Internet Data Connection Screwy on 701

My Mobile Data connection only works IF i'm using an app that prompts me asking which connection I want to use. The default web browser, Opera Mini and Opera Mobile all give you that option so those appear to work ok.
But, Nokia Maps, Public Transport, Weather, Internet Radio, Nokia Store, etc. all will not work. I can sometimes get them to work if I open an app that prompts for web connection (such as the default web browser), then leaving that app open and launching one of the non-working apps so it kind of piggybacks off the initial connection.
The problem is only with the data connection, wifi works fine.
Am I missing a setting somewhere on my 701? This problem is driving me nuts.

I think I can tough it out till September, so I'll just learn to live with the flaky data connection till then. But if FP2 doesn't fix it, I guess I'll need to say goodbye to the 701 and probably Nokia's in general (don't like Windows Phone OS...too closed off for my taste).
I'm not sure what problem you experienced on wifi, but I can tell you I had wifi problems after the FP1 update. The 701 doesn't play nicely with some routers. On the one's that are giving you a problem, try this:
Admin setup page of router (mine is a Linksys WRT54GS). Once there, I enabled "Wireless QoS" and "WMM Support". After that, I had no problems using my home and office wifi. Good luck to you.

  • Does GPS use the internet data connection?

    Hi everyone,
I'll be using a German iPhone while traveling all over the world. The data connection is free within Germany (in other words, flat-rate internet) but quite expensive out of the country, 49 euro cents per 50kb block when I'm in the US, for example... I was hoping to use the GPS/map function a lot, but I'm afraid this will be expensive...
Does the GPS/map function actually use the internet connection, for which I'll be charged per 50kb block?
Or is GPS a separate kind of connection?
I was hoping to just casually surf the web while traveling on trains across the globe, but I guess that would be a very expensive pastime...
    Thanks!
    Alexandra

There is no charge for accessing GPS, but maps data is not stored locally on the iPhone. When using the Maps application, all maps data is downloaded from the internet - via an available wi-fi network you have access to, or via the cellular network. You can access GPS alone without a wi-fi or cellular connection, but it won't do you much good without any maps data.

  • Nokia 701 Losing Data Connection

I've had the 701 for almost a month and for the most part its worked very well. But a few days ago I noticed it was taking forever to connect to the internet. Often, it times out and says a connection cannot be made. This affects everything that is trying to use the internet - Email, Nokia Maps, Web, etc. Wifi works brilliantly. This is strictly a issue with initiating and maintaining a 3g connection.
A not-so-ideal solution i found is to open the web browser and wait to get a connection. This usually takes about 5 minutes to happen if it happens at all. Another interesting thing thats happening is after I finally do make a connection, and then close down the app accessing the internet, my 3G connection still shows as active. When in the past it did not.
Has anyone else run into this problem? And more importantly...is there a solution?

    Update
Did a hard reset of my 701 and that did not fix the problem.
This morning, I deleted all of the access points except for my 3G data. Since then I've had a very reliable data connection. But as soon as I introduce wifi access points, I lose all reliability for 3G. Sometimes I have data, sometimes I don't.
This is so odd, you'd think the reset would have fixed it. I don't see others on this forum with the same problem.
Is it possible this is a hardware issue?

  • How much Internet data does Creative Cloud send/receive when it connects?

For a number of reasons, the only Internet access that I have on my main computer (a desktop) is via my phone's mobile hotspot feature. Unfortunately, this means that I have a limited amount of data available. So, before I set up Creative Cloud on my computer, I'd like to verify that CC won't be using up all my data.
The programs that I'll be using are Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. My computer is a PC, if that makes any difference. Can anyone tell me: How much Internet data will these programs use for their routine connections?
Also, if I want to keep up-to-date on the updates, approximately how much additional data would that use?
    Thanks much.
P.S. I may not be able to access the Internet at all on my computer for several months. (I'd be transferring documents to and from the computer using a flash drive.) If this happens, will I be able to continue using my CC programs?

    Hi CarlaDee,
I think downloading apps and updates will be the most data intensive. With the yearly plan the service would need to do a license check every 99 days. I'd recommend using the trial to get a sense of the bandwidth usage.

  • Can't get an internet connection or date connection on my brand new Razr m

Just bought a Droid Razr M today, can't get a connection for internet or date, anyone?

        Hi there Jrzyrdneck23,
It's super important to have data connection and the date on any smartphone! I'm so sorry you've run into this difficulty.
I would recommend powering the device off and removing/reinsterting the sim card. This will attempt a reactivation of the sim.
You should also be sure the phone and sim card are activated on the correct phone number and that you're in direct Verizon Wireless coverage.
If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to let us know!
    Thanks,

  • WSDL Data connection not working - SAP Interactive Forms(Adobe Based)

    Greetings,
I am trying to explore the features of Adobe based forms in SAP (WAS 6.4) and have been trying to create an interactive form.
I am trying to use the WSDL file Data Connection but with no success. This is what I have been doing, starting with a blank form in the "Layout" tab,
       - In the "Data View", created a "New Data Connection".
       - Selected "WSDL file" Option.
       - Browsed to and selected the desired WSDL file.
       - Selected the WebService Option listed (Only one in my case).
The WebService in this case is programed to "Request" two numbers and "Response" back the sum. (This was just for trial).
    - The connection subsequently appeared in the "Data View".
       - Expanded the "Request" and "Response" trees and dragged the elements to the "Body Page" screen.
       - Dragged the Data Connection Button to the screen.
       - On the Properties of the Button, Went to the "Object" tab and then to the "Execute" tab.
       - Checked "Re-Merge Form Data" and Run at "Client and Server"
       - Generated the PDF Preview
       - On the preview, entered the values for the "Requested" fields and clicked the button. It displays the error message "Couldn't post data to ".
This was my long story, but with this background, what I want to know is:
       - How do i get it to work, I expected to see the sum in the field.
       - What is meant by running at "Client or Server".
We do use a proxy server to connect to the Internet.
As a bottom line, I intend to make an interactive form with which I can display real-time transactional data on the form from our R/3 46C server based on a user input on the form itself (eg: PO info on entering of PO number on the form output itself)
    Best Regards,
    Sanyam Kapur

    Hi Sanyam,
Looking for messages with zero reply I have found yours.
Even if it is some time ago, when you posted the message, I would like to give some hints here:
Web Dynpro does not allow to access data coming directly from a Web Service and display it within a pdf file. You need to create a Web Service modell first. Then you would bind the InteractiveForm property to the context and the data can be shown.
    Hope that helps.
    Best regards,
    Karin

  • Use Mobile Data For: Settings - Why does Settings need a cellular data connection?

    iPhone 5 iOS 8.1
Settings > Mobile > Use Mobile Data For: Settings
Just curious, why does the iPhone need this turned on? Why does the settings app need a cellular mobile data connection?
If you turn it off, you're pestered to turn it on every time you go into settings?

Because, that's the way Siri works...it needs an Internet connection...requests are sent to Apple's servers. No Internet, no Siri.

  • Is there a way to selectively put on and off your data-connection(3G)?

    Hi there!
I'm currently working on an app that uses GPS to track a person's location, this location is than in turn send to an online database.
Obviously sending that location to the database requires an internet connection, I could use WIFI for that which is no issue but what if there's no WIFI available, if that's the case I want to use the phone's 3G data connection.
Since I only need that connection for a short period(just to send the location to the database) I think it's rather dumb to put it on when opening the app and keeping it on as long as the app is running.-->It would quickly drain the available data memory.
So my question is, is there a way to put the 3G connection ON and OFF in code? So the app would have the rights to do that.
To clarify: Suppose whenever I track a person's location(every 5 minutes for example --> that's sufficient for my app even though it doesn't seem so useful) I want to put on the 3G connection to send the location to the database.
The following 5 minutes however I've no need of that internet connection since no communication with the Database is required so I would want to put the 3G connection off then.
    -->Is this possible?
    Thanks in advance!
    My best regards
    Jan

There is no way to turn on and off the phones 3g connection via code.

  • Slow/non-existent data connection on 3GS/iOS 4.0.1

I have been a happy 3GS user since last December. About three days ago, I synced to iTunes and installed the latest software update, to iOS v4.0.2. Since then, whenever I try to access any web page in Safari, it just sits there for a while trying to access the page before eventually coming up with a message that it was unable to access the web page "because the server stopped responding". The same happens if I try to use the data connection via another app (e.g. Facebook). I should add that everything works fine if I connect via WiFi.
I did manage to get on the web yesterday evening when I was in a city centre area with five bars of 3G signal strength, but even then it took ages to load a web page. I have always had between about two and four bars of signal strength at home, and this has always been sufficient to load web pages reasonably quickly.
I usually use the 3G data connection several times a day, and have never experienced this problem until now. I've just got off the phone with O2 technical support – they asked me first to reset network settings and then reset all settings, but neither of these made any difference. They left me with two suggestions: go to an o2 store and ask them to try my SIM card in a different handset (I don't have much faith in this working), or do a factory reset/restore via iTunes. I'm loathe to do this unless absolutely necessary, as I guess it means losing all my data and having to resync everything from scratch.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Any suggestions other than what the o2 guy said? Is there any way I can get back to 4.0.1, which worked fine?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

Wow, our responses are starting to get long.

It's a pity he didn't (or wouldn't) change the SIM. It probably took him longer to explain to you that he didn't need to test the SIM that it would have take to set up a new SIM and test it.
So unfortunately, you still don't know for certain that it's not a SIM issue.
I agree it's a pity. I really wanted to be eliminate this as a possible cause, but I couldn't make the guy do it.
Maybe try another store, or do it over the phone and get them to send you one out?
I did a full restore – and incidentally discovered that the backup I made before applying the 4.0.2 OS update was not available to restore – I'm guessing it may have been corrupted or something. So I've had to revert to a backup that was saved in June, which is a bit of a pain. Anyway, the restore has changed nothing in terms of connectivity – with 3 bars of 3G signal, no web page will load – I just get the spinner in the status bar at the top of the screen, and eventually a message saying that the server has stopped responding.
Did you restore to 'new' or tried to the backup? You need to try it to 'new' as this erases all previous settings.
I restored it to the backup. I guess I need to restore it to new – which is a pain because it means I then have to manually reset any settings for mail accounts, etc.
You need the restore to 'new' so you have a clean phone, test in internet connection with nothing added and see what happens.
Personally I don't particularly like the way iTunes backs up. It's probably fine when this are all good, but when testing or trying to fix issues, I find it a bit limited.
    All the Backups on your Mac go to this location;
    /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The issue I have with it is that in the backup folder, some of the files are overwritten each time that a backup occurs, making only the last backup available for restoring.
Yes, I find that pretty annoying to. I've just lost two months' worth of text message history because of it.
My work around for this is to copy the complete backup folder then in the copied folder I open the Info.plist file with TextEdit and edit the Device Name string by adding the date. When you then open iTunes and try to restore from backup, multiple backups are displayed.
You said you copy the entire folder before editing the Info.plist file. I presume you put the copied folder in the same location as the original?
In the backup folder, there is a folder with a big long alphanumeric name. Make a duplicate of this and leave it in the backup folder, so there is the original folder and copy of original folder. then edit the info file in the duplicate.
Once done, open itunes without the phone connected and go to iTunes > Preferences > devices and you should see your extra backup appear in the list there.
When you edit the info file change the following line:
    +<key>Display Name</key>+
    + <string>[robgrayson]’s iPhone 20100511</string>+
I add a date at the end of the line. This line is then displayed in iTunes as the name of the backup
I also set iTunes to not automatically sync when the iphone is connected. This give the control back to me of when and how often I backup.
Yes, I changed this setting yesterday too.
Do you use Time Machine to back up your Mac? If so, you could restore the backup location on your Mac to before you did the restore and bring back you most recent backup that way.
Yes, I do use TM – I've been using it for a couple of years but have never actually had to restore anything. Just to be clear, I suppose you mean restore the backup folder from before I did the iOS upgrade, and then restore my phone from that?
How about this: if I do a restore from new first and see if that makes any improvement, do I then have an option of applying a dated backup (or would I have to go through the whole restore process again in order to do so)?
Yes, Navigate to the backup folder location, open time machine and restore to yesterday or when ever the last back was.
Duplicate the backup as above as a precaution.
Check iTunes recognises it. (make sure iTunes is closed when you are adjusting the backup files.
Restore to 'new' and check the phone. If it all is OK and working, its probably something in the backup and you don't want it back on your phone, and you will have to manually restore everything.
So unfortunately, you don't seem to be any closer to resolving the issue. Let us know if you want any more help, or alternately how you go with Apple.
I may try restoring from a previous backup via Time Machine, as you suggested. (This should also give me back my lost text messages.) There are also rumours that iOS 4.1 will be released today, so I may give that a try first.
Thanks once again for your very helpful suggestions.
If I were you, I would try to get the phone working before you worry about 4.1

  • URGENT HELP NEEDED!!! No data connectivity after a while, weird errors

I am using T-Mobile's regular prepaid web plan and Wi-Fi just fine, no need for BIS, Rich Email, or BBM (SMS and MMS is just fine). All I ever use are apps that SPECIFICALLY state that they work over standard TCP/IP and Wi-Fi. The problem is, after some time, the apps that one worked over regular data connections and MMS don't connect anymore. Even though the apps said that no BIS is needed, they can't access data. Even RIM's own Facebook app, which claims to work over Wi-Fi (and does) loses data connectivity after a day or so without a full reboot. The only thing that works is the BlackBerry Browser, which still connects to the internet. Along with the apps failing to work, MMS messages also can't be sent.
Rebooting the phone by a battery pull or alt-shift-delete allows the apps and MMS to work, which after a day (sometimes even shorter) stops working again.
Here's what I've done so far:
    - Checked and made sure that all permissions for data access
    - Checked that my APN settings are correct: epc.tmobile.com
    - Checked my Wi-Fi router for connectivity
    - Called  T-Mobile tech support for help, wiped my phone upon their instruction
    - Reinstalled my apps and contacts, T-Mobile sent me new service books
Still the SAME THING with apps and MMS not working after a while. I've narrowed it down to entries in the event log that show up as this, which shows up seconds before my apps and MMS stop working:
    a net.rim.hrtRT - PUpI - 9/23 17:06:58
    a net.rim.hrtRT - EPdp 0x3 - 9/23 17:06:58

Can any experts or developers tell me what these Warnings and Errors mean? I am pretty sure that whatever "net.rim.mdp" and "net.rim.hrtRT" is doing isn't good.

    anyone care to help???
Also, on the 18th I wiped my phone again, and three days later (longest time with no mdp error) the same error occurred in the event log, no internet connectivity afterwards on Wi-Fi or Mobile Network...

Won't insult you by suggesting that you haven't already checked Settings > mobile network > Data connection = On, as you have confirmed already that Internet Sharing is working.
You may need to go to Settings > about > reset your phone and see if by setting up phone afresh it reads settings and applies correctly from SIM card.
Is Network Setup application included or available from Marketplace > Nokia Collection as might be worth running this application too?
If this issue still remains you may need to have device software re-installed at Nokia Care Point to try to resolve this.

  • Can't i use xml schema and oledb data connection at the same time?

Hello to all and thanks in advance.I use xml schema and oledb data connection at the same time and the problem is that when I try to export the xml, the outcome is not what i expect.Without the oledb connection everything is ok (just the schema) and the xml complies with the schema.
Can't i have both schema and oledb and the exported xml be as i want it?

You can use both at the same time, but not gor Internet access if that's what you're asking.
Now there is a thing called Link Aggregation, which combines a number of interfaces for speed/redundancy, but it really only works locally, and then only with ALL special equipment in the route, and most likely OSX Server involved.
    Sorry.

  • How to execute the Code-Behind of .aspx linked using XML Data Connection

I have a dashboard with a live XML Data Connection tied to a Default.aspx file.  That .aspx file has a Default.aspx.vb code-behind file tied to it with some logic in the Page_Load sub routine.  If i open the .aspx on my own in the browser, the code-behind executes properly.
However, when I tie the .aspx to my dashboard and launch it I know for a fact the .aspx is being called (i have a placeholder on the dashboard to let me know if it executed or not) but its code-behind file is not.  I can't seem to find a solution through Google, would anyone be able to lead me in the right direction with this?  My code is as follows:
    Default.aspx
    <%@ Page Language="vb" aspcompat="true" Debug="true" validaterequest="false" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.vb" Inherits="scheduleAppointment._Default" %>
    <%
'tester to see that script executes, this puts "ScriptExecuted" on a label on my dashboard
        Dim sXML As String
        sXML = "<data><variable name=" + Chr(34) + "Range_0" + Chr(34)
                      + "><row><column>ScriptExecuted</column></row></variable></data>"
        Response.Write(sXML)
    %>
    Default.aspx.vb
    Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop
    Partial Public Class _Default
        Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
(I have code here creating a Microsoft Outlook appointment and saving/scheduling it. This is not being
executed when running the dashboard itself, but I know the code works if I run the .aspx on my own
                 in Internet Explorer browser)
        End Sub
    End Class

Easy fix, apparently code-behind doesn't execute in Preview mode.  Exported to .swf and ran in the Internet Explorer browser and it worked.

  • Voice vs. Data Connectivity

It's a fact of life calls get dropped on cellular networks. My questions concern the relationship of dropped voice calls vs. dropped data calls. I have yet to read anything, anywhere mentioning a distinction between the two by users of the AT&T network. Is it safe to assume most people are complaining about dropped voice calls? If a data connection is lost will it attempt to re-connect itself?
AT&T has only recently offered service in my area but I intend on using my yet-to-be-purchased iPhone nationally and internationally. Internet access outside of cities and form factor of the iPhone are more important to me than making voice calls.

Not to be argumentative but this isn't correct.
When your iPhone says 3G it means that it is using UMTS (W-CDMA) for both Voice and Data connections. This is a very different protocol and works over different frequencies than GSM.
When your iPhone says EDGE then it is using the GSM network for Voice on a GSM Cell that supports EDGE specific data enhancements to increase data throughput over normal GSM data (GPRS).
Finally when your iPhone doesn't say EDGE or 3G then it is on a GSM Cell that doesn't support the EDGE data enhancements.
So really the 3G iPhone has to choose between two different Cellular technologies, 2G (GSM) or 3G (UMTS) and the device can't communicate on both of these technologies at the same time.
Have a read of the wiki pages for more information:
    UMTS (WCDMA): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WCDMA
    GSM: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM
    Hope this clears things up.
