Internet Explorer 11 Reverts to Custom level Security

I set IE11 Security level to DEFAULT, but the level keeps reverting to CUSTOM.
I would appreciate assistance in correcting this problem.

  • Is there a way to change my user agent from Safari to Internet Explorer?

    Hello All,
I need to fill out a application on line and it appears that it does not recognize Safari.  Sounds like it needs to see IE.  Anyway to temporarily enable IE for this application?  Otherwise I have to go use a PC at the local library....
These instructions below in no way match my Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my iMac - they don't make sense to me.  Any help/guidance is appreciated to fill out this on-line form.  Thanks!
    Apple Safari
If using Safari, you must have Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher version or Firefox 2.0.0.12 - Macversion web browser at the "User Agent" category or higher for Firefox. Use the following instructions to configure your Safari browser to access e-QIP.
    On the Menu Bar
Select Edit box (top of screen)
    Preferences
    Security
Accept Cookies (only from site that you navigate to)
    Advanced
Check the box labeled "Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar"
Click proxies - Change settings box (Opens to Internet Explorer (IE) Properties Boxes)
    Advanced tab
Security category is located near bottom of page
Click "Do not save encrypted pages to disk"
Click "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed"
    Click/enable SSL 2.0
    SSL 3.0
    TLS.1
    Exit Preferences Window
On Menu Bar select "Develop User Agent"

    John..
This may work but no guarantees ..
Launch Safari. From the Safari menu bar top of your screen click Safari. From the drop down menu click Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now from the Safari menu bar again, click Develop > User Agent
    Try IE 7, 8, or 9.

  • How to see settings when "custom level" is greyed out in Internet Explorer

Group Policy is set which causes the custom level button to be greyed out in Internet Explorer. Thus, I can't even see what settings are set let alone change them. Is there any good way to even figure out which settings are set?
And no, it's not in the Group Policy Management Console. The settings were imported from some machine a long time ago. It's not like there's a list of the settings in GPMC showing what is set. So, the only way apparently to change the setting in Group Policy is
to configure some machine with the right settings, install GPMC and import from that machine overwriting the old policy. So, I need to know what's set now (not that I necessarily even want to do that).
machine in question: Windows Server 2008 R2 datacenter
IE version: 9 with all patches

    Hi,
Please understand that all IE security settings are stored in the following registry keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
If you want to check the settings on the machine, you should local the registry keys in Registry Editor. If you want to import the settings from one machine, please just right click on the
target registry key and choose Export to export these settings to a .reg file.
Regarding detailed information about Internet Explorer security zones registry entries, please refer to the following article.

  • Internet Explorer Security Settings for Previewing in Developer

    Hello Marc,
I just 2 weeks new to UPK. I just switched over to a new laptop and now when I try to preview UPK in try it mode (local install), I receive an error message that says PREVIEW CANNOT OPEN "preview requires intranet settings to be enabled. These settings are located on the security tab in the Internet Settings of Internet Explorer." I current use IE 7.0. Can you advise which settings need to be changed?

    Hello,
For See It! and Try It! mode preview you will need to do the following:
Tools > Internet Options > Security (tab) > Local Intranet (icon) > Sites. Check all of the boxes. “Automatically detect intranet network” must be unchecked for the other buttons to be available. Once you check everything, you can re-check “Automatically detect intranet network”.
For Do It! mode preview you will need to do the following:
Tools > Internet Options > Security (tab) > Local Intranet (icon) > Custom level... Scroll down until you see the option for "Allow script-initiated windows without size or position constraints" (a little more than halfway down) and set this option to Enable.
This should allow you to properly preview these modes in the UPK Developer.
    Best regards,
    Marc

  • Microsoft Security Advisory (2757760): Vulnerability in Internet Explorer

Vulnerability in Internet Explorer Could Allow Remote Code Execution
Microsoft is investigating public reports of a vulnerability in Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8, and Internet Explorer 9. Internet Explorer 10 is not affected. Microsoft is aware of targeted attacks that attempt to exploit this vulnerability.
A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way that Internet Explorer accesses an object that has been deleted or has not been properly allocated. The vulnerability may corrupt memory in a way that could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user within Internet Explorer. An attacker could host a specially crafted website that is designed to exploit this vulnerability through Internet Explorer and then convince a user to view the website.
On completion of this investigation, Microsoft will take the appropriate action to protect our customers, which may include providing a solution through our monthly security update release process, or an out-of-cycle security update, depending on customer needs.
Article including some suggested actions is continued here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/advisory/2757760

The suggested setting in EMET for IE is to be protected against ALL the available exploits --- that is to say, including Mandatory ASLR as well as BottomUpASLR.   Unless you experience an issue with it [and the EMET Notifier should advise you of any problems it encounters], there's no reason to "generically" turn-off MandatoryASLR.
Having said that, here are the common exceptions people need to be aware of:
    1) Windows Media Player users should UNcheck Mandatory ASLR for their Windows Media Player.
    2) Skype users should UNcheck EAF for their Skype.
    3) Some versions of Trusteer Rapport are having trouble with Microsoft EMET - web browsers do not open at all or open a blank, unusable window. In such case, Windows XP users should UNcheck EAF protection for each of their web browsers; and Windows Vista and 7 users should UNcheck Mandatory ASLR protection for each of their web browsers.
    4) Configuring the system setting for DEP changes a boot option for Windows. For systems using BitLocker, this will cause BitLocker to detect that “system boot information has changed” and you will be forced to enter your recovery key the next time you boot Windows. It is highly recommended that you have your recovery key ready before changing the system configuration setting for DEP on a system with BitLocker enabled.

  • Internet Explorer 11 - Security

In Internet Explorer 11 under the tools, security tab, I selected restricted sites and added "http://www.match.com, *match.com under websites but i.e. will still continue to display match.com in the browser.  So I added other sites and they too

    from:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/change-internet-explorer-security-settings#1TC=windows-7
The level of security set for Restricted sites is applied to sites that might potentially damage your computer or your information.
Adding sites to the Restricted zone does not block them, but it prevents them from using scripting or any active content. The security level for Restricted sites is set to High and can't be changed.

  • Internet Explorer 10 IEAK capturing Security Settings

I am trying to package a custom installation for Internet Explorer 10 using IEAK.  I am having some trouble with the Import Security Settings portion of the tool.
It is failing to import the security settings.  It says it has imported them, but upon installation the security settings have not been included in the IE 10 installation.
Looking at the "INS" folder that is built and the custsec.inf file create there, I can see that only two security settings have been captured -- "1401" and "2500" and none of the other 50 or so security settings are collected
    for any zone.
In addition, I have trusted sites set to not require HTTPS, but that selection is not captured into the custom IEAK generated browser installer.
Does anyone have any tips on how to successfully deploy a customized version of IE 10?  I am even more reliant now on IEAK since IEM mode was removed from Group Policy, so I reall need to figure out why it doesn't function correctly.

When ActiveSetup is run on a 64bit OS, first all the 32bit ActiveSetup keys are run first, and the 64bit ActiveSetup keys are run second.
The problem is that IEAK is adding the CUSTOM ActiveSetup to the 32bit key, and the ie4uinit.exe is added to the 64bit key.  While the IEAK has an ">" listed in the GUID (to signal for it to run last) it runs "last" in the 32bit
ActiveSetup commands.  The 64bit ones (which the ie4uinit.exe is part of) all run after the 32bit stuff....
So it appears that IEAK is not designed to build an IE 10 installation that will run correctly on 64bit OSes.  The IEAK CUSTOM settings will always apply prior to the ie4uinit running.  I suppose this can be changed by further manipulating the
registry after IEAK customized IE 10 is installed and making sure the >{GUID} entry is moved to the 64bit registry.
I suppose another way to look at it is ie4uinit is not correctly noticing that that the user settings are already present in the user's registry and is wallpapering over them with the incorrect settings.  Either way, the end result is that the incorrect
settings are being configured for the user on first logon.
I find it difficult to believe that Microsoft IE team has messed this up and that no one has discovered it before.  (I'm not being sarcastic) That makes me question what I am doing that is incorrect because I can't  believe that a problem like
that would exist in a product as major as IE - and that no one has run into it and blogged about it.  I must have
something incorrect, but I really can't figure out what it is.  Why is IEAK's IE 10 writing that CUSTOM ActiveSetup into the 32bit registry on a 64bit machine?  Maybe it will work to just move the CUSTOM key from 32bit to 64bit at the end
    of the installation.
Looking closer, the IE installer writes to both the 64bit and 32bit ActiveSetup areas in the registry.  The problem is that the 64bit one never runs because the 32bit one has run already and ActiveSetup runs only once.  So the IEAK CUSTOM
runs once out of activesetup in the 32bit registry.  Then the IE4Uinit runs once from the ActiveSetup 64bit registry area, then the IEAK CUSTOM ActiveSetup is evaluated (it has the same GUID as the 32bit one) ActiveSetup decides that GUID has already
run and doesn;t run a second time.
I have been able to solve my problem simply by deleting the IEAK CUSTOM entry in ActiveSetup under the 32bit registry area  I just look at each subkey of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components
Looking at the string values of StubPath in all the subkeys I find one with the value "RunDLL32 IEDKCS32.DLL,BrandIE4 CUSTOM" and I delete the parent key from ActiveSetup.  (don't delete the one in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSetup)
This makes it so that IEDKCS32 always runs after the ie4uinit thing, and that makes everything work as planned.  I have no idea why I have to do this.  Hopefully someone else will find this saga useful in their own situation.

  • I cannot download software or export secure Certificate from Firefox, but can with Internet Explorer. This is crucial for meeting a deadline with an international patent Filing Today. Pls help - 555-555-5555. Sheldon

I tried to download an e-filing client software from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) website [http://www.wipo.int/pct-safe/en/download/download_client.htm] using Firefox. Clicking the link to download yielded no activity. I eventually tried the same link in internet explorer and it worked. This occurred last week. I have a deadline to complete an international patent filing today; and in order to do so online, I had to request a Secure Digital ID from WIPO. It was approved and received early this morning (Central European Time Zone); and the accompanying guidelines suggested that I use the same computer and browser to retrieve the ID. This meant that since I use Firefox as my default browser my request was also made and had to be retrieved in Firefox. Following the WIPO support instructions I ran into exactly the same problem of inactivity when trying to "Backup" my newly installed ID certificate per WIPO instruction, so that it may be imported into the e-filing software. Please help as soon as you can as my patent deadline is merely hours away. Please also see a response from the WIPO helpdesk below:
    Dear User,

Subject: Certificates (use of and different types)/26708 Answer from PCT-SAFE Help Desk:
Unfortunately, apart from revoking your new certificate and then re-enrolling using Internet Explorer, I do not see many options.
We cannot do support for external software, like Firefox, but I had a quick glance at Mozilla's support side and it seems that you might be able to resolve your problem by starting Firefox in safe mode, and/or disabling all your Firefox extensions. I have to stress the fact that this is not a procedure tested and approved by the PCT-SAFE team.
As this is an extremely time-sensitive issue please also contact me by phone so that we can work through the solution in real-time. I can be reached at 555-555-555 - Sheldon

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Attempting to download from a secure server

Just to follow up on my findings. My last issue regarding the digital certificate was not at the time of initial download into Firefox, but my application required that I backup the certificate into a folder which can then be accessed to sign a submission generated by a third-party Client software.
After finally steering away from the digital signing route by opting for a non digital filing of my project, I later revisited the Firefox certificates list only to find that the 'Backup' button still didn't work or respond in any way whatsoever; however since I only had a single certificate on my list... I threw my hand up in the air and tried the 'Backup All' button... guess what - that worked!! My browser then navigated to a file browser which allowed me to save the certificate to a folder of my choice. Of course this was after the fact as my deadline had already passed and and I had the Administrator who initially granted my secure ID revoke it once I was blocked from downloading it by Firefox.
Just an update/FYI for y'all... But I'm not sure if this type of anomoly is due to a glitch on my computer or a glitch on the browser - but it certainly did catch me off-guard during a deadline.

I'm not sure I properly asked my question. I have a need to post a resume to an employer who requires that the information be submitted via Internet Explorer. My OSX vs 10.4.11 will not accept downloads of the current IE version and Microsoft no longer supports any earlier versions that would work with my Mac.
