Internet is messed up

I have recently moved and my internet worked the first week or so. Now it doesn't. So we bought a lynksis router and it still shuts down. Every hour, it shuts off. First few weeks it was ever 53th minute of the hour. Now its ever 11th minute of the hour and it takes exactly 3 minutes to get back online. The xbox is plugged in the router and the labtop uses wireless internet and i need help!

Netgear routers have issues with Westell modems sometimes because they share the same IP address.  I had the SAME issue, and I fixed it very easily by doing the following.
1. Connect the modem into the internet/wan port of the router. (The port that is closest to the antenna.)
2. Connect your computer into any of the lan ports on the router.
3. Plug the power cable into the router.
4. You should see 3 lights on the router (power, internet and lan connection).
5. Now, take out the power cable from the router and from the modem also. And plug the power back to the router, just to the router.
6. You should see 2 lights on the router (power and lan connection).
7. Open Internet explorer and in the address box type http://192.168.1.1/basicsetting.htm or http://www.routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm and hit enter.
8. This will take you to the basic settings page of the router.
9. Click on apply button on the bottom.
10. Login to the router (User Name = admin Password = password unless you have changed it).
11. Click on “LAN IP SETUP” on the left hand side.
12. Change the lan ip address or local ip address to 192.168.7.1 and click on apply.
13. This will give you page cannot be displayed.
14. Now, connect take out the power cable form the router.
15. Plug the power cable to the modem and wait for the modem to come up properly, and when the modem is up then plug the power cable to the router.
16. Go back to the computer and try to access the Internet.
Try this, it worked like magic for me (well, back before I started having line issues with my Verizon DSL, but that's not something we can fix).
It's important to follow these step-by-step.  Good luck!

I was trying to fix the internet on my iPhone so I turned it off and back on, then it still wouldn't work so I i turned my iPhone off and now it won't turn back on. Now when it's plugged into the wall or the computer the Apple Logo comes up for about 6 seconds and turns off, then back on for another 6 seconds then turns off again and it just repeats, and it really frustrates me. What can I do to fix it?

I had a similar issue with my phone.....it just shut off and wouldn't come back on even thought it was charged.  My daughter toggled the mute switch several times and then she pressed and held down the home and lock buttons.  It worked......would be worth a shot.

  • Help! Internet/network messed up

    Hi
My friend has been trying to get her imac G3 with Mac OS9 (Mac OSZ1-9.8?) connected to new router for DSL. She first tried the Internet Assistant but I think she selected some wrong options as she started getting questions about PPP or ARAP. I then told her to try the TCP/IP network control panel and set it to ethernet and DHCP. I think she did that but she copied some IP numbers from her router manual which she thought she was meant to put in whereas in fact I think IPs should have been assigned automatically. Because that didn't work she went through the internet assistant about 4 times making new connections each time and also trying different settings in TCP/IP (she thought she just had the IP numbers wrong). Then when she tried to delete all the connections she had made and some old dial up connections she can now not access the internet folder at all or the internet assistant getting this error message:
INTERNET CONFIG.EXTENSION ERROR - 50 HAS OCCURRED. UNABLE TO ENTER
She also a little confused about Remote Access- I am not too familar with Macs but I assume this is what she used to use to dial up and that if I get the LAN connection working she won't need that anymore?
I'd really appreciate if anyone could help here as I am not really knowledgable about Macs and it hard to help someone properly when you don't really know a system yourself.
    Thanks,
    Bill

Thanks for the quick reply Duane! Yes she truly did
throw the spanner in and the rest of the toolkit too!
I think she can still access the TCP/IP control panel
and she has it set to Ethernet and DHCP- she
complained that everytime she tried to changed the
numbers it changed them back, but that is actually
good right as it indicates that DHCP is working!?
That's how I would interpret it. Why does she think that she needs to assign the numbers? That's what DHCP does.
Mac OS 8.6 will not load Internet services until you start up an internet application. After starting an internet applications, the TCP/IP control panel will show the actual numbers.
Verify that the proxy settings haven't been set unless needed.
This is a useful tools for Mac OS classic.
OTTool shows IP and Appletalk configuration parameters within Open Transport. It also allows you to make DNS queries, ping, traceroute, and scan ranges of IP addresses.

  • ITunes has messed with my internet?

I don't really know whether it was the iTunes update or not, but since I have no other clues, I thought I'd start here. Basically, a few minutes after I upgraded iTunes and Quicktime last night, my internet started messing up. It works, but there are programs that refuse to work (as in, they go at 0kb/s). I've already tried restarting my computer twice! Anyone else having similiar problems? Or is it just my computer? I thought it might be the server, but the rest of the internet works fine, and there have been no complaints from anyone else....

We had a similar issue last night ... once the upgrade was installed, the internet became extremely slow. We just had Hughes Net installed (satellite) and it has worked flawlessly until we installed the upgrade. We have yet to figure it out.

  • Internet explorer 8 fix

I found a solution to my problem with internet explorer messing up my site. I removed my favicon and that fixed everything. The site looks almost as good in IE8 on XP 2002 as it does in Safari. With the favicon in place everything was so messed up the site was unreadable; without the favicon it's perfect.
    here is the code I used: <head> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://web.me.com/phelpssculpture/favicon.ico"><meta
If anyone sees something wrong with this code please let me know, otherwise I will just live without the favicon.
Anyone who has problems with IE and is using a favicon, try removing it and see if that helps.
    Hope this helps, David

    Hi,
You can use the steps in the following thread to disable this option:
uncheck "use automatic configuration script" in IE LAN settings
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverGP/thread/05a7c683-075e-435c-8583-da8fd3559cf2
    Or try to
reset Internet Explorer settings and select use automatic configuration script to see whether it could work.
    Hope this helps.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
Try This - Renew IP Address:
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • New to the Mac World

I am tired of just all the problems that windows brings and will be going to the apple store and buying an iMac. I need some help though.
I know this has probably been answered alot but I have searched and have only really found one thread asking this question.
Should I buy the iMac 2.0 or the 2.4. I don't play any games on the computer. What I do use it for is photos, watching dvds at times, browsing the net. At times I can be on AIM, the internet and messing with photos all at the same time. If I buy the 2.0 and get 2GB of RAM will this suffice for my needs and still run really smooth. Please any feedback will be great cause I really want to get a mac but just not sure which one to go with.

I'm going to be really annoying right now. I would say that you're choice isn't really between the 2.0 and the 2.4. I'd say it's between the 2.0 and 2.8.
Personally I think that for the difference in price, when compared with the 2.4, the 2.8 is worth the extra (more hard disk space, more ram and a faster processor). So the big question is the 2.0 or the 2.8.
So you've got the bigger hard disk, more ram, 1ghz (roughly) faster processor (in each core that is), the better graphics card, and the bigger and better screen. And that little list, combined with the fact you can't upgrade much later, made me go for the 2.8. I have no regrets and now don't know how I lived without the real estate that the 24" screen has given me (it's quite often full and I'm very grateful for spaces lol).
Most people will wonder how. Just think of what it's like when you've got itunes, your browser, amsn, streaming the news, email and maybe a word document. Well that's most of my spaces gone on this size screen.
Basically go with the best spec that you can afford to. By all means don't spend more than you can. But if you don't get the best you can now, then you'll be kicking yourself a year or so down the line.

When using ichat video it will work for about a half minute then cut off and tell me that no data has been received after 10 seconds. And the video freezes and ends.

I have CS5.5 Web Premium installed on my Windows 7 computer right now, and I am trying to install Production Premium in addition now.  Initially, I got the following errors from the installer, and the install didn't complete.  Addtionally, the installer said exit code 7.

I searched on the forums for a bit and found suggestions that I should uninstall Flash Player and AIR, so I did that to no effect.  Then I ran across this article http://forums.adobe.com/message/4393571.  So I took the suggestions and renamed the suggested items (I found them on Windows).  The installer didn't even initialize after that, so I reversed the changes I made and restarted.  Now the installer still won't initialize.  Any ideas?

I solved my problem!  Since the computer was new and there were a few things wrong with it, I decided to reinstall Windows.  After the reinstall, the two CS5.5 installs went flawlessly.  I believe the issues I encountered above were due to some edits to the registry I made in order to make the default program install location on my HDD instead of my SSD.  That combined with the suggestions I took from the internet completely messed up my installation.
I did try the CS Cleaner Tool before posting, but it didn't help.  But thanks for the prompt response!

  • OS x Lion Waiting Download? Why Is This ?

So i bought this yesterday and started to download and it worked fine then my internet conncetion messed up. so today i tryied to download it again but it says waiting. i have been waiting for a long time and it seems as if it is not going past this point? so i was woundering if anyone has had the same problem and if there is any way to fix it? or if they now what is wrong?

OS X Lion - Get up to date

  • WHY MAC???

I have been a PC guy but am now looking at a new laptop and a friend had suggested a Mac. Every Apple person I know always raved about the product. So I have narrowed it down to two machines. The Dell XPS M1210 or the MacBook. I use my computer for work (office, acrobat, & internet) plus movies, photo's, and travel a lot with it. I don't play games.
    After spending the better part of a day reading the posts on here I am wondering why buy a Mac. It seems that common problems for the MacBook are;
    - random shutdowns/reboots,
    - numerous battery issues,
    - CD's/DVD's not playing and/or being scratched by the drive,
    - CD's/DVD's getting stuck in the drive,
    - The proclaimed ability to run windows does not seem to be as flawless as portrayed
    - Several websites not being able to be opened,
    - But the one that got me is the numerous complaints about Apple service, with common replies of "impact damage" or "software problems not coverd by AppleCare" and requiring moeny to fix.
From what I have read it does not live up to the reputation of Apple being a superior integrated product with fantastic support. In other words not much different from PC.
So I ask everyone out there, because I was quite keen to switch to Mac, why buy a Mac?? How is better than a PC??
    Thanks,

Well I guess I understand your point.... But think about this when you go to a hospital all you see is people who are sick or having problems with a health concern in their life. When you come to the discussion all you will have is people with problems trying to get them solved. Nobody comes in here to chat about how great their laptop is, they come here to share common problems. I have been a Windows user all my life. I never had any interest for macs until recently we put my HP Pavilion to the test versus a Ibook Pro. We did 3 hours of audio recording. I was so asahmed of my HP because it froze 6 times in 3 hours and when we put the ibook it did everything perfect. The next day I sold it and just a week ago I got my mac, infact im on it right now. This machine is absolutely amazing. The widescreen feature is mind boggling! Its a bright little screen that blows your mind. I got the mac with the 2.0 ghz Intel Core Duo processor and with the basic 512 mb ram. THIS THING IS QUICK!! It came with the DVD burner superdrive and its great. The OS X is real simple and very effective for what ever you neeed it. I thought I would take longer than a week to learn this system, but I already got it down. Other things like the bluetooth, allows you to transfer info between computers or cell phones without any wires. Battery timE! WOOO HOOO! Easy 5 hours on doing basic stuff and about 3 hours and 30 minutes playing a dvd or doing many things at once. I can have 15 pages of Safari(Internet Browser) open and the laptop will still be as fast as when they were closed. Ever heard of no virus, no spyware, no pop-ups? LOL i did not believe it either but now I get to surf the internet pop-up free with no risk of viruses or spyware attaching to my computer. You like to travel right. This computer has a very sleek design and is very light 5.? pounds. Pictures? The macbook has a built in camera called Isight it takes incredible pictures and also it is great for video chatting or video conferencing it comes with software for picture editing(cant think of te name) I thik its Iphoto. Ill tell you one thing about changing to a new system(you will expereince this). When you change to a new system for example from windows to mac. When something you dont have the knowledge of goes wrong, people have the tendency of blaming the machine immediatley without any doubts. This happened to me. This is my first mac ever and when the internet was not working properly, I immediatley blamed the mac for it, without realizing that my router was the one messing up. I bought office 2004 for mac and it is completely different to the windows software it is more stylish and better designed. Of course if you have problems adapting to mac, Mac offers a software called parallels for mac. This program allows you to run and install windows on your mac and run it parralel to OSX. Of course when you use windows you get all them dirty things on the internet that mess up your computer. This has been the best investment in my whole life. I am going to stick to mac until I die. LOL. Take it into consideration that im a college student studying to become a physical therapist. So I have to have a machine that I can rely on and that it will not fail me. Regrets? NO WAY! There is no such thing as perfect techonolgy in this world. But I can tell you that the Macbook comes real close to it.Anything you purchase in this world can come defective there is no guarantee on anything. But to me its the MAC OSX that makes this machine stand out. The security, the simplicty. The mac is very user friendly. I give it two thumbs up and recommend it to all!
    I hope this Helps GLI77
If there is anything else I can help you with. Please let me know!

  • DUPLICATE (Ignore) - Are tooltips readable by software for the blind?

So SORRY, my internet is messed up. Please don't bother with this duplicate post.
    ==================================================
I have attached/created tooltips containing field descriptions to some item titles in my APEX forms.
Does anyone know if these tooltips will be read by software that a blind person might use?
Am worried about being 508 compliant with tooltips.
Thank you for your help in advance,
    Maggie
Edited by: mjhamilton on Oct 6, 2009 4:23 PM

The whole point of the application page this tooltip is on is to give the user an awareness of the definitions for items that will be encountered throughout the application.I guess I'm struggling with the concept here...So this isn't on an actual form in the application?
I have page items. Let's use one called P3030_PROPOSED_NAME. When I view the Edit Page Item, I have set the Display As field to 'Display as Text (escape special characters, does not save state)'. And I have put in the Label field this: {span onmouseover="toolTip_enable(event,this,'FIELD HELP: Enter proposed feature name. (Up to 100 characters.)');"}Proposed Name{span} As noted above, this form of "tooltip" does not improve accessibility. (Not only may it be invisible to assistive technologies for the visually impaired, but it won't be seen by anyone using the keyboard for navigation instead of a mouse...)
For "tooltip" style assistance, the *title* attribute is the best idea as it is widely supported by browsers and assistive technologies, but it still isn't really suitable for important information (e.g. it will usually be invisible when using a normal browser with non-mouse navigation). For form items, critical information should be provided in the &lt;label&gt; associated with the item, and additional help available as HTML via an obvious link.
Any ideas on other ways to present the definitions?A clearly titled Definitions page with the definitions marked-up as a [definition list|http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/struct/lists.html#h-10.3], accessed by obvious links?

  • Please help Mum's Acer Aspire 8.1 won't boot to windows even with a windows disc BSOD

Hi.  I am sooo very frustrated.  My mum has an ACER Aspire E1-522 series.  She's been having probs with it since last summer as it turned very s-l-o-w and would take forever to do its updates...however, the internet is messed up here sometimes and hard to 'jump onto' with Wifi as she's not 'hardwired' to the internet.  Anyway, I had cleaned out her system a few times, no probs...Then AFTER the last update from windows ( approx. a month ago) and the computer shut itself down. Whenever she turned it on, it would 'interrupt' her after sign on screen for Windows and then say it was fixing itself.  I told her I would try to fix it (as we CANNOT afford to take it to repair for $100+) So I bought a 16g usb to do a back up on (it has never been done) as the back up would not go onto discs (??) Now, that I invested $ in that, the darn thing will ONLY come on with logo, and IF I'm lucky, will come on with blue screen "windows encountered an error, wait for repair..." then it goes black (or sometimes blue) for days...WHAT can I do?? How do I fix this? I don't know how to get the battery out either, but I don't want to damage the computer in case it does have to go to the shop.  And how does one even 'get in' for the RAM in case that is the problem? PLEASE PLEASE help!! ( it's not even 2 yrs. old... but it is out of warranty...) Thank you for reading my rant! (OH-PS: We tried to boot to windows with a disc and NO luck..)

    Hi,
Would you please first check if the system can startup into Safe mode?
Then, please try the startup repair in Advanced menu after you boot your computer via installation media.
How Run "Automatic Repair" to Fix Startup Issues in Windows 8 and 8.1
    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2843-automatic-repair-run-windows-8-a.html
Then, if the issue still persists, try to boot PC in WinRE, and enter command prompt to run following commands:
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /scanos
    bootrec /rebuildbcd
Detailed steps, please refer to this link:

  • Video streaming stops after partial download on apple tv

Hi. I've got wild blue internet, an HP Pavilion running iTunes in Windows XP, an airport extreme base station, apple tv, and a macbook. I've had the apple tv for about 7 months, connected over wireless. I've never been able to watch youtube videos. They partially load and start playing, but only go about half way and stop. They almost never fully load. I can watch the same video on the macbook over wireless, and it works just fine. I had assumed it was an apple tv problem, and hoped the new software update would fix it. It hasn't. Same situation, except now it's worse because I'd actually like to watch trailers and rent movies, but they still only partially load.
Content on the HP computer syncs properly with ATV. I can watch the movies and listen to the music just fine. It's only content that streams from the internet that messes up, and only with apple tv. I also wondered if the satellite internet was a problem, but if it is, it's only with apple tv. Youtube and movie trailers work fine on the macbook over wireless.
    Any ideas?

    Hello Winston,
I was initially just trying to watch ANY trailers. Virtually everything on ATV stalled after a minute or so. Switching to exclusively wireless n transmission from the AEBS seems to have fixed everything. We haven't tried to download movies, but probably won't since we're on satellite internet and have a fair access policy that limits our downloads to 17 gig a month. That's plenty for youtube and other normal usage, but I'm afraid too many movies would mess things up.
Wildblue has a configuration utility that we can set up on the computers, but nothing like that for ATV. I had thought that might be the problem originally, so I used a macbook (2.0 CD) that hadn't run the configuration setup, and it still worked fine for youtube stuff.
I didn't know things were streaming from different sources, when I was trying to watch the same video. Makes sense though. Thanks for the reply.
