Internet drop outs on my G5 since I use a wired router instead of wireless

Hi guys!
I used to have wireless internet at home (1 x G5 & 2 x windows laptops). Internet worked fine and fast. Although I couldn't get all computers into a internal network (for easy sharing files...), but that's not the issue now.
Anyway, I have a new roommate in the house that doesn't have wireless on his windows pc. So, I connected all computers to a 4 ports router. I ditched the whole wireless thing because I couldn't get it working together with the wired router thing. So all computers are linked to the router by cable.
Now, at first everything worked fine. All computers had internet and I even had my long awaited network so that I could share files at high speed between computers (mac - windows). Suddenly, I guess after a couple of hours, my mac started having difficulties finding the network. At times I have no internet, or it takes looooooooooooooong to load up webpages and sharing files with my windows laptop takes like 6hours for 3giga (which normally is done in a couple of minutes). My windows laptop has no problem with internet, no drop out no nothing, everything works fine (except sending files to my mac which also takes hours...).
Anybody knows what to do?
Also anyone knows if the following is possible:
- cable comes in my house (WAN)
- goes to wired 4port router
- from the router 1 wire goes directly to a pc
- from the router another wire goes to my wireless accesspoint which then would be used to connect 1 or more wireless pc's.
- with all that, I'd like to have internet on all computers AND have a fully working network between all computers (mac and windows)
Anyone knows if this is possible?
Thanks for your time!

The wireless access point is a D Link Airplus G+ 2.4Ghz. It has no extra ethernet ports.
I also thought of having a wireless router with extra ethernet ports. But of course this would mean another cost... I was hoping that I could fix it with the things I allready own.
But, nevertheless, there might be a little change in things as I just tried connecting with the second ethernet port on my mac. Haven't had any problems yet (+/- 10minutes). Am gonna try to send big files to my laptop in order to test the speed between them.
Will get back with the results.
Thanks for your help!

  • Frustrated w/ constant internet drop-outs...

    Hi All,
So I've been having some serious problems with my APE as it is constantly droppping out the internet signal on my wireless network. Currently, I have 2 computers - an e-mac and g4 12" pb - that are sharing the internet. I've had APE for about 2 years now and it's been working great. But for the past 7 months, it's been dropping the internet signal more frequently and constantly blinking yellow. I can still stream music and print anytime but the internet doesn't go through. On my dsl modem, the link light for the ethernet is intermittent but mostly off even when it's connected to the APE. When I hard line dsl into either of my computers - no problem at all. Which leads me to believe that it's my APE. I've configured the APE in every possible way using AP admin - varying the channel settings, multicast rate, robustness etc, as well as doing various hardware resets. I have the lastest firmware on the APE. I've also moved this bugger in every possible space around my house. After trying all this, it still blinks yellow. I even have an older dsl modem that I tested and it still doesn't work with the APE (after it works flawlessly hardlined in). Every once in a while it goes green and works but guaranteed it will drop out in less than a day.
Anyway, I called applecare a while ago and they told me that with my 2.4 phone, this will eventually happen. But I've even disconnected my phone and it still does this. I just don't understand why this thing can keep it's connection up. I have friends who use 2.4 wireless phones and don't have any issues with their APE. I have friends who have much more precarious set ups (tons of 2.4 signaled toys and brick walls, etc) and no issues to report. Plus, I've seen other wireless systems (such as D-link) that are put in commercial offices and even in the hospital that I work at and obviously they don't have internet drop outs. My system at home is much more simplier and I'm totally at a loss for what to do. I'm tired getting infront of my computers and seeing that the internet has dropped out, reconfiguring and running all over my house trying to find the best place. I'm thinking about getting a d-link/netgear system to replace my APE. It would be sad since everything else apple of mine is fantastic - it's very disheartening for a loyal macaddict.
So, that's where I'm at - totally pooped and frustrated. Man, is it maybe me - am I admitting some radio interference? Oh wise ones in apple support land, I turn to you as my last resort - your assistance would be muchly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    deekay

    How can something like
the APE be so crippled by a 2.4 phone even with the
    various channels to share.
Some 2.4 phones use multiple channels and therefore use the entire spectrum
    Why does this affect some
APE and not all across the board - that's the
frustrating thing. Like I mentioned before, I have
friends that have been running their 2.4 phones (with
multiple handsets) and placed their APE right behind
their TV and no drop outs at all - what gives?
    ...and some phones don't.
A neighbour may be using a 2.4 phone as well.
Anyway, thanks iF for the info and the help - but
I've already been down that road with all the
trouble shooting stuff online. Yes, maybe, as Marc
says, I may need something to strengthen the signal.
This may not work if the noise level is too high.
First identify the interference and see what you can do to eliminate if at all.

Thanks for that info! Even in my time answering questions on iMovie Discussion Group, I never had a good understanding of when and how Optimize Movie came into play. I always would import as Optimized and Large Size and figured that was good enough. But knowing you got much, much more flexibility doing it the way you describe gives me a much better understanding of the different routes you can take into the Event Library.

  • Does 10.5.6 fix internet drop out since 10.5.2?

    Hi all,
Every since I tried to update to 10.5.3 my internet connection was very slow, then lost and dropped out altogether. I installed all subsequent updates, but the problem remained. I had to roll back to 10.5.2 each time to be able to use my internet.
Don't bother giving me all kinds of technical suggestions or fixes. Nothing works. I tried everything. I just want to know if 10.5.6 solves the problem or not, before I update. Those who have the same problem, will surely know what I am talking about.
    Thanks, Eddy

There are fixes for AirPort in the 10.5.4 update. They are...
    1. Addresses AirPort reliability issues with 5GHz networks.
    2. Addresses AirPort issues that may result in slower performance in Logic Studio or MainStage.
So update your computer, your issue might be solved.

  • Internet drops out

    Hi
We have a laptop with Windows Xp Service pack two. We have a speedstream 4200 Ethernet modem and are subscribed to westnet. When I first installed airport express it worked fine for about 3 weeks. We unplugged it and now it keeps dropping out of hte internet all the time. Not sure why. Can someone help?
    cheers

I am having the same type of problem. I've had my Airport express for several years and it has worked perfectly. This morning it would not connect to the internet. It's impossible because every minute or so, the internet connection just freezes and I just sit there for about 10 seconds until it reconnects or gets the connection back.
I can connect to the internet via my laptop using a ethernet cable via the cable modem so my internet connection is just fine.
Thanks to Duanne, he wrote the answer...
It sounds like an interference issue.
    AirPort: Potential sources of interference
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58543
Duanne wrote the solution in this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=496971&threadrate=1&messageid= 2410808#2410808
The problem with Radio Frec. (RF) interference is that your ability to control it is severely limited. An active device outside of your home could be providing enough interference to drastically hinder your wireless network. Hence your network could have worked for years but suddenly your neighbor gets a new baby monitor and wham! your network goes in the dumpster.
The immediate solution to an active source of interference is to remove that source. But if that is not possible, you can change the channel used by your base station to hopefully locate a channel that is operating better.
I will add ...one more thing... I plugged a new sound system next to the Airport Express, and I think that also was interferencing with the signal. I've plugged the sound system a few feet away and now the problem is solved.
That worked for me!... Good Luck.

  • Anyone know why internet drops out for iMac but not ipad or iphone? Thanks

I have been trying to download Mountain Lion and  I keep getting 'an error has occured' after about 40 mins or an hour.  Then I notice that the iMac is not connected to the Internet.  However the iPad and iPhone are (using airport).  I am using ethernet adapters which are paired.  I have also taken my 24inch iMac out of the study and into the hall and connected it directly to the router using an ethernet cable with still the same result. I have been on the Apple helpline to a high level but they have been unable to sort it out and we've checked most things. I have plenty of capacity on the iMac so it should take the Mountain Lion ios easily.  I have checked the broadband speed and it was 6.21 (using the ethernet adaptors).  Could there be a conflict somewhere between the iMac and the BT broadband?  It does seem to drop out when we listen to our Sonos system too. Please help. Thanks, Fioled

Downloading Moutain Lion requires a high speed broadband connection.
6.21 will never work. That is not broadband.
Make certain your Mac can run Mountain Lion > System requirements for OS X Mountain Lion
Check your download speed here > Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test
Anything less than 15Mbps will not be fast enough to download Mountain Lion. It's a 4.35GB (approximately) file. That will time out on a slow connection.

  • Embarq Internet Dropping Out

My house recently switched to Embarq from Comcast. We're using their wireless router, and my connection will occasionally drop out for about 10-20 seconds. It usually happens while I'm playing an online game or watching videos, so I'm guessing it has something to do with bandwidth issues? The only thing is that plenty of other guys in the house play the same game and watch the same videos on their PCs without temporarily losing internet. Any ideas?

it is showing the fire wall is working and your device lease times not any problem there

  • LCP Down/Internet dropping out.

Keep getting drop outs on my Internet. Logs on the router say
    Mon, 2011-11-14 13:28:31 - LCP down.
    Mon, 2011-11-14 13:28:32 - Initialize LCP.
Mon, 2011-11-14 13:28:32 - LCP is allowed to come up.
    Mon, 2011-11-14 13:28:38 - CHAP authentication success
As i can see it only disconnects for a couple of seconds everytime. Now i have a open fault with BT, but they keep ringing me back telling me it's fixed when it isn't. They re-open the fault, but tell me they want to get an engineer into my house and charge me. The fault is 100% not my problem. Happens on two totally different/make of routers. All wires have been changed and new filters put in.

    Hi Welcome to the forums
If you post the full stats from your router
For homehub – type 192.168.1.254 into your browser
Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right of the home page and scroll down to ADSL Settings and click on it
Click on More Details and then post the full results.
also post the full results from http://speedtester.bt.com/

  • BT Home Hub 3 Problems - Internet drop out

We had BT (and the Hub 4) installed at the end of August. As soon as it was installed, we had issues where the internet would be fantastic and stay connected for all of five minutes before slowing to nothing and then dropping out. We had a technician out to fix the problem, who seemed to have it solved.
Fiften minutes after he left, it went down again. It was not just on one device. It was two phones, a laptop, and a desktop PC. A technician came out a second time, replaced the Hub 4 with a Hub 3, and we still had issues. The technician, on their laptop, ran a number of tests (including the internet speed test) and declared the issue nothing to do with BT as the problems did not occur on his laptop. This was despite us also running the same speed test at the same time stating that we were getting all of 8mb (as opposed to the 30mb he was receiving).
Frustrated, we were informed that, when using the computers, we would need to plug them in via an ethernet cable to receive the speed promised to us and a continuous connection. We received a set of arcnet plugs for the desktop PC (which has solved the problem for the desktop) and that the laptop would have to stay by the modem and plugged in via ethernet cable to receive a continuous connection.
Recently (over the last two months) the internet has slowed dramatically, even when plugged in, and we still cannot receive a continuous connection wirelessly for the internet, and now we have issues of sudden drop-outs.
The connection can be restored by troubleshooting and it comes up with the following message:
This has been the message from the very beginning, and we want the matter to be finally resolved. Can anyone actually help up with this problem? We're feeling very frustrated at the lack of assistance we have received.

As you now have hh3 can you enter 192.168.1.254 into your browser and then post your adsl stats please. Can you run btspeedtester diagnostic test and post results
Are you connected to the test socket?
Have you tried downloading and then running inssider 3 which will show if you are using a congested channel for the wifi and if so other channels which you can move to being less congested
Have you checked that the drivers for your wifi cards are up to date from manufacturers website?

  • U-verse internet dropped when 5.8GHz wordless phone is used (in and out)

I guess I was thinking about getting where it could easilyt be returned.
Now I am thinking - Is there any way to get a wired phone? I know that would be inconvenient, but I would really like to see you shut down at least one of the wireless systems for a good test.

I have new equipment of PACE Plc, 5031NV-030, H/W version 2701-000875-004. It's installed by an AT&T techinican in Feb 2015. Our problem is, every time when we receive a phone or dial out, the U-verse internet drops. Only until the phone is hung up, U-verse will resume within 1-min. Our cordless phone is a GE model with 5.8GHz. What to check? I know how to access the configuration page, here is the home tab ==========================Key Things to do Using Your GatewayTroubleshoot - Go to online support, troubleshooting & AT&T eRepairWireless - Modify security or settingsRestart your System - Reboot the gatewayHome Network - Find a computer, share a fileCustomize Firewall - Adjust firewall settings for gaming and applications==========================   Please advise. Thanks.

  • WRT45G wireless internet dropping out

    Hey there,
Hoping someone can help me out here with perhaps an option change in the router settings or what not.
Here's the issue, I will have the router up and running with two laptops and an Iphone connected through wireless.
The connection will show still connected but I will have no internet connection. I haven't tried this wired yet. The only way I can resolve it is reseting the router on the back, restoring it to factory default. Which resets password, mac filter and all that jazz.
Can someone help me out? this happens at least twice a day.

Well you should try with the wired connection first....because if does the same thing with the wired connection as well then it could be a firmware issue ,
Anyhow , as per as the wireless is concern it says connected but you are not online.....check what ipaddress that you are getting at that time .

  • Time Capsule internet drop-out problem.... Solved (for now....?)

I am new here, but i would like to share my experiences with a problem a lot of people seem to have here aswell.
I got home last week after being abroad for work for two days, and noticed i couldn't get on the internet again. My system uses an iMac, TC and an internet modem i got from my ISP, which is a Motorola modem.
Hooked the TC up to the modem via ethernet and this has been working without a glich for about 2 years now. I first noticed the problem on my iPhone which was unable to get on the internet. Connected to the network just fine, but no internet. Very strange, as i had a solid green light on my TC.
Checked the internet on my iMac, and i found the same problem. Did a reset on the TC and the modem, and things seemed to be ok again. But.... after about 20mins. internet was not working any more again. By now i was getting rather frustrated, because in the AirPort Utility it said everything was working the way it should, including a solid green light on the TC.
Been going over everything i could think off. Soft reset, hard reset, going back to factory settings, resetting the modem. Just resetting the modem, just resetting the TC, resetting both at te same time. Nothing seemed to work, the problem kept coming back! Downgraded the software on the TC, upgraded again. Nothing.
Strange thing was, i hooked up my computer via ethernet directly to the cable-modem and internet was just fine, so no problem there, which was confirmed when i called my ISP (which is great... as long as there is no problem)
After 3 days i finally called Apple, and they were ok to help me. For free just for once (next time i will have to pay 49euros!!) and told him about my problem. He gave me all suggestions i already tried, except changing channels on the TC.
After the call i tried doing that, going from channel 1 to 6, but still... after 20 - 30 mins. internet would drop.
But.... i put it on channel 7 and for now it is working great again. (no loss of internet for about 36hours!!)
This seems to be THE solution for my problem. Apparently, one of my neighbours put up a device which was interfering with the signal of my TC, which caused all my problems!
For now i am really happy everything is back, up and running and i thought i just let you all know about my problems, and solution, because this forum has been a great help!
And... before i forget.... i am running firmware 7.3.2 now... because i read a lot of problems about 7.4.1 and things are running great for me now !!

  • Internet drops out w/ Lion & Airport Express

I've been having an intermittent problem since I installed Lion.  My Airport Express shows green on it's LED, but the internet completely stops responding.  This happens every hour or two, requiring me to unplug the Airport for a minute.  Plugging it back in usually solves the problem, at least for a little while.  This never happened with Snow Leopard, so all I can figure is it has something to do with Lion.  The only other piece of software I've installed is AirFoil, which is technically incompatible with Lion, but sort of works anyway.  I've had this happen even without AirFoil running, though, so I assume there's no relation.
    Anybody else having this issue?
