Internet Explorer for 2010 MacBook Pro
I have a 2010 MacBook Pro running OSX 10.9.2 and I need to run Internet Explorer to complete regulatory forms at the Energy Information Agency. I have tried CrossOver (which doesn't work) and can't download Virtual Box. Neither Safari nor Firefox is supported by the EIA. I could use Chrome if it were 64-bit. Does anyone have any suggestions? Short of buying a windows machine? Thanks.

Do you have any objections to running Windows on your Mac? That is the other way to get guaranteed IE compatibility. Since you just need to get at the web browser, you could use free VirtualBox and install the most minimal compatible Windows version you can find (like this one). This would be much cheaper than buying a Windows machine.
Also, you could try running IE within CrossOver, which is not a full virtualizer but seems to be able to run Windows IE on a Mac without having to buy/install Windows. I have not tried this myself, though; because I use Parallels Desktop to run Windows 8 only when needed.

How do I install Internet Explorer on my Macbook Pro?
How do I install Internet Explorer on my Macbook Pro?
Virtual Box free, Windows 7 Home Premium System Builder SP1 $92.
IE9 is and can be secure and work just fine and I do prefer it to others, but Firefox lets me work in Apple Community easier is all.
Safari still bogs down trying to open multiple tabs, isn't multi-thread efficient, isn't memory efficient or well behaved - beyond the advandages of keeping code in memory it is still a memory hog. Open the same 20 tabs in any other browser is the best way I know. I also don't trust Google that much for security, I consider Google tracking and adsense to be a nuisance. Firefox gives some semblance, especially with add-ons, to tracking, cookies, privacy, and blocking content the best.

How can I get internet explorer on my macbook pro?
How can I install internet explorer on my macbook pro? Thanks!
Install Windows 7 into a virtual machine program (IE comes with it), I suggest VirtualBox as it's free and gets updates for near forever. However VMFusion and Parallels has more features but then to drop you if you don't upgrade OS X.

How do I get Internet Explorer on my Macbook Pro?
I need to get on a website for work and it can only be run through internet explorer. Trust me, I know this *****, but I don't know how to get around it. So I need to find a way to get Internet Explorer on my Macbook Pro.
You run it through Windows or CrossOver Mac. The Mac OS X version of Windows Explorer doesn't work in 10.7 and won't be updated to do so or patch security holes.

Best firewire cable for 2010 macbook pro 13 to new Seagate drive?
Hi. Have an old 2010 macbook pro 13" running OS 10.6.8. Have a friewire 800 port. Need to hook up to a 4 TB Seagate back up plus drive (http://www.seagate.com/in/en/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/backup-plu s-desk/) While the specs on the drive clearly indicate that it is firewire 800 compatible, I'm not sure which cable to get. I'm told there are different pins, so what exactly do i need to ask for, to make my ageing 2010 macbook talk to my new(ish) seagate back up drive via firewire? Also, if anyone out there knows where I can source such a cable in India, I'd appreciate the advice. Thanks.

As far as I know, there are 2 types of charging methods.
1) Leave the charger attached to the MacBook Pro as frequently as possible. Basically the laptop is attached to the charger 24/7.
Leaving it attached 24/7 is not good - lithium-based batteries like the one in your MBP need to be used to maintain their health.
2) When the battery reached 100%, unplug the charger and use it with the battery only. And when it reaches a certain level indicated to connect the charger, then charge it.
This is what I have. Currently, I am doing option 2 since that is how I think batteries work.
#2 is also not good. You are thinking of the older nickel-based batteries, for which #2 was best.
The 'best' option is somewhere in the middle - use your battery frequently but lightly, an hour or two on battery a day, for a total of 1-2 cycles per week.

Internet recovery for 2010 MacBook w/ Snow Leopard?
Hi all,
Can I use Internet recovery for a 2010 13-inch MacBook that's currently running 10.6.8 if I update to Yosemite before erasing the drive? I want to erase and reinstall the OS because there's a bad block, but I can't find the original installation disk. (And actually, last time I *tried* to boot off that installation disk, the MacBook wouldn't read it anyway. So I'm not sure how hard to keep looking.) I know that there was a firmware update for this MacBook to use Internet Recovery, but that requires Lion; so I'm wondering now if I upgrade to Yosemite, would that automatically update the firmware? Thanks.Check here to find out: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. If your machine can be upgraded to use Internet Recovery, then download the appropriate firmware update and install it. Thereafter, you could use Internet Recovery to reinstall post-Snow Leopard versions of OS X.
The point is that unless you first install the firmware update, then you won't be able to use Internet Recovery to install OS X over the network Recovery HD. -
Kernel Panics for 2010 MacBook Pro 15" can anyone help?
This has been going on for a while now after the hard drive was originally replaced back in the summer. Tried fixing it myself, however no luck and it keeps coming back. Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks

You have got a Mid 2010 15-inch MacBook Pro, and your log is showing that the NVIDIA GPU is damaged.
Mid 2010 15-inch MacBooks Pro have got a damaged NVIDIA GPU that may cause unexpected restarts, kernel panics, black screens... See > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088
Apple is repairing all of these MacBooks Pro for free if they were purchased less than 3 years ago, so make a backup of your files with Time Machine and take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller. Also, print the log and take it with you -
RAM upgrade for 2010 Macbook Pro
I have the 13" Macbook Pro 2010 unibody model which I bought in May 2010. It has 4GB RAM installed when I bought it. I purchased two (4GB) RAM DDR3 204pin 1333Mhz. Will this be compatible? I want to upgrage the RAM to 8GB.
Hey boss I checked MacTracker and for the Early 2010 13" MBP (your model) it showed these specs:
2.0 or 4.0 GB PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs
Max RAM 8.0 GB
For the late 2010 13" MBP it showed these specs:
2.0 or 4.0 GB PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs
Max RAM 4.0 GB
To answer your question no you cannot install that memory you mentioned. It could cause damage to both the memory and to your macbook pro.
Download MacTracker it is a free app that shows specs for almost every Apple device made.
I hope this has helped you. -
DPC Latency workaround for 2010 Macbook Pros
Current workaround for 330M users:
1) Again use PowerMizer Manager to use a fixed performance level, it should not matter which one so you can also use the power saving 2D mode (may be different on your setup though).
2) Open the NVidia Control Panel and go to "Adjust image settings with preview" (you will see a spining NVidia logo). Put the animation on Pause and minimize the NVidia Control Panel.
3) You may or may not have to do this: Either switch off Aero, or better change the "Compatibility" settings of your DAW application to tell Windows only to turn off Aero (Desktop Composition) for this application.
Also watch out when setting display brightness or speaker volume via key (especially when an overlay is displayed), it may cause dropouts. You can change those by mouse via the respective settings without issues though.AttilaAfra on NVidia forum:
I still have DPC spikes (about 17000 µs) with the 266.58 driver on my HP EliteBook 8540p with NVS 5100M, Windows 7 64-bit. I've verified this with DPC Latency Checker, LatencyMon, and xperf. I have spikes also with the 266.35, 260.99, and 260.89 drivers. However, there are absolutely no DPC issues with 261.28, which was released only on Windows Update in December, only for Quadros in HP notebooks.
The NVS 5100 and FX 880 are based on the 330M GT chip. I modified the INF of the Microsoft build to install the FX 880 files for my 330M GT and lo and behold: No more DPC issues, neither in any mode (2D/3D) nor when switching modes.
I will have to do some test to see how professional audio applications are affected, but at the moment it seems that the maximum DPCs caused by the NVidia driver are down to what my rather clumsy workaround achieves.
You can find the modified INF attached to this post: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=157614&view=findpost&p=1182843 -
Internet Explorer for Mac 5.1 or higher
Please direct me to where/How I can download internet explorer for my macbook OSX
Given that the last time Microsoft even pretended to support IE/Mac was when the US federal budget still claimed to run a surplus, I infer the only reason to use IE/Mac instead of Safari, Firefox, Camino, or Opera et al. is that some site you need to access requires IE.
Bear in mind that if such a site makes use of ActiveX controls, it won't matter if you try IE/Mac; ActiveX is Windows only. However, a large number of sites that require IE do so because the site's programmers were too busy and/or lazy to check their coding was HTML-compliant and work with other browsers. A cheap shortcut to testing the code is to have the site check the browser the visitor is using and refuse anything other than the browser the developer used.
That can be bypassed by having the visitor's browser report that it's actually another browser and even another platform. That can be done by telling the browser to report it's "user agent" identity to be something else, such as IE5/Mac or IE6/Windows (the latter is probably more useful).
You can set the User Agent in Safari by unlocking the Debug Menu. To enable Safari’s Debug Menu, open Applications> Utilities> Terminal when Safari is closed and enter:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
Restart Safari to see the Debug Menu.
Set the User Agent to the desired state just before attempting to go to the site for which you need IE/Mac.

Late 2010 MacBook Pro Cannot Connect to Internet
Hello, First time posting a question here.
I have a late 2010 Macbook Pro 15" i5, 2.4Ghz, currently running 10.6.8. At my apartment the provided wifi has been spotty for several months. In the past I have been able to turn off my airport using the dock at the top of my screen, wait a little while (30 seconds or so) and turn it back on. I would get wifi back and then be able to resume to use the Internet.
Recently, however, I have been having extreme issues with connectivity. I will see full bars on the airport display but my dropbox icon (what I use to test connectivity real quick) will keep indicating that I am not connected to the internet. For the past week I was able to get internet with an ethernet cable plugged into the router, ONLY if my airport was turned off.
Now I cannot even get internet through the ethernet cable.
Here are some things I have been able to eliminate.
Bad computer hardware - My computer instantly connects to the wifi at my family home, on campus and where ever I have ever been. I get reliable, un-interupted internet connectivity.
Bad Wifi signal - All other devices (including the ipad I am writing this on) connect immediately to the wifi with no problems with connectivity.
About my computer:
OS: 10.6.8
CPU: intel i5 2.4 GHz
Memory: 4Gb 1067 MHz DDR3
About my Router:
Ubee DWW365 Wireless Cable Modem
ISP: Charter
I have indeed rebooted my router, but not luck yet.Hi Cyberviper42,
I understand that you are seeing some issues with your connection to the internet on your computer. I have an article for you that will help you troubleshoot this issue:

Mid 2010 Macbook Pro Keeps Restarting due to Kernel Panic. Ideas for how to fix?
So my Mid 2010 Macbook Pro keeps randomly restarting, and giving me a screen that says something like "your computer restarted due to a problem."
Looks like it as a kernel panic, but I have no idea what this is. Seems to be no pattern for when it crashes. Used to do it maybe once a month and now this is the 5th time in two days.
Any idea what might be going on? Looked at past threads but nothing seemed to apply.

Hi all... My mid 2010 MacBook Pro took a keyboard spill. It still works but the display is very very dark. A faint image can only be seen at an angle in very bright light. I think this model has an LED screen. Can anyone please tell me what the fix for this is? Thank you sooooo much!

Some liquid has just spilled into your Mac. What should you do?
Do
Immediately shut down the computer and unplug the power cord.
Remove the computer's battery (if you can)
Disconnect any peripherals (printers, iPods, scanners, cameras, etc.)
Lay the computer upside down on paper towels to get as much liquid as possible to drip out.
Note what was spilled on your Mac.
Bring the computer into an Apple store or AASP as soon as possible.
Don't
Don't try to turn it back on. Liquids can help electrical current move about the components of your Mac in destructive ways.
Don't shake the computer (this will only spread the liquid around).
Don't use a hair dryer on it (even at a low setting a hair dryer will damage sensitive components).
