Internet ip address is internal modem address

hi!
first of all i apologize if i've overlooked a simular post and ask a previously discussed question again, but i couldn't find a clear answer.
i tried to setup dyndns on my wrt320n (fw: v1.0.03 build 010 Jul 24, 2009). after i created an acoount at dyndns and configured it on the router, i recognized that the internet ip address is the internal ip of my modem. so my dyndns address gets resolved to the internal ip of my modem. how can the router get the real external ip so dyndns is working correctly?
thx, kopi

  • HT4628 Airport on Mac is searching for Wi-Fi from Time capsule. I can get into my back-up, but internet. Modem is fine( I can get online with Ethernet cable). I was told it is a difference in IP addresses ( outgoing from modem and streaming from capsule).

What might be a problem with IP addresses? I did contact Time Warner Cable about my service, there is no problems at the modem until it gets to Time Capsule. I have everything in the house running off of wireless, now nether asset is working. I was  able to connect to Time Capsule wirelessly, but Internet is no go. Any ideas? Thank you!

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule) (Note: Performing this type of reset will NOT affect any data stored on the Time Capsule's internal HDD.)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Is it possible to assign fixed internal IP address for Azure VM ?

I setup win2008R2 Application server on Azure VM and setup Azure VPN for local address 10.0.0.0/24 and  VNET? for 10.0.1.0/24 and default gateway 10.0.1.0/25 though I do not get exact meaning of this  network settings.
By default VM OS IP setting, it get IP address through DHCP.
    1
If I make Azure VPN, it is assigned the specified range automatically ? ( in this case, 10.0.1.0/24 ).
    2
If I do not use Azure VPN, which range of address is assigned as internal IP to Azure VM through DHCP ?
    3
If I set fixed IP address in that VM from OS setting , it will survive and IP address is not assigned by DHCP both using  Azure VPN case and not using Azure VPN case after OS reboot from OS and from Azure
    Portal ?

    For general information:
Gateway - Usually this is your router. When you talk about your gateway, generally you are talking about the ip address your router uses.
NAT - Network Address Translation. When your router is using nat, it is taking data from one Public IP address, and breaking that data into multiple private ip addresses. Data is sent to your network on a public ip address, from the internet. Using nat your router then directs that data, to multiple internal private ip addresses. Nat basically breaks one ip into many.
    IP Addresses :
1-External (Public) IP Address - Every computer/server that has a public ip address is directly connected to the internet. Usually DLS/cable routers are assigned a public ip address by the ISP they are connecting to.
(The Dynamic/Static relates to how an ip address is assigned.)
    a) Static : Your ISP assigns an IP number and cannot be change by user (client).
To do : If you want to change it by any reason, call your ISP and ask them to change your IP number.
    b) Dynamic : Your ISP assigns an IP number and you can change it. This means that every time your DSL modem is rebooted, your ISP assigns a new IP number for it.
To do : Turn your modem off/on. (Wait for 15 seconds between off/on.)
2-Internal (Local) IP Address - If you are using NAT, every computer on your network has one of these ip addresses. These IP addresses are provided by your router. Your entire network can see this ip address. Computers on the outside of your network can not, because your router "hides" private ip addresses.
    Hope this helps you.

  • IPv6 Address in Internal Enterprise

    Hello All,
I was looking at a Pilot deploment of IPv6 in our Labs.
I was little confused with rgards to what should I use as IPv6 address on Internal Network Infrastructure and hosts.
This is when I jumped across BRKRST-2301 where Shanon McFarland gives some idea on use of IPv6 in the internal.
    So what it said is:
    1. ULA Only -- Not recommended as NAT 66 solution does not exist <-- Can I use NPT Solution. But it would require same no. of GUA as well.
    2. ULA + Global -- More problems with DNS, DHCP and SAS  <-- Is this really that difficult ?
    3. Global Only -- Recommended but security folks are not ready.     <--  I could even not convince some R&S folks for this!!! Even though I am convinced.
Apart from this, if i use a GUA which is not allocated to anyone internally & then NPT it while going outside.
I would like to know your thoughts and what would you recommend to do.
    Maulik

    Hi,
Reading many such things I think having GUA to end Hosts is best bet and that is what many people recommend to do.
I'm a bit confused since you say that all hosts will have 4 addresses but ULA must be used internally.
How will you dictate to every server and PC that they will only use their ULA addresses and ignore their global addresses for all internal communications? How will you monitor that this is actaully happening?
<-- SAS should be used for this. Please refer this RFC and the problem statement it gives for SAS. But I am not sure every OS out there has implemented it correctly.
    http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5220#page-12
You also state that all GUA addresses will be advertised to the Internet but these devices are not be reachable from the Internet. However you have just advertised these addresses to the Internet. I'm puzzled as to how you can achieve both conflicting requirements.
<-- By this I actually meant that on all Infrastructure links and loopbacks of Routers we will use ULA, only end hosts will be given GUA and this GUA will be advertised into the routing protocol (exterior) for reachability. Both GUA and ULA in IGP. Advantage of this is that infrastructure network devices will not be reachable from Internet whatsoever.
I have had bad experiences with SP's in the past. Therefore I would not trust my IPv6 Security policy to them.
<-- I agree, applying policies should be done at enterprise end must never trust SP.
For NAT 66, yes i am aware that it is still not available in major implementations, but some LB do that. So just was giving a thought.
    http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6296
So I was just giving a thought:
    1. To allocate ULA to Infrastructure Links and network devices.
    2. Provide only GUA to end hosts. I too feel that should be the best approach.
Let me know on the 1st point. Thanks.

  • I can access exchange from internal ip address address but not external

Hi there, been trying to set up my iphone to collect my email from my exchange server 2003 sp 2 and have been having huge problems.
My IT guys we use have done everything they can so far and we tried setting up the email by connecting through my wireless network and on my intenal ip address to by pass my westell router and it works.
Now as soon as we try this outside and turn off the wi-fi and change ip adress to external, basically my OWA web address the verification fails.
We use an actual number like 000.00.00.000 rather than this webmail.mycompany.com etc I have read about. Sorry not very good at this sort of thing so sorry if I sound like a novice.
    Any help appreciated.

In order to connect to an Exchange server from internal and external, you must connect via a URL and not a specific IP address.
The reason for this is that internal IP addresses (10.10.x.x, 192.168.x.x) are different than external IP addresses, therefore you will not be able to connect externally as you reported.
If you connect to Exchange using a URL (example: http://mail.domain.com, the URL is mapped to both the internal IP and external IP - and thus the iPhone will work everywhere. Internal mapping is done in the server's DNS records. External mapping is done by contacting your internet provider and adding an A record. (You will also need a firewall mapping from external to internal with port 80 open for incoming traffic.)
When you set it up as above, it works like a champ on Edge/3G and WiFi whether your in the office or outside.

  • Tcp_intranet channel to accept only for a specific internal IP address

I am currently using SunOne Messaging Server v5.2:
I would like to configure our MTA to only deliver emails to their proper mailstore if the emails are from 2 specific internal IP addresses. If emails that originated from the intranet are not from the above 2 IP addresses then I would like to re-route the emails to a particular MTA(port 25) for processing. Can this be done? And if so, what changes do I need to make to the imta.cnf file/mappings file?
The tcp_local channel for outgoing emails should remain the same. My guess is that I have to modify the tcp_intranet channel to only accept from specific IPaddresses, Otherwise pass the emails to another channel or MTA for processing.
Question: Can a user spoof an Email with an improper IP address. And if so, do I have to turn on reverse lookup to stop this from happening Or is reverse lookup on by default? Where is the reverse lookup setting? In the imta.cnf file?

by default, we do examine the ip address of a mail sending partner. this is hard to spoof, and it's not based on "from" attribute.
However, I'm not at all sure that what you're asking for is truly something achieveable by any normal means, nor if it's truly useful ..
Perhaps you could create another channel for your specific ip addresses, and that would work. . .

  • EA3500 internal IP address (and more) being changed

Hi All, the internal IP address of my EA3500 and some other configuration items such as Local Wireless Management (as far as I am able to determine) have changed a couple of times last weeks. I am not aware of some kind of auto-update feature or so, and I can fix it myself by resetting to defaults, but it's getting pretty annoying. Does anyone know how to prevent this? Thanks, cheers, T.

Thanks, Jake and others. My Linksys EA3500 router/switch has fixed IP addres 192.168.x.y (with subnet 255.255.255.0), my Linksys E4200 (Access Point) has fixed IP address 192.168.x.y+1 (same subnet), my Linksys WES610N Bridge has fixed IP address 192.168.x.y+2 (same subnet), those other devices have indeed a fixed IP addres in the 192.168.x.y+100 range (same subnet) and my mobile devices (Apple and Windows computers, notebooks, tablets and smartphones) obtain their IP address via DHCP in the 192.168.x.y+125 (same subnet). I never experienced conflicts in the IP area for years, with my good old WRT54GL router/switch, but last weeks/months my EA3500 router/switch has switched over to IP range 10.230.a.b, some kind of automatically. I just want to be able to disable this feature if possible to prevent resetting to defaults and restore my backup configuration. That works when I am around but sometimes I am just not. Thanks again, all. Enjoy the weekend, cheers, T.

  • Tiger Server won't acquire address via cable modem

I have a PowerMac G4 setup to act as a front end for a network. Its running 10.4.3 server. The gateway setting are all setup and ready for DHCP clients but when i plug in my modem cable, the server fails to acquire a proper address. But if i plug my modem cable into my Powerbook running OS X 10.3.9 it configures fine. I can't seem to figure out what i setup wrong on the server that would cause it to misconfigure.

When you got your cable modem service, did you get online from your Powerbook before your G4?
Often times cable modem ISP's will only allow one computer to get a DHCP address, and to thus get online. It usually only allows the first computer it 'sees,' based on MAC addresses ('Media Access Control', not short for Macintosh).
Sometimes you can solve this by powering off your cable modem and attached switches for an extended period (try overnight, to be safe), then turning them back on, and make sure to ONLY connect with the G4.
I've also seen cases where the above didn't work (with RCN specifically), and I needed to call the ISP and have them do one of the following:
    1) Manually clear the MAC addresses from the modem
    2) Update the modem firmware to resolve a bug which wouldn't allow DHCP to work even after the modem was cleared.

  • Editing main address on internal business partner

    Dear experts,
I would like to know the best practice for editing the default address on an internal business partner (Organizational unit).
Indeed, I can do it with the two following ways :
    - PPOMA_BBP : edit the address directly on the organizational unit on the tab address.
    - BP : with the business partner number linked to the organiational unit. edit the address on the tab address
When synchronizing (USERS_GEN), the address on the organiational unit delete and replace the address on the partner.
Is it possible to synchronize from the partner to the organizational unit ?
Can I say we should never modify the main address on the partner ?
Only ship and bill addresses have to be maintained on the partner ?
Thanks in advance for any hint on that topic.
    Best Regards
    Ben

    Hi,
The FM you are looking for is BAPI_BUSINESS_PARTNER_CHANGE
You can use the table PARTNERADDR to fill the Address of the Partner.
    Hope this helps.

  • Slow dial up Internet connection with Internal modem

I just bought a Mac G4 with dual 1.25 gig processors and internal modem for my dial up connection to the Internet. My modem connect speed is 28.8K and max through put on a session is 19K.
I can use any of 3 Windows/PC's and plug them into the same phone jack and get a solid 50.6K connection with a max through put of 49K. Get basically the same connect speeds with a Windows Laptop
Any thoughts of what may be the problem with the Mac Internal modem and such a slow connect speed.
Would buying an external modem with its own processor help me in better connect speeds. Simply at 28.8K the Mac is next to useless on the web.
My home is all wired with Cat 5e, all jacks are a direct run to the punch down block.
My goal is to switch my business to all Mac's, but I need to get the connect problem resolved first.
    Thank You
    wm300

My girlfriend lives in a hill town in a fairly wooded mountain road. She cannot get broadband or DSL either, and the town will, probably never get it. She has satellite, and when it's working well it's great, but in bad weather or cloudy days, the reception is spotty and the satellite provider charges mucho buck for their satellite high speed internet acesss.
So, she has no choice but to rely on the town's phone lines and basically is stuck with dial-up. Unfortunately, the town's phone lines are very old and are analog lines with no digital support. The fastest she can ever achieve is 28k to 30K speeds. Panifully slow dial-up and even small downloads are an experience in patience and time.
Maybe call the phone company to check what kind of phone lines your town or surrounding towns are using.
And if they know what data transfer speeds the lines support
    Also, a thought.
If this Mac was not purchased new, but as a refurbished or used Mac, it could've had a "new" slower modem installed because the original failed and a identical spec'd modem was not installed.
I have a single 1.25 Ghz MDD and has a V.92 56K internal modem and I just found out my town's phone lines can support a 125k data transfer or "high speed dial-up". Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, my 56K will only get me to transfer speeds of between 44k and 48. Not sure if this is fault of my modem, accessing my ISP as the dial-up number dials into a tower at least 20 miles away and my ISP's server is over 40 miles away.
My brother came to visit and his PC laptop could dial-in to his ISP and was able to get transfer speeds of 100k to 120k.
Again, not sure if this was because of a faster modem or not.
You would think that if the phone line in my area can support 128k speeds that my modem should be tapping in and operating at 50k spedds or close to the modem's max of 56k.
This is a stumper becuase I am considering looking for a high speed dial-up provider to replace my current ISP, but if my modem won't clock to any faster than 44k or 48k , I think this would be a waste of my efforts and money.
If anyone can help me shed some light on my situation, this will help me out, as well.

  • Recording internal IP addresses using Microsoft Client

    Hello
Some of my users are using the Microsoft built in Client in Windows to intiate VPN connections into a 3015 Concentrator.
However, using this Client I do not seem to be able to get the 3015 to log the internal IP address the 3015 has issued from the configured pool. I need this in order to fulfil audit trail requirements but only log the username and their external (ISP) address.
I notice that with the Cisco Client both the internal and the external IP address is recorded fine, providing an audit trail.
The environment I work in does not allow me to specify a client type to use as this would be restricting users!
Can anybody help me find a way to record the assigned internal IP addresses for users using non-Cisco Clients? The data I need is available in real-time from the Concentrator, but I cannot find a way to send it to a syslog server.
    thanks
    Bryn

Try a ping broadcast - for example if your network were 192.168.1.xxx (netmask of 255.255.255.0) try this from a Termnal.app window (located in /Applications/Utilities):
         ping 192.168.1.255
If you have a different type netmask, you need to put 255's where the 0's are in your netmask.
Everyone on the local network (the 192.168.1.xxx network) should reply that is up and running unless you have them setup to not respond to pings (the WAN port on your TC should not reply cause it's in a different network) and you have your list of clients on the network. If you setup the TC to dedicate a range of addresses for WiFi clients you can even identify which of them are wired and which are wireless.
    good luck.

  • Cant access Windows Azure VM after changing internal IP addresses

Hi I'm in a bit of a dilemma, I changed my windows server machine to have static internal ip addresses from DHCP, now i can connect to my machine.
How can I change it back to DHCP. can this be done via azure powershell?
Please any assistance would be great.

    Hi,
    Thanks for Posting.
You can change the virtual machine size and then change it back and you will be able to get back into the VM. And not because the VM size matters, but because changing the size will move it to a different host server, which will present a virtual NIC with
a different hardware ID, which the guest OS will detect as a new NIC and therefore give it default TCP/IP settings including dynamic IP and DNS - which is what you must use for Azure VMs.
See also the Resize VM section of this page:

Hi, I am moving our TMG 2010 server over to a new datacenter and while the IP subnet will be the same the internal IP address of the TMG server must change.
If I understand it right, all I would have to do it change the physical NIC properties to reflect the new address right? If for example I am changing the internal NIC address from 10.0.0.1 to 10.0.0.2 and the 10.0.0.x network is already defined in TMG as
an internal network then there is nothing that needs to be done from the TMG point of view correct?  This is not being used as an outgoing web proxy but for server publishing rules.
Am I on the right track?
    Thanks for any help.
