Internet internal modum for macbook 10.4.9

I am trying to hook my Mac book to internet at home, Dial up Telus. It does not work, Telus said I need a internal modum or external? Is that true? I thought Apples had everything already!
When I go to select intenet service it won't let me click on the icon dial up. What am I doing wrong?
This is a brand new computer less than 24 hours old. At my office I have Cable internet, it was simple plugged in & i t worked. What do I have to do?

You need to purchase Apples USB modem.

  • How can I know if my new internal hd for macbook pro is compatible?

I have been trying to upgrade my internal HD for macbook pro early 2008 2.4 and have been having a hard time getting it to boot.  Problems with both WD and Seagate.  I am wondering if the problem is with Mavericks.  I got a good back up from Time Machine to load on the hybrid drive.  Then when I try to restart it shows the apply symbol with no chime and then a black screen comes over the blue screen with some code (strange problem I have never seen) I can see that all the data is on the drive.  I was able to partitian in disk utility.  Anything ringing a bell.  I have done several switches like this and this is the first time I have had so much trouble.  I reinstalled my old drive just to make sure there was not another hardward issue and everything is fine there.  In fact I have a new logic board freshly installed by mac.

Your machine has a SATA 2 interface and I'm sure the new drives are SATA 3. They should still step down and work though. It's possible your SATA cable is marginal and the newer drive is trying to demand more out of it than the old one did. A good test would be to put the new drive in an external enclosure and see if it works ok from there. If so, it's probably the cable.

How did you install Mavericks on the new drive?

  • Do I need internet security software for macbook pro

When I purchase my new MacBook Pro from Bestbuy, it came with free internet security software that is Mac compatible.  Do I need it?

I would not download and install any additional software if it was me...with a firewall in place, and good computing practices, the Mac OS X system does a great job of self-protection.  The info in Thomas's site is also a big help.
Also, keep in mind that the worst of the worst are Norton and McAfee for Mac OS X systems, and MacKeeper is generally considered to be malware in itself...almost impossible to remove once installed because of the way it hides files that keep popping up on you.

  • Which 7200rpm internal HD for macbook pro - Live pa use!

    Hi all
I'm upgrading the internal HD of my new macbook pro which we will be using for our live pa's and can do with a little help in chosing the right one.
First thought was the Seagate momentus 2.5" 7200rpm asg (500Gb) but heard some horror stories and the last one in the old macbook did come up with the dreaded 'disk to slow' message on the last part of a gig last year.
Anyone out there who can give some advice?

I guess the problem for me with SSD is firstly the price as I would need at least a 256Gb version. Besides that it is so new that I feel it is too early to take the plunge. Especially as reliability is my main concern at the moment. Nothing worse then being on stage and the music stops mid set LOL.
I have Seagates in my Mac Pro and they are great to be fair. But as I had this error with my last macbook I was hoping to find out if there is a better alternative. If not I will go with the Seagate as I have always used them.
I guess I might be overly worried at the moment?

  • Internal HardDrives for MacBook

My Macbook's hard-drive is done for and the Genius Bar told me that I should just by a new hard-drive from Newegg.com and I was just wondering what are some of the best internal hard-drives you guys would recommend?

I just upgraded my hard drive to 320gb drive this morning.. piece of cake. Fry's electronics website (www.outpost.com) has the Western Digital 320gb passport drive (http://shop4.frys.com/product/5533030?site=sr:SEARCH:MAINRSLTPG) for $119.00 .. it has a 2.5" SATA drive inside, which can be easily swapped into a Macbook.
When you get the drive, hook it up to the USB port on your macbook, then, using the disk utility, erase the drive.. then, download Carbon Copy onto your computer, and use that to make an exact duplicate of your existing harddrive onto the new USB drive. Once that's done, reboot your computer while holding down the alt/option key and boot from the usb drive to make sure it works properly.. shut off the computer, disassemble the Western Digital usb drive case, remove the 2.5" drive, open up your macbook, and swap drives.
Here's a tutorial with photos.. it's VERY easy and a great way to increase capacity on your mac!
    http://www.macinstruct.com/node/130
(I'm not responsible if you screw something up or void your warranty).. but I upgraded to a 250gb drive about 6 months ago and never had a problem, but when this 320gb drive came out, I wanted to go with it.. so now I'm using the 250gb drive as my time machine backup.

  • Internal drive for Macbook Pro 13 inch with Retina display from late 2013?

Hi everyone. After some water spillage to my new computer, the guys at the Apple Store have told me that my internal hard drive needs to be replaced. No other damage was done, thankfully. I have a Macbook Pro 13 inch with Retina Display from late 2013. The Apple genius said my current hard drive has flash storage, and that my new hard drive will need that as well as the computer requires it. Does anyone know where I can buy such a hard drive? Is it possible to buy it from Apple? I am happy to buy online or in a store (I live in Australia). Also, is this Mac Pro model difficult to take apart? I'd like to install the hard drive myself.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

    From the specs:
    STORAGE AND MEDIA
    Storage
256, 512 GB, or 1 TB flash storage

  • How to replace internal HD for macbook pro

I have macbook pro mid2009...need to replace my internal HD

A very simple procedure. The link above is a good one.
Buy an external enclosure and HD/SSD.  You can daisychain from another bootclone if you have one. Then install the new HD/SSD.

Those are same as use by Apple in the non-retina macbook Pro, Ive got piles of them, only a Hitachi is better.
Toshiba HD are a hair noisy even by Toshiba own admission, but no big deal.
I would NEVER buy from OWC merely for the reasons that their prices are miserable.
    Here you go,   $65

  • I installed a new hard drive in my MacBook. Is there a way to download os 10.6 from internet to DVD for install?

I installed a new hard drive in my MacBook. Is there a way to download os 10.6 from internet to DVD for install?

    Hi C.Mathew Mulligan,
If you would like you can your boot your computer into recovery mode using Command+R There you can select re-download it from the internet. You will not have any of your old data on your new computer, but that is because you replaced your hard drive. So if you would like your old data to be there on your new computer I would recommend to back up your old hard drive to Time machine then Boot it into recovery using Command+R and click on restore with Time machine. Once that has completed successfully you not only should have 10.6 But you will also have all of your data from your old computer.

I needed to make a Skype call and I could not figure which device is the input/capture device, and I want to use the internal mic as the capture device, not an external component.  When I open up alsamixer, and look at the capture devices, I am concerned because I notice the following.
    My current alsamixer settings
Can anyone clue me into which one is the one I should unmute and set up?  I have played around with Audacity for a while changing these and I am just spinning my wheels.

I usually use code blocks for code, not command output.  But I will follow conventions.
In any event, I am having one of the weeks.  It appears I need set up the appropriate modprobe config to specify my sound device type.  With root, do the following.
    echo options snd-hda-intel model=mbp55 > /etc/modprobe.d/mbp62-sound.conf
I found other model information, but found using 5,5 settings works for MacBook Pro 6,2 laptops through searching generally through other distro docs and found this for Gentoo.

It is not about payment of $19.95 (Igalsses) or $7.99(webcam settings). This is a very basic setting that should be available in the system settings. The automatic setting of the internal cam does not work great on low lighting as everyone is aware.
i am just amazed how users take in lying down and suggest solutions such as paying for a 3rd party paid app or improving the lighting in your room.

It depends upon how the other machines are connecting to your MBA:
If the the other machines are also using wi-fi, they can connect directly to the wireless access point (router) without going through your MBA
If the other machines are connecting to the MBA using ethernet you can share your wi-fi connection to them
