don't need to know the connect time on an "Always On" connection, and it's taking up some valuable Menu Bar real estate.
So, how do I keep the signal strength icon but not the connect time?

  • Date and time in menu bar

    Hi everyone,
I'm having a very silly problem that is driving me crazy. I found similar problems on this forum but not exactly the answer to them.
The "Show date and time in menu bar" checkbox System Preferences will not remain checked. I have checked it 50 times but every time I close it and go back it's unchecked.
Based on some suggestions on the forum I check the SystemUIServer in Activity Monitor and it's hanging (i.e. Not Responding). I tried force quitting and restarting but it doesn't get it going. Somehow I think these two problems are related.
I also tried deleting the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file under ~/Library/Preferences and logging out and back in to go back to system defaults on the menu bar but that didn't work either.
Alot of people solved similar problems by installing OS X 10.5.2 but I'm already running 10.5.2! I'm running out of ideas here.
    Any help is appreciated.

Excuse me, my interface is in Dutch and I literally translated the name.
Desktop and Screen saver I believe, select the menu for the screen saver.
There is a box you can tick, it will display the time when the screen saver is running.
It could be displayed like 3553 instead of the correct time.
If that is the case check in another user account, or make a new user account in Apple menu>System preferences>Accounts. Does the problem occur in the new account as well?

  • Date and Time on Menu Bar

Up until now the date and time has been displayed on the menu bar as...
    Tuesday, November 28, 2006 8:09 AM
Now, for some reason, it's being displayed as...
    Tue 8:09 AM
Here's what I've tried in trying to restore the format...
    1) System Preferences > Menu Bar Clock > Show Date and Time in Menu Bar
    2) Deleted the following preference files:
    com.apple.MenuBarClock.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
Does anyone know how I can restore the format?
    Thanks!
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   128 MB, 700 MHz PowerPC G4

It looks like there can be as little
as 6 or so characters between the two sets of
    icons
    That sounds low, especially in
the Finder, even at the lower screen resolutions. I
just played with stepping down resolutions on this
Mac, and various right-side icons (the CoreServices
eject.menu, Display, Classic, and sound icons, plus
    those from MenuMeters) disappeared
before the date and time (shown as "Tue 28 Nov, 04:00
PM" were affected (right-side menu items are
    truncated from left to right).
In my case, just the date disappeared. So instead of seeing...
    Tue November 28, 2006 5:43 PM
    ...I was seeing...
    Tue 5:43 PM
The icons to the left (on the right side icons) were still there and unaffected.
    What Display
    resolution do you normally use?
    It's set at 1024 X 768.
    Does the time&date
format go back to the expected form if you increase
resolution to maximum as a test? If the format
affected by starting up in Safe Mode?
After trying the remedy you reference in your previous post, the format is back to where it was so I won't be able to test it. But I guess you suspect that the Date and Time was truncated because there wasn't enough space between the left side and right side icons, is this right? It would seem like a logical explanation...

  • Show date and time in menu bar won't stay selected

Using 10.6.7 with all updates as of the time I am writing this.
Show date and time in menu bar is unselected and unselectable. When I select it (click it) it will unselect itself. I will see the checkmark for 1/2 a second, but won't stay selected.
I've reparied permissions in the Disk Utility as described by a similar post (on an older version of the OS) with no luck.
At a little bit of a loss. Spending the mandatory 30 minutes with various forms of Google searches with no luck.

What is dropping I guess is the question? Is it wireless? Is it your WAN connection? You need to identify where the problem is.
To do that you need to try a few things.
    1. If you use wireless then bypass it and use ethernet if that is possible.. even just drag things around so you can test if ethernet fixes it. If so and wireless is in fact the problem.. then you can do a few things.
    2. Wireless issues with the 7.6.4 firmware are common. Did you upgrade about the time the problems started? I am afraid the bad news is, downgrading is not like in the past where it fixed things.. 7.6.4 seems to have some permanent effect on the TC and it is never quite the same again. How this is even possible I have yet to determine.
The usual fix is factory reset.
Set wireless with short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Different name for 5ghz.
Make sure security is WPA Personal  with pure alphanumeric password of 8-20 characters.. unless you are more paranoid.
Fix the wireless channels and test in order. 11, 8, 6, 1
And for 5ghz try the lowest channel, 36 and then a high one, around 150.
    3. No improvement factory reset again.. downgrade to 7.6.1 or even 7.5.2 if it is an older Gen4 .. at 18months it might be old enough.. no harm trying. Factory reset again after the downgrade to see if we can get rid of the memory effect.. then try the above steps again.
No luck.. whatever the upgrade did it did permanently.. no fix is available until Apple pushes out a new firmware to fix what they did in the last one. Buy a different wireless router for now and use the TC in bridge just for TM backups.

  • How do I display ethernet connection is being used rather than WI-FI connection in the menu bar/elsewhere?

I have a new 13" retina MacBook Pro - I have wi-fi connection but also a thunderbolt/ethernet adapter that allows me to connect to my network
Sometimes, the ethernet connection does not connect and I do not notice for a while (possibly a dodgy TP-LINK plug adapter thingy)
My question is - how can I display that I am connected/using the ethernet connection rather than the wi-fi? The wi-fi symbol stays in the menu bar but it would be nice to see that I am using the ethernet connection instead
    Many thanks
    Mike

I don't think you can do that. You can only display the WiFi connection on the menu bar.

  • Time in menu bar and file timestamps aren't synched

I just returned from Europe and changed my time zone back to California time. This changed the time in my menu bar just fine. However, the timestamps for my files are all still stuck 9 hours ahead! This doesn't just apply to files I created in Europe; whenever I edit or create a new file, it stamps it with the wrong time zone. Does anyone know what other option I was supposed to change back?

  • Date & Time in menu bar problem

    Hi
OK, I cannot get my digital clock icon to display in the menu bar on top of desktop. I had it in the past but when I go to 'date & time' in system preferences, select box to click on it, and it will deselect itself somehow. End result, no digital clock in my menu bar.
    Any suggestions please???
    Thanks,
    Maree

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and enter /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/ as the folder's location; when this folder appears, double-click the item Clock or Clock.menu inside and see if it appears in the menu bar.
If the clock appears, enter ~/Library/Preferences into the Go to Folder prompt and move the file com.apple.systemuiserver.plist in that folder to the desktop. Try adding the clock again.
If the clock does not appear or the item doesn't exist, use Pacifist to extract Clock.menu from your Mac OS X installation disks and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X.

  • Adding Day, Month, Date,Year, Time to Menu BAR

My Menu bar now shows "Thu 9:14 PM". I want to change it to Day, Month, Year, and Time. I presume this is done by Apple>System Preferences>Language & Text>Formats>Customize, but I can't get any further, and the words "Type text and drag element to create a custm format" doesn't help. Type where? Drag from where? Drag to where?

Drag an element from the list below into eg the Short box and add text eg : instead of /. But I don't think this will give you what you want - go instead to Date & Time Preferences/Clock, and select Show the Date. But it won't give you the year.

We got wireless a few months ago, & my Mac will connect briefly, have fairly good download speed for a few minutes, then s-l-o-w down, & disconnect. • Internet Connection Time

I am using a VPN connection at University. The internet disconnects every 2 hours (must the time), but sometimes it will run continuously. I would prefer this continuous connection at times but can't work out how to set this. Can anyone help?

If it does always drop after two hours, that would be a server-side control. You'd need to talk to the VPN administrators about why it's there and how to change it.
On the other hand, if the connection sometimes remains active, that implies it's not a hard-set thing to drop the connection after 2 hours, but more coincidence.
It's more likely that the connection is set to drop after a period of inactivity. Are you actively using the connection when it drops? or have you moved onto other things.
If that is the case it might be as simple as creating some network traffic across the VPN to tickle the line and keep it active. There are numerous ways of doing this including a self-refreshing web page on a server in the remote network or a ping running in terminal.

  • Date & Time in menu bar not updating

My "Date & time" info in the top right menubar does not "run": it only updates to the current time when I click it.
I have it set as digital showing seconds but it just doesn't run, it's stuck on the last date/time I updated by clicking it.
    I never had this before
I use MacPro with Mac OS Lion 10.7.5
    Any reason?

@straycatcn, you're not the only one, no. I just starting having the same problem recently, and I'm not yet certain how to fix it. There are no errors that I can find in the console logs, and a reboot doesn't seem to fix the issue. Have you come up with a cause and/or solution?

  • Day, date and time in menu bar

    Hello:
New MacBook and new to Apple computers. I can get day of week and time of day to display, but would also like to have the date displayed. I've followed the directions, but date won't display. When I right click on the day/time, the entire display (Monday, February 11, 2008, for example) is displayed, but grayed-out. Does that mean that my MacBook, with Leopard, can't display day/date/time? Niggling issue, but if anyone has a solution, please respond.
