Internet Explorer Mac 5.2.3 crashes in Leopard

I'm aware that this browser is unsupported and completely dead for various reasons. It did run on Tiger, but not on Leopard anymore here.
1) Can anyone please confirm that IE Mac 5.2.3 crashes (PPC OS X dmg from browsers.evolt.org)
2) I don't expect this to run on an Intel Mac at all. Did it run on an Intel Mac on Tiger?
Thanks.

Hi Gordon,
It runs fine in 10.4.11, and even Leopard, here's a link to download it...

  • Internet Explorer 5.1.7 Freezing / crashing/ out of memory

    I have regular crashes, randomly from 5 to 120 mins when on the internet.
    I have a G3 blue and white with 350mhz processor running 9.2.2 with 512Mb ram. Internet Explorer 5.1.7.
    I have always had problems with crashing on this machine even from new when it originally ran an earlier Os9 and earlier Internet Explorer software on dial up 56k.I am now on Broadband.
    I cannot explain why i get these crashes so frequently. I have tried giving internet explorer program 50Mb of ram.I have adjusted cache size ranging from zero (broadband) up to 50Mb.I have played around with virtual memory on/off, but still i have crashes. I have all the relevant software updates for my machine also.
    If it does not freeze completely then it exits from Explorer and i get Type 2 or Type 3 errors and have to restart the machine instead.
    Could it be that i have problems with my Ram installed in my machine ?
    I have tried running my machine with only Mac Os base extensions installed but this also crashes regularly.
    I have also wiped my hard drive and done fresh installations but i still have problems.
    Please Help ! before i pull out or my hair or throw my machine out the window and buy a Windows PC ( Insanity setting in ).

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    This may be of some help: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106874
    Have you tried another browser?
    I found IE 5.1.7 better than earlier versions but still prone to crash so changed to WaMCom from http://wamcom.org/ and got much better results (it is based on Mozilla 1.3.1).
    Some prefer iCab 3.0 from http://www.icab.de/

  • Internet Explorer & Mac

    I am a business owner & I use my Mac book pro for it. One of my contracts requires that I submit reports through their online system In order to get paid.  This system is of course Internet Explorer based & I am unable to access the system on my Mac. Help please it is becoming more difficult to try & find a PC to use to finish my work. Advice?

    If you already have Windows installed then just boot into Windows (or virtual run it using VMWare) and use Internet Explorer.  This is what I do when I need to access my corporate intranet.  And while there are more viruses out there for Windows computers than Macs being diligent and smart will keep you from getting viruses.  I personally only visit trusted sites, run the personal firewall in Windows, and make sure I don't open attachments from people I don't know.  I've never had a virus in the 15+ years I've used Windows.

  • Firefox crashed, can't open it at all, having to go thru internet explorer to use computer. Crashed when two firefox updates were done. Refreshing and rebooting didn't work. How do I fix this so my computer runs again with firefox?

    We heard firefox had crashed, friend 4 hours away has same problem. She got hers fixed but even tho I can get a message that firefox is running , its not functioning so I can use it. Had two updates to do, one automatically, one I started at firefox request. Since then, we can't get on the internet or any programs. Unless you can tell me what's wrong, I'll have to have a computer company come in to fix problem.

    It is always a good idea to back up your bookmarks, if you are able to do that now it may help, and if you are considering using them in an alternative browser it may be a good idea to back them up as HTML as well as the default .json files.
    * see [[Backing up and restoring bookmarks]]
    Have you read the articles shown in my first message above with the blue clickable links. One of the first things to try is using Firefox in firefox [[safe mode]] which should be available from your program list, BUT when trying that on the first dialogue do not make changes just click on continue.
    *Does that work ?
    * did you see the list of options and click on the continue button ?
    * are you seeing any error messages ?

  • Adobe Reader 9.1 and Internet Explorer 8.0 pdf link crash

    I have three PC's running XP Pro SP3, with Adobe Reader 9.1.
    On one of these systems, pdf files can be loaded, but when I click on pdf links in web pages, the browser crashes.
    If someone could please help me by defining what further information might be helpful in troubleshooting this, I'd be most appreciative.  A definite clue is probably provided by this comment in application event viewer:
    Faulting application iexplore.exe version 8.0.6001.18702 faulting module acrord32.dll, version 9.1.0.163, fault address 0x000d51b6
    Thanks so much for any help!

    I actually backed out Adobe 9 and installed Adobe 8 and that resolved my issue of IE crashing when trying to open an Adobe file.
    I tried everything before doing this.  From backing out IE 8 to 7 and just reinstalling Adobe 9 and continued to have the same problem.

  • Internet Explorer (11.0.9600.17207) crashes on 2nd lookup selection in JS Grid page - Project Server 2010 (SP1)

    Hi all,
    we are facing a scenario that crashes IE (11.0.9600.17207). When a user with IE 11 with that version opens a grid page (project schedule for example) and updates a lookup field, IE will crash when the user expands the lookup field widget for the 2nd time.
    This scenario is not recreated on previous IE 11 versions.
    We traced the error to the CustomFieldWidget.js file line 149 (form.appendchild...):
    function AddFormInputField(form, name, value)
       {ULSQRm:;
        var el=document.createElement('input');
        el.type='hidden';
        el.name=el.id=name;
        el.value=value;
        form.appendChild(el);
    Can someone from Microsoft verify if there is alreaedy an open issue about it?
    Thanks,
    Roy
    Royg

    Thanks everyone,
    The issue was resolved when my IE updated recently (it's set to update automatically).
    the update IE version is 11.0.9600.17239 and the issue can no longer be replicated.
    I don't know if the bug is resolved (e.g. if an error is not thrown in that scenario) but at least the client handles it well and doesn't crash.
    Kind regards,
    Roy

  • Disappointed!! I've been using Firefox since the start. Had a few problems but nothing insurmountable until now!! I'm using Internet Explorer now as FF constantly crashes and won't open anything but my home page. Someone help.

    FF goes to my homepage and then stays there. Will not open bookmarks or any other sites at all.
    When I close FF it closes the window but remains active. Can't even close the process in task manager and have to reboot PC.
    This seems to have happened when FF upgraded to 6.0. since then I have uninstalled 6.0 and reverted to 4.0 in the hope that this will solve the problem but to no avail.
    I'm now at the end of my tether and I'm no longer using FF. Don't want to use IE but I have no choice until this is resolved or decide which other browser will take FF's place. Anyone help?

  • Installing Internet Explorer 5.1.7

    G3 B&W - 512 MB -350MHZ - OS 9.1 - USB HP  PRINTER.
    When I have installed IE 5.1.7 it fails to designate this version in the banner of "About  Internet Explorer".It declares  boldly "Internet Explorer: mac 5.1"  At the bottom of the page it registers 5.1.7 (5815). A year ago I discovered fix it/add on that corrected this and in addition streamlined the preference file(edit). My hard drive crashed recently and I replaced it, but I have failed to find a site or download that returns me to my former Internet Explorer:  mac 5.1.7  All the downloads I  have attempted register Internet Explorer: mac 5.1 And yes, I know it is a version of 5.1.7 but I want  "mac: 5.1.7" cited in my  About Internet Explorer.
    I am not the only mac addict that is requesting this resolution - dozen upon dozen are searching for this solution. Other forums have failed to resolve this.
    Thanks for being here. I hope you can help.

    I switched to Mozilla for OS 9 & like it better than IE. It works on web pages that IE has problems with. Plus, Mozilla has a pop-up ad blocker & a password manager. Download Wamcom's Mozilla browser at:

  • Google crashes Internet Explorer and Mac OS

    From about 8 June 2007 google.com searches have consistently crashed Internet Explorer on Macs. This happens every time with Internet Explorer 5.1.7 on OS 9 and Internet Explorer 5.2 on OS X. The situation for OS 9 is particularly serious as often the OS also crashes. Repeated crashes of this type can damage disks.
    Many UK users will not have noticed this bug as google.com has recently started redirecting to google.co.uk but, unless fixed by Google, these crashes will be with us for a long time especially for Google forms on non-Google sites and historic URLs.
    You can try this for yourself with the following links:
    1. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=googlecrashesie
    2. http://www.google.com/search?q=googlecrashesie
    At the time of writing link 2 will lock up Internet Explorer every time. It appears that the problem is restricted to Macs - perhaps because versions of Internet Explorer beyond 5.x are not available for either OS 9 or OS X. Many webmasters do not appreciate that there are still many users who prefer to use this old browser particularly on old Macs that are too slow to mount OS X. There are still a lot of these around (including early iMacs) used as second or home Macs.
    Whilst one or two crashes are unlikely to do any significant lasting damage repeated crashes on OS 9 followed by the necessary forced quits can cause unpredictable and significant loss of disk data.

    On the OS 9.x side, you should try other browsers:
    Mozilla v1.3.1(Wamcom)
    Netscape Browser Archive
    Netscape v7.0.2
    MacUpdate-NC v7.0.2
    iCab v3

    MacLynx (Text only browser)
    As you probably already know: "WARNING:" Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer for Mac on December 31st, 2005, and is not providing any further security or performance updates.
    Accordingly, as of January 31st, 2006, Internet Explorer for the Mac is no longer available for download from Microsoft.

  • Crashing Internet Explorer on Windows XP.

    I've noticed that the "bio" page on my website will crash Internet Explorer. It's the latest version, running without any unusual plugins on Windows XP Pro. My website is http://web.mac.com/droeber/iWeb/Roeber.com/bio.html and I've used the Modern theme.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
    I have resolved my crashes - here is how i did it. I spoke to Apple Support, they were nice, but not able to help me. They said it was really Microsoft's fault. Doesn't really matter whose fault it is, since IE on the PC is what most of the world and for me, it is really 98% of my customers and target market, so its gotta work for that platform.
    Jdang's previous post regarding offending PNGs provided me the hint. I decided to rebuild my site, one graphic at a time, and post, and test on a PC running IE until i found the offender. In my case, i was using lines, dotted style, running vertically as well as horizontally to give my page some spatial separation. Those lines were the offenders in my case - took them off and the site works perfectly on IE for the PC.
    my site is: http://www.leadline.com (I forward my domain with a mask to it)
    or: http://web.mac.com/pthean/iWeb/LL/Home.html
    Took me 2 hours to rebuild it piece by piece and test - so it really does not take that long. You just need to borrow a PC, upload after every new object and test. Once I found the offending graphic, I got braver and put up whole pages before I tested. As long as you can track yourself so that you know what to reverse back to in the event of IE crashing, you can find the offender rather easily (though painfully).
    Cheers!

  • .png and Internet Explorer Crashes

    My website also causes internet explorer to crash (mattersmostmedia.org) as others have reported.
    Someone also mentioned that it is because iweb exports to .png files that can't be read by IE.
    Is there any way to change that? It is slightly crucial that IE can access my site.
    Thanks

    Dan,
    I posted this same note under the topic "Crashes internet explorer on Windows XP". I had a very similar problem, and I have resolved my issue. Here is the same note, I hope it helps you as well.

  • Firefox and internet explorer doesnt work with mac os 10.4.7

    i can't seem to get firefox and Internet explorer to work on my g4 da mac with os 10.4.7. any suggestions...

    Did they ever work for you?
    Did you recently install some new software or make a hardware change to your machine?
    The first rule of thumb with misbehaving applications is to erase the Application's preferences and then try it again, but that might be somewhat dangerous considering that you could accidentally erase all of your bookmarks/favorites in the process.
    I'm running Mac OS 10.4.7 and I can get FireFox 1.07, 1.5, and 2.0, plus IE 5.2.3 to run, in addition to other browsers like Safari 2, OmniWeb 5.5, Netscape 7.2, and Opera 8.5 and 9.
