Internet Explorer 5.1 Needs to be replaced?

Greetings all. As of late my Internet Explorer 5.1 has gotten more and more squirelly. More and more pages will not load, either I get a message the URL is not found, or IE hangs and I have to force quit. I have tried clearing cache, erasing cookies, and trashing cache.waf and IE cache.waf.
I consistenly cannot get into Version Tracker, and they have acknowledged (via telephone) that they are are aware of some issues with their new site design with IE 5.1. They recommend getting a new browser, so I have downloaded iCab (since it seems to be the only one still under development that works with System 9). However, there is a problem with printing, which iCab tech support says is a bug with QuickTime 6. iCab recommends going back to QuickTime 5, and I found 5.0.5 on the Apple site.
Any comments on "upgrading" from 6.0.3 back to 5.0.5 so I can print? I can't even log in here in the forum in IE any more.
Thanks.
G3 Beige mini tower   Mac OS 9.1.x   Sonnet G4 800MHz upgrade; 640 MB RAM

Recently, I did a clean istall of OS 9.22 on my Beige G3. I had no real trouble with IE before that (or so I thought), but when the install was done, and all updates were done, I tried IE, and it was pretty fast, responsive, and even downloaded stuff at a fair rate. Netscape 7 still downloads faster, but has even more trouble with sites made with MS Frontpage.
I have no idea which part of IE's mess did the trick, but I guess things get mucky after a while.
Browsing is still faster in OS X, with Safari, but it's not too bad now in OS 9.

  • I imported my favorites from Internet Explorer but I need to know how to display my "favorites" in the tool bar so I can access and organize them

I imported my favorites from Internet Explorer, but how do I display "favorites" in the tool bar so I can access and organize them?

It did merge them after a fashion, glad I took a backup first even if I did only perhaps create 3 or 4 bookmarks today. So if I have bookmark separators, it's going to figure out which group to put them in (no way). Anyway I thought they would just go down to the bottom of the bookmarks menu like the other method, like when I export and import bookmarks in Firefox where they do go to the end of the Bookmarks Menu folder and would simply delete one folder.
Anyway this would not be typical because I don't want any bookmarks from IE.

  • How To Remove PHP Extension File Association With Internet Explorer

When I select a PHP file to open it is redirected to be downloaded and opened (or I can choose to save) in Internet Explorer.  I need to test the file in different browsers.  How can I remove this automatic association?
I've tried selecting a php file from Windows Explorer and selecting a different browser with no success.  I recently bought a new computer with Windows 8.  It's a big jump from my old one which used XP where there was no problem opening files with
    a php extension.
    Pat

it sounds like you have a file association for .php, and, that you don't want to have one, so the original default behaviour would instead be preferable?
This discussion, although for Win7, may be helpful:

  • How to open Internet Explorer files?

I have a bunch of Internet Explorer files that I transferred from my old OS 9 iMac. Now, it seems, I can't open any of them. These are web pages I saved for research purposes, and I would really like to open them if at all possible. It was suggested that Opera 9 could open Internet Explorer files; but, I tried that and it didn't work. Does anyone know how I might do that?
    Carl Kalwaitis

Archives that you saved with Internet Explorer can only be opened by Internet Explorer.
These are essentially a single file that contains the entire site.
Other browsers save files, pictures, and supporting information in a folder for each page you save.
But, Internet Explorer wraps all that into a single file (a web archive). This format is naturally only compatible with Internet Explorer.
You need to get the latest version of Internet Explorer for Mac OS X.
Microsoft has officially abandoned this browser. So, they are not offering it or supporting it anymore.
But, you can still locate a copy for downloading at:

    Hope this helps.

  • Windows Internet Explorer 9 will not allow me to download Firefox. How can I fix this?

Running Windows Vista with Internet explorer 9. Need to download Mozilla Firefox. I get to the Firefox download page, click on the Download button. I get at message asking if I would like to save the Firefox Setup Stub, which I did. A small extra window appears, presumably for the installer download, but nothing ever appears in it. The download page says that if the download does not begin shortly to "click here". I did that and nothing happens. Please help!

Try using the full download installer, rather than the "stub" installer. <br />

  • I am receiving an error message in Internet Explorer - Adobe Muse

    Hi
I am receiving annoying error messages in Internet Explorer. How can I fix this?
The website is currently live. View here: http://josephapartments.com
to see error messages, view it in Internet Explorer.
If needed, I can send you my muse file.

First, go back into the CPTX source file and check that LMS reporting is indeed turned on and that it is set to SCORM etc.
If that is OK.  Republish and use the Zip option in the Captivate Publish dialog settings to zip the file.  Don't zip it yourself.
If your LMS still rejects this zip file, upload to SCORM Cloud and see if it rejects it too.

  • Working with internet explorer

I know mac no longer supports internet explorer. I need to access applications from my place of employment at home that apparently only work with internet explorer.
I can partially access the website using firefox, safari, netscape, and the latest internet explorer for macs (5.2), but can't do anything with it. The IT guy at my place of employment tried to help me configure the internet explorer, but says it's old & he couldn't do it. Am I out of luck?

Just a question: is your work computer a PC? If it is, I recommend biting the bullet and signing up for "Go to My PC" if you haven't already. I assume if you're a Mac user you probably have broadband internet at home and at work. If you use GTMPC you can operate your PC right from your home Mac, and process your stuff from home, save it on your work PC, and you're good to go! It's only $19.95 a month for unlimited usage; $14.95 a month if you sign up and pay for a whole year. It works great - it basically uses your browser at home to extend your home keyboard to your work PC. Your work PC does all the work, not your Mac - but you get to watch. It's as much fun as PC computing can be!

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer

I have a software application that will only open in Microsoft Internet Explorer because it needs to install Active X. Is there anyway to use IE on a Mac without having to install a Windows operating system as well?

Try using CrossOver Mac to run Internet Explorer.

  • Urgent need to install Internet Explorer or replacement

Please urgent need to install Internet Explorer or replacement

  • On My web site the adobe flash player replaced with a white box "need to install adobe flash player and Java script" both installed. My web site fine using Internet Explorer and Chrome.

I've updated to Firefox ver 5.
    Gordon

The FlashPlayer plugin used for Firefox is entirely separate from the one that Internet Explorer uses. You system details do not show Flash Player is installed.
With flash player installed and enabled if you go to the Adobe website it will check that FlashPlayer works, also you will be able to download and install from there if necessary. The site page also has links to troubleshooting information. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Javascript is not the same as Java. Javascript, which is what you need enabled at present is a feature of the firefox browser that needs enabling in order for it to handle the javscript files.
    * use '''Firefox button -> Options ->| Content| -> [] Enable Javascript'''
    * see [[Javascript]]

  • I now have installed Firefox to replace Internet explorer 9. Do I still need an other antivirus program like Mc Afee or Norton for protection of my laptop?

At this moment I have Mc Afee installed but this will expire within a few weeks.
Do I have to extend this if I use firewall instead of internet explorer?

    Yes you do.

  • Need to run IE (Internet Explorer) any other way besides Parallels?

New to Mac (part II). Ok, new to Mac part II means I tried a couple years ago but because I was dependent on MS products and IE (have to have IE for real estate) I had to switch back to PC. Now with new Intel chip and am happy to say I am the proud new owner of a MacBook which brings me to my question.
I'd love to be able to toss my PC and never return to it again but I can't unless I can find a way to run IE. I am running Parallels/Vista and can access IE that way but man does that cause the Mac to run up it's activity.
I have 2GB of RAM and the activity monitor with Parallels running shot over 100% just this program alone. The fan was blowing.
I only need IE for one purpose; to access the MLS (I am in real estate and it's all they authorize to access the MLS - Multiple Listing Service). Is there another way to immulate IE without going through the trouble of running Parallels?
It makes me uneasy to have the fan working as hard it is running Parallels or am I being overly cautious? Thanks.
    I

Thanks, Opera did not work. As for BootCamp, the reason I choose Parallels was for the convenience of NOT having to reboot in and out all the time. With Parallels I can run the program within Mac and just click back and forth. I guess when I have to access it I'll just put up with the amount of resources it takes up.
    Thanks for all the assistance.
FYI - here is the message I get.
