Internet Freezes then loads back up?

Hi I'm posting this to see if I can figure out whether my issue is with my internet or the iMac itself.
I have 2 iMacs and the DSL modem is hooked up to one of them.
When I'm on the iMac that my DSL modem is hooked up to, it will sometimes freeze for about 5 seconds and then load back up. I.E. if I'm playing some sort of internet linked game, I will be playing, then everything will freeze for 5 seconds, then load up all at once.
These problems however will not happen on the other iMac as well as the other laptops we have around the house.
Also if I'm watching a video on Youtube, if it freezes in the middle of the video, I will have to refresh the page just to continue watching the video. I will have to refresh the page about 5 times within about an 8 minute video.
I'm not sure whether this is a Internet problem (my modem is like 5 years old) or just a problem I can solve straight from my iMac. I'd like to know soon so I get can this problem solved and see if i have to go out and buy a new modem.
Post if you need more information!

Hi,
Try ; Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

to ensure the proper operation of the SMC.
and if still issues persist,  try: OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?

  • HELP!! Can's type in Firefox UNLESS I open another internet tab, then go back to the first tab.

HELP!! Can's type in Firefox UNLESS I open another internet tab, then go back to the first tab! All of the sudden, out of the blue, I hear the little "beep" noise that Mac's make when, for example, you try to close a program without saving an item first. It will "beep" to make you aware that you have an unsaved document. Now, without changing anything on my computer or Firefox, I get thet "beep" when I go to Firefox and try to type in a search box, etc. The only way I can type is if I open a new tab in firefox, then go back to the first tab. Only then will I be able to type. If I use my mouse and click on another box to type on, or try to go back and edit text I have already trped using the mouse to jump to a different portion of my text, I will hear the same "beep" until I (once again) click on another tab, then return to the first tab. It is very annoying as I have to constatnly click on another tab then return so that I can type or edit any thing. I had to do this several times while editing this very paragraph!! I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled. Nothing changed...
    Any help????
    Thanks in advance!

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does it work in the new account?

  • Songs freeze then come back on

When I am playing songs through itunes the songs are freezing then coming back and so on. I tried different albums to see if it was just the one album but it happens to all of them. So what should I do?

If you have any iTunes widgets running, deactivate them.

  • I am trying to change my secondary icloud to become my primary account.  When I try I keep getting a message to first delete my icloud from internet accounts then log back in.  I just cannot seem to figure out how to do this.  Any ideas?

I am trying to change my secondary icloud to my primary icloud.  I've read several posts but can't seem to get any of those to work.  It keeps telling me to change this I need to delete my icloud from internet accounts and sign back in.  How do I do this though?  When I go onto internet accounts, I don't see where I can manage this.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

To change a secondary account you have to delete/sign out of both accounts.   After doing so, you can sign back in with the secondary account ID in System Preferences>iCloud and it will become the primary account.  To delete an account from System Preferences>Internet Accounts, select it on the left sidebar, then click the "-" icon at the bottom to delete it.

  • Macbook briefly freezes then comes back to life during sessions

My Macbook, which I've owned since September 2006, is starting to suffer from brief freezes. For a few seconds, all operations freeze on the screen (the cursor is still movable), then it's followed by a few seconds of the spinning wheel, and then things start moving again. The computer has never frozen to the point where I have to restart; however, the freeze-ups can be bunched up (two or three times in succession), and can be as long as 30 seconds. Also (and this may be common sense more than anything), this episodes only seem to happen when the Macbook has been on for long periods of time, including sleep periods.
I've been meaning to increase my RAM for a while now, and I suspect that this situation is a result of the RAM I have being either defective or just overtaxed. But I wanted to see if that is the consensus of the crowd here.

Thanks for the reply but how would customer support help me with a hardware problem ?  I once had a problem with the power jack on this computer.  Toshiba wanted $375 to fix it.  Got it fixed by Geek Squad for 100 bucks.  Anyway, I don't think it is hardware.  Can anyone else suggest a possible fix ?  I believe that after the BIOS is loaded, the next thing is to load Vista.  This is where the computer just pauses for 45 minutes before finishing the booting process.  What the heck is it doing, resting ?   Thanks in advance.

  • Ripping Music off iPod, then loading back on to Reformatted iPod.

I was originally using my iPod with an HP computer, and formatted it for Windows. Now I have switched to a Macbook, and have had no trouble using my Windows-formatted iPod with my new Mac.
But using my Mac I discover that only Mac-formatted iPods can receive and install updates. So if updates come out for the iPod software, I’m screwed.
I would like to rip all the music off my iPod onto an external drive using third party software (I know there are several available). Then reformat my iPod for Mac.
If I do this will there be any issues with me loading my music back onto my iPod?
    Anyone know??

I use yamipod to do this. Should not be a problem.

  • Every time i sync in my music in my iphone 5 it would have to back up my iphone and every time i back up the loading bar would freeze then my itunes with crash pls help my iphone 5 coat a lot from my savings

every time i sync in my music in my iphone 5 it would have to back up my iphone and every time i back up the loading bar would freeze then my itunes with crash pls help my iphone 5 cost a lot from my savings

Syncing requires a backup as part of the sync process.
Delete any existing backups in iTunes under Edit > Preferences > Devices (or simply move them to a different folder on the computer) then try a backup or sync.

  • Am trying to reinstall photoshop elements/premiere elements 9 back on my pc but when it gets to installing shared technologies it freezes and then rolls back.

I don't know what is going on with this. Photoshop worked but the premiere elements suddenly kept freezing so I un installed and am trying to reinstall but keep having the same issue. This is from a purchased dvd set. At one point when it got to this phase, the dvd started making an odd noise then roll back. I try again and again with no odd noise but still the same issue. It's not the pc I've had that remotely checked and other stuff installs. What gives? I NEED this fixed pronto

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 running on? For now, for the details below, I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
You are experiencing the known Shared Technology installation error syndrome which can hit any version of Premiere Elements on any computer operating system. There is no one fix. Lots of home remedies.
The fix that has worked for me consistently lately is this:
    Local Disc C
    Program Files (x86)
    Common Files
    Adobe
and in the Adobe Folder is the OOBE Folder. Rename the OOBE Folder from OOBE to OLDOOBE. Close out of there and try for the Premiere Elements 9 installation again. (Do not forget to do the Premiere Elements 9.0.1 Update after you have finished the Premiere Elements 9 installation.)
The following is a sampling of what some others have gone through with this particular error
Re: Premiere Elements 11 "installing Shared Technologies" error during install
Please let us know the outcome. We will think about this some more depending on your results.
    Thank you.

You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)

Far as your Safari problem do these things until it's resolved:
1: Software Update fully under the Apple menu.
2: Check the status of your plug-ins and update (works for all browsers) also install Firefox and see if your problems continue. You should always have at least two browsers on the machine just in case one fails.

4: Run through this list of fixes, stopping with #16 and report back before doing #17

  • Iphone 3g shuts off after the apple loading screen then cuts back on

Iphone 3g shuts off after the apple loading screen then cuts back on by its self but when i connect it to a charger it works fine also my on/off button is unresponsive (i havent dropped it or wet it so im confused why its doing this)

    Welcome to the discussions,
normally you could try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back. But since the sleep button is unresponsive, try to restore "as new iPhone", if necessary without using the backup afterwards, in case the backup contains corrupt data.

I want to loan my ipad to my husband for the summer. If I back up my ipad, reset my ipad to its factory settings and then load it on his imac will I be able to get my apps back later?

You can backup your iPad to your computer then after that restore it to its factory default. Your husband will be able to use it like a brand new iPad and when he is done then you can plug it back into your computer and restore it to your backup. Everything should be there for you.
