Internet disconnects for no reason needs reboot.

My modem is connected my Airport router shows green and works with all but my Lion computers. I have to reboot the iMac to connect to Internet or Mail. Happens at least once a  week.

Hello thewcloner. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) from getting a good clean signal from the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like MacStumbler or iStumbler to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.

  • Modem disconnect for no reason and when I get phone calls constantly

Out of nowhere  or when I get a phone call, my modem would just randomly disconnect for no reason. Sometimes it disconnects a few times during an hour or back to back once I get internet back on, it goes out sometimes it doesn't for hours. It can get very frustrating if I'm doing some important only to realize it got disconnected and my work might be lost. My modem is a WESTELL Model: E90-610015-06
I have went through the modem combo and when I try to enter the user name and password, it will not allow me to get in. I depend on the internet for business and my daughter depends on it for college work. What can be done? In addition, this has been constantly since this pass weekend. It started on Friday.
    Thank You

Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from the Westell? Visit http://192.168.1.1/for me and do the following:
1: If you see a Blue and White Westell page, mouse over Troubleshooting, go to DSL, and choose Transceiver Statistics. Copy/Paste the information on that page.
2: Go to System Monitoring > Advanced Monitors > Transceiver Statistics. Copy/Paste the information on that page.
3: Try visiting http://192.168.1.1/transtat.htm which is a direct link to the Stats on older modems.
If you need a Username and Password, try the following:
    admin/password
    admin/password1
    admin/admin
    admin/admin1
    admin/Serial Number.
By Serial Number, I don't mean type in the words Serial Number. I mean find and type in the serial number found on the bottom of this rou

  • HT1338 my wireless keyboard keeps disconnecting for no reason, I press the side button and it connects again.  Frustrating.

My wireless keyboard keeps disconnecting for no reason.  Frustrating especially when you are going full on and nothing there.  I press the button on the side and it connects again.  Happening more frequently.  Purchased in March.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.

I just have to ask, Is the battery due to be replaced by any chance?
    Hope this helps

  • Frequent internet disconnects for over a year

I have been suffering frequent disconnects from the internet for over a year. Each disconnect lasts for up to two minutes, rarely longer. Sometimes the disconnects have been as frequent as thirty or more times per hour. Sometimes I have no problems for many days.
I'm using HH5 and have Infinity 2 with a typical speed of circa 60mbps. Speed isn't an issue but the frequent disconnects are a pain. BT Broadband support have been unable to see the disconnects happening. As far as they are concerned, the line is fine.
If the disconnect happens when I'm using Google Chrome, I get a status message "Resolving Host" in the bottom left and, after a short delay, a screen appears saying "This webpage is not available. DNS Probe Finished. No Internet." Other devices, including BTTV, either give a message to the effect that there is no internet connection or just "hang". As far as I can tell, all devices, whether wired or wireless, 2.4GHz or 5GHz,, disconnect simultaneously.
I have tried disconnecting every device from the hub except the BTTV and the disconnects still happen.
BT have checked the line countless times, sent an engineer to my house, replaced my home hub three times, I have replaced all cables, replaced the phone/broadband socket, done countless resets etc all to no avail. The HH5 lights don't change colour when the internet connection drops.
After checking the BTCare Community Forums and discovering the event log in the HH5 I discovered that, when the disconnects occur, an "IN: BLOCK [16]..." message appears in the event log for the Firewall of the hub. At the end of this message I have copied a 12 hour firewall event log from today. Every "IN: BLOCK [16]..." event seems to coincide with an internet disconnect so that amounts to circa 40 disconnects in the past 12 hours.
What are these "IN: BLOCK [16]..." messages and why does my internet connection drop every time one of these messages appears? I checked the IP addresses for some of these "IN: BLOCK [16]..." messages. The first IP address in each message I checked was in China. The second IP address for each event I checked is BT in Boston, UK. My suspicion is that the BT server is logging me out every time one of these "IN: BLOCK [16]" events occurs. Logging back into the server then takes up to two minutes and, in the meantime, I have no internet connection.
BT Broadband support in India say that there is nothing they can do to address these internet dropout issues. They can only deal with line or hub faults. Their only suggestion was to disable the firewall on my HH5 but, given all these potential attacks from Chinese IP addresses, I refused to do this.
BTW, the HH5 IP address ending in 65 is my BTTV box.
    I'd be grateful for any help and advice to resolve this issue. Here is the Firewall event log;

Ectophile - thank you for your reply. I tried the quiet line test and the line sounds good. There's no crackle or static. Just a very faint hiss if I turn the volume on my handset up full.
I've had three replacement hubs in the last year or so and they have made no difference to the frequency of the internet drop-outs.
The only fault that has been detected in all of this time was back in January when BTTV 2nd line support in the UK establish a link with my PC and monitored the connection. (They had a lot of difficulty establishing this connection and they were convinced I had no internet connection even though I did at that point). As a result of this monitoring and other testing, they diagnosed a very brief, intermittent drop out in the fibre-optic link between the surface box and the exchange. The 2nd line support engineer commented that this was a very strange fault because the fibre-optic connection normally either works or it doesn't.
He called out a BT engineer to investigate the fibre fault. This engineer told me that he had "reset" the fibre-optic link at the surface box. Having done this, he couldn't find a fault so visited my house, undertook line checks, replaced my HH4 with a HH5, checked out all wiring, tested the socket etc monitored for 20 minutes, couldn't find any further fault and left. The problems have continued however and BT India support just keep running their standard line tests and finding no fault.
I tried running a repeating ping test today using a tool called “WinPing”. I was using my BT email server for the ping test. The ping was set to 1 second intervals with the time-out set to a high level of 3000ms. I wasn’t using the internet at the time so I have no idea whether there is any correlation between the "timed-out" and/or slow response pings and the internet drop-outs that I have been suffering.
    The eight and a half hour test gave an average ping time of 45ms but there was a lot of variability;
    101 pings "timed-out" without a response (>3000ms).
    6 pings were between 2000ms and 2999
    23 pings were between >1500ms and 1999ms
    87 pings were between 1000ms and 1499ms
    139 pings were between 500ms and 999ms
    66 pings were between 250ms and 499ms
    428 pings were between 50ms and 249ms
    680 pings were between 40ms and 49ms
    12,296 pings were between 32ms and 39ms
There were no periods of more than a few seconds where WinPing couldn’t ping the server so this test doesn’t explain why I get the frequent drop-outs of up to 2 minutes unless perhaps the problem is caused by short drop-outs causing my connection to reset? The message I get on my Laptop / Google Chrome when the internet connection drops-out is a “Resolving Host” message at the bottom left and, after a short delay, a screen appears saying "This webpage is not available. DNS Probe Finished. No Internet." Other devices come back with various message to the effect that there is no internet connection, even though the HH5 light remains blue.
Do the ping test results indicate any particular issue or are these results normal?

  • Whenever backup starts, Internet disconnects, for a while!

I notice that after upgrade 7.7.1 on the Airport Time Capsule 802.11ac, whenever a time machine backup starts on any Mac, the Internet connection disconnects for all Mac and iOS devices, at least for a minute.
But the ADSL2+ modem is still connecting to Internet without disruption.  Airport Utility shows Internet disconnection until a few minutes after the Internet connection re-established.
    Any explantion or similar experience?

The new AE and TC use a broadcom SOC .. that means it is a full processor and router on a single chip. .it runs at 1100mhz.. ARM based. A9 core.
The previous Generation TC and AE ran a Maxell processor of 1200mhz.. and actually was faster at least on the disk transfer side.
See ifixit for the breakdown of the TC and AE so you can see the processor.

This links to the AE as well.
You can also see the review of the AE Gen6 here.. as well as earlier versions if you set the charts to show earlier hardware.

    cf Gen5 AE http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/31564-apple-airport-ext reme-gen-5-reviewed
The new version products are much closer now to the standard AC routers by dlink and Asus than previous ones.. which were more NAS design.

  • IPhone connects and disconnects for no reason.

My iPhone 4 and iPhone 5s won't stay connected to my new (Jan. 2015) Macbook Pro Retina 13". It will continuously connect and disconnect from the computer (not physically). What can/should I do? Is this a hard drive/motherboard issue? I have tried multiple chords and phones and the only one that stayed connected was my iPhone 3.

Could it be the text message reminder? It beeps twice (after the original time) to remind you.

  • Power cord disconnected, then internet disconnects.

Hi guys. I didn't see other posts with this problem, so I hope I don't repeat.
Whenever my powercord is accidentally knocked off the computer's terminal, my internet disconnects for a few seconds. When I don't plug it back in, my wireless cuts out every few minutes. When its plugged back in, its fine.
    I've updated everything.
    Thanks!

    Problem still persists. Anyone????

Hello .. I've been subscribed for ic;oud for 20$ per year and I found it useless for many reasons: that I can not disconnect my mobile while the uploading process and it takes long time for uploading my data .. Its not a reliable system that's why I need to deactivate the space service and take my money back .. Thanks

The "issues" you've raised are nothing to do with the iCloud service.
No service that uploads data allows you to disconnect the device you are uploading from while uploading data. Doing so would prevent the upload from completing. It is a basic requirement for any uploading service that you remain connected to it for uploading to be possible.
The time it takes to upload data to iCloud is entirely dependent on how fast your Internet connection is, and how much data you are uploading. Both of these things are completely out of Apple's control. Whichever upload service you use will be affected by the speed of your Internet connection.

  • I just bought a new Motorola modem. Do I need to reconfigure my Airport Express? For some reason we have WiFi even though the amber light is blinking.

I just bought a new Motorola modem. Do I need to reconfigure my Airport Express? For some reason we have WiFi even though the amber light is blinking.

Typically, when changing out networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power reset of all of your networking equipment.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

I have been trying to download java for my macbook pro, but for some reason the function is not recognizing the internet.  I am on and have checked several times .... I have checked through both safari and firefox but to no avail.  Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Not really a reply just some added info:
This is the error message I get saying the internet is not on, but clearly as I can send this message it has to be:
To open “Java Preferences,” you need to install a Java runtime, but you are not connected to the Internet.
I am connected through Wi-fi if that makes a difference.

  • HELP ! ! ! - Modem disconnects for no apparent reason and won't reconnect

HELP!!! My modem has been disconnecting for no apparent reason and then when I try to reconnect, it will seem to start the process, and then switch to "Disconnecting . . ." which will then run without an apparent end until I restart the computer. On Tue. and Wed. it dropped the connection promptly at about 6:45. Thursday it dropped at about 8:15. Please help me with this. I don't like having to do a restart in the middle of my work!

Mail accounts have two separate sets of credentials and settings.  One set of credentials for inbound (receiving) mail and also used for accessing any mail you've saved on your ISP mail server — POP or IMAP is used for that — and one set for outbound (sending) email messages out — SMTP is used for that.
Your outgoing email settings are likely incorrect; here is Apple's support document (TS3276)
You can use the Connection Doctor (Mail.app Window > Connection Doctor) to get (and show details) but your description certainly seems that your outbound (SMTP) settings — server name, port, username, password, whether SSL/TLS is disabled (unlikely) or enabled (likely) — don't match what your mail ISP requires.
In Mail.app, the inbound (POP or IMAP) mail account settings are easy to find.  Mail.app Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information.  The sending (SMTP)Nsettings are buried, and you have to select the inbound (POP or IMAP) settings (Mail.app Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information) and then switch the Outbound SMTP Server pop-up setting to its Edit SMTP Server List setting, and you'll get a whole different set of settings shown.  Select the SMTP server for your ISP from the list, and then edit the settings to match the requirements.
I unfortunately can't tell you what the settings need to be, because the required settings can and do differ by ISP.

  • My Xbox 360 keeps disconnecting for no apparent reason

I have a linksys WRT120N, and comcast internet. It worked fine for about a month or so, and now over the last 4 days, i'll get booted from Xbox Live for no reason at all every 10-20 minutes, without any lag. One moment the game is running fine and the next i'm disconnected.
I have the 360 wired to the modem, as well as my desktop. the desktop doesn't have any disconnect issues at all, and i can immediately resign in to XBox Live. i've done the port forwarding, updated my firmware, my NAT is open and checked my MTU, and none of it helps. XBL works perfectly if i have it plugged directly into my modem.
please help, this is driving me crazy!

Whats the MTU size you have setup on your Router? The MTU size on your Router should be set to 1365. Since you have updated the firmware on your Router, have you resetted your Modem and re-configured all the settings on it again? If not then, Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

I have (sorry forgot to add that). I was switched around and finally I was told I would be put through to a supervisor but after being on hold for about 10 minutes the phone went dead, I did not lose connection so I do not know if I was hung up on or there was some technical difficulty. I called again yesterday and did in fact speak with a supervisor for Account Security but he told me he did not know why it was happening and put me through to a different number but that ended up not being any helpful either. That's when I decided to give it a shot on here!
