Internet Explorer on Sun Ray Client?

Ok, I know it's sacralidge (sp?), but I'm planning a solution that would satisfy a requirement of using MS Internet Explorer browsers - possibly on a Sun Ray Server thin client environment.
The solution is a Hospitality focused in-room Kiosk project.
Can this be done?
Any tips would be much appreciated.
Thx!

Not to throw this way off tangent, but is the "requirement" for Internet Exploiter ... er ... Exploder ... er ... that MS security hole ... {grumble} ... is it technical or "just because"? As long as the page doesn't use ActiveX or other MS-proprietary code, it should run fine under Firefox or Mozilla.

  • Sun Ray Clients Software

    Hello,
What software must be installed in Sun Ray Clients?
    No software is needed?
    Thanks.

There is no Software installed in the client
The Client loads a Firmware via TFTP . The End User does not
interact with this Firmware. The firmware fills the same function as
the BIOS does on a PC. But there is normally no user configuration possible.
The only possible situation where a user can configure the firmware is when the Sun ray is used remotely over the internet with VPN, Then a special version of the firmware is used and the enduser has to configure the VPN parameters , since he is nolonger connected to the INTRA-net DHCP service.
All SOFTWARE for the Sun Ray solution is loaded on the Server.

Needs software to access pdf files on sun ray client , with mozilla firefoX or Sea monkey as a browsers
Tried to install pdf getting error ,
Needs technique or technical troubleshooting steps to access pdf files on mozilla or sea monkey or other solaris compatible Browsers on Sun ray client

You can still install Acrobat Reader, Evince or Xpdf to read PDF files. But if you want that the PDF file should be displayed in a browser windows, then you can forget Evince in the previous list, or you can consider to use Firefox 19 or higher that incorpore a buid-in PDF viewer.

  • 27D error on Sun Ray client

My Sun Ray setup was working before i tried to reconfigure the Admin Gui. Once the GUI changes were added i rebooted the server and the clients would not come up. Instead of booting, they display a 27D error along with an hourglass and a DHCP address. Can someone please tell me how to get them running again. Thanks.

  • Sun Ray Client and VDI 3.0

    Hello,
I have a working VDI 2.0 setup and an evaluation VDI 3.0 setup. However, when I point my Sun Ray term, using the GUI firmware, to the VDI 3.0 server I don't get a login screen - just that its connected.
    Am I missing something?

Hi again, I just replied to your other thread.
I was having the same problem, when I assigned the pseudo token ID to a virtual machine/desktop.
If that's the case, try unassigning it, and you should get the login prompt.

  • After Internet Explorer 11 Deployment The client make "Force" Restart

    Hello,
I have created an application Deployment of Internet explorer 11.
i created a MSI package using "internet explorer customization wizard 11" ( In the restart Option I chose: " No restart")
in the deployment of the application i unchecked  the " System Restart".
Although of all that ,the user still get "Force" restart at the end of the deployment (installation).
There is any explanation to that Restart Action ?
    Thanks And Regards,
    Ariel Wainberg.

Just because you told ConfigMgr not to restart doesn't mean the command-line you are running won't force a restart. All ConfigMgr does is run the command you give it -- whatever that command-line does, is up to that command-line and beyond that explicit
    control of ConfigMgr.
When you say the user is getting a forced restart, what does that mean? Does the ConfigMgr restart countdown show or does the system simply restart?

  • Sun ray thin client

    Hi ,,,
Suppose we have two servers with two different applications and one Sun Ray Server. How could we direct the Sun Ray Client Sessions to these two application servers simultaneousely??
    Regards,
    Basem

I'd look at logging in to the application servers individually, using ssh and then tunnelling the X display back to the Sun Ray client.
Something like ssh -X host1 on one terminal window and then ssh -X host2 in the other terminal window.
I think this may work. It does on Linux anyway.

  • Sun Ray connector interface is invalid

I think I have some kind of configuration problem with my Sun Ray server. When I try to run the utadm -A "I.P. address" command, it comes up at the end with a message about the "Sun Ray connector interface is invalid" or something like that. The problem seems to be with this because the Sun Ray server will not update the firmware on the Sun Ray Clients. Even using the utfwadm -A -e "MAC address" to force an update it just sets it up in the dhtptab.conf file with the macro to download the firmware but when I power cycle the Sun Ray client it does not update the firmware. The only thing I can think of is that it must have something to do with the "Sun Ray connector interface is invalid" error that is preventing it from updating.
The DHCP server will also not update the "LeaseTime" nor the "LeaseNeg" options that I have configured.
Can someone tell me how to get rid of the "Sun Ray connector interface is invalid" error and/or if this might be what is preventing my firmware updates to my Sun Ray clients?
    Thanks,

    I have the same issue . . .
    1. Sun Ray 5 (Sun Ray 4.2)
    2. SRWC 2.2
    3. Solaris 10 u9 X86 on two x2200
    4. Terminal Server on Win2K3 R2 Standard x64 Edition SP2
I have a handful of users and they all logon the same way, which is to enter username & password then I have the following lines at the end of the users' individual .dtprofile file . . .
    <begin snip>
    DTSOURCEPROFILE=true
    /opt/SUNWuttsc/bin/uttsc -b -m -O -u uname 192.168.100.29
    exit
    <end snip>
Of course 'uname' is actually the user name followed by the Terminal Server IP address and as you can see I am using the '-O' option, but every morning all the users on a server have their Sun Ray sessions reset and I find this in the messages file . . .
Mar 16 09:38:31 sunraya Sun Ray Connector proxy:[12941]: [ID 855542 user.error] Child closed socket prematurely, session shutdown
    . . . . Using cron, I reset the Sun Ray service twice a day on both servers at 7AM and 7PM . . .
    # cat /sunray-restart.script
    # This is to restart SunRay 5 service due to
    # what I think may be a memory leak that disconnects
    # the SunRay Windows Connector every day
    /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utrestart -c
    echo "#" >> /var/adm/messages
    date >> /var/adm/messages
    echo "#" >> /var/adm/messages
    echo " RESTARTING SUNRAY SERVICE " >> /var/adm/messages
    echo "#" >> /var/adm/messages
    echo "#" >> /var/adm/messages
. . . But this does not appear to having an affect.
I will be looking around the forums for any other bits of information about this. The "Known Issues" can probably be found in the Release Notes.

  • Is Sun Ray a suitable solution for system administrators?

My company is deciding if Sun Ray can be a viable solution for system administrators for additional level of security since Sun Ray clients are diskless...less worries about malware or virus...etc.
However, looking through Sun's available thin client machines, there is no selection of laptop form. As you can guess, sysadmins are mostly remote and on the go...it cannot be expected that they are always at their desks or homes to access the thin client machines. I understand the availability of the web client solution...however, have my doubts about that and how much would sysadmins actually embrace it.
On the other hand, the inability of copy & paste as they are currently doing with traditional thick clients can be problematic too. One use case is when they test and build config on their desktops (say notepad), then upload to server hosts...or opposite, when they need to download logs to their machines and investigate...
I am not going into questions about support of OS X and other tools sysadmins usually use...since the support of true remote access will be the biggest hurdle up front.
    Any comments?

Hmmm. Very late to this conversation, but couldn't help to throw some change into the hat.
For casual use of light-weight, non-power hungry applications, running apps via SGD over a Sun Ray (soft client or not) is probably ok. But if you were to try to do this for normal users who need PC-like performance, you'd be delusional. Display information will travel over the network 3 times and you can't take advantage of any of the new, faster graphics capabilities of the newer Sun Ray's when you introduce SGD as the means to access Windows desktop applications.
    To be explicit:
Sun-Ray -> Sun Ray Server uses ALP.
Sun Ray Server -> SGD uses AIP.
SGD Server -> Windows Server uses RDP.
If you deploy this widely, better go buy some stock in Cisco.
I'd use SGD only for remote PC/Mac/Unix users who need to bounce in from the wild west.
I'd use Sun Ray -> Sun Ray Servers + Windows connector (uttsc) for thin client access.

  • Monitoring Sun Ray Server health

I am interested in deploying Sun Ray Server as a component of a large VDI implementation. I want to be able to monitor the health of the Sun Ray Server software beyond the standard OS level stuff - number of concurrent Sun Ray Client connections for example. Is there an API (or some other mechanism) available for me to create an agent that can be monitored with standard monitoring software? Thanks!

Thanks for the info, however, I'm not looking for monitoring software - my organization already uses the IBM Tivoli suite quite successfully. I'm interested in more info on the specific Sun Ray APIs available to me to mine some health data. Thanks.

  • Internet explorer needed

i need to use the internet explorer for my citrix client based business system. I cannot log into my business without the Internet Explorer. Where can I purchase this software?

Instead of using an outdated and unsupported browser, you may be able to use a newer browser like Safari, Firefox, or Camino (my choice) and use agent spoofing which forces the broswer to ID itself as IE, tricking the site into thinking that it is communicating with IE.
I use this all the time on troublesome sites. I use Camino and CamiTools - both free - but it can be done with Safari when you enable the debug menu by entering this text -
    % defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
    into a Terminal window.
Of course if none of this works, then you will have no choice, but I would give it a shot. IE is just not a very good broswer for Macs, especially now that it is no longer being developed by MS.

  • Cannot update firmware on Sun Ray 170

    Hi all,
I need to update the firmware on a Sun Ray so I get the GUI firmware, as I need to enter the server IP manually.
    I run this:
    /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utfwadm -AaV -f /opt/SUNWut/lib/firmware_gui -u
    and get the output:
    CoronaP1 GUI4.0_48_2007.08.01.15.48
    CoronaP2 GUI4.0_48_2007.08.01.15.48
    CoronaP3 GUI4.0_48_2007.08.01.15.48
    CoronaP4 GUI4.0_48_2007.08.01.15.48
    CoronaP5 GUI4.0_48_2007.08.01.15.48
    CoronaP6 GUI4.0_48_2007.08.01.15.48
    CoronaP7 GUI4.0_48_2007.08.01.15.48
    SunRayP8 GUI4.0_48_2007.08.01.15.48
    and then this:
    /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utfwload -HalL
For this command I get the output:
    Upgrading units to version GUI4.0_48_2007.08.01.15.48:
DISP User IP Address Model.Mac Firmware Version
    3.0 ???? 192.168.201.230 OEMRayP7.0003bad74e7b MfgPkg_3.32,nocrypt-03,REV=2005.06.03.15.20
And the Sun Ray shows it firmware update icon for a second, and then display a pink/purple bar along the top of the screen, on causing the screen to refresh, by for example logging in, the pink bar goes away. The Sun Ray is left unupgraded however.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks
    Garry

I have had no trouble in the past upgrading firmware.
After the initial utfwadm command I do a utfwsync. This will force a download of the firmware but will disconnect all users.
Then afterwards I check the firmware on the sun ray client with the usual ctrl-V and Pause key.

  • Internet Explorer Lock-up with Sun Java 1.4.2_03

I apologize immediately if this is a repeat question.
I have a few users all using Windows 2000 Professional. When they were using a 1.3 version of Sun Java with Internet Explorer (5.5+), everything worked fine. But as soon as I required them to download and upgrade to the latest Sun Java 1.4.2_03, the Internet Explorer locks up instantly when an applet is loading. Although I have not checked the Console for specific information, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are found anything about internet explorer not responding with JAVA 1.4.2? I have the same problem then you and I found nothing on the web.
    Thank you
