Internet issues after 10.5.6 update

I updated despite the warnings and now I regret it.
Browsers open pages very slow. I've tried FF, Opera and Safari. Downloads are around 8kb (I have a 3mb connection and used to get around 250kb avg download).
Before someone saying 'change dns settings'. Why should I have to now add more settings when it was working perfectly all along?
I have tried adding the DNS details and it makes no difference.
I've also tried my iPhone, PC, and laptop on the same network and internet is fine.
It's so frustrating....

Hello Khalifa,
Just for kicks, how much free drive is available? Right or Control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, click: Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see: General click the black arrow so it faces down, you will see: Capacity and Available Keep in my to never allow your available drive space to fall below 10%, 15% is better. Your Mac will slow down, apps will crash and freeze.

Iphone 5 issues after IOS 8.2 update: all the iphones in the house receive the same phone calls ONLY while we are at home.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

That is a new "feature" described in Connect your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch using Continuity
You can turn it off by going to Settings > FaceTime and changing "iPhone Cellular Calls" to off

  • Is there any fix for the bluetooth connectivity issue after most recent OS update?

Seems to be a common problem particularly with bluetooth headseat connectivity. Any ideas?

There is no bluetooth connectivity issue after the recent OS update. There may be a problem with your phone, which may or may not be related to the update. A "common problem" looks like this in the forums:
I haven't seen any threads on BlueTooth with over 1.4 million views and over 12,000 replies, or even any vaguely close. For any problem that someone has there is bound to be someone else amoung 150 million users who have it. That doesn't make it a "common problem."
If you tell us what the problem is specifically and what you have done so far to try to resolve it someone can probably help you.

  • IPad2 Issues after iOS 8.1 update

iPad2 64g wifi + cellular -   very slow and non-responsive since iOS 8.1 update.  nonstandard Apps seem to be working fine.. it’s the standard item like photos and safari that don't  respond.
photos -  (which I use daily to show clients examples)  will freeze and kick me out back to the home page when trying to do anything from open a photo for viewing to trying to delete a photo. Edit.. forget it.   better off using an alternate app to edit a photo as it locks up and crashes every time.   I really need to be able to view the photos  on my iPad2
safari -   good luck using any hyper link…. It doesn’t respond.   Even at Apple’s website.   Sometimes it crashes but most of the time it just ignores me like I haven’t touched the screen
Overall - the touch screen is glitchy since the iOS 8.1 update.  It was slow after the iOS 8.0 update  but has become almost unusable after the 8.1 update.
I cannot afford to purchase a new iPad.  And I really need to find a way to make this one work.
I did read about how to restore to an older iOS version.   The only problems are all of my laptop is Windows based and the instructions assumed you had a Mac.   I did a backup to iTunes prior to the 8.0 update but I have also done backups since.   So I am not sure I have a “clean” iOS 7 backup.
Any ideas would be appreciated   Thank you in advance for your help

For the touch issues in Safari, does scrolling or zooming the page before you try to tap a link make it work again?  I've read a few posts that this may be a workaround for that issue.

  • Display Issue after 10.9.2 update

After updating my Macbook Pro with Retina to 10.9.2 -- My display flickers for a second after sleep and or blank screen and then goes back to normal. Has anyone else been having display issues after updating?

Yes similar problem here: I have a MacBook Pro, 15 inch Retina, Mid 2012, and when I connect a secondary display via HDMI (and also HDMI-to-Thunderbolt) then the external monitor becomes the main display.
I have not figured out on  how to switch back to former settings. My guess: it's a bug. A quick search confirms that many others have secondary display issues since 10.9.2
(Steve would have fired those lazy punks, who failed to do sincere testing before release …)

  • How i get by with the sleep, pause issue after 1.0.2 update

ok. i'm sure you guys are aware of the ipod sleeping/pausing issue after updating your ipod to 1.0.2. my ipod will pause whenever it is in the jensen dock station and the green battery indicator shows up. whenever i use the dock or remote to unpause the song, a few seconds later, it pauses again. so instead of using the dock or remote to play, unpause, whatever, i connect the ipod to the dock and use the wheel to navigate and 'only' use the play/pause button on the ipod itself to kick off the playing of music. if i go back to the remote, the ipod pauses. if i only use the menu and play/pause button on the wheel, my songs do not pause. it sure was nice using the remote before 1.0.2. i mean, it did come with the dock for my remoting pleasure but alas, i shall wait on the next update. hope this helps someone.

I will have to try that... I took my iPod to work today and plugged it into my JBL docking station and it was skipping. I did notice it seemed to go to sleep more often when I used the remote... There's a whole other forum on this maybe you could check out too. But it's really annoying and I hope Apple comes out with a fix soon! I will definitely try to use the iPod wheel tomorrow and not the remote.

  • Massive battery drain issues after the latest software update - phone hot

After the latest software update (to the NI2 version) I have massive battery drain issues. The phone also stays hot. Even when I don't actively use the phone it seems to stay "awake" according to the stats. When I disable all data (Wifi and/or 3G/4G) it's perfectly fine. Does anyone else experience the same issues or has recommendations?

Is the device trying to sync all your photos with the cloud?
This is what I would do.
Back up your photos and music onto a personal computer. Copy down important settings like for your email, and contacts you can't risk losing.. even icon placement of important apps. Diagram it out.
Then perform a Factory reset on the device. Alternatively you might find the procedure for wiping the low level cache of the device posted in other posts on the site. That might fix the problem and avoid you losing settings and content on your device.
Extremely bizarre behavior post updates are usually associated with low level cache issues that cause the OS to behave poorly.  Some people have reported their phones running hot and that could mean the radio is on constantly attempting to back stuff up to the cloud our restore stuff.
    Good luck.

  • Satellite 100-192: Issues after the latest MS update...

    Satellite 100-192.
After the latest MS update I first had the problem with the Realtek sound card driver. I solved it by applying the patch MS provided.
Now the problem is that the disc cleanup utility does not launch. Anybody any idea?

I just found out that my disc cleanup utility would not work because of a free program called Photo Toolkit. Although it is a nice little program to quickly edit photos, apparently it causes such problems when it is loaded.

  • Internet issues after update to OS X 10.9.5

    Hi,
I'm getting lots of issues since my update to OS X 10.9.5 on my new iMac. This is a new computer but it takes forever to launch new webpages. I have tried both, Safari and Firefox and both take a larger than usual time. Moreover, in some cases the webpage is never loaded and I get an error message or something like a strip down version of the webpage is loaded instead. I know for sure the wired network is not the issue because my colleague tried to launch the same websites on his laptop using the same Ethernet port and the results were dramatically different.
I haven't been able to download the Mozilla Lightning add-on for several days now. I click on the link and it just hang in there forever. Then eventually I get an error message.
Is anyone else having these issues? How can I solve this?

  • Funky Internet connection after 10.4.9 update

I hope someone can help me out with this one...
Over the weekend, I installed the 10.4.9 update and have since noticed a few funky things going on. The internet connection is delayed somehow. I can connect, and it usually loads the first part of a page fairly quickly, it seems to "hang" a bit loading the rest of the page. Sometimes, the browser wont even load a page and times out, and sometimes it just takes a REALLY long time to load, especially when using any kind of form or other than static content. I have a fast cable internet connection, and I have not had any problems with the connection before this weekend.
I also noticed a few other things that make me wonder if it is an update issue and not a hardware issue. The Network icon on the finder has gone missing. This was always present right above the hard drive icon and now its nowhere to be found. The eject button on the keyboard no longer works and I have to use iTunes eject button to get the tray to eject. I noticed that a lot of my email accounts have been asking for the passwords to the accounts whenever I check my mail as if it cant find them. Even when I put them in, it will come back later and ask again. Somehow it isnt storing them correctly or saving them or something.
I do have a powerbook G4 and I have noticed the same issues on it after installing the update.
Here is what I have done so far:
Run disk utility to verify permissions
Run disk utility from startup disk and did repair disk and repair permissions
When I did this on the powerbook as well, I noticed that when repairing permissions, it came up with permissions errors for something like OS/internet/.... something or other. Which makes me think the update screwed up something with the internet/network connection.
How can I test this further to figure out what is causing the problem, and does anyone have an idea of how I can get everything back to "normal".
Thanks for your help in advance!

    PowerMac G5 1.8 SP   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   1.5 Gig Ram

    Oh, that.
I have done that several times.
I thought maybe there was something more I was supposed to be doing.
I had my cable connection checked out yesterday, and they said my connection was fantastic, better than anyone around us.
It must be something else causing the slowdown. I know macs dont get viruses, but... is there any way to check this out or to see if someone else is hijacking my computer or bandwidth? Is that even possible?
    thanks!

  • Issue after kernel panic from update! Please help

Is anyone having issues with their computer after doing the reinstall? I too had the same problem yesterday as thousands of other people had. Took me 9 hours to reinstall lion. I was very happy when I realized I didn't lose all my data. (Guess I learned my lesson on backups) My problem is: Today after my computer is working again is is so stinking slow..... Im talking it has been 15 minutes to load the new mac commercial (30 second ad, on apple.com) In that 15 minutes it has only loaded 20 seconds of it. It is still trying to load the rest so I can stream it? I have never had an issue with speed. It is taking me nearly 4-5 minutes for every email I click just to pull up and read it. Something is wrong? I know it isn't my internet, we have 3 other computers in the house that work the way they always have. My laptop has always been the fastest of them all. I need help! Anyone have any suggestions? Is is possible if the update damaged the flash drive or something? All I know after 9 hours computer loss yesterday and my computer taking all day today to answer a few lousy emails is killing me, I need a solution. I have tried cleared the cache and reset safari with no luck.
    Please advise...

    HI Chris,
Kernel panics are sometimes causes by hardware issues. Probably a good idea at this point to check the boot disk for errors.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Select your disk, and click First Aid.
    Click Verify Disk.
If the disk needs repairs, do one of the following:
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
Follow the onscreen instructions until the menu bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click Repair Disk.
Checking a hard disk to see if it’s going to fail
You can check the health of your hard disk by checking its Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) status in Disk Utility. Most disk drives include S.M.A.R.T. hardware. Developed by IBM, S.M.A.R.T. hardware allows hard disks to test themselves for potential problems.
Starting up in “safe mode” may help you to diagnose problems you’re having with your computer.
To start up in safe mode:
Shut down your computer and wait 10 seconds.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key.
You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after your hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).
To leave safe mode, restart the computer normally without holding down any keys during startup.

  • Mail 4.2 on Issues after MacOSX10.6.3 update

Software update updated Mac OSX from 10.6.2 to 10.6.3. My comcast.net outgoing server stopped working. After troubleshooting with comcast chat online, found out that the Apple updater had somehow reset the outgoing SSL port to 995. Reset the port as per comcast spec. Then outgoing started working and IMMEDIATELY INCOMING on the comcast.net account only failed permanently. Comcast online chat again. Tried several things nothing worked. Comcast asked to set incoming to use SSL and set port to 110. Could not do that. So dropped the account, added new account, setup manually in the create new account DLOG, setup ports and ssl correctly. Now the incoming mail worked. But outgoing stopped. Checked ADVANCED tab in Prefs. It had reset outgoing port to 995 again. Reset that to 587 per comcast. Now outgoing worked and immediately incoming stopped. This is a serious bug.
Apple Advanced tab DOES NOT HAVE SEPARET SETTINGS FOR SSL ON INCOMING AND ON OUTGOING SERVERS. The Pref interpretes ssl port any ways. sometimes as incoming port, sometimes as outgoing port, unpredictably and badly.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Until it is fixed I cannot use my comcast account. In fact, in order to send emails from my home or work (both use comcast for internet), I have to ensure that the outgoing SSL port for comcast server is set to 587. It does not seem to stick. This is a major issue!

I'm here troubleshooting this same issue for my Parents. They had been on tech support with Comcast who wanted it changed from 995 to 587. Whatever other issue they may have had, I changed it to 110 and everything is great. That happens to be mine as well, but with another email provider I didn't even know if that would be worthwhile.

  • Wired keyboard issue after 10.9.4 update

    Hello all,
I disconnected the Apple USB keyboard (A1243) from my MacBook Pro last night, and I started seeing an issue where my Mac would no longer power/recognize my keyboard once I reconnected it. I tried doing the steps to reset both SMC and PRAM, but still my keyboard would not work when connected. I decided to test the USB port so I connected my iPhone to it, and it connected and synched just fine. I also tested a USB drive on it and was able to copy files off it. I also took my Mac keyboard and connected it to a Windows 7 laptop, and it worked just fine. After looking at the console logs, I noticed this error showing up:
    7/4/14 8:24:40.000 PM kernel[0]: USBF:    18393.519    AppleUSBHubPort::FatalError - Port 2 of Hub at 0x14200000 reported error 0xe00002c0 while doing setting port power
This shows each time I connect my Apple keyboard into the USB ports on my machine. I decided to try to connect the keyboard one last time just now and it finally worked. I was accidentally pressing the keys down as I connected it, and I started hearing beeping sounds from my speakers. A few seconds after that, the keyboard started typing and working correctly. I tried the same steps on the original USB port I had it on before (left side), but it's still not working at all. I suspect that this has to do with the new update I just installed as I did not have any issues before.
    Many thanks,
    Adrian C.

To confirm what John Galt is reporting, I just tested printing this web page from OS X 10.9.4 to an old HP LaserJet here.  Worked correctly.
In addition to what John Galt is asking, which model(s) of HP printers are involved here?
If you're getting error dialogs or messages in the console log (available via Console.app), please post those.
If you're working with an IT organization and particularly with managed network switches, have you checked with IT about issues there?
If there are any antivirus or antimalware tools in use here, remove that miasma from at least one test system, and test printing again.

  • Even more issues after installing 3.1 update.  What to do.

    HI there,
It would seem that since I have installed 3.1 my iPhone 3Gs 32GB white is acting very strange. Heres my story...
I have noticed the following behavior since the install. Sound randomly not working. Home button randomly not working.
    Have done a Restore
Have removed all my applications thinking maybe an app was not compatible with the 3.1 update and therefore was causing the problems.
... still noticed home button issue even after removing all apps.
... sound issue happened once but seems OK now.
I have read other postings about these two issues. It would seem others are experiencing the same problems. However, I found no fix for it. That is why I thought it might be an app interfering.
As I said it still happens at random times but lately it has been working fine so I am wondering if it was an app I had installed.
Just to add some history, this is my 2nd iphone as I had a problem with my 1st one. The one I am currently using was sent to me by my Wireless provider and it was refurbished. So I am wondering if the randomness of the home button was the reason this iphone was returned in the first place. And the problem is reoccurring. Or is it just consequence that it is happening now after I installed the 3.1 update.
I have made an appointment at my local Apple store(genius bar) for them to have a look at it, however my luck is when I go the phone will be working fine and they will not do anything. The phone is not three months old so I fall within the 90 days warranty and I just purchased the AppleCare for iPhone as backup. I am hoping I will get a new iPhone to replace this one because it was refurbished.
    So my question is
Do you think it was an application that was causing the issue or could it be a hardware problem with the button? Is it known fact that some iPhone apps are not 3.1 compatible and can cause issues?
Thanks and I look forward to your replies.

after updating to 5.5 i get one loud pop/crack sound when starting or wakeing my mac up from sleep.
I am useing it with harman/kardon sound stick speakers
Anyone had simler issues or no how to resolve this?

Hello Anton. Have you had any luck with your problem?
I have recently noticed that my Samson CO1U USB Microphone is now very quiet and muffled when connected to my MacBook and yet it still works fine on a Windows XP machine. As it used to be fine with my Mac before the 10.5.6 update I can only assume that this latest update has caused a big problem with some USB devices. Like you, I can't get any answers.
I am thinking of rolling back to 10.5.4 to see if I can use my Microphone again.
