Internet EXTREMELY overpriced and SLOW

I'll save the backstory and tell you straight up what the problem is...
I get this **bleep**ty internet for $50 dollars a month which is only 1.5 megabits at MAX, I've actually NEVER EVER gotten 1.5 megabits.
Now this 1.5 megabits translates into 192 kbps.
I USED HAVE TO 3 MEGABITS WHICH TRANSLATES INTO 384 KILOBYTES BUT SOME EXTREMELY STUPID TECH CAME TO MY HOUSE AND DOWNGRADED THE SPEED BECAUSE OUR "LINE" OR SOMETHING WAS UNSTABLE WHEN WE LOST OUR INTERNET ONE TIME.
NOW WHEN HE CHANGED THE SPEED GUESS WHAT?
I PAY THE EXACT SAME **bleep** PRICE. $50 **bleep** DOLLARS? FOR THIS INTERNET?
I'm so fed up with this bull**bleep** Verizon crap, I've been on the phone with them but apparantly EVERY SINGLE UNTRAINED **bleep** gets hired at Verizon because at one point I was TRANSFERED OVER 10 TIMES. 10 **bleep** TIMES. I SPENT OVER 1 HOUR ON THE PHONE WITH THEM.
I want my old speed back because this is ridiculous I'm paying this LITERALLY OUTRAGEOUS price, and I can't even come up with an argument for why Verizon would EVER EVER make you pay this much except for the fact that they want to take all your money.
tl;dr $50/m for 1.5 megabits, used to have double that for the same price and i'm **bleep**.

Your line is either long or bad. That attenuation is pretty high and the margin is low. It could do a little bit better.
Your best bet is to try doing a NID Test. Basically, plugging your modem into the box that acts as a demarcation point between your home's copper and Verizon's copper drop. If your statistics are not any better there, your other bet is to try a tech roll to see if a tech will spend some time to ensure your line is conditioned. Otherwise, you know what to do.

  • Windows Server 2012 HyperV VMs becoming extremely sluggish and slow

I have recently set up a new system for a client consisting of a single Dell T320 server with Xeon E5-2350 2.2GHz 6 core cPU and 32GB of RAM.  Windows Server 2012 Standard is installed on the bare metal, and runs only the HyperV role.  It is not
    joined to any domains.
It hosts two VMs, one a Windows Server 2012 Standard VM containing the RDS related roles acting as remote desktop server, with 10GB RAM allocated and 3 cores.  Only 5 people use the terminal server concurrently.
The second VM is a Windows Server 2008 R2 based primary domain controller, with 16GB of RAM allocated and 3 cores.  It runs the AD role, as well as Exchange and GFI MailEssentials 2012.  Avira is also installed on this VM.
The problem is that the system will function properly for 3-4 days, then suddenly it goes into a state where a multitude of applications would start consuming inordinate amount of CPU time, and become very, very slow.  Almost like the hypervisor goes
into a software emulation mode where everything runs like molasses.  This affects BOTH VMs equally.  For example, Exchange and GFI on the Windows 2008 R2 VM together consume about 25% CPU, most of it is spent in kernel CPU time.  At the same
time, in the other Windows Server 2012 VM, svchost, Taskmgr, WMIPrvSE, LogonUI, Explorer,  sqlservr, wsmprovhost etc. will all consume a total of about 70% CPU time, this time 99% of this is user time, not kernel time.  When one user starts any application,
be that internet explorer, firefox or TaxPrep, the CPU spikes up to 100%.
All while nobody is using the system, the system is idle and no mails are flowing in or out of the system.  A reboot of the VMs does not fix anything, even a reboot of the host server does not fix anything.  When I yanked out the two power supplies
and performed a hardware diagnostic (which came back 100% OK), it booted up and the slowness was gone for 3 days, until today when it started acting up again like I described above.
One more thing, when the system behaves normally the sunspider javascript benchmark in IE10 takes 316ms to execute (average) on the HyperV host operating system.  When the system goes slow like this, I pause the two VMs in HyperV then run sunspider
again, only to be greeted by an average time of 5084ms.  So this clearly does not only affect the virtual machines but the host operating system as well. My gut still tells me the hypervisor is getting messed up somehow.
Any ideas?  This is a major problem and I have no idea what is causing it.

We have had the EXACT same thing happen with a Dell T320 on two separate servers. The first one was running SQL Server 2008 with nothing else funny going on. It ran fine for a month or so, then it developed this slowness issue. We finally installed SQL on
a loaner box (without Hyper-V) and it worked fine. We brought the T320 back to our shop and tested the hell out of it with Dell's assistance and it was NTF. Took it back onsite and moved an SBS 2011 VM over to it. After a few days, it ground to a halt. CPU
utilization was 100%. I started shedding services, killing Exchange, Sharepoint, etc. Even stripped to the essentials, the CPU was still up in the 60-70% range.
I put a T310 out onsite and downed the guest SBS vm. I copied the HUGE vhd over to the T310 (running Server 2008r2 with the Hyper-V role) and it ran perfectly. CPU at about 2-4%, spiking to 15% occasionally.
We finally concocted a story that the USB controller was bad, so they replaced the motherboard (not the CPUs) and it all seems to be working OK now after we sunk at least 100 man-hours into the problem.
Our second one is a similar setup. T320, Server 2012, Hyper-V role, SBS 2011 Standard and a couple of member servers running basic apps. No one can find any problem and everyone acts like this is something new, although my posting comes one year after Tim's
    original posting.

  • Streaming flash on internet is jerky and slow

Hi, I have a Mac OS X Version 10.4.11 with a processor speed of 400 MHz and 1.25 GB of RAM. The problem is that whenever I go to a flash streaming site like youtube or dailymotion, the flash is extremely jerky/slow showing only like 2 frames per 30 seconds. Its horrible. I've done some research on Google about this problem seeing that others have (had) similar issues; but no solutions. If I play video that I've downloaded in wma or avi, it'll play flawlessly. Whenever I play youtube videos or flash swf videos online, it'll lag, even making the whole computer stagger and freeze up. Is there any fix to this?

I have a Mac OS X Version 10.4.11 with a processor speed of 400 MHz
That's why. The latest Flash, especially on YouTube, is much more resource intensive. My G3 400, just like yours, can't keep up with it at all. You have enough RAM; RAM has nothing to do with it. The only solution is a faster computer.
What you might try, but this depends on wanting to go to the trouble, is to download the videos using Perian with Safari, or Better YouTube with Firefox and play them through QuickTime. Downloading, depending on the size of the files, can take a few minutes. If these are videos you just want to have a quick look at, it's probably not worth it. But, if you are interested, I can give you instructions.

  • Safari extremely choppy and slow after long use

Hello people. First of all my specs:
    Earlly 2011   15" Macbook pro; 2.0 Ghz i7 Processor; 8GB RAM; 500GB HDD with 140GB free;
When I switch on my mac and use safari it works fine. Always enough free RAM. After about 5 hours of use safari starts to chop when i scroll. This happens mostly when i open a link in a new tab and it is still loading. In extreme cases i right click on a link and the pop up menu takes about 3 to 5 seconds to appear. I thought RAM was a problem but about 2GB was free so that wasnt it. This is always the situation, ram always available. I have used programs like iBosstUp to cleanup files in my mac. I have emptied recylcle bin. I have reset Safari. My mac is using the latest OS lion 10.7.3. I usually open upto 20 tabs at the same time thats why I got 8 GB. I am now thinking of going up to 16GB(no debate here: it is 100% possible i reserched). But I dont want to find this problem there again after the upgrade. Another issue, when I have loads of tabs opened, the tabs load fine but when i click on any one of them, the page is completely blank  and reappears about a second or two after. Sometimes the tabs load when I click on them, yet they are supposed to load in the background. If free ram was very low then I was going to assume virtual memory was in use therefore the pages taking time to appear..
Please help. Thank you in advance

    Hey LpoolEd,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, Safari has slow performance and there is an issue with automatic login. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.
Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found
OS X Yosemite: Login Options pane of Users & Groups preferences
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a great day,

  • Internet connection tempermental and slow

    Hi,
For about two week now my iMac has been dropping connection quite regularly, or running incredibly slow for a few minutes at a time. It's a problem that exclusively affects my Mac (my mobile and tablet work flawlessly at all times on the same network). When the connection cuts out completely the Wi-Fi menu bar icon remains black, suggesting it's connected even though it isn't.
I can resolve the issue by turning the Wi-Fi off and on, or resetting the router, but the problem will usually come back within 30 minutes. I think the chances of it cutting out are increased when I try doing something network intensive, like downloading a large file or streaming video / watching YouTube. I've tried renewing DHCP lease (whatever that does) and yes, I've tried turning it off and on again. I've ran a wireless diagnostics test if there's anything useful in the file anyone can use.
I'm using a mid 2010 iMac 21" running the latest version of Yosemite (10.10).
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

They will. But given the fact that it is so difficult to reliably reproduce this issue, it is very hard to classify it.
The more people sending in detailed feedback, as in step by step instructions on how to re-create the issue, the easier it will be for Apple to reproduce the issue, in-house. And once they can do that, they can begin to address the issue. And put out a fix.
I am willing to bet my computer that Apple want to fix this issue just as bad as anyone suffering from it ;-)

  • New to networking . . . AEBS and slow internet connection

    Here's my set up:
    2 white 17" iMacs running MacOS 10.4.10. 1 15" Titanium Powerbook (2002) on 10.4.10 as well.
I have Verizon Wireless which originally was getting speeds of well over 10mbps. Verizon had us update software (bad move) and it dropped to b/t 750kbps and 1mbps. The router they gave us is a Westell 327W.
I got the AEBS (n version) yesterday and connected it to the router using the WAN port as directed. I also connected a printer to the USB slot. One iMac is connected to the AEBS using an ethernet cable. After the installation i found the internet connection to be painfully slow. Tests show a speed at no more than 256kbps! I am extremely upset and disappointed. I have not tried to file share yet and I don't believe I am having any interference problems. Are there any other possible solutions? Do I need a new router? I think I'm only paying for 1mbps so I'd be happy to get that speed. But as of now, downloads are not an option for me.
Please, anybody with some sage advice, it would be greatly appreciated if you could pass it along to a network newbie. Thanks in advance.

Well, I think I figured it out. I turned off my Westell router and unplugged it and left it overnight. Then plugged it in and turned it on in the Am. Came home form work and tested the speed . . . 1.5 - 3mbps! Wow! It really jumped over night. It's always the simplest things isn't it? Let's hope that's all!

  • Slow Internet on Mac and not PC

A couple of days ago, my Mac started downloading Internet web sites much slower than normal. What took a couple of seconds (DSL connection) is now taking 10—15 or more. I have tried it wireless and wired. I get the same result. Even Itunes is extremely slow!
At first, it was on my Mac and my husband's PC. We rebooted the modem and restarted our computers. My husband's PC is zooming along. My Mac is still slowly downloading pages. I have rebooted my computer and DSL modem several times.
I also downloaded the latest edition of my browser, Firefox. I tried loading pages on Safari. Slow, slow, slow. Even launching the browsers is slow. All other applications are loading just fine and in a short amount of time (5 seconds or less). I have also cleared out my Firefox cache.
Just a few minutes ago I updated my security packages. That didn't help. I also verified and repaired my hard drive permissions.
    Any ideas? Help! Thanks!

    The musigal,
I would go to your System Preferences -> Network -> Built in Ethernet (Show: Network Status must be selected) and under TCP/IP click renew DHCP lease if you are using a dynamic address. Next write down the DNS Server information there (if any) and then delete it. You will need to do this for Airport as well. Reboot and try your internet connection.
If you still are having issues, check the results of the command "ipconfig /all" on the PC in command prompt and compare the "default gateway" and "DNS Server" to the "Router" and "DNS Servers" in System Preferences -> Network -> Built in Ethernet.
If you get it fixed you can further speed up Safari by using the command in Terminal.app First quit Safari and Mail:
sudo defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitInitialTimedLayoutDelay -float 0.25
and further speed up Mail.app if you are using POP not .Mac mail:
    cd ~/Library/Mail
    sqlite3 Envelope\ Index
    vacuum subjects;
    ctrl D (to end)
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   MacBook Pro

  • After the Airport update today, Airport Utility no longer sees my new Extreme or my 2 new Airport Express relay stations (same network); however, my internet is working and all Airports are green?

After the Airport update today, Airport Utility 6.0 no longer sees my new Extreme or my 2 new Airport Express relay stations (same network); however, my internet is working and all Airports are green?  I'm running Lion on my iMac and updated when Airport Utility prompted me to do so a few hours ago.  After applying the updates is when Airport Utility stopped seeing my routers.  But they are working?  Thoughts?

Did you remember to completely power cycle the entire network?
You would want to do this after any update or change to the network.
If you did not do this yet......things are out of sequence.
Power off everything on the network.....all devices.....power down order is not important
    Wait a few minutes
Start the modem first and let it run a minute or two by itself
Start the next device connected to the modem the same way
Work your way out on the network starting each device about a minute apart
    Check the network

  • Can't Connect to Internet using AirPort Extreme Card and DLink Router

I have tried just about everything, but I can't seem to connect my MAC OS X 10.3.9 to the internet. I am using the Airport Extreme Card and no networks show up. I am trying to connect to my DLink router. I was told by DLink that it is compatible with AirPort Extreme cards, but the guys at Best Buy were unable to connect to their wireless routers, other than their Mac Router. Please let me know if you have a solution! Thanks

Do you have iMac G5 or a Power Mac G5?
Did you install the AirPort Extreme card yourself?

  • Bought 4th Gen 3TB TC - streaming TV over the internet is now so slow and now is constantly buffering.  It seems the Airport Utility is always 'searching for new networks' - don't know if this is the problem.  It's not the internet speed as checked that.

Bought 4th Gen 3TB TC - streaming TV over the internet is now so slow and now is constantly buffering.  It seems the Airport Utility is always 'searching for new networks' - don't know if this is the problem.  It's not the internet speed as checked that.  I took my old router upstairs and was streaming TV via my ipad seamlessly - the same program via the TC was constantly buffering.
I just expected to be able to plug in the TC, so a simple set-up and experience wireless both upstairs and downstairs in my house.  For some reason the range is low and speed veru disappointing.
I am far from being an IT expert but I would welcome advice about setting up this TC so we can enjoy the product as it was designed.  Please HELP!

No silver bullet........but my suggestions may drive you in the right direction.
    1.  Unplug the power cable from the TC and wait 10-15 minutes before powering back up.   Seriously wait!
Proceed to #2 if this dosen't help.
    2.  Unplug the power cable from the TC, ubplug the power cable from your Broadband Modem (assuming it's a cable modem), disconnect ethernet, and cable from modem.
2a.  Wait 10-15 minutes then re-connect cable, ethernet, and power back to modem (your modem should power up unless you have a power switch)  wait for all the modem lights to come on EXCEPT activity.
2b.  Connect ethernet from modem to TC, and plug in the power cable to TC.
Proceed to #3 if this dosen't help.
    3.  Reconfigure the TC.........Read here........http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
All really simple to do....if you need additional help let me (us) know.

  • Can the wireless card in my mac wear out and slow down internet connection??

can the wireless card in my mac wear out and slow down internet connection??

Yes the WiFi card can wear out but not what you would really call wearing out like a pair of pants do. It can start to fail causing the connection between your computer and your Wifi router to slow down, IE transmit and receive less data in a given time period. And then it will fail completely.
But as to your internet connection being affected by a failing WiFi card no that can't happen.
If you turn the WiFi off and connect the computer to your router with an Ethernet cable does your internet browsing and downloading speed increase? If it does then there may be something wrong with the WiFi card in your computer or the WiFi section of your router. Hard to say which.
If after connecting the computer to your router with an Ethernet cable and your speeds do not increase then it is a problem with the router or on your ISPs end.

  • My imac is getting slower and slower and has probems connecting to internet. Any idea on how to restore initial performance? thanks

my imac is getting slower and slower and has probems connecting to internet. Any idea on how to restore initial performance? thanks

What year, screen size, CPU speed and amount of RAM installed?
What version of OS X is your iMac running?
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
How many applications do you run simultaneously in the background while working in another application?
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X.
Do you run any "crapware" like Mackeeper or any other type of so called hard drive "cleaning" apps?

  • Internet is moving very slow and customer support is no help

my internet is running very slow, i am currently paying for 35/35 internet speed. i ran the speed test a few times and the download speed was 00.26. I tried calling verizon but i only got a machine. The machine said Verizon video on demand was down in my area and would expect to be back up thursday. I dont care about the video on demand cause i hardly use that. I was wondering since the video on demand is down would it effect my internet speed and explain to why it is moving so slow?

I would power cycle your gateway/router.  The download speed you are getting is incredibly slow. If powercycle of your router doesnt resolve the issue you might have to call tech support again and hopefully you can get through. If you can call your neighbor and see if they have same internet slowness like you. Your ONT might need to be rebooted. VOD shouldnt cause internet slowness since I do believe is on a differnt wavelenghth.

    Hello,
I have very similar problem. Suddenly Firefox stopped work - It was working few days after ver. 4 update. I was looking everywhere for some solution but nothing worked.
    - uninstalled firewall - did not worked
    - added full exception for Firefox into the firewall - did not worked
    - Firefox reinstall - did not worked
    - Firefox complete reinstall (registry included) - did not worked
    - IPv6 diseabling - did not worked
    - diferent proxy options (no proxy, system proxy, autodetect proxy) - did not worked
    - new firefox profile - did not worked
    - complete coockies, history... deleted - did not worked
    - there is only one solution which partly works - I have used public proxy addresses for Firefox but the ping is (750ms), down/up (0.8MB/0.2MB originaly (10MB/2MB) and yes I have tried different proxy server from different countries from my included.
    - IE is working perfectly and without proxy
    - other companies browser - did not worked too
    - only IE is working
    - I have used three different malware, trojans, spyware, anti-virus programs and nothing
It seems to me as hopeless situation or very clever move from Microsoft, I am forced to use IE - at least this works
    Any ideas, solutions?
System Windows 7, firewall Comodo Internet security
    Thanks everyone for the help
