Internet Exployer Running in Stealth Mode

I seldom or never use Internet Exployer, however it loads itself and is running in the background.  I tried uninstalling it and it is like the monster who will not die.  Even in task manager I could not close it. There were 4 running once today.  The last check was 2 and one was ads running. It started when we updated to the 10G plan and since then we are going over 7 to 8.
When I went to my local store with this problem they were aware that my high useage was Internet Exployer.  They told me to shut m mifi off every time I was not using the net, because In Ex was running even if my pc was off.  Any ideas?  Has it happened to you too?
Cannot Verizon do something?  Maybe they don't care because they get paid more, a lot more when this happens.

A few points:
You're talking to users of Verizon's residential services here.  It seems like you're concerned about data usage on a wireless plan using a WiFi hot spot.  If you want to talk to users of Verizon's wireless services, visit their forums at http://www.verizonwireless.com/
Verizon (wired or wireless) doesn't support computers.  If you have issues with your computer, you can ask other uses in any of a number of forums, use Google to see if you can find similar issues and solutions or pay for support from any of a number of companies.
Finally, IE doesn't just eat cycles and download stuff in the background.  If you don't use it, it does nothing.  If you are detecting unexpected IE usage, chances are pretty good that your computer has a virus or malware.  Get a good Anti-Virus program and use it, always. Microsoft Security Essentials is an excellent, free option.
Good Luck.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, maybe after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • Why is my Firefox running in "stealth mode"?

Many times when I close out of a web page and I go to restart I get a Message telling me "Firefox is already running and I must close it out before I can start another web page, but I have already closed it out and there is no Firefox web page there to close out as I have already closed it out. Sorry for all the "closing outs" but that's the only way I could figure to explain it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

  • Dat job keeps running in stealth mode

    Hi
can anyone help me with this very bizzare ( may be normal ) issue.
we started a job to load data from R3 using IP.
After 4 hours I notice lots of data being pulled and everything looks fine.
Then I get a request to kill the job.
I look into R3, sm37, the job is not there ( should have been under BIWremote ).
I look into R3 sm66, sm50, nothing from BI server.
I look into sm37, sm50 and sm66 in BI server. Nothing there.
yet the records count continues to increase in RSMON and the status stays yellow.
How to find and stop that freakin job........please help if you can.
    thanks.

    Hi,
Please check the load status in RSMO -->select the load --> goto the details tab -->check DATA selection ended in Extraction messages.
If you don't have the DATA selection ended in Extraction messages in details tab of load monitor .i.e..
data load extraction not ended or it is still running or It is missed some TRFC's.
To check the above please  follow .
1.Jus take the load request from rsmo like ''REQU.......''  and take this reqest then goto SOURCE SYSTEM give t.code SM37 check BIREQE....."(copy the req). If you have this request it is still running.
    2. if it is completed then check any PSA Process for load in BI system.
    3. if the PSA Process couldn't find then check the TRFC;s
I think you can trace your load status through avove .
    Regards,
    Krishna.

  • Corporate Verizon running in stealth mode - really?

To Whom this Concerns, I am and have been a loyal Verizon wireless customer for years and until most recent years and months have been satisfied with service and more importantly (COST of SERVICES).
The above said; while the board of Verizon Wireless continues to raid the customers wallet for like services that other providers can apparently provide for ruffly half the cost - I would like to offer some genuine ways business that should be done while at the same time your taking from your customers.
First - how about providing a direct link to the CEO of this company - stop hiding - be proud of the service you provide and if you are proud and stand by your commitment of ethical business then this should be right up front on your website and or thru TV spot service announcements.
Listen to your customer - be a partner - not a leach - don't prey on the customer that has made a choice to do business with you << this goes a long way.
Reducing your rates especially for those customers that have been loyal and have multiple lines seems quite in-line with doing good business and while you must answer to the board of directors, your business is currently near 100 billion yearly, this should provide well for corporate bonus payouts but does very little for the average consumer that at the end of the day is putting those very bonus payouts in your pockets.
"Service is service" the act of charging a premium based on brand rather than service or cost of services provided is quite disingenuous.
You now offer "rewards points" , if these are truly rewards points then your customers who have earned them should be able to use them as well to purchase gigabyte service, minutes, or as a subsidy to their monthly bill - this would also go a long way.
Discontinue the act of offering a extended service such as the additional 5 gigs of data for $20.00, instead now you have upped this to $40.00 for a reduced amount of service to 4 gigs. This is not a commodity, this is simple cost of services rendered - treat it as such instead of the continual barrage of attack on your customer.
I look forward to some answers that are worthy of my time that has been spent here.
    Regards, C. Meek

  • Is there any way to set a stealth  mode on the ports in Panther

The built-in firewall in Tiger provides a 'Stealth Mode' setting that makes the ports nonresponsive to external attempts to connect. The Panther firewall doesn't have this capability. Does anyone know of a way to enable this on a Panther machine (specifically 10.3.5 & 10.3.6) - even if it involves installing a utility application is ok.

    Ok, question for Karl.
    When I go to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
and do the ShieldsUP Stealth test from outside my hardware firewall connected directly to the internet (SSH turned off for the test) why do I get this result?:

    Specifically ftp reports this:

Stealth There is NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER that a port (or even any computer) exists at this IP address!
The only thing that fails is the PING test. Because they can ping my address. I don't have firewall turned on and I am running 10.3.9 not 10.4.
Any ideas? Is this test just not thourough enough?
Run the test for yourself and see. You will need to click Proceed at the bottom of the page to start the test.

  • Have I been hacked??? "Stealth Mode connection attempt to UDP"

My Mac Mini has been running very slowly lately. Sometimes it takes half a minute to switch between apps, and I mean simple apps like Mail and Safari and Appleworks, not Photoshop. Photoshop is a joke it runs so slow. So I've run Onyx SEVERAL times, restarted and cleared my PRam, and nothing is helping. I also noticed it seemed like my Mini was "running" a lot (the hard drive making a noise like it was up to something when I'm not doing anything). So I looked at the cable box and the Ethernet light was flashing softly, going along with the hard drive noise. Then I downloaded something called MenuMeters and it is showing that I'm receiving data constantly - it goes between about 300B/s to 1500B/s, and sometimes it shows I'm sending too. So I opened up the System Preferences and found out that "Network Time" was enabled in the Firewall preference pane. I unchecked that but my Mini is still receiving. (I'm not on any Ethernet network or anything either.) So I opened Advanced and found that the "Block UDP Traffic" box is not checked, though the other two "Enable Firewall Logging" and "Enable Stealth Mode" are checked. THEN I opened the log file and was shocked to see 1048 lines, mostly reading ""Stealth Mode connection attempt to UDP," although once in a while I saw a few that said "12190 Deny TCP." And that 1048 is just for yesterday and today. Is that normal??? Sometimes the "Stealth Mode connection" lines are single (I mean, not to a repeating number), but sometimes they repeat two, three, even five times to the same number.
Have I been hacked? Is someone stealing our small business data? Sounds kind of ridiculous, but can't help and worry some. Or do I have a virus? I tried to google whether or not there are any Mac viruses out there, that might pertain to this, but couldn't figure out anything. What do I do? I'm not very computer savvy, other than running my apps, and don't anything about Terminal or things like that. Even as I type this MenuMeters is showing me I'm receiving SOMETHING. Yikes!
    Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You mention one of the applications you have been using is Appleworks - which is not supplied with Intel systems, only PPC Macs. This would tend to suggest that your mini is a G4 model. It would be helpful to know which model the system is, what software you have on it, how much free space you have on your hard drive, and what you typically use the system for.
It's interesting that you note the system seems generally busy, which would go some way to explain why it may also seem rather slow, but you haven't mentioned whether you've run Activity Monitor to see what processes are active when the system seems to be active with some task that is not of your doing. If you haven't tried this yet, do so now - and let us know what processes the system shows as active when otherwise the system ought to be idle.
To answer a few of your broad questions: When the system is connected to the internet, it's not unusual to see a certain amount of data through-putting the network connection, but in most instances this would be in the region of 100-200B/s, with occasional, brief, spikes upwards of that. In the absence of a local router that level of data is likely to be higher, since basically your Mac is managing your internet connection and maintaining a public IP address assigned by your service provider. In a system with a router, the router handles this traffic so the resultant volume of data the Mac sees would be less.
The fact you see entries in the log of the sort you describe is not necessarily an indicator of a problem. It may suggest that the system is being probed, which as Boece has said is not at all uncommon for a system with a public IP number - and is indeed why it's most common to find systems being used 'behind' a router. The router takes the public IP number, and so systems behind it are given internal addresses by the router which are not visible to the outside world. The Router then performs something called Network Address Translation (NAT) which converts internal and public addresses as needed to ensure the computer can communicate with the internet while still staying 'invisible'.
In your position, I would look to add a basic router between your Mac and your cable/DSL modem because a hardware firewall is generally more effective than a software firewall, and NAT will keep your system clear of most potential hacking risks.
As for the potential for a virus - this is a bit of a thorny subject because most will (rightly) say that MacOS is not the target of any known virus that exists in the wild. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that it will remain that way, or that it's impossible to create malware that can infect or impact Mac systems. A good line of defense can be obtained by downloading and installing ClamXav (http://www.clamxav.com/) and setting it to examine vulnerable spots such as the desktop where files are typically downloaded or your mail folders, and using it to scan the system. Generally speaking, unlike antivirus products for Windows, this software does not consume copious amounts of CPU time (it grabs between 1 and 5% on my 1.25 G4 mini while in the background) so it's worth having around.
You also mention running OnyX several times - this is not a good thing. OnyX, like the other utilities of this type, is a useful tool in resolving performance issues, but if you find that it doesn't work when you use it once, it indicates the problem is not something that OnyX can resolve. Running it multiple times doesn't necessarily do any harm, but it does mean that macOS is continually having to build new cache files etc, which makes the system run very badly!
    So....
    (1) tell us about your system, the software on it and what you use it for.
    (2) how much free space is on your hard drive.
    (3) run Activity Monitor and tell us what it shows when the system seems to be busy doing it's own thing.
    (4) download ClamXav and run it as described.
    (5) get an inexpensive router and insert that into your system as described (we can help explain how to set everything up once you've got it if you need assistance).

  • Internet Based Clients and Native Mode

    Hi guys,
I have a question.... We have SCCM 2007 SP2 running in mixed mode in the environment. Now we plan to support internet based clients. Here is the current Hierarchy in mixed mode.
    1 Central Server
    1 Primary Server
3 Secondary servers under above Primary Server
Now as the requirement is to support internet based clients and want them to support on office LAN as well when they come to the office....this is what I would be doing : ( Theoretically I know, I need the practical steps to achieve that )
    1. Get all the 3 PKI Certificates : Site Server Signing, Web Server, Client agent.
    2. Make sure all the required ports are opened in-between Intranet <->DMZ AND DMZ <-> Internet
    3. Migrate Central server from Mixed to Native Mode.
    4. Install another Primary Server on Intranet in Native mode.
    5. Create a site system server connected to newly created Native Primary Site in the DMZ zone with these roles installed : MP, SUP and DP.
    6. Re-install all the SCCM clients in the environment with the command-line so that they can be supported on both internet and intranet.
    7. Make sure internet clients are able to connect DMZ site system server via internet.
Please let me know if I'm missing something here and let me know the practical steps to achieve this.
Request you not to share Microsoft technet link for the same. Please share some step-by-step practical document etc.. to achieve this.
    Thanks,
    Sam

    1. This is incorrect. You need more than a single web server cert and client cert. You need a unique server auth cert for *every* one of your systems hosting a client role like the MP, DP, and SUP. Also, you need a unique client auth cert for each and *every*
client that may/will connect via the Internet.
    4. Standing up a whole extra site just to support IBCM is a bit overkill. It does allow you to keep your "main" primary site in mixed mode, but it does add some overhead and cost and is not technically necessary.
    6. Incorrect. You only need to reinstall clients that will be configured as "Internet-only". Intranet clients should pick up the internet facing roles via policy. You can verify this by checking locationservices.log on the clients after they are successfully
communicating and the Internet facing roles are stood up and healthy.
You've made no account above for the CDP or CRL checking. This is a major stumbling block for many folks.

  • Photoshop says it's running in Trial mode.

    Hi there,
10 days ago I purchased the Lightroom+Photoshop package. I went on to install that on my Mac Pro but now everytime I open Photoshop it pops open the Adobe Application Manager who reminds my that there are X days remaining on my Photoshop trial. Lightroom works without problems.
I can click on either License this software or Contintue Trial. When I select license this software I get the message that login is required. It already knows my Adobe ID. When I click on the Sign In button it just goes to the next screen that asks for a serial number which I obviously don't have since it's a CC product and we don't get serial numbers.
The strange part is, I also installed it on my MacBook Pro and it works flawlessly there. It activates/registers without issues.
Yesterday I removed all the CC software with the provided Adobe CC removal tools. I also manually deleted every trace of Adobe files I could find on my system (application support files in both the Libraries, caches etc). I then went on to reinstall the software but the issue remains. Lightroom works, Photoshop keeps claiming it's running in trial mode.
I searched for a solution to this problem on the internet and these forums at first. There are a lot of people having this issue but no real solution is given (or no solution that actually works for me). It seems to be a somewhat common issue unfortunately.
One of the things I read is that it could be a language issue, when installing the software in a different language than your OS. My OS is in Dutch but I installed the software in English international (because I'm not used to a Dutch language photoshop, I get all lost if it's not in English ). But on the other hand, on my laptop the situation is exactly the same. Dutch OSX, English CC install. And yet that works perfectly.
Also my hosts file is clean, nothing is blocking communication to Adobe servers. I also tried disconnecting and reconnecting my account from inside the Creative Cloud menu app's settings to no avail.
It frustrates me to no end that the almost exact same setup works on my laptop and not on my desktop machine. Especially because the Mac Pro is my work machine and I rarely, if ever, use Photoshop on my laptop.
I really don't want to wait and see what happens in 20 days when the trial runs out. I don't know what to do anymore after doing that clean install (unless I missed just that crucial file that causes the issue..). Maybe it's an issue on the CC authentication server's end. Maybe I tried reinstalling too many times and it now thinks I'm running it on more than 2 computers? But that seems unlikely.
I'm running OSX 10.9.2 on both machines.

  • Running in Safe Mode - are there any implications. ( a sub section of Rebooting problem continued...)

As with others I have become frustarted by my 9720 rebooting at random sometimes mid call and often at annoying times. I often have to take out the battery too, otherwise it will not restart. I have wiped, rebooted and even tried the 4hr 15 min trick all to no avail.
I am now running in permanent safe mode - the blackberry works fine and I hope I may have found a solution. Nobody seems 100% sure what the problem is caused by, if I have found a cure I'll be pleased, if however there are issues with running in Safe Mode I would be pleased to know.
I don't want toi change phones but the last few days have been very annoying.
    Rogero

Safe Mode is not intended to be an "answer"...rather, it is a diagnostic tool to try and root out the cause of issues. It's sole intended purpose is to try and determine if any auto-running add-on or 3rd party apps might be causal to a situation, by suppressing the auto-run at boot up of those items. But, it is not intended to be part of any "normal operation" of the device.
If the results of Safe Mode are that the behavior continues, then other diagnostic steps must be conducted to try and determine the proper course of action. Quite often, there never can be any true diagnosis...but, rather, attempting a series of different remedies until the behavior is cured. For example, if OS corruption is the root cause, it can't really be diagnosed (especially at an internet distance)...rather, reloading the OS might cure the corruption and re-establish good operations.
But, reloading the OS might also cure other causes, so truly knowing exactly what the root cause is quite often impossible. And, if the issue is hardware (as with your suspicion of the battery), then no amount of OS or software "fixes" can truly be a remedy at all.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Contact center desktop Agent stealth mode issue (8.0.2)

    So here is the deal.
We're running windows XP and the verstion of desktop agent that i've noted above.
When the agents put the desktop software in "stealth" mode it goes into the systray. However when they receive a call, it takes over priority (only way I can describe it) and does not stay in "stealth".
Has anyone come accross this? Any docs on a solution would be great.
    Thanks,
    BR

Are you saying that it regains focus (i.e. reopens)? I'm not sure how to interrupt "takes over priority".
Stealth mode should only regain focus if a team message or email is received. If it is doing this for a call it's a bug. From the CAD user guide:
The window appears as an icon in the system tray (lowerright-hand corner of your desktop, next to the systemclock) and doesn’t appear unless double-clicked or if youreceive a team message or an e-mail.
Speaking of bugs, I strongly recommend that you place a PUT order for 8.5 and apply 8.5(1)SU1. The 8.0(x) release is a train wreck and has caused multiple CAP cases.

Frank Nimphius explains about headers to make IE browsers behave like a previous version (in compatibility mode), but ends with this support information:
    Very Important(!)
ADF Faces is not supported on IE running in compatibility mode. If using ADF Faces on IE in production, make sure IE is configured to run in native mode. Compatibility mode may only be used during development if your IE version is not certified with the JDeveloper version you work with. In production then you need to make sure the IE version matches the JDeveloper certification matrix.Reviewing the Release 1 "Certification and Support Matrix "
    at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/index-091111.html#Browsers
    it currently says

  • Internet explorer 11 in modern mode has some issues in files's downloads

I describe my problem. By using Internet Explorer 11 in modern mode, when a download begins, happening a strange issue: the name of the file is changed, this means that the "." of the extension is changed in a "_", and if presents, also the "." in the file's name. So a file such as "new document.pdf" is changed in "new document_pdf". As well as this issue, I have noticed more: the download's status bar at the bottom of the screen does not work well, furthermore, if the download was started in some particular site (i believe it was an encrypted session) the downloaded file had the name completely different, it was like a code (ajdj32836092feduwnd8325283474....).
The problem appeared after a windows update session, but i have not been able to identify the packet that has caused this problem.
The device that i talk about is a HP omni 10 tablet with Windows 8.1 32 bit.

    Hey @n1c0l4 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're experiencing issues with downloads in Internet Explorer on your Omni 10 tablet.
Can you tell me if you have the same issues with another browser?
You may also want to try a system restore to before the update went through. To run a system restore see here: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)

  • Setting AEBS for Stealth mode?  Is it possible??

    Hello,
I have a Airport Extreme Base Station and I currently have all the default settings for it. I know that the AEBS has a firewall, but I don't really know how to configure it. When I test it's security level by going to a website and running port scans etc... (I go to www.grc.com) I'm getting responses that the ports are responding but are "closed". Is there a way to set the AEBS to have a stealth setting??
I used to have a SMC Barricade router before I got my mac and the AEBS and when I ran these types of tests before they always came out as stealth on all my ports.
Does anyone out there know how to set this base station to show up as stealth?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I've asked this question before, too by going to an Apple Store to ask one of their Geniuses what to do about this problem. The response I got was basically that I didn't know what I was talking about and that I was stupid for asking. Usually the Apple folks are cheerful and happy to help; must have been a bad fruit in the lot.
Past messages on this board (I searched for "stealth") mention a similar stance: don't worry about ping, just make sure your ports are closed and/or services disabled.
The objective of stealth mode is to make sure hackers don't even know we exist so that they won't have reason to port scan our IP in the attempt to hack in. —When I ran a development web server for a while I monitored log files via Console seeing all kinds of external hack attempts!!
What I'm looking for is `stateful packet inspection` with all ports `stealthed`. Better yet, the AEBS needs to provide a configuration wizard for customers both who just want to run it out of the box AND include expert options (i.e. LinkSys, NetGear, D-Link, ...) so that we can fine-tune the firewall to our needs!
The main reason for my reply was to show that others have the same concerns and to solicit a meaningful response from Apple that satisfies this concern.
    ~Cheers
PS: I've also used grc.com to test my vulnerability from the outside world as well as asking external SysAdmins to port-scan my system.

  • Firefox 21 will only run in Admin. mode on Win 7 Pro. Also when I installed FF21 it came with a nasty virus.

Those are the details. FF 21 will not run on my system unless I choose Run as Administrator. So far none of the guesses posted by your tech support about this question in the past have worked.
I have removed the virus and removed FF and reinstalled. Same problem. I removed it again totally and reinstalled, same problem. I have installed it again under an Admin account and I still have the same problem. All of the earlier versions of FF worked fine in user mode.

I know that there are many posts on the internet dealing with FF having to be run under Admin. mode, but none of the guesses as to why have solved this problem. I also realize that most people running 21, judging from the lack of reaction, are running fine in user mode. But it would seem that the FF development team would be interested in this situation.
The trojan that came in on the FF install shut down Trusteer Rapport, a security software that my bank uses and recommends. The Trusteer support team worked with me to disable and remove the Trojan. That is what is called service.
