Internet explorer 6.0+ or Mozilla Firefox 1.5+ ??

Hello fellow forum-readers,
I'm from the Netherlands so my english might be a bit terrible sometimes..
I just got my macbook Yesterday and after finally getting a internet connection i tried surfing to my school site. Unfortunately i get the next message:
This application requires Internet Explorer 6.0+ or Mozilla Firefox 1.5+
[userAgent:Mozilla\5.0(Macintosh;U;Intel Mac OS X 1064; nl-nl(AppleWebKit/533.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2Safari/533.18.5]
i tried to download a Mozilla Firefox from the apple site ( it was like 3.6.??) but it didn't worked and i don't know what to do now. Do i need internet explorer or mozilla firefox, what is the difference??
Also when i put, using a USB, word documents on my mac i cannot see the illustrations/pictures that used to be on there?? How is this possible? Hopefully you can help me solve these issues a.s.a.p.
Greetings, Roos

thanx for the quick response.
I've downloaded mozilla firefox now and i' allowed to go on the site. an other problem is that i cannot open files there i need too select a program witch i use to open the documents with...
I've tried allot but i do'nt know what i need to use for that. Every thing is try let's me with a download of the document withs i don't want and doesnt work.
A little bit frustrated.
The site is through fontys.nl you need to log in with a personal code en then i go to elo.fontys.nl ( that's the site with all the documents)
FOr the rest the apple/macbook system is really different and i know i need to put some hours/days in it before i can use it normally so i'm studing on it right now...
But what are the basics that i need to install then? Iv'e read the information i got in the macbook folder i've recieved next too the macbook. Also installed the cd's i've recieved.. What do i need office or neaoffice and how can i see??

What application are you choosing to open the files with?
Because of how integrated it is with windows IE should work. If it's not working, something more widespread could be wrong with your computer that would also prevent other browsers from working properly. Of course we'd love you to stick with Firefox, but you should get help with IE, too.

  • I have been using Internet Explorer and have now downloaded Firefox but cannot find my imported favourites. Where can I find them?

I have now downloaded Firefox as my default browser and when downloading I asked for my favourites from Internet Explorer to be exported to Firefox. I cannot find anywhere on the Firefox site that allows me to open my favourites. Can you please advise.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • If I export bookmarks to internet explorer will they remain in firefox?

I would like to export firefox bookmarks to internet explorer without losing them in firefox.

No, you will never lose bookmarks in Firefox if you export them to an HTML backup or to a JSON backup.
If you would import an HTML backup then those bookmarks will be merged to the existing bookmarks.<br />
Restoring a JSON backup in Firefox however will replace all existing bookmarks and you get a warning about this.

  • Internet Explorer prevented installation of Mozilla for safety reasons

When attempting to install Mozlla Firefox, an Internet Explore pop-up appeared warning of safety issues with going forward in the installation.

You may be getting a general Internet Explorer warning about installing software from the internet. Obviously you should always be careful.
Make sure to download from the official site: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
It may be better to "save" the download to a convenient location instead of using "run". This will give you a chance to scan the file for viruses if your computer doesn't do that automatically.

  • Internet Explorer won't connect after Firefox update.

I have searched relentlessly trying to get IE back online. I cannot register AutoCad (which I need for school in a few days), until IE can access the internet. All my searching points to asking Mozilla why your update, or what your update may have done to forbid IE from accessing the internet/network. Brilliant on your part, makes your product seem more reliable and forces users to use your product. I do. I love Firefox, hate IE. But I NEED Internet Explorer for too many things. There are far too many websites and programs which will only function via IE. It's IE version 8. I have Firefox 5.0.
    Thanks, Kym

Sounds very much like a firewall problem. Turn off the firewall completely. Also check the proxy settings on the computer. (On XP this is Internet Options control panel and the LAN Settings button on the Connections tab.)
    Which firewall do you use?

  • Pages requested from Internet Explorer are loaded to a Firefox window instead.

I just started getting "Secure Connection Failed" upon trying to log into a financial website that always worked before, so I decided to see if the same problem existed using Internet Explorer. I terminated Firefox, then started IE, which came up OK with my blank home page. But when I entered the URL for the website's login page, instead of coming up in the IE window, a Firefox window automatically started up, and the requested page came up there instead. So basically, I'm prevented from using IE for anything.

When you enter the URL for a website in the Internet Explorer browser, the page should open in Internet Explorer. It is then possible that clicking other links within that website could open in Mozilla Firefox if Firefox is set as your default browser. You'd need to ensure that Internet Explorer is set as the default browser.
As this is the Firefox forum, I'd suggest checking the Microsoft forum for further assistance on your Internet Explorer settings.

  • How do I paste a photo ( jpeg) into the body of my email message- I can do it in Internet Explorer bu can't in Firefox

I can open up a photo from my "Pictures" file In Internet Explorer, copy it, then paste it into the body of my email message ( I use Earthlink webmail). I see the picture fine.
When I try to do the same procedure by opening, copy and pasting in Firefox, a box appears with a photo icon, but no photo. Even when I press "view image" it will not show the picture.
    What am I missing?

There's a utility available that solves this problem in gmail. It allows you to drag and drop any image on your system clipboard directly into Gmail. Check it out: picturepaste.com

  • My system needs internet explorer for a application I need to down load, however I need to down load the latest yahoo tool bar for internet explorer to work properly and firefox will not allow the down load of yahoo toolbar. How do I fix this?

I have not used Internet explorer since downloading firefox and I need IE for a trading platform that I need to use. In order to get IE working I apparently need to down load the latest version of Yahoo toolbar, however when I try to down load the tool bar Firefox will not allow the down load of that file.

Thank you so much, for once in my computer life I knew what the problem was, what caused it, why it was caused, what it did, what it made it do and most importantly how to fix it and to do it correctly and expeditiously. I can not Thank You all enough for all of the help! I also have Pogo mailed this to all on my friends list, where they have all learned as I have and have fixed theirs also. and the message is being spread. Thank You again, I just can not say it enough.

  • Google talk works in internet explorer but why not in firefox

I have used google talk for a long time. it suddendly does not work in google chrome. i installed firefox just today. it does not let me use google talk. BUT
it works in internet explorer. I would prefer to use firefox.
I had reinstalled the plugin after a download message.
    it is a new install.
    It does not work.
Your volunteering is greatly appreciated.[sort of the nurses of the media world]

Hi, Google Talk was due to be turned off at the end of 2014, so that's probably why it isn't working - ''''On October 30th, 2014, Google announced on their Apps Updates blog that "The Google Talk app for Windows will continue to work for approximately two months before being turned off", signalling the end of the Google Talk application by the end of 2014'''' ''Quote from Wikipedia'' - [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Talk full text here.]
