Internet is extremely bad atm

Ever since yesterday my internet has been absolutely dire. Yesterday when I came home from college and try to connect I was at 20k+ ping for around 4 hours. It then went down and after that it was perfect for around 4-5 hours. The next morning it again was extremely bad. Later that afternoon it was perfect for a good few hours and now it's turned really **bleep** again.
I have never experienced problems like this before. Before either the internet was down completely or working perfect. For now it's working, but my ping is unbearable. I am not downloading or anything, it's definately the internet.
I live in the Fife area in Scotland - is there at all any problems in this area?

  • Internet - AirPort Extreme (b/g) - Time Capsule - File Server

I've got a small office network where files are served off a Mac mini, and iMacs connected via 802.11n wifi to the wired mini via Time Capsule. I have a spare AEBS (b/g) that I was thinking of setting it up for iPhone and guest access of internet. To keep the mini and iMacs secure, the set-up would be:
Internet -> AirPort Extreme (b/g) -> Time Capsule -> Mac mini and iMacs
The only issue I'm contemplating - the slower Ethernet ports on the Extreme - which I don't think is a problem for connecting to the Internet. Is there anything else I should be concerned about regarding network performance?
Thanks in advance for the collective wisdom!

That would work. The Ethernet ports on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) is faster than your internet connection so you shouldn't have a problem.

  • Establish IP from DHCP but no Internet or Extremely Slow

Synopsis: Net Macmin, New Ethernet Cat 6 cable (approx. 90 ft), DSL Comtrend Router.  IP Connects, slow to no internet.
Added a 90' cable and ends across store basement from front PC to router in rear of business.  Standard non-crossover Cat 6 cable properly crimped.  Get IP Address from DHCP on front MacMini but internet is extremely slow.  I re-ran the cable away from parallel to power conduit, still extremely slow.  The light on the port which this cable is plugged in flashes at high rate with no pause, unlike three other connected to router.
Front MacMini works fine over wifi, but retail software recommended ethernet connection to ensure reliability should interference occur over wifi.  When I'm testing the Ethernet I do shut off the wifi and have, since started testing, changed the service order so wifi is second chosen to ensure tesitng with ethernet is accurate when wifi is on.
When you try to load a webpage (I used google) through safari it loads 25% of the load bar and stops until it times out a few second later.  Used network utility to verify connection to goolge, it took a few seconds longer than wifi but was able to ping google.  I don't own a ethernet tester and would rather not buy one for one project.
Based on the ability to connect with IP address tells me the cable is able to talk back and forth with the router, correct?  I've read a lot about ethernet port issues, how common is this, what else could be causing the problem?
Internet Source: MyFairPoint DSL for Business
Network Hardware: Comtrend AR-5381u DSL Router
Other Hardware on Router: Second MacMini, Dell Tower, Color HP LaserJet
Thank you to whomever can help and everyone that lends feedback!

My plan is to bring my MBP to the shop later this week to test this out.  I wanted to put this out there to see if any other troubleshooting ideas were brought up.  Thanks for the input!

  • Is it possible to get a refund if i bought an album with extremely bad sound quality?

As asked in the title, is it possible to get a refund if i bought an album with extremely bad sound quality?
I am very unsatisfied with my latest purchase of the album "Never take ffriendship personal" by "Anberlin" ...
I can find all the songs in much better quality, even on YouTube ...
I bought two other albums by Anberlin at the same time, on which the sound quality is much much better and perfectly clear.

My iPod is up to a 4.1 ios, and it won't update to a 5.1 which I need for some of my apps for school. It keeps saying that my internet connection is bad; but, it works just fine. What do I need to do?

If you get a network timeout error, then disabling the computer's security software duirng the download and update usually resovles that error.
If that is not the error what is the wording of the error message.
Note that only a 3G or 4G iPod can go to iOS 5.  A 2G iPod can only go to iOS 4.2.1

  • My iPads Internet is really bad

My iPads Internet is really bad everything else in the house is fine and its not that everything else is is hogging the wifi because it has been fine for ages but all of a sudden it's being really bad, does anyone know why?

What is really bad - slow, drops connection, won't connect, short range? You need to provide specifics if you want an answer.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Airport Extreme (time capsule model) internet speed EXTREMELY slow.

Hello, first thank you for any help on this as it is a bit frustrating for me.
I recently noticed my internet speed was running significantly slower on both my MacBook Pro and on my wifes MacBook.
I had my ISP come and check out the problem. They hooked my MacBook Pro directly to the modem and my speed went from under 1 mb to over 5mb.... he then had me hook up directly to the lan port on the airport extreme and my speed was once again back down to the 1 mb range. He concluded that it must be a problem with the speed once it hits the Airport Extreme.
He ended up giving me a different modem, its a 2wire wireless. I have since connected my airport extreme to the new modem and am still pulling down the same speed, but now I have connected directly to the new 2wire wireless modem and am getting my 5 mb speed.
Can anyone give me any help or advice on what I can do with my airport extreme time capsule so that I can get the speed I should be getting from it.
    Thanks again.

More information. I have a separate router for ISP connect/DHCP. I only use my Airports to create a WDS and bridge onto my home network. I have never allowed 2.4GHz or 5GHz phones in the house, just to limit interference. I live way out in the country so interference from neighbors is negligible to nonexistent. Speed testing done with Speakeasy.net/speedtest
I moved all the hard wired machines from the TC to my switch. Which will impact the speed of my backups, but it helped with internet throughput for those machines.
Then I split my WiFi into 2 separate nets, each with a connection to my home network switch. I created a b/g network with my ufo Extreme and my Express (NET 1). I left my TC set for n/b/g (NET 2). As long as my MacBook was powered off internet speed were nice and fast. As soon as I turned on my MB the speeds were impacted, not as bad as before.
I then changed NET 2 to be n-only 5GHz and retested. These was a small but noticeable impact for wireless machines but I have concerns because my ISP is wireless and runs at or near 5GHz.
I then changed NET 2 to be n-only 2.4Ghz and retested. Again a small impact for wireless machines whenever my MB was connected to NET 2.
I then had my MB join NET 1 and speeds were nice and fast all around. My solution, shutdown the wireless on my TC and use it as just a network drive while I use my old reliable b/g hardware for WiFi.
Maybe someday this Draft version of 802.11n will be finalized and have no issues.

My mac is running extremely slowly while connected to the Internet. It sometime will get to a site and sometimes will hang up and time out. I have an older pc also connected to this wireless connection and it is running very sluggishly too. Can anyone help me? This computer is about a year old and I dob't know enough about it to try and fix things on my own. TIA!!

I am having the same trouble with my Mac. Once I am logged onto Firefox it is generally O.K. but if I leave Firefox and later try to connect again it won't load and I have to shut down the computer and restart in order to get back on the internet.

  • Connecting samsung surveillance cameras to internet airport extreme 7.7.3

i have the samsung sds-v4040 and I'm not able to connect to the internet through the airport extreme 7.7.3
i been trying but I'm not really computer friendly with MAC address or dtp or tcp i seen them but don't know what to do. can some one help me plug the info in the correct places? thank you

To successfully access an IP camera on the local network from the Internet, the following basics need to be taken care of:
Install the camera(s) and verify that you can access them from the local network.
Configure port mapping/forwarding on your router. Typically, IP cameras require at least two ports: 1) A web port for administering the camera; Usually TCP port 80, and 2) A streaming port to broadcast the camera video feed; Usually UDP port 9000. Note: You should check with your camera's documentation for the exact ports required.
If the camera is attached to a computer, you will need to configure the computer's firewall to open the same ports as in step 2 above.
Verify that your modem is in bridge mode, i.e., if the modem provides NAT & DHCP services, turn them off.
Test your network. Use CheckIP to determine your router's current WAN-side (public) IP address. Then, from a remote location (not from a computer on the local network), use the DynDNS Open Port Tool to verify that the required ports are open. Success is an "Open" response from the Tool.
For basics on configuring port mapping/forwarding on your AirPort, please refer to the following AirPort User Tip.

  • Internet through extreme and bob

Hi, once again I am stuck trying to sort out my network (am very new at this, may be the issue).
I have an iinet Bob modem running wirelessy in the study- works really well.
In the lounge I have a Samsung TV and Blu-ray player that allow for connection to the internet.
If I plug either one into an airport Express (which has the "allow ethernet client" tab ticked)- they connect to the internet immediately.
If I plug them into the Airport Extreme (on which I can't find an "allow ethernet client" tick box), then I get a message on the TV screen saying that the "gateway" is incorrect. If I plug a laptop into the Extreme, it won't connect to the wireless modem either. It also doesn't allow me to "extend your network".
However, if I look on the modem administration screen, it shows the Extreme, IP address, and everything.
Does anyone have any ideas? I seem to have bought the easiest working, most incompatible toys. Even Samsung seem to admit they don't have many connections for Mac.
    Thanks for your time.

+How about changing the settings to include WDS in the set up? If I get the picture then, the Extreme can act as an "access point" to the network. Will this work?+
Apple's WDS was extremely limited as far as compatibility. The known list of compatible devices looks like this:
o 3com OfficeConnect ADSL Wireless 11g Firewall Router model 3crwdr100a-72 but ONLY with NO encryption
    o Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    o BT Voyager 2091 or 2100
    o Buffalo WGR-G54
    o Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not latest versions v5)
    o Netgear WGR614 v6
o SMC (one model - don't know the model number)
o Thompson 585v6 wireless router (40 bit WEP works but stronger encryption does not)
+How about a firmware update or hack to open the Extreme? Seems silly it doesn't have the same functions as the Express in this area.+
Unfortunately, none that I'm aware of here.
+Another question for you: can I use an ethernet cable from the iinet gateway (thanks for the terminology) to the Express, set up wireless this way. And then extend the network to the Extreme in another room wirelessly?+
Yes, this will work. You'll need to setup the Express to "create a wireless network" and place the Express in Bridge Mode as the last configuration step for that device...
AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Internet icon > Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode).
Then setup the Extreme to "extend a wireless network" and the ethernet ports will be active in this type of configuration.
If you use the exact same wireless network name, security and password on the Apple devices as you have on your "main" wireless, you should have one large wireless network and devices will connect to the strongest wireless signal (usually the closest router) automatically.

Re: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgradein response to pacoKAS
SOLVED:  IOS 8 Issues on iPad 2:
I just returned home from a visit to the Genius Bar. Like you and many others, when I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it became practically unusable. It was VERY slow, lagged whenever trying to to do anything. Lots of screen freezes and apps spontaneously crashing. I was convinced that the processor on the iPad 2 just couldn't handle the new IOS and I went in to see about restoring to IOS 7.
Thankfully, I was hooked up with a very sharp guy at the bar. The problem is not with the OS, it is with it being an *upgraded* OS. He used the analogy of when you had an older Windows computer and how over time (and over upgrades), they just tended to get slower and slower because of all of the garbage that was carried forward in the upgrades. At those times (and if you've ever had a Windows computer, you get this), the only thing that would speed it up would be to wipe the machine and do a fresh install of the current OS and then reload your apps, and the viola, everything would be fast again. Well, it turns out that IOS can suffer the same problems.
THE FIX:  FIRST, be sure you have a current iCloud backup of your device.  Connect your iPad to a computer that has a clean fresh copy of IOS 8 on iTunes (this is best done with a computer other than the one that you sync your device to because you DO NOT want to restore it from a back up just yet). Ideally, if you do this at an Apple store you'll be assured of the right version there and someone to answer any questions you might have along the way. You then hold the power and home button down to hard-reset the device and continue to hold them down until it reboots into recovery mode. You then follow the instructions on the computer to reinstall the OS on the device (which wipes everything from it and then reinstalls a clean copy of it). Once this is done (which only takes about 15 minutes), your device will reboot and ask you to set it up. Answer the questions about language, location, etc. and continue until it asks you to log into your iTunes account. Once you do that, it will ask if you want to either 1) Set it up as a new device, 2) Restore from iCloud, or 3) Restore from iTunes. Choose (2), restore from iCloud. This will ensure that it brings down "clean" copies of all of your apps and preferences rather than the potentially corrupted ones that might reside in your iTunes backup. That's it! It will take a few hours depending on how much data and apps you have, but I am happy to report that my iPad 2 is now running IOS 8 and it's running as fast as it ever did when it was brand new!
To sum it up, this process 1) Wipes your device and the garbage causing your problems, 2) Loads a clean and bug-free version of IOS 8 to your device, and 3) restores your apps and data so that it looks just like it did before the wipe, with the exception that it works now!  :-)
Note also that by following this process you don't have to go through the painful and laborious process of reloading all of your apps, data and/or settings. iCloud takes care of all of that for you.
