Internet Light Blinking on WRT54G Ver. 6

We are changing from Earthlink DSL to Comcast cable internet.  Purchased and installed a Linksys CM100 cable modem.  Initially connected the CM100 directly to a laptop and got connectivity to the internet. Added the WRT54G Ver. 6 router between the modem and laptop, changed the router's "internet connection type" to "automatic configuration - DHCP", cloned the MAC address (both per Linksys Answer ID 3686 at http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/prnt_adp.php?p_faqid=3686&p_created=1151...= then power cycled the modem and router.  We now have internet connectivity through the CM100 / WRT54G combination but the "internet'" led on the front of the WRT54G blinks rapidly rather than being on steadily.  Is this normal behavior or is it indicating connection problems? Thanks for any insight.

Its normal...Internet light blinking means data transfer(send and receive) .

  • WRT1900ac internet connectivity problem, internet light blinking white!!!!?

So my wrt1900ac has been blinking white starting tonight. I logged into the router and did a router reboot. That didnt work, then I rebooted my modem still didnt work.
After all that I did a factory reset to my wrt1900ac which was a big mistake cause now my wrt1900ac WILL NOT set back up. It keeps getting stuck on detecting internet.
So I did a factory reset on my modem which is c1000a, and after the factory reset my modem works fine connects to wifi no problem what so ever. I put my modem back into transparent bridge mode, and tried to re-setup my router. Once again the wrt1900ac internet light just blinks white and will not connect even though my modem works perfectly fine can someone help me out please??
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Disconnect the router from the modem and login via IP Address 192.168.1.1. If you can't check the gateway address of the IP address your router gives your device. The default gateway is the router ip address. It can change if the router detects an IP address conflict.

  • WRT54G Ver. 2 (Blinking Lights, Router seems dead)

I am trying to revive my WRT54G V. 2 router. When I power the router on, the power light, two of the connection lights, and internet light are all blinking. I can get internet fine through the router to my main PC which is plugged in to port 1 via ethernet cable. However:
    - The other PC connected to my router via ethernet cable does not recieve a connection.
    - The router's wireless network is not showing up on any wireless connection list.
    - The router's default gateway seems to have changed from 192.168.1.1 to 66.27.200.1. It has always been 192.168.1.1 for the whole time I have owned it. In the past, when I reset the router it would reset to 192.168.1.1. Now it stays at 66.27.200.1.
    - I cannot access the router maintainance page through 192.168.1.1 or 66.27.200.1, it gives me "Page load Error on firefox".
    - I cannot -ping the router in CMD, either using 192.168.1.1, the old default gateway, nor 66.27.200.1, the new default gateway, it simply gives me "request timed out". When I try to ping it within seconds of rebooting the router, it gives me hardware error for both gateways as well.
The issue started when I held down the reset button for the router for 30 secs to reset to system default. After this I cycled the power to the router. When I turned it back on, it had a new IP (66.27.200.1) and I could not access the maintainance page nor see the wireless network on any laptop/PS3. The first port to my main PC still works which gives me reason to believe the router itself might not be dead...but the other port(s) do not work nor does the wireless network.
Is my router dead? Any suggestions as to how to fix this issue are welcome.

First of all make sure that your computer is set to obtain IP automatically, disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer...If your computer is set to Obtain IP Address Automatically then,
Your router's NAT must not be working, to make sure your router is not defective you should hard reset your router for a minute...
To reset the router press and hold the reset button for 1 minute...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 1 minute and re-connect the power cable...Check the IP Address on your computer...If your desktop computer reports an IP Address of 192.168.1.x then you should be able to re-configure your router...If your computer reports the same IP Address 66.27.200.1(or similar) then your router may be defective and you need to get a new one...

  • WRT54G Ver 6 Internet connectivity problems

    Alright so here's the deal.
I'm on Windows XP with Verizon DSL (in Orange County, CA) that uses a Westell modem (just modem, not modem and router combo).
I have the old Linksys BEFSR41 v.2 router that runs with everything fine.
I just bought the WRT54G Version 6 and connected everything up as needed.  Powered things down and then back up.  And it could not detect an Internet connection, but I could access the router via web browser.
    - Ran the Setup CD and it couldn't find the internet.
    - Upgraded the firmware.
    - I searched the forums and did not find a successful solution.
    - Called my ISP to confirm it is DHCP.
    - Talked to Linksys Support via phone and he had me do all sorts of stuff.  Releasing, Renewing, Local IP Address changes, pinging, MAC, etc.  All this to try to get some sort of IP address with the internet.
    - Tried it with a diff WRT54G Ver 6 (Yeah.  I bought two.  One for me, and one to bring to my parents), and it still didn't work.  (Can't be that both the routers I got are defective.)
    - Searched forums some more and ran across the EasyLink program.  I used it, and it tells me my freaking Wired adaptor is disabled.  Where do I enable it?  Can't be my computer because it all works fine with the old Linksys router I got....or could it?
    - Powered down and back up in many different combinations.
Did all that to no avail.  Anyone got a solution?  I couldn't find anything that worked.  I'm about to go return this and get something else tomorrow.  Maybe if I wake up, there will be a workable solution that is replied back.
Thanks in advance to all those that tried to help and posted something, or didn't post due to having no solution.
    - Chris

Yup Yup Yup.  I tried the WAN address thing and it still didn't work.
I was about to pack everything up and go return the stupid thing.  BUT.....I decided to talk to Verizon DSL support since I hadn't tried that.
    They helped me out good!!!
    Here's the solution.
I plugged in the old router, the BEF, and went to Status to click the DHCP Release.  Then unplugged the old router.
Then per Verizon DSL support instruction....powered down the modem, then powered it back up and waited for lights to stabilize.  Then I plugged in the new router, the WRT.  And went to Status (IP was already autofilled, with internet working) but I still clicked DHCP Renew.
    It all works.  WOOOOOO!!!!
By the way.  The WAN address thing is important.  I went to it on the new, WORKING router and disabled the WAN address.  The internet stopped working.  I re-entered in the WAN address I copied and the internet worked again.  So......yeah.
I hope for all those out there having the same problems as me, and without a solution, see this thread and try this.
Thanks again for your guys' help.
    **edit**
By the way.  Is there a way to stop my internet to being a stickler to this MAC address?  I'm just curious.  I'm gonna go google MAC address and see if I can read anything useful.

  • WRT54G(ver.6) not broadcasting internet signal anymore.

I've been using my router (WRT54G ver.6) for almost 2 years now with only a few minor hiccups along the way. Just recently the router won't send the internet signal anymore. I can still connect to the wireless network and use the printer, which is connected to port 1.
Connected computer directly to the cable modem - Internet works fine.
Wired modem to router then wired modem to computer(tried all ports) - still no internet.
Checked all my cables - they're fine.
All the lights on the router are responding appropriately. I now know that the problem is only the wireless router.
I've tried practically EVERYTHING!!; holding the reset button for 30secs - 2mins, unplugging the router for days on end, upgrading then downgrading then upgrading firmwares again, jumping on one leg while holding my breath, and all different combinations in between!!!
I have the latest firmware and even tried using a previous firmware but still no go.
Also tried the "Mac Address Clone" and still didn't have IS/subnet numbers for the internet under the "Status" tab. (I don't know if I ever had numbers there).
    My ISP is Comcast.
    I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

    Configuration for cable connection:-
Before doing the following steps, you have to connect the modem to the
router's Internet Port and the computer to the Ethernet Port Number 1.
    Step 01 : - Reset the router
    1. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
    2. Then, unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for
    another 30 Seconds.
    3. Plug back the power back in, and keep holding down the reset button
    for 30 Seconds.
    4. Release the reset button.
Step 02 : To Configure the router for Wired Connection.
Please access the setup page of the router by launching an Internet
Explorer and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as “admin "" all in lower cases and then
    click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
    button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
    - Click on enable
    - Click on clone your PC's MAC button and then click on the Save
    Settings button.

  • WRT54G ver. 6 can no longer connect to the internet after reset

I reset my WRT54G ver. 6 to clear the password, and now I can no longer connect to the internet with it. I can see the router itself from my PC, but that is all. I've followed the directions here for connection problems, but I can't seem to get an IP Address for it in the Web Configuration tool. Anybody have any thoughts?

Since you reset your router, you need to reconfigure it back again. try the online utility that automates the configuration. download Easy Link Connect utility at www.linksys.com/connect then download "Netset" and follow instructions.
if not Easy Link connect didnt work then you need to do the configuration manually.
    1. check physical connection modem should be connected wired to internet port of the router then PC to numbered ports of the router.
    2. Brighthouse i believe is cable connection, right? try power cycle your devices (turn off modem and router then turn on modem 1st then router next). check if your online.
    3. if not. check PC ip. click "start" then "run" type in "cmd" then press "OK". the command prompt should pop-up. type "ipconfig" and check IP and gateway. you should be getting an ip: 192.168.1.x and gateway: 192.168.1.1
    4. access router. open IE, then type in http://192.168.1.1 on address bar.
    5. you will be prompted with username and PW. "admin" is the default password. on setup, just below are subtabs. select "MAC address clone". in it, set "mac clone" to "enable" then click on "clone" then "save settings".
    6. power cycle devices again. try to go online
note: if you dont have latest firmware. try updating if needed

  • Wrt54gs all seems good cept internet light will not light or flash and no connection

Got a WRT54GS router. # months old. I have it hooked up to comcast. This evening . I found no net when I turned on pc. I have comcast phone and net service. So My modem also handles phone calls aswell.  On my cable modem there is a link light with is normaly flashing. When I got home my link light was dark. None of my pcs or consoles could get on the internet. I found all the lights on my router on cept the internet light. I called comcast and they verified it was my routeri I hooked this pc strait to modem and all worked fine. This is how im posting now. Ive tried newest firmware and multiple manual resets on router. I get everything but the internet light.<Internet light does not come at all.> Ilso get no net when hooked to router. If I use modem alone all is fine.
    Im hooking up an
    XBOX360
    PS3
    PC
    Wirelessly WII
    Wirelessly PSP
    Wirelessly Laptop.
My Router is WRT54 GS with latest firmware just installed. Please help me if you can All my lights come on as normal cept the internet light. And my cable modem dosent get a link from the router at all. If I hook pc direct to modem again all is ok. Its not my provider.
    Thank you.

Since the "internet" light is not coming on , i'd say that it may be a problem with the "cable" you are using between the modem and the router....if the cable is good....try this....take one CAT5 cable and plug one end into the one of the LAN ports and the other end into the internet port of the router.....check if the internet light turns on...in case it does , try connecting a "hub" between the modem and the router..... let me know what happens

  • WRT54GS port lights always on, internet light always on, only power connected.

  • WRTU54G-TM internet light constantly blinking

I just got this modem used from eBay to set up a wireless system at my parent's house.  Whenever I plug in the ethernet cable from the cable modem (Brighthouse) directly to the router it whines about not being able to find an internet connection.  I've restored it to factory defaults, but no matter what I change the internet contstantly blinks quickly.  The "link" light on the cable modem constantly blinks as well, but it has no effect on the internet connection when skipping the router.
Thoughts?  I'm at a total loss.

Solved my own problem by finding it on the forums.  I needed to change some config settings on the router that I'm no accustomed to doing.

Any chance you have an XBox connected to this router? I've got three friends all with WRT54G ver 8 routers with XBoxes connected and it almost seems like something is trying to hack the security password. I'm searching to see if there is then a lock out which requires a manual reset. It just started happening around Christmas time.

  • BEFW11S4 - Internet light keeps blinking

I recently had to format my PC due to a hard drive issue. I Have Comcast internet service (CABLE INTERNET) and my router hooked up to my workstation,. I first unplugged my router before the format. Reformatted my PC and plugged my router back in. When I plugged it back in I saw a static bolt come from the plug head but it still powered on fine. The "Wireless" part works fine. My laptop can see the router BUT my internet lite keeps blinking when I tried to use the router from my wired PC. I checked all the setup but IM not sure what’s going on? Everything seems set up fine. The "internet" light is blinking erratically and I don’t remember it ever doing that. Is my router shot? PLEASE HELP! Ryan

well if the internet light is blinking that means modem and router is communicating with each other... if internet is not working through the router try following steps...connect modem >> router >> hardwired pc, reset the router by pressing reset button on router about 30 seconds, release the reset button and power cycle the n/w, power down the router and modem, wait for couple of minutes and power up the modem first once modem is rebooted, power up the router check whether it works or not, if it still doesn't work logon to router's setup page, open I.E. and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1, it would ask for username and password, put "admin" as password without any username, click on MAC address clone, enable it and click "clone" save the settings, power cycle the n/w... check whether it works for you, if you have any problem let me know.

  • Actiontec / Verizon GT704WG Ver B - DSL Light Blinking

    Hi,
I just recently signed up for Verizon High Speed Internet and have received my start-up kit.  I have been trying this whole week to get my internet working.  Inside the package was the Actionec GT704WG Version B Gateway to setup my DSL.  I have everything connected right, but cannot connect to the internet.
I am running Windows XP and when I open up the Internet Connections folder, it shows that I am Connected, but the Internet Light does not illuminate and I never have seen it light up.  The DSL Light blinks and flashes.
I have called tech support and they say they can't help me over the phone but verify the DSL and phone lines pass their test.
I have no internet and my frustration continues to build for Verizon.  Has anyone encountered the same issue with DSL and this gateway?

#1 The power light is green?
#2 When was your SRD (Service Ready Date)?
#3 Did you connect DSL filters to everthing deice that connects to the phone line, but NOT the DSL modem?

Hi... it seems that your Wireless adapter on does get a IP address or DNS no after reboot. Try assigning a Static IP address and DNS on the Wireless Adapter. Also try to update the drivers for that wireless adapter.

  • WRT54GS-Ver. 6 - Never shows that it has internet connection

    Hi,
I have been trying to resolve a problem and I can't no matter what I do.
I have Model # WRT54GS - Ver. 6, I have had it over a year and the problem started a year ago when I bought it so my daughter could connect her computer wirelessly with mine.  It was working just fine and then it started disconnecting one computer when the other was on, the two of them could never be on at the same time, anyway my daughter moved out and I put the router away not worried anymore about the problem.  5 days ago I bought a Dell Inspirion Laptop with Vista and reconnected the router to my main computer (Dell Dimension 3000 with Windows XP)
Here is the problem -  I can only get connectivity to one computer at a time or neither of them will connect, when I check out the advisor it ALWAYS shows up as if there is no connction to the internet even if I can get on with one of the computers.  I have a Touchstone telephony ARRIS modem with Cox Internet (always been the same) I have tried to download the updates for the router but I can never open it as it saves as  a VLC media file(.bin)  and if I try to "unzip" it , it says "cannot open file as archive"  always.
I have reset, rebooted, un plugged all connections and I don't know what else to do. I have had about 4 diffferent encryption keys already when I have to disconnect. I have also tried removing it from my computer and re-installing .
    Can any one help PLEASE
    Thanks in advance.

Ok, now I think I have a bigger problem,
I did as posted from "HELM" and downloaded firmware and everything downloaded fine thanks to the instructions given, but after rebooting and unplugging, waiting 30 sec. and replugging the power, now easylink advisor tells me that it cannot find the router...I tried disconnecting the power to the modem and router as it indicates and then waitng the proper amount of time for each one and  reconnecting, but to no avail.
So I diconnected the router completely and connected directly to the modem to be able to write back and ask what can I do now that the router is now longer recognized?
Should I just trash it and buy another one because there is no hope for this one.
    Thanks in advance.

  • WRV54g -Yellow/Orange internet light is blinking

    Hello,
I  have a WRV54g router. Recently i have lost internet connetion. My router now has an orange/yellow solid light next to internet. I am still able to connect to my local network, but i am unable to connect to the internet. I am on the internet currently through my modem alone.
    -orange/yellow internet light
    -local network connectivity
    -can't connect to internet
-Modem still gets me to internet
Anyone have any ideas? (this has happened before  on the same type of router, phoned tech  support, they fed me automated responses, finally they gave me this router.)

Thank you for your suggestions, and for posting in such a timely manor.
    The problem has been fixed.
I left the mess alone and decided to start again this morning.
-I upgraded the firmware to 2.39.2 (successfully)
    -I reset router to default
The internet light was still orange
I powered down the modem while i was re-seating Ethernet cables (that was the fifth time "resetting" the modem). when i powered the modem back up the router was green across the board. I guess fifth time's the charm for me
    Thanks again for your suggestions
