Internet goes down at certain times

My Interenet has been going out at the same time every night around 11pm -12am. I also have phone service through comcast which also obviously goes out. It does not come back on for hours. I work from home and teach classes on the internet. This is REALLY a problem. I have called numerous times in the past months and had a tech come out with no solution. I try to send a refresh and it ALWAYS fails. It has even failed when the Customer Service Rep assists. I am thinking about replacing the box. If this does not help I will change my service. I have had Comcast in a different city in the past and never had these issues. FYI: My Cable TV always works fine.

Please give us more information:
1) Please connect your computer directly to the modem via Ethernet ( no router, no wireless, no USB )
2) Run ShaperProbe and post your results. (It works with Win 7)
3) Post your upstream and downstream signal levels (click the link.) We are interested in your power levels (dBmV) and your Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR).
4) Let us know to what speed tier you subscribe.
5) Post the make a model of your modem.
6) Post your modem's error logs.

  • Every day the Internet goes down

The Internet goes down. I got told it was the router not strong enough to stream everything in my household so I bought a $300 router....and still have problems!!!

Does your Internet connection actually "go down" (i.e. the green lights on the AT&T modem/residential gateway turn red or go dark)? or is it a bandwidth issue (too much streaming and everything studders or slows down)?- Same with wired devices vs wireless?- All devices, laptops, phones, tablets affected at same time?

  • Auto run script to bring port down at certain time/

trying to find a way to automatically bring a port down at certain time of the day and then bring it back up at a different time.
basically we want to disconnect a phone (cisco 7940) at end of business day and reconnect in the am.
any ways to do this thru script or a functionality built into cisco os?

This might be doable with EEM scripting.  Note - there's an EEM scripting forum, where you might find help.
Does the port really need to be taken down, or would blocking its operation at night suffice?  If the latter, a timed based ACL might be used.

  • Can you still work  when the internet goes down?

Since internet service in this country is pretty unreliable, will that make it difficult to get work done when internet is down? Where I live, high speed internet isn't even available, so will I even be able to use Photoshop at all? Should I just find an alternative app?

Your Creative Cloud desktop applications (such as Photoshop and Illustrator) are installed directly on your computer, so you won't need an ongoing Internet connection to use them on a daily basis.
You will need to be online when you install and license your software. If you have an annual membership, you'll be asked to connect to the web to validate your software licenses every 30 days.

  • Internet going off all the time

My internet has been constantly going off and on for months now. It always happens in the change of the seasons when it is getting warm. Ive had comcast internet since 2011& it has happened every year. The technicians come out and tell me theres nothing wrong with my modem or anything in the house. They put a request for maintenance to come out and check the pole . Nothing ever changes. Its so aggravating to pay for a service that never works correctly. When it works, its wonderful. Spring and summer months are awful! Last week makes 5 times the technicians have visited my house since May! Its about time for somebody at the cooperate level to do something. All my neighbors have already switched internet and tv providers- do I have to switch too!?

  • Shutting down after certain time

I would like to use my mac to listen to before I go to sleep. Is there a function where I can set the computer to go to sleep after half an hour or so after I decide, not a set time every night? Maybe there is a widget or something, I know there is one for going to sleep, is this the best I can do? Cheers

    Hi again:
(Chuckling at myself), that is very true!
As you know, you can tell the computer to shut down on a schedule (energy saver), but I do not know of anything that would do what you want.

P.S. I hunted a bit, but could not find anything relevant (other posts).

  • OSPF with ipsec VTI interface goes down before dead timer.

I have a strange issue that OSPF will initially start working, hellos are exchanged both ways but then after about 3 – 6 hellos one of the sides stops getting them and the ipsec VTI tunnel drops on router A even before the dead timer reaches 0. Is this default behavior, when OSPF is over a VTI interface if it doesn’t receive hellos is drops the tunnel?
I’m at a loss as to what is going on since it looks like only one neighbor stops receiving hellos, router A, for a brief period of time. This VTI tunnel is going over another provider’s FW and they have assured me the tunnel destination/source ips are wide open they also sent me the ACL and I can verify this. The weird thing is if I enable EIGRP it works great with no issues. On router B I am using the same source/ip unnumbered  interface on multiple VTI tunnels to to other destinations but this shouldn’t cause any issues I don’t think. I have never had an issue like this and from what I can tell the router A just stops briefly getting hellos after 3 – 6 initial hellos and drops the protocol on the VTI interface. If I set the dead timer on router A long enough it will stop receiving hellos but stay up and then after a while you get “LOADING to FULL” as the hellos start coming in again.  Again the tunnel goes over a cisco 800 which I have no control over it and a potential FW before that but I saw the ACL and ip is being allowed. I was thinking this could be a trolling issue on the FW but it doesn’t explain why EIGRP works.  FYI I was having a recursive routing issue before but I have since fixed that and the issue still continues.
********  it turns out that i was using the same source ip on multiple tunnels. IPsec would get confused with packets coming in and would deliver packets to the wrong tunnel interface. This was solved but using the key command with a different key number on each set of tunnels with the shared profile command
"If more than one mGRE tunnel is configured on a router that use the same tunnel source address, the shared keyword must be added to the tunnel protection command on all such tunnel interfaces. Each mGRE tunnel interface still requires a unique tunnel key, NHRP network-ID, and IP subnet address. This is common on a branch router when a dual DMVPN cloud topology is deployed. "

I haven't studied your config, but I can tell you I have production environment using OSPF across VTI  (and GRE, and GRE/IPSec and DMVPN) tunnels without issue.  I.e. so OSPF can be okay with VTI tunnels.

  • Internet goes down after suspend/resume?

Hey ive got arch x86_64 whenever I use the
    $ sudo pm-suspend
command I will suspend but when i come back up the internet will be down. I am not able to get it back up with
    # ifconfig eth0 up && dhcpcd eth0
I have to reboot to get it working again Ive been able to use suspend/resume with arch on this same computer before and this is a fresh install of about 3 days old. Any ideas why this happens?

I have similar issue with my laptop's wifi. I use:
    $ sudo /etc/rc.d/net-auto restart
Maybe there is a better way than to restart the network, but that command works with mine.

  • Please help Internet goes down when using iPad and Mac book pro at samtime

When I am using my iPad and my wife is using her Mac book pro at the same time we both lose Internet connection. We are using a gateway 2wire wireless router supplied by AT&T. Both devices have the latest updates we have reset network settings reentered wep password rebooted router and restarted both devices with no luck. We bought both of them at the same time so we are new to the Mac world, not sure if it is related but our new 2nd gen apple tv also seems to power on for no reason even after I put it to sleep and the remote is put away so no accidental bumps. The apple tv is connected via an either net cable not wifi. Any info would help thanks.

The fact that your using WEP security could be the problem. Try switching your router security settings to WPA or WPA2 with AES. If you don't know how id suggest contacting your internet service provider to get directions on changing the wifi security settings. The iPads wifi chipset supports AES encryption at the hardware level which increases performance and battery life. I'm not sure about your Macbook though.

  • Oracle 10G Db Starts-up After Server Reboot, BUT Goes DOWN After Some Time

    Hi All,
I am really puzzled over this one. I have couple of servers running DB on them and I have used scripts to auto-enable them when server(s) reboot.
But there is one server where I see this funny behavior.
The DB comes-up after server reboot.
I can verify that in the startup logs and some more logs that I created.
I can see that LISTENER is able to communicate also.
But after a while, the DB shuts-down....!!
I have checked all the places I could. I have also tried to see the difference between this server and others (I did not install this one), but can not see any difference.
Is there anyway to find out (log) what is shutting down the DB??
Any help will be much appreciated as I am at my wits end.

  • When my mac is on the network, internet goes down

We have a small network of Mac laptops (3 machines). For some reason, when mine is here, we often lose internet access for short periods (30 seconds up to a couple minutes). It feels as if mine interferes with the wireless router or something. I don't think it's an IP conflict. I would likely get a warning if it were. I'm set for DHCP anyway, and if I Renew Lease, it makes no difference.
    Any suggestions?

In the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, check the 'Wake for Ethernet network administrator access' checkbox under the Options tab, and then use an application such as this one to send it the signal.

  • Some kind of alarm when the internet goes down

Good day. I am using WiFi to connect to the internet. Someone else owns the modem and
gave me permission to use it. Sometimes, the modem is working, but looses the internet connection.
I want to know, does anyone know of an add-on or windows gadget or program that would let me
know when the net is out.

on windows 7 you could try the following (please note that my OS is not in english, so i may not get the exact right labels in my description): go to the windows task planner & create a new task. give it a name of your choosing and switch to the trigger tab where you create a new trigger (''launch task at an event''; protocol: ''system'', source: ''dns client events'', event-id: ''1014''). <br>then go to the actions tab, where you can set-up a custom message, which will pop up in a dialog once the trigger is called (or set any other action; for example you could make firefox open another custom tab through [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Command_Line_Options command line arguments], etc.)...

  • The accu of my MACBook Air goes down half the time as before I installed the new Mountain Lion OS. Any help or suggestions?

After installiong the OS Mountain Lion the power of my Apple Airbook (2012) went down twice faster than before. Does anybody knows why?
As well I lost my backup HD. After installation of Mountain Lion the HD was not anymore available!
    Any solution?
    Rgs Thomas

It is likely not working from the same coffee spill. You can use Apple's hardware tests to see if any errors show up on sensors (voltage or current sensors) that might indicate the problem (see here for info on the tests: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57352461-263/how-to-invoke-and-interpret-th e-apple-hardware-tests/). While you can try using dionized water to gently wash the port and spray it out (open the system to do this from the inside), it's not a guaranteed fix and could potentially harm other aspects of the system; however, since you recovered it from a similar spill and got it cheaply it may be worth a shot.

  • If the Internet is down can I still watch TV?

I'm currently with TalkTalk TV and am considering switching. With TalkTalk TV if the Internet goes down the set top box becomes useless, you can't watch live tv (even through the aerial) or watch recorded programmes that are stored on it. Is BT Vision the same?

From experience, I find that the EPG goes missing after a few days now, it used to be 2 weeks - thanks BT!!
You can still watch freeview, but without knowing what you're watching
As Guilbo mentions, you'll not be able to set up or manually record anything after a certain time - can't remember how long this is but it aint long.
There is no time limit for playing back stored recordings
Though if the box is switched off at the mains and back on again without an internet connection, you've got nothing.

  • Internet connection failing dozens of times daily for weeks now

My computer's connection to the Airport Express base station has no problems at all. But the internet connection goes out literally dozens of times a day (at no predictable schedule); this has been happening for almost a month. I originally thought the problem was with the internet provider, but I'm now beginning to think that either my settings are wrong, or that I have a corrupt file somewhere. Here are the details:
I connect via a cable modem (Time Warner - Road Runner). I know people have had problems with Time Warner, so I assumed that was the issue; however I've had 3 service calls and they've checked signal strength inside and out, and swapped out the modem and the cables. I don't think it is simply problems in our geographic area (i.e. greater Los Angeles) due to the fact that the Internet fails sometimes 40-50 times daily, and the problem began when I upgraded from an old Airport base station to a brand new Airport Express about a month ago.
The airport/internet connection is shared 3 ways: two MacBook Pro computers and one iPhone. My Airport's internet settings are as follows:
    Configure IPv4 using DHCP.
DNS Servers: 66.75.160.63 and 66.75.160.64 (note I have already tried swapping these for OpenDNS -- this did NOT solve the problem)
    Domain name: socal.rr.com
    DHCP Client ID: [blank]
    Ethernet WAN port: Default-Automatic
Connection Sharing: Share a Public IP address
    DHCP Beginning Address: 10.0.1.2
    Ending Address: 10.0.1.200
    DHCP Lease: 4 hours
    NAT settings are all unchecked
One of the main reasons I believe that the problem is with my computer's settings or a corrupt file is that I can fix the problem whenever the Internet "goes down" almost 100% of the time by doing the following: after loading Airport Utility, I make ANY trivial change (i.e. changing the DHCP lease from 4 hours to 5 hours) and then click UPDATE to refresh the Airport base station. This fixes the problem almost 100% of the time. But then, anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours later, the Internet connection goes down again. [Unplugging the power from the modem, waiting 30 seconds, and plugging it back in ALSO fixes the problem almost 100% of the time, until it goes out again a little while later.]
I can't think of what else to try -- but any advice would be greatly appreciated -- it's impossible for us to work with the Internet constantly going out throughout the day, every day.
    Thank you!

I had a similar issue with a local fiber provider in Loma Linda, CA. Internet connection with a new Airport Extreme was fast but with drops at regular intervals every day. Resetting the airport fixed the problem but there was one difference, even a direct connection through ethernet cord to the gateway also failed at regular intervals.
After trying everything, the problem was fixed by asking the fiber service provider to switch the port the wire from my home was connected to at a central box somewhere in my neighborhood.
    Good Luck!
