Internet Explorer vs Safari

I just switched to a Mac after about a decade of using PC's (due to work). Unfortunately, there's a website that I need to access but Safari can't open. It's asking for me to select an application in order to open the site. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

i thought this duo-core thing's supposed to be able to
handle both windows & mac stuff?
It does. You just need to have Windows installed in a second partition (or be running something like Virtual PC, Parallels or GuestPC).
From a security perspective, I would be suspicious of any website that automatically downloaded a .exe file to my desktop - if I were running a PC.
I wouldn't download Windows Media Player. It's trash (in my opinion). Instead, download Flip4Mac. Basically that app plays Windows Media content through Quicktime. Really nice.

  • All styling gone in Internet Explorer AND Safari

    Hi everyone .. well I have had my fair share of internet explorer hell but this one is really weird. When I view site http://kimberleywebdesign.com.au/Links.html in firefox .. the site looks how its supposed to look but when I view it in Internet Explorer or Safari, it looks like its lost its style sheet.
    If anyone has had this problem and more importantly knows how to fix it, HELP!!

    The answer is here -
    <!--<script type="text/javascript" src="swfobject.js"></script>-->
              <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--               swfobject.registerObject("slideshow", "9.0.0", "expressInstall.swf");
              </script>
    First, all of your HTML comments are improperly formed - there needs to be a space between the last dash of <!-- and the next character, e.g.,
    <!-- <script
    Next, you have a spurious opening comment tag without a closing one.  IE thinks that the rest of the head content is a comment, hence the loss of CSS.  Remove that opening comment group and you'll be fine.  Mostly....

    I cannot get on the internet using either IE or safari. I get this message " The application explorer has unexpectedly quit" same for Safari.
    Please help
    Darly

    Darly,
    First thing to try is to fix permissions. Go to Applications : Utilities and run Disk Utility (it may be called something else in 10.2, can't recall, but it will have Disk in the name). Then select your OS X volume and click "repair permissions" toward the bottom of the screen.
    You should also restart the computer while holding down the command-S keys. When the stuff stops scrolling on the screen, enter
    /sbin/fsck -yf
    to repair your hard disk.
    If it finds errors, run fsck again (enter the same thing as above) until it says the hard disk is OK. Then enter
    reboot
    to restart OS X.
    If those two things don't fix it, then you have a serious problem and may have to reinstall the OS.

  • Problems with modalPanel in Internet Explorer and Safari

    Hello there,
    I am working on a JSF (Richfaces) application. To handle advanced searches and confirm boxes I am using the richfaces modalPanel dialog, which uses Ajax. There are a number of re-rendering problems.
    1. First of all, any errors won't display in any browser (including Firefox). From what I can tell it has to do with it refreshing the page before the error message can be displayed in <h:messages />.
    2. In Safari and IE there is no refresh for advanced search dialog, where the modalPanel shows, but does not seem to call the search action and rerender the list. It's almost as if it does nothing. In IE it closes the dialog, but does nothing. In Safari it doesn't even close the dialog. I'm assuming this is relating to the JavaScript the RichFaces library uses. Any ideas??? I'm nervous to change frameworks at this time since I am in the last leg of the project.
    Here's a code example of the advanced search, which does not refresh the list screen.
    Code:
    <rich:modalPanel id="advancedSearch" width="220" height="420">
                 <f:facet name="header">
                    <h:outputText value="#{msgs.advancedSearch}" />
                 </f:facet>
                 <f:facet name="controls">
                         <h:graphicImage value="/images/btn_logout.gif" width="15" style="cursor:pointer" onclick="Richfaces.hideModalPanel('advancedSearch')" />
                 </f:facet>
                   <h:form>
                        <a4j:commandLink action="bookList" reRender="bookList"   oncomplete="{Richfaces.hideModalPanel('advancedSearch');}" >
                             <h:graphicImage class="searchIcon" id="advSearchGraphc" value="/images/btn_search_UP.gif" alt="#{msgs.search}" />
                        </a4j:commandLink>
                   </h:form>
             </rich:modalPanel>     As you can see I am calling reRender="bookList" which is the id of the datatable. From what I can tell the problem is something to do with the javascript not running properly on IE and Safari.
    <rich:dataTable width="644" id="bookList" rows="12" value="#{Book.list}" var="book">     How can I get around this?
    Any pointers would be hugely appreciated.
    Jared

    I suggest you to post your question in the JBoss RichFaces forum, good luck!

  • Safari and Internet Explorer

    I just purchased a Mac Mini and this is the first Mac. I have owned but have worked with them at work. I've come to a small issue with Internet Explorer and Safari. I would prefer to use I.E. however, when in I.E. and I goto www.securecomputing.com (The top menu bar shows doubles) if I use Safari it doesn't. If in I.E. and I goto www.search.com, I don't see the Search logo at the top. If I use Safari I do. Whats going on in I.E. ? Anyone have any ideas ? If you have any ideas please e-mail me direct to: [email protected]

    Music urls ending in asf are actually scripts calling up the music. Some of these scripts work on the Mac, but some web sites incorporate proprietary Windows-only technologies or else call up music containing Microsoft's Windows-only digital rights management. Sometimes you can look at the source code for the web page and find the address for the actual music file or radio station and you can then cut and paste it into Windows Media Player. If the file does not contain DRM, it should play.

  • Safari vs Internet explorer question

    We recently got a new system at work that allows us to access our scheduling information over the internet. We use to use citrix to connect to the server to retrieve the info but now we can get it via the internet. My question is, in order to get the scheduloe window to display you must use I.E. 6.0. I have tried Safari, Firefox, Netscape and others but they always get a message that says browser not supported. What could possibly be the difference or reason that one browser would work and all these others cannot display the iformation. The system that we have is made by SABRE. Any help or ideas are appreciated. Our help desk at work are a bunch of idiots.
    John

    It's also entirely possible that the people who built the web application did not want to bother testing the entire thing in other web browsers, without any technical reason to do so. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Mozilla, etc. might do slightly different things for any given web page, and having worked as a developer for 5+ years in companies that build web-based applications, I can tell you with absolute certainty that "the easy way out" is to just say "this thing only works in Internet Explorer, period" and add a check that kicks out any web browser that isn't running Internet Explorer. Follow the instructions in one of the other posts to tell Safari how masquerade as Internet Explorer. I think it's possible to make a similar change to Firefox. Either one, you'll be able to trick the web server into thinking you're running IE and you'll quickly discover if the webapp actually works or not for non-IE browsers.

  • Safari vs Internet Explorer

    I just received an IPAD. My main purpose is to be able to access my Realtor Mls Sites for business. They are only compatable with Internet Explorer not Safari. Does anyone know of an APP that may help me.

    If the web site is so badly designed as to require Internet Explorer and refuses to accept any other browser, then sorry, but there's nothing you can do other than to use IE on a Windows-based computer, and pressure the site's developers to adopt industry-standard web coding techniques rather than using vendor-proprietary methods.

  • Safari vs. Internet Explorer: Icon previews

    Hi there,
    My friend just switched from Internet Explorer to Safari, and although he loves Safari, there is one major feature that he misses (and now, I realize that I miss this feature as well!):
    Whenever he drags-and-drops an image from a website onto his desktop, Internet Explorer creates a beautiful preview icon of the image... it's perfect, and easy to recognize what the file is! But, when you drag an image onto the desktop from Safari, it creates a generic Preview icon.
    Is there any way to fix this behavior in Safari?
    Thanks!
    Scott

    I'm having the same problem with images dragged and dropped from Safari. It doesn't happen with Internet Explorer so it makes me assume the problem is with Safari and not Preview. With Preview in Tiger (v. 3.0.1), the preferences are set up differently than in Panther. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I do a lot of image research online and can't use Safari because of this bug.
    Thanks

  • Safari & Internet Explorer 500 Internal Server Error

    Hello,
    I keep getting a 500 Internal Server Error An unknown error occured everytime I go onto either Internet Explorer or Safari.
    I have resetted safari and IE but I am still getting the error. However if i go onto hotmail then it loads up but when I go to sign in the error returns.
    I've also uninstalled and reinstalled safari but the problem is still occuring.
    Any help?

    A 500 Server Error is an error that comes from the server. In other words, something is wrong with the site you're trying to go to; it's not a problem with your computer or browser.

    Is the 'NAME' attribute required for the APPLET ? If not, just remove it or specify 'f01' (assuming you don't have any other apex_item generated items in the page) instead.

  • Dropping support for Internet Explorer 8,  and  Firefox 20.x or below

    Starting April 30th, we will discontinue support for all Internet Explorer 8 versions and all Firefox 20 versions and below. In order to continue using Business Catalyst Admin user interface without problems, you and your clients need to upgrade to a more recent browser:
    Download Internet Explorer
    Download Safari
    Download Chrome
    Download Firefox

    Thanks for your reply Shay.
    We plan to officially support IE8 with the next patch release to JDeveloper 11g - currently planned for later this year.That matches what I wrote in my initial post in this forum thread about IE8 support.
    We usually only certify browsers after they officially go production.That does not really answer my question (q1) in this forum thread.
    It is more like, how can I assess that Oracle will support any successor(s) of IE8 or successor(s) of any currently supported browsers for ADF 11g applications in the future? How long will Oracle support "commonly used browsers" for an ADF 11g application I build today, so how long will I be able to use that application?
    How do I answer such questions for ADF 11g applications that should be deployed on the internet (where, as some extranet environments, you typically have not that much (or no) control over which browsers your users use ... although some would like to argue with that, see forum thread "ADF Faces RC browser support and browser market share")?
    (By the way, do you have any feedback for the forum thread "ADF 10g support for Internet Explorer 8"?)

  • Use Internet Explorer on MacBook Pro?

    I need Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher to use a particular website for work occasionally.  Can I download this from Microsoft without causing any problems with my MacBook Pro and, if so, how do I do that?  I couldn't find anything on the Microsoft website that looked promising.

    You can "spoof" the server and make Safari act like Internet Explorer.
        Safari > Preference > Advanced
        Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
        Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
        Click "Develop" in the Safari menu bar.
        From the dropdown click "User Agent",then Internet Explorer.
        Default is"Default Automatically Chosen".
        This is not a perfect solution but may work.

    Explanation
    The server is unable to service a request because a needed resource is unavailable.

    Hi, I have the same problem, but I have been using firefox 10 for some time. Everything worked well until 3 days ago, when I could not access my internet banking account. As above, I got a service unavailable message from my bank.
    I can connect with internet explorer and safari. I have removed firefox 10 and reinstalled it, but still can not access my bank.

  • Swf link not working in Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer but works in Safari

    Hi,
    I'm sorry but Im a real newbie and really need help!!!
    On the homepage of my website I have put a swf file that I linked to another page in my website through the div a href link and it displays great on safari and links, however in other browsers, when i try to click on it, it comes up with the link at the bottom of the browser (where it sometimes says Done), however it doesnt actually link, it jsut stays on the homepage.
    Here is the coding i put in:

                </object>
                </noscript>
              </a>
              </p>
            </div>
    Could someone please tell me where I am going wrong?
    I would REALLY appreciate it.
    Thank you in advance!!

    I'm doing it for a client and they dont want it put up on the server yet, I wish I could put it up bc I have no idea what I'm doing!
    Basically I wanted a swf file from Flash to display a range of products (I have turned all the products into buttons) and then I put coding into all the buttons to on release getURL which work in the swf file, however when I put the swf file into dreamweaver, the buttons worked in hover state, but the action scripting didn't work to link the swf file to another page in the website (the index in Our_brands folder).
    So i decided to make it link to the index.html in Our_brands folder from wrapping the swf box in a div tag and linking the div tag <a href="Our_brands/index.html"> which links it great in Safari but wont link in Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer.
    Does that make any sense?
    Sorry if it doesn't.
    Thanks for the quick reply as well!!!
