Internet Doesn't Do Nights

I can't figure out why, from around 7 pm to 6 am, my Safari internet connection fails. I get the message that says "You are not connected to the internet". All other times, not having done anything different, it's fine. Though I am not particularly computer savvy, I follow directions pretty well. Help!
Lucius

Good Morning Lucius and Welcome.
Which version of Safari are you using? Also, I notice your not up to date with your OSX.
Tiger 10.4.11 is required to run the current Safari update 3.1.2.
Check your Systems updates and update to Tiger 10.4.11 first.

  • Got M-Cell that gives 5 bars, got full-strenth wifi, Internet on phone doesn't work, any app that uses internet doesn't work, seems like its started when upgraded to 7.1.1

I have an AT&T M-Cell that gives 5 bars, got full-strenth wifi. Same wi-fi that my computer uses, that my Kindle uses.  So not capacity issue. but my Internet on phone drops out continuously and frequently, any app that uses internet doesn't work at all. It seems like it started when I upgraded to 7.1.1  I have connectivity like crazy, so why doesn't the internet work?

Reboot your router by powering it down for 30-60 seconds.

  • Files deleted from the Library and now internet doesn't work?

    Hello,
I'm new here and this is probably going to sound dumb but... my father deleted some files from the Library by mistake and now internet doesn't work in his computer. Everything seems normal, but the webpages don't load (we tried lots of pages and 3 browsers). If you try to update any software it can't connect to the internet either.
He reinstalled the system (it's Mountain Lion, I think) but it didn't worked (it was a partial reinstallation, without losing the data). He also tried restarting and pressing CMD-R but nothing happened.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Thank you so much in advance! (and sorry for any typos, English is not my native language)

Hello Eleone, & a warm Welcome!
So what exactly isn't working or any messages you get?
    Does Mail still work?
    Might try this...

    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222

Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • I am connected to wifi but Internet doesn't work.

I am connected to wifi but Internet doesn't work. Software updated and settings reset. Still no luck. I pod touch

Despite the connection indication you may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. To check on this go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address shown starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix for this can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

    Hi, KK93.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of the router and Mac can resolve the issue.  However, try the steps in the article below to troubleshoot the Wi-Fi issue with your MacBook.

  • Iphone says 4G but internet doesn't work

My iphone has full bars and 4G icon but my internet has no connection.

The phone is about one year old.  I can make and receive calls.  I noticed this problem about a month ago. Once I have WiFi connection, internet works fine.  It's really annoying when the phone says 4G (internet connection), but internet doesn't work.  If the AT&T network is not available, why does my iphone say 4G?  Thanks

  • So I forgot to pay my bill; once i did, the internet doesn't connect.

So i forgot to pay my bill. I payed it the same day but now my internet doesn't connect!

Need to talk to AT&T about that. This is apple and they don't have anything to do with the carrier.

  • Internet slows down at night to less than 1Mbs, poor customer service

I'm having the same problem. I had originally 1-3 Mbps (Oct 2008 - Jan 2012). It used to work fine but then the speed seems to be slowing down as years passed by, I was getting less than 1Mbps most of the time so I upgraded to 3-7Mbps with 2 years holding period (Jan 2012 to Jan 2014). From Jan 2012 to Nov. 2012 it was fine, then starting Dec. 2012, the internet started to slow down at night. I'm getting 6-7Mbps during daytime and until around 9pm, then the internet slows down to less than 1Mbps after 9pm. Then starting mid January 2013, the situation seems to get worst, the internet slows down starting around 7pm, and then on the 3rd wk of January, the internet started to slow down as early as 5pm.
I've contacted the customer service twice. First, the person who attended remotely accessed my computer and after more than 15 minutes trying to find fault at my computer, wiring, set-up or wireless router (instead of the verizon network), he realized he doesn't have any excuses and instead instructed me to hard reset the modem. I told him that if I hard reset the modem, he will be disconnected to my computer. He said, "that's fine, I will call you you to give instruction on how to set-up the modem". After I have hard reset the modem, he never called up and I was left all by myself figuring out how to set-up the modem. I've contacted the customer service the 2nd time, a different person attended and exactly the same thing happened, the guy instructed me to hard reset the modem but never called up after he got disconnected. I guess this is their expertise, how to rudely leave the communication once they figure out that they can't resolve the problem.
Once the 2 years holding period is over, I will change to other internet provider and will never switch back to verizon again. I will never ever recommend verizon to my friends and will share them my experience with verizon.

This is one of the reasons we are leaving Verizon as well.  We previously left Brighthouse because the initial deal sounded great, until the rebates expired.  When the price jacked up, I told them they had to better because Brighthouse was much less expensive for the same package but their service didn't slow down at 7pm.  The customer service agent said I really couldn't compare the two because Verizon has a superior quality of service.  I asked, "Then why does my internet slow down around 7pm, because the Brighthouse service didn't do that".  All the customer service agent has to say was, "That's not true."  Nice try.  He essentially called me a liar, about something I've seen firsthand, and I have experienced that same 7pm slowdown with a similar service we had in NC.  Sorry Verizon, we left Brighthouse because we thought we were saving a few bucks, and getting a higher speed on our internet.  Not true on both accounts and we're going back.    PS To the person who made this initial blog post, I noticed there were 484 views but no "likes"  - it's because that button won't let you click it, at least that's what I experienced on my end.  I'm certain there are a lot more people out there who deal with this same issue and are quite frustrated.

  • My MacBook isn't connecting to the Internet. When I try to connect, it shows the signal strength in the top right corner as if it was connected, but the Internet doesn't work. When I go to my network preferences, it says the ip is self-assigned.

My MacBook won't connect to the Internet, but it's connected to my router. When I go to network preferences, it says that it has a self assigned ip address, and can't connect to the Internet. How can I fix this? Please help!

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

  • IMac - internet doesn't work

I took delivery of a brand new 21.5" iMac a week ago. When it first arrived the internet was fine - then intermittently it started to go slow or just fail to load pages even though I could see it was connected to the router and had full signal strength. The problems gradually got worse and I'm now at the point where I have to turn the Wi-Fi on the mac off, then on again for each page I try to load. I know this is an issue with the mac because all other devices in my house that rely on the Wi-Fi are working fine. I've browsed a few message boards and can see that this seems to be a common issue but no one has a solution to it. Is this something I can fix myself or is it a hardware problem?

Hi, I didn't get it sorted exactly. I seem to have stumbled on a fix and I think the issue might be to do with the compatibility between my old router and new mac. If I were to make an educated guess based on the problems I've had and what others have described I'd say this is a software problem with the new OS - maybe it's just a little bit incompatible with certain routers?
I've been in contact with apple support a lot over the last 10 days and I'd just like to ay that despite not finding a fix they have been really helpful. One of the senior guys let me know that because I'd reported the issue that he would let the after sales team know if I wanted to swap the Mac, even though I'd gone over the 14 days (I'd probably be pushing my luck if I asked them to honour that now though).
    So, what we tried was;
Solution 1: rename the config file, reboot the system so the config settings are reset. This worked for a few hours until the problem resurfaced then gradually got worse.
Solution 2: reinstall the OS - again this worked for a while, before gradually getting worse again.
Solution 3: Open Network Preferences, use the minus key to delete all internet connections then set up the Wi-Fi again - didn't help.
Solution 4: set up a new admin user, sign in there and see if the problem occurs. Again same thing, this worked for a number of hours before the problem crept back. I do find it a bit weird how the fixes seem ok for a while then it just gradually dies.
Trying the troubleshooting basically narrowed it down to a problem with the router or the Mac. So I took the Mac to my Dad's flat where he has BT Infinity with a fairly new modem and router. The internet seemed fine there - it was faster (as expected) and didn't drop out at all. My only worry is that I only had one night to test it there, so I can't guarantee after a weeks usage the same thing might not happen there also.
Not wanting to have to buy a new router I did try something which for now seems to have worked quite well and now I get internet connectivity for a good day or two, before there's a bit of a wobble but I repeat the same troubleshooting process and it works fine again. This is what I did:
Alt click on the Wi-Fi icon on the menu bar.
    Select 'Open Wireless Diagnostics...'
Don't press continue in the box that opens, but instead select 'Window' from the menu bar, then 'Scan'.
In the box that opens up hit 'Scan Now' and check the numbers next to Best 2.4GHz.
Next - type in your routers IP address in Safari to access it's settings. I found the IP for mine by google searching the router on my iPhone and downloading the instructions.
    Access the wireless settings.
Configure the channel that the router is using so it matches one of the numbers that was shown next to Best 2.4GHz.
I also changed the interface type to 802.11g (seemed to be the best my router had) and the WPA-PSK to WPA2. Also check that the router firmware is up to date.
Finally open up Spotify and play victory tune of your choice.
Whenever the Wi-Fi has a bit of a wobble I just switch the channels once or twice and it seems to come back to life.
The router I'm using is a really old Speedtouch 585 all in one. It's been reliable though and I've never had problem like this with any other devices. I'd be interested to know what other people are using. I should also point out that I'm not actually all that techy - I've just sort of fixed this through belligerent trail and error. I'd like to know if this helps anyone else.

  • Laptop connects to iPhone 4s personal hotspot but internet doesn't work

I want to be able to use internet on my PC laptop (or any wi-fi capable device) with my 4S as the wi-fi hotspot. The laptop I'm using (Windows XP) sees my phone and connects to it (with full connectivity) but web pages won't load (there doesn't seem to be internet connectivity). What am I missing here? I've read you need a separate tethering plan with your wireless provider in order to use your phone as a personal hotspot? That's pretty dumb considering I'm already paying for a data plan and now they want more money on top of that in order to use that? Stupid...

You can call it all the names you want, but the bottom line is that without purchasing a tethering plan, you can't share your internet connection.
